Wounded US Soldier Kicked Out of FL Skydiving Ctr b/c Arabic “Infidel” Tattoo Offended Muslims

By Debbie Schlussel

**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE: Florida Skydiving Center Admits Demanding Wounded Vet Cover Tattoo at Muslims’ Request ****

Eddie Bryant, a disabled combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient, says he was kicked out of the Florida Skydiving Center, also known as “Skydive Lake Wales,” because he refused to cover up his “kafir” (Arabic for infidel or non-believer) tattoo on his leg, which offended Qatari Muslims who were at the skydiving business. The veteran says he likes to skydive and was humiliated by the way he was treated. I tried calling the Florida Skydiving Center for comment, but they don’t answer the phone, and the voicemail is full (probably with messages of rightful outrage).

infideltattoo

I am a disabled combat veteran. I served in Iraq and worked in Afghanistan. I took an IED because my country asked me too, and I was injured by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. I have a Purple Heart and an ARCOM with Valor. I fully expect to be treated differently when I am visiting another country – when I am in America I expect equality and toleration; but what I experienced today is something that I never would have thought I’d have to go through in my own country. The country I fought for!

I am a skydiver with around 300 jumps under my belt. I’ve done jumps from 30,000 feet, helicopters, hot air balloons, wingsuit skydives and so forth. So with that being said I travel around doing this sport quite a bit. Today was my second time at a dropzone called “Florida Skydiving Center / Skydive Lake Wales”.

Coincidentally there are soldiers from the country of Qatar being trained there.

The picture is of the tattoo I have. Here is the definition of said tattoo: “Kafir (Arabic: ????? k?fir, plural ????? kuff?r) is an Arabic term used in an Islamic doctrinal sense, usually translated as “unbeliever,” “disbeliever,” or “infidel.” The term refers to a person who rejects God or who hides, denies, or covers the “truth.” The Muslim’s from Qatar saw that tattoo and complained to the dropzone. Once they did so I was called to the back office and asked to cover it up by the OWNER. Not that I would, but its 80 something degrees here today, and that would be an unreasonable request. After I told her that I had no pants to cover it up she told me that she has DUCT TAPE that I can use to cover it. I told the lady that I was not going to cover it up, as it was nothing more than a tattoo saying “I am not a Muslim”. After beating around the bush for a few minutes entertaining me while I was trying to convince her otherwise, she asked me to leave.

woundedsoldier

Can you imagine if the owners of this business had the guts to tell the Muslims, “No, we respect our veterans and their freedom of speech”? We’d all support the Florida Skydiving Center. Now, it has a legion of enemies on American soil who won’t patronize this business any longer.

But, hey, the skydiving center is making a mint from the government of Qatar (which owns and operates the Terrorist News Network a/k/a Al-Jazeera), so they don’t care. Expect more of this humiliating treatment of Americans who served honorably, as more and more Muslim dollars are sought by American businesses. Cha-ching.

**** UPDATE: Reader Raymond just alerted me that the Florida Skydiving Center ADMITS (on its Facebook page) to asking Eddie Bryant to cover up his tattoo at the request of Muslims.

Yesterday afternoon we had an issue with a tattoo and the Qatar General bought it to our attention and that it was very offensive to him and to the other Qatar’s that were here. So manifest said she would ask Eddie to come talk to me about it. I asked Eddie if he had something to wear to cover it up while he was here and he said he did not, I said maybe a piece of tape or a little duct would work.

The center denies asking Bryant to leave. But that they would ask this soldier that was wounded in the name of American freedoms to cover up his tattoo to appease Muslims . . . that’s extremely offensive and disgusting.

We’re being put in our place.

American businesses enforcing Sharia isn’t exactly news.

Hey, as the old saying goes, its just business!

Only in America.

NormanF on April 4, 2013 at 3:41 pm

When Muslims take offense and complain, people listen. The foundation of Muslim intimidation is securely in place, set to imply a most ugly response to be visited upon any non-Muslim who won’t “play ball” according to their rules.

The Muslim’s mode of operation makes lawyers waving business cards look like sissies.

I have been debating the pro-gay marriage goons elsewhere and they always attack Christians but never Muslims. I point out that they won’t attack Muslims and Islam for their anti-gay beliefs because they are cowards. But the enemy of my enemy is my friend. That’s why feminists and leftists won’t attack Islam because Islam is the enemy of our Judeo-Christian civilization, as they are.

Polk County is varying degrees of podunk, and large swaths of Lakeland (the largest city) have churches on near every corner, and they have a decent concentration of veterans up there so it’s near certain that there’s local outrage there.

Vaguely related- In 2006, when a suspicious vehicle was pulled over for a traffic stop in Polk County, the driver fled into the woods, shot and killed the K-9 and officer that followed him into thick forest.

When Sheriff Grady Judd was asked why the shooter was riddled with 68 bullets at the end of the ordeal, he replied that they had run out of ammo. Naturally, he has been re-elected since then and still serves.

I don’t know why they’d be offended by their own pejoratives.
They’ve been used to demean people all over the world.

What offends them is probably the idea that somebody would wear them without shame.
Speaking of shame, next they’ll be offended by women who don’t cover up.

This one makes me pretty angry, if they don’t respect the veterans, they don’t respect the country they serve but I guess we knew that already.

Frankz on April 4, 2013 at 4:30 pm

I tried to call and the mailbox was full. I tried to send a message and the email address is invalid. I guess they’ve been bombarded by the 21,500,000 or so military veterans in this country. I wish them all the ill will they deserve for discriminating against this combat wounded veteran and the 1st amendment of the US Constitution. They suck.

Galacticrock on April 4, 2013 at 4:37 pm

In my opinion, Eddie Bryant’s treatment by the Florida Skydiving Center was religious discrimination and they have also violated his right to free speech. According to Islam, ALL individuals who are not Muslims are Infidels. Therefore, because his tattoo informs that he is not a Muslim, in asking him to leave, the Florida Skydiving Center, in effect, discriminated against Eddie Bryant because he was not a Muslim.

Ralph Adamo on April 4, 2013 at 5:00 pm

Mr Adamo, you are of course entirely correct and this is but one reason why documents outlining civil rights were written in the first place. Let the those of the other faiths look at what happens when you begin to discriminate between the various religions . We do not wish the muslims to begin wearing pink trinangles with a M on it. Just as those who are no longer here had to wear the yellow star . The Qatari should understand that they are in a country where we are allowed to say and do what we feel (within civil bounds) and they are in fact offending us.

    Aron B on April 5, 2013 at 9:19 pm

More Orwellian control of speech and thought by left leaning PC thinking “jackwagons”. This is akin to the banning of the word “illegal” when speaking about Illegal Aliens. Infidel is not hate speech nor is it wrong to call yourself such except I guess if you are an American patriot standing on US soil occupied by Qatar military forces.

My next tattoo will say “RESTISTANCE” because that will be what we will become in the future.

Harbinger on April 4, 2013 at 5:18 pm

What next? Will they ask unveiled women to wear hijabs since they think our hair is an obscene private part?!

These Muslims ought to tell their sisters to obey Allah and stop removing their facial hair so that they can all have beards and unibrows like Allah wanted 🙂

Narrated ‘Abdullah: Allah has cursed those women who practise tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and those who remove their face hairs, and those who create a space between their teeth artificially to look beautiful, and such women as change the features created by Allah. Why then should I not curse those whom the Prophet has cursed? And that is in Allah’s Book. i.e. His Saying: ‘And what the Apostle gives you take it and what he forbids you abstain (from it).’ (59.7)

More and more, our own people continue to blow the muslims every chance they get. I had a coworker running his suck about this very thing, but my own tat is different. I let him know that I was willing to let the administration sort it out if it was that important to him. His click talked him out of it, I continued to wear short sleeves.
Quite a few people would’ve been bothered to have to wear long sleeves in the summer months. Just unreal.

And, adding further to Samurai’s blowing Muslims comment, Yeah, and they don’t even bother to wipe their mouth.

RT on April 4, 2013 at 10:09 pm

Now Quantas has removed pork, ham and other infidel food products from its in-flight menus cuz it might offend Muslims.

Islamic Sharia is taking away our freedoms – what to do eat, where to travel, how to dress and how we can entertain ourselves. Corporate dhimmitude is showing us where the future is headed.

We’re submitting and not fighting back like we should and saying “no” to this absurd crap.

We might not be able to prevent Islamo-pandering multi-national corporations from chasing Muslim dollars. But we can prevent them from taking away our freedoms by simply not patronizing them! When their treatment of us affects our freedoms and our right to decent treatment, we can send their bottom line a very powerful message.

As consumers, we have a great deal of leverage. Let’s start exercising it!

NormanF on April 4, 2013 at 10:52 pm

In the downfall of “this once great republic” that I have now been watching for decades, the words of wisdom of a man who disappeared nearly four decades ago, keep ringing more true by the day. Say what you will about Jimmy Hoffa, but his words ring as true as much of the Book of Proverbs, . . .

“sooner or later, everybody does business with everybody.”

What these mofos are doing in our skydiving schools to BEGIN with is beyond ridiculous. What happened to this brave American veteran is a disgrace to the Stars and Stripes he fought for. This school should be closed down and the licenses of the individuals running it should be revoked forever and a day.

Way to go.. you took this dude’s bait and ran with it. Read the guy’s website.. he is a self-entitled prick who is trying to bring as many viewers to his website as possible. He is trying to make money and drum up support for a book. He even says on his page that his number one reason for creating the page is to help himself. He is using his veteran status to get people to donate in order to fund his skydiving, SCUBA, paragliding, and fixed wing aircraft piloting. Because his therapist has told him he has to “force himself to do things he enjoys.”

I’ve been in the Army for 16 years and I’m currently writing this from Afghanistan. I’m also an Arabic linguist which means this language is my profession. I know the place the word “kafir” occupies in modern Arabic lexicon. Do a Google image search for “infidel” and you’ll see exactly how its being used. Claiming his tattoo only means “non-Muslim” is like saying you joined the Westboro Baptist Church to let people know you aren’t gay. This guy played all of you for fools. Keep funding his hobbies, folks.

Brian Zacharias on April 5, 2013 at 2:34 am

Why don’t you surrender to the Taliban while you are at it Brian? I am sure that members of your unit would love to see what you have written after all of the IEDs and suicide attacks that Americans have had to endure at the hands of your friends. Save your sensitivity crap for other people.

Do you like this sort of thing Brian: http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-04-04/world/35451705_1_bacha-bazi-afghans-pashtun

This did not come from a right-wing Blog Brian.

I could go on about the attacks on girls attempting to attend school in Afghanistan, but you should already be aware of that.

The attitudes towards women and unbelievers is no different in Qatar than it is among Pashtuns in Pakistan or Afghanistan. The Qatari are just more effective in concealing their open sores from outsiders. Their tolerance of an American naval base is purely insurance against an Iranian takeover, and nothing more.

Brian, Brian, Brian. So, your complaint is that a disabled vet is trying to earn a living via a small business? Yes, MOST disgraceful! And how does this sinister capitalist maneuver address the substance of the incident?

The fellow decided to “reclaim” a word, in a form that his precisely targeted audience would understand. The Muslims don’t like it because they want to act all innocent.

When did you convert to Islam, btw?

skzion on April 5, 2013 at 11:49 am

A business implies some sort of exchange of goods or services. It is panhandling. He is asking for money under the auspices of donations for charity.

Also, I haven’t converted to Islam but not for lack of opportunity. I’m currently in the middle of my third stint with the 101st and on my fourth overall deployment.

This guy’s conduct is embarassing to current and former soldiers. Do some research instead of being a sheep. You will see that he has a history of trying to exploiting his status as a wounded veteran (who is still physically able to skydive, SCUBA, parasail and fly an airplane) to make himself the center of attention and get special treatment. His fellow skydivers have already distanced themselves from him because he is an obnoxious prick. Admit it, you were suckered.

Brian,

He has a right to his opinion. Whether or not any one else agrees with him is beside the point.

If we took care not to hurt others’ feelings, we could never interact peacefully with other people.

That’s the great thing about America – we do manage to somehow get along like adults in spite of our differences.

NormanF on April 5, 2013 at 2:42 am

I understand he has a right to his opinion but he shouldn’t be complaining that his tattoo, which was meant to provoke, got a negative response. His veteran status does not give him the right to be a jerk who is immune to the consequences of his actions. I took about five minutes to find some images for those who believe the fun jumper was simply trying to tell the world he’s not Muslim. THIS is how the word ‘kafir’ is being used. Notice the font is identical, to include the abnormally long space between the ‘K’ (the thing that looks like a less-than sign on the right side of the word) and the “A” (the vertical line connected at the bottom) in the word ‘kafir.’

I don’t care if his tattoo said my mama eats kitty litter. The ISSUE is pissing off Mooooooslims in a free country with their own perjorative. We still have freedoms here, unlike in many Moooooooooslim countries. We don’t need to pander to those Satanists.

Isn’t infidel the whitewashed translation of kaffir? As I understand it kaffir is to infidel what n***r is to black, i.e kaffir is a highly derogatory term of abuse. It is more likely that the Qataris on seeing it were reminded of the negativity which comes from Arab mouths and were uncomfortable with seeing a kaffir mirror their attitudes back to them, in contempt as it were.

But man oh man, after a little digging and understanding what really took place, I couldn’t live with myself for taking this guy’s side any furter. He’s apparently well known on other dropzones for being an ass. And while he’s fully within his rights to have whatever tattoo he wants, he has to live with whatever repercussions it brings him. Would you guys be sticking up for him if it was a swastika tattoo and a group of people from Israel said they didn’t like it? I shudder to think some here actually might. Just because he’s a vet doesn’t give him carte blanche to be an asshole and not get called on it. The business tried to mediate the situation, and instead of being a man (something I thought they tried to teach in the Army) he stomped off like a little bitch with his panties in a twist. And don’t even get me started on his highly suspect “charity”.

Mark, who cares if he’s an a-hole? The issue at hand is that his tattoo offended a Mooooooslim and that stopped EVERYTHING. And the stupid place bent over backward to placate those hypocrite, phony adherents of the death cult Islam.

If you knew anything about Islam you would not conflate his infidel tattoo with a swastika one. That you did shines the light on your grand ignorance.

A swastika tattoo would be universally offensive but an infidel tattoo would only be to hypocrite-fraud Moooooslims, dhimmis and know-nothings.

Skunky on April 5, 2013 at 5:50 pm

@Mark23,
Yes, but it’s not a Swastika Mark23. It’s a tattoo of a word they no doubt use themselves quite commonly.

Why should Muslims object to someone who’s tattooed with one of their pejoratives? After all it’s a label those offended probably apply to people verbally quite frequently.

Refer to my previous post if you want a possible clue because I know you make a virtue of being clueless.

I don’t care what you think of Eddie Bryant personally. That has nothing to do with it. I know he’s a veteran, what have you done for America exactly?

They have a right to be offended by whatever they want but apparently what bothers you the most is that so do we.

Frankz on April 5, 2013 at 4:07 pm

Jews don’t wear tattoos because Jewish law forbids the defacement of the human body.

But they don’t demand others cover their tattoos again in order to live according to Jewish beliefs and values.

Islam on the other hand demands every one submit to them whether others want it or not. This is more about expelling someone for having a politically incorrect tattoo; this about compelling compliance with the Sharia solely to appease Islam.

NormanF on April 5, 2013 at 4:41 pm

Exactly norman, a friend of my Dads was the only man I knew ,as a child, who had a tattoo. Put there some 20 years earlier when he was in Auschwitz.

    Aron B on April 5, 2013 at 9:24 pm

@Norman,
Call me cynical but they probably wouldn’t have been offended if instead of wearing the tattoo he’d simply used ‘Kafir’ as an insult for some undesirable person as they do.
At the end of the day it is a mark of disrespect for their faith but then so is Madonna wearing a crucifix so they can just get over it.
This is what we’re dealing with now.

Frankz on April 5, 2013 at 5:13 pm

I just got off the phone with the skydiving school. The woman who answered, but refused to give her name, claimed that nobody went skydiving on the day in question due to bad weather. So who do we believe? A decorated veteran or a woman who won’t give her name who represents the school?

Rabbi Sol Appleman on April 5, 2013 at 5:13 pm

According to Mark23 we must believe that the school is lying because according to him they were at great pains to mediate the situation on the day in question. I have no idea how Mark23 got the inside track on this.

Frankz on April 5, 2013 at 5:38 pm

The qatri are merely trying to emphasize their authority because they’re rich. I’ve seen the nouveau riche doing it all my life . The school is being meek because they desire the money the qatari have. I have plenty of that too and the good Rabbi will point to the teachings warning of us such things.
The term kaffir is known to me, South Africaaners use it all the time to describe anyone who isn’t white of Dutch decent . I’ve had a boer use it to my face in the 1960’s when a younger, fitter Aron took the time to demonstrate his anger and flatten the nose of the Afrikaaner. .

Brian Zacharias on April 6, 2013 at 7:24 am

@Brian Zacharias,
You’re a funny guy Brian. Not intentionally though. “Non-believer” has exactly the same as it did in 2011 – “come and get me”.

You must very useful as an Arabic linguist. No wonder we’re losing the information war.

Frankz on April 6, 2013 at 7:37 am

Well, I can’t argue with logic like that.

Brian Zacharias on April 6, 2013 at 7:40 am

“Non-believer” has exactly the same *meaning* as it did in 2011 – “come and get me”.

Frankz on April 6, 2013 at 7:39 am

No you can’t, because you didn’t get it.

If Muslims use “non-believer” as a pejorative for enemies of Islam that’s their problem.
If they’re out to get them then that’s ours.

“non believer” = “come and get me”, always has.

That’s why I’m saying you must make a great Arab linguist.
You don’t get the point even when it’s in your face.

The First Amendment is only the first of the American Citizens Bill of Rights … It is part of our way of life and only a fraction of what our U.S. Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, and Marines fight for at any given time – day or night – 24/7 – 365 days a year … Many dies for those rights and yes, I am proud to have served my God and Country as a Combat Medic in two wars 1) Vietnam and 2) Desert Storm. I am one of those walking wounded that have my disabilities for life. But, whether or not I am an active duty soldier, Veteran, or just a plain old American … I AM and American and I AM a Patriot.

I have traveled throughout the world (three quarters of it) sometimes as a grunt in the trenches of the battlefield, some times as an advisor, sometimes in Special-Ops missions, and sometimes as a Christian Missionary … I have been there and done that for most of my life … I have probably seen things that would make you so sick that you’d vomit everything within you, out and I have been subject to the harshes of conditions that a normal America probably would not make it through … All for God, Country, family, friends, and even for your freedoms.

I have been in countries in the Middle-East where I was not EVEN allowed to have my Bible and to worship in freedom (in public or in private) … the women had to wear Hijab or they would be called whores … and though we fought, died, became walking wounded for those countries we had to go by THEIR customs while in country … There was no freedom under Sharia and especially if you were a woman … You had NO FREEDOM and women are treated a property.

Here in the United States of America, according to our First Amendment Rights, we DO have FREEDOM … And when Aliens come to our nation, not only do they have FREEDOM here, they are also expected to obey our customs and our way of life if they seek citizenship or are here as guest workers. Even Illegal Aliens have to obey our laws, or get caught and put in jail pending INA deportation. Our Republic is a Constitutional Republic and does not conform to foreign religions or laws such as Sharia. And to me and I venture to say to most Americans is IS UNPATRIOTIC that you would conform to the wishes of a Muslim over the Freedom of Eddie Bryant, one of our wounded warriors that gave so much for your own freedom. The way I see it is that you broke Eddie’s First Amendment Rights and in doing so, you stand a chance of being sued if he or any Veterans group so desires to follow this up. But, that is not the purpose of this letter … The purpose of this letter is to let you know that you as a business have three options: 1) To Operate as an American Business or 2) operate as a Muslim business, or 3) to operate a business that is open to all and allow them their Constitutional rights.because after all of this publicity that you are getting (incidentally Free) having decided to throw out an American Soldier for the sake of a Muslim’s wishes, you may find not many Americans will want to use your services and especially U.S. Veterans … Something to Think About, huh?

Eddie,

Your story is full of holes as more info is available at http://www.dropzone.com. Evidently you have been guilty of stirring up trouble in more places than Florida. (I really wish sites like this would actually check on the facts before putting stuff like this out.)

I am confused as to why you have this tattoo and apparently you are as well since you have given 3 different explanations on 3 different occasions.

On Feb26, 2013 at 12:45pm you stated via your Facebook page that you know it is derogatory and “I got it because we were attacked due to our beliefs, people I fought with died because of this word. This is me saying to all extremists… this is who I am, come get me.”

On April 5, 2013 at 1:24pm you stated via dropzone.com that you got it because a friend of your who committed suicide wanted you to get the tattoo. Even then you said you knew it was offensive and did not want to get it.

On April 5, 2013 at 7:52pm you stated “I put the tattoo on my leg for the same reason that Rosa Parks decided to sit at the front of the bus.”

So what is the real reason Eddie?

Does it have anything to do with more hits on your site means more donations to your tax free company that possibly gives you personal gain? (What would the IRS have to say about this?)

Shame on you for smearing true military veterans deserving the highest gratitude and respect.

And don’t even think you are anywhere near the likes of Rosa Parks.

It is sad that you use very valuable and needed sites such as this one to try and spread your lies and embelishments.

You are nothing more than a scam artists and the truth will come out soon enough.

Truth Seeker on April 6, 2013 at 10:44 pm

Who gives a sh** why he got the tattoo??

So many dhimmis here sticking up for the offended Mooooooslims.

Those who know the bottom line know we are in BIG trouble in the indifferent & quisling country. It’s such a shame!

@truth bleeper,
I know it’s hard for a you to understand but sometimes people do things for more than one reason.

Please save your fake concern for veterans for your 9/11 truther sites, nobody cares here.

All your comments on this page are absolutely spot on! Particularly the first – ‘kafir’ is okay for Muslims to use as a pejorative, but not okay when used back at them.

Of course, they are our ‘allies’, so everything should be done not to offend them. Even if they (like Saudi Arabia) ban any public practice of any kafir religion.

That FL skydiving school – all its staff would, in a sane world, be expelled from the US and asked to set up shop in Qatar.

Infidel on April 7, 2013 at 7:18 am

Thanks infidel, the situation is basically the same as if a black guy had the N word as tattoo and then white supremacists told him “Hey stop that, that’s offensive, we’re the only one’s that are allowed to call you that.”

Craziness like this can’t go on in the name of political correctness anymore or we’re in big trouble.

Frankz on April 7, 2013 at 10:22 am

Tell the bastards to go back to their own country. They are in our country, so if something offends you, GO HOME.

Benoni on April 7, 2013 at 11:15 am

I’m puzzled by one word in the update Debbie provided, which quotes from the skydiving business’s Facebook page:

“…So manifest said she would ask Eddie to come talk to me about it. I asked Eddie if he had something to wear to cover it up while he was here and he said he did not, I said maybe a piece of tape or a little duct would work.”

Huh? “So manifest said she would ask Eddie…”??? Who or what is “manifest”?

P.S.: I also found it interesting that the initial complaint was from a Qatari GENERAL. This shows that their activities at the skydiving business are rather… ahem… official.

Active and former members of Special Operations units are suspicious of Eddie Bryant’s story and motivations. Because Eddie is former Special Forces, according to his bio (http://www.ptsdsurvivorsofamerica.org/eddie-bryant.html), his SOF brothers should be listened to. http://www.shadowspear.com/vb/threads/eddie-bryant-adventures-of-a-broken-soldier.17699/

Hesperado – “Manifest” is jargon for the person who controls the flight passenger list, the manifest. I had to do some research myself to understand that.

In fact, a lot of Balance Transfers might obstruct our possibilities of getting approved for even loans and home
loans later. Involving Balance Transfers, heaven Money from American Express has a reduced balance transfer rate.
