Serena Williams’ Racist Defense of Rape; Would She Attack a Black Victim of a White Rapist?
Would Serena Williams have attacked a rape victim in Steubenville, Ohio if the races were reversed? If the victim had been Black and both of her two convicted rapists had been White (one was Black)?
That’s the question no one dares ask in the outrage over the champion tennis player’s comments attacking the rape victim. And I think we all know the answer. No, she wouldn’t have said a thing. Richard Williams, father of Venus and Serena Williams, is well known for playing the race card and saying–despite all his daughters’ success in the tennis world–that the whole world is raaaaacist! against them. It’s the thousand-pound chip the Williams family seems to enjoy wearing on its collective shoulder as its fave fashion accessory. Keep that in mind as you read her controversial statement, which should be more controversial because of the racism involved, rather than the question about the actions of the victim. With regard to the convicted football player rapists (a Black guy and a White guy), she told Rolling Stone:
Do you think it was fair, what they got? They did something stupid, but I don’t know. I’m not blaming the girl, but if you’re a 16-year-old and you’re drunk like that, your parents should teach you: don’t take drinks from other people. She’s 16, why was she that drunk where she doesn’t remember? It could have been much worse. She’s lucky. Obviously I don’t know, maybe she wasn’t a virgin, but she shouldn’t have put herself in that position, unless they slipped her something, then that’s different.
Do you really think she’d have said this if the races were reversed in the story? Take the alleged Duke fraternity “rape” of a Black stripper, a few years ago. As it turned out, the stripper was NEVER raped, and the whole story was made up and then pursued by a zealous prosecutor who has since been disbarred. But I never heard Serena Williams say anything about that, or about how the Black stripper’s mother should have taught her not to strip for frat boys and put herself at risk (for an alleged crime that, again, never really happened.
I do think that we all have to take personal responsibility for our actions, and there is substance to the concept of women not getting drunk off their butts so that they do not put themselves in this situation. When they do, they share part of the blame for what happens to them. This does not, however, excuse the behavior of those who take advantage of the situation and rape a woman who is not in control of her ability to consent. Still, I never heard Serena Williams wade into this debate when the races were reversed. And that’s because she really couldn’t care less about the sex-while-drunk debate. This is about race and racism. Serena Williams’ racism. (Her bigotry also includes defending the United Arab Emirates’ apartheid decision to ban a tennis player from its big tournament, based solely on the player’s status as an Israeli Jew.)
Serena Williams is a racist, plain and simple. And her apology, today, over her comments doesn’t include an apology for that. She’s still a racist.
And I didn’t need her to do a Crip Walk victory dance at a tennis tournament to figure that out.

Anti-White racism is both popular and politically correct these days. The Obama Era was supposed to heal America’s racial divides and bring us all closer together.
Serena Williams’ racist defense of rape shows us that we still have a long way to go towards true racial equality. Her apology non apology reveals we aren’t geting there any time soon.
Rape is wrong, period no matter the identity of the assailant. People who make excuses for criminals make excuses for other forms of wrong-doing and they don’t show empathy for the victim. Serena Williams is famous – but she ain’t got no class, that’s for sure!
