Affirmative Action Needed for MEN on Campus
By
The absurd gender and race preference policies practiced by our universities have now resulted in the predictable:
THERE ARE FEWER & FEWER MEN IN COLLEGE–and even less male college graduates.
Today’s USA Today Editorial, “Big (Lack of) Men on Campus,” has a graphic with astounding figures. In 2003 57% of bachelor’s degrees were attained by women, only 43% by men. (Same numbers for doctorate degrees.) By 2014, the Department of Education predicts the numbers will be 60% women, 40% men. I think that’s optimistic, and the numbers will likely be even more out of kilter in favor of women.
Where are all those liberal voices–the ones we always hear screaming about “equality”? Deafeningly silent.
Do we really want women taking over the job market from men? Do we want a nation of stay-at-home, Oprah-watching Dads? I don’t think so. I also don’t think we want women dominating college education as professors (which their percentage of doctorates indicates they will). The few men remaining on campus will be educated by feminists who want a matriarchal society and hierarchy.
When phony versions of merit, based on accidents of birth, replace blind standards (like test scores and grades)–everything gets out of whack.
No surprise that, in an “opposing view,” Kim Gandy, President of NOW–the National Organization of Militant Feminist Butch Lesbians Who Want to Rule the World–thinks these numbers are a great thing.
Is it a great thing for men to be in the decline? If you think so, you should probably be reading MoveOn.org or this month’s “O” Magazine.
A nation of men restricted to working-class jobs, prison cells, and diaper changes while cooking dinner–while women run the show–is no paradise. But that’s in the future, if these figures continue. Is it right that men–who make up the majority of the armed services–are passed over by women with less stellar grades and test scores, who get gender preferences in admissions?
Time to get rid of preferences for women–and give men a boost, for a change.
