Beppe Grillo: Top Italian Elected Powerbroker Says”Jews & Israel Frighten Me;” As Muslim Pop Grows, Italy Tolerates

By Debbie Schlussel

Italy historically had a large and vibrant Jewish community, but that ended with the Holocaust. Now, there is a much smaller Jewish community and Jews are a tiny minority among a largely Catholic country with a growing Muslim population. It is that Muslim population that breeds an atmosphere where politicians like Beppe Grillo, now Italy’s most powerful elected official, can prosper as a result of open Jew-hatred and anti-Israel sentiment. The things he says are on the order of those uttered by Mussolini.

But it’s no shocker when Italy’s Catholic Church soup kitchens have stopped serving pork (because they don’t want to offend Muslims) that this country is now, once again, very tolerant of anti-Semitism. It’s also no surprise that I found a post memorializing and honoring the anti-American (she proudly burned the American flag for cheering Muslims), anti-Israel HAMASnik Rachel Corrie (who worked for the Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group International Solidarity Movement) on his site (see the pic below). By the way, Grillo is a liberal. He’s linked to Italy’s left-wing SYRIZA movement.

ROME — Comic Beppe Grillo’s populist tirades were seen as a benign outlet for popular anger in the days his protest movement was a sideshow in Italian politics. Now that he’s one of Italy’s most powerful figures, his views are coming under greater scrutiny — and a history of anti-Semitic statements has started to raise concern outside the country.

Grillo’s 5-Star Movement captured a quarter of the votes in last month’s national elections, making him the kingmaker in a ballot that left none of the mainstream parties in control of Parliament. Given that political clout, foreign observers have expressed alarm over comments Grillo has made about a Jewish lobby controlling information, about Jewish Hollywood producers out to get actor Mel Gibson and about how he finds Israel “frightening.”

The statements have yet to create much of a stir in Italy itself, where anti-Jewish and other racial slurs can find a surprisingly high level of tolerance. But anti-defamation advocates say Grillo must now be held to account due to his new position of power. . . .

Last year, in an interview with Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronot, Grillo claimed that a Jewish lobby controls all the information Europeans learn about Israel and the Palestinian territories. The anti-Semitic thread winds back years, with an entry Grillo made in his much-followed blog shortly after Gibson made derogatory comments about Jews during his arrest for drunken driving in 2006.

“The Hollywood producers of Jewish origin and even the others if there are any,” Grillo railed, were threatening Gibson’s career. If the actor “had said …’Israel could cause the outbreak of the Third World War’ perhaps they would have reopened Alcatraz just for him and then thrown away the keys,” Grillo wrote.

Giving his own views, Grillo added: “Israel is frightening. Its behavior is irresponsible. There! I’ve said it! And I’m not even drunk.”

Um, yes, he is. Drunk with anti-Semitic hate, which never went out of style, contrary to popular belief.

Jews and Israel aren’t the threat to Italy’s future. Islam is. But not a peep out of this cretin about Muslims or the Middle East which is too close for comfort to Italy’s coasts.

Per usual, the thing to do is blame the JOOOOS.

Mussolini lives.

On the other hand, Grillo’s comments about the Jewish lobby sound exactly the same as . . . Chuck Hagel’s. And the unworthy Republican “hero” Rand Paul helped confirm him as America’s Secretary of Defense.

When I saw the title of the article and the guy’s picture, for a second, I miss read it and thought it said “pawnbroker”. He looks more like one of those than a power broker. In fact, most pawnbrokers don’t look as sleazy as this guy. He looks like a drunk homeless guy. He tries to qualify his bullshit about Jews, etc, by saying: “And, I’m not even drunk”. Whatever it is that he drinks, maybe he needs to change brands.

Off subject, but remembering Italkit’s strident comments about Israel’s supposed racism against Ethiopian women, I noticed that Haaretz has printed a retraction of its slanderous accusations. Raymond was absolutely right in pinning this slander on Haaretz a few days ago.

Little Al on March 7, 2013 at 1:36 pm

I never read Ha’aretz which is considered a joke here, Al. It’s our version of the National Enquirer, which nonetheless sometimes gets things right. I was basing my comments on experience and the fact that the Supreme Court was willing to investigate these allegations. I hope their retraction is based on fact and not simply the fact that they couldn’t win in court.

The fact remains that Ethiopians, both men and women are still horribly marginalized socially and they are very guarded around non Ethiopians for good reason.

Italkit on March 7, 2013 at 5:39 pm

This overgrown, hairy-looking muppet deserves to live with the Mooooooooslims.

I am tired of these Bizarro World sorts. I don’t get it. It’s starting to annoy me off the charts.

Wasn’t RC the dope who got run over? Gosh, another devil.

I don’t understand these mental cases. They should be forced to live with the ROPers. I say send ’em to Pakistan where they can be caught in between the bloody Sunni/Shia battles. I’d pay to send them there!!!

This from a man (Grillo)convicted of manslaughter some years back.

I have said it before and I repeat. European anti-Semitism never, ever went away. It was just out of favor to publicly pass anti-Semitic remarks for 50 years after the war. Now that anti-Semitism is back in favor, the true feelings of the Europeans come pouring forth. And for those of you who are not Jewish, Europeans don’t have any love for America or her freedoms either, which is why the love Obama, the anti-American President.

Jonathan E. Grant on March 7, 2013 at 2:17 pm

    Jon,

Europe growing Muslim population surpasses native Europeans in their intolerance of Jews.

Grillo, as Debbie noted, is a liberal and keeps his views about the Jews and Israel confined to outbursts against them. The Muslims on the other hand assault and murder Jews in Europe.

In the long run, the revival of anti-Semitism in Europe means that Jewish life is coming to an end there.

NormanF on March 7, 2013 at 3:38 pm

Yeah, it’s the anger Islam he’s really frightened of but he’s too much of a PC worm to either confront them or be at least that honest with himself.
Just tell the Jews to stop making problems for Europe.
Nothing really changes does it?

Frankz on March 7, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Its just easier to go after the Jews. After all, they won’t threaten to kill you for offending their faith and they don’t riot and blow things up to get what they want. Italy can’t defend itself from Islam but it can defend itself from the mythical Jewish conspiracy.

Beppe Grillo isn’t just a visceral Jew-hater; he’s a buffoon. Lots of those of around these days now that anti-Semitism is back in fashion in a lot of places around the world. Its a sign of the times.

NormanF on March 7, 2013 at 3:08 pm

“The Hollywood producers of Jewish origin and even the others if there are any,””

Did Grillo change his name from Seth MacFarlane?

dee on March 7, 2013 at 3:19 pm

Now that’s funny – Hollywood Jews don’t exercise that kind of influence and they are far from being committed Jews or even pro-Israel. Go to show you people drunk on anti-Semitism believe in things that are far apart from the truth.

Off topic, anyone remember Wolfman Jack? This guy bears a slight resemblance to him, apologies to the memory of the Wolfman!

I wish Israel was as frightening as he imagines, frightening for Jew haters like him.

Boy, if Israel has that amount of control, why is it always bashed?

skzion on March 7, 2013 at 4:34 pm

I’m always cheered when I’m reminded that Corrie is dead. Too bad her parents couldn’t be with her.

skzion on March 7, 2013 at 4:35 pm

    @skzion–

Rachel Corrie proves that there IS a cure for stupid.

Red Ryder on March 7, 2013 at 5:28 pm

The comments made about Rachel Corrie are truly some of the most bigoted and hateful comments I have ever read. It can be shocking sometimes to be confronted with how scummy the human race can be.

Paul T Mangan on March 7, 2013 at 5:47 pm

      @Paul T. Mangan–

Oh, please. I guess you’ve never read anything put out by her heroes—the PLO, you simple fool.

Red Ryder on March 7, 2013 at 6:55 pm

Wait, you haven’t even seen mine yet!

It was Rachel Corrie who was the scum, the terrorist-supporting miscreant who aided and abetted terrorist murder of Jews. Don’t act like she’s so deserving of sympathy and tears. Where are your tears for the innocent Jewish children terrorized and murdered by Hamas rockets from the same Gaza Strip where she tried to help the Hamas terrorists.

I have no sympathy at all for her since she knew what she was doing, as did all the ISM terrorist enablers, and their goal was to kill Jewish civilians. She was essentially a woman conducting a war against the State of Israel and its civilians.

BethesdaDog on March 8, 2013 at 8:16 am

Paul, the mapping of Rachel Cintius Corrie onto two dimensions was one of the feel-good moments of modern times, and I will not let you ruin it for me.

Europe got rid of jews 70 years ago cause they thought they

Beppe looks remarkably like Karl Marx. Seems to be a favored “look” among the “Destructocons”

Probably as funny as Karl Narx

Interesting thoughts about Europe killing or driving out most of it’s Jews and replacing them with Muslims. If the European people’s minds were working right, they would know that they are much worse off because of that trade off. Middle eastern nations will be worse off without their Jewish and Christian populations, but will be even less likely to acknowledge that. I am guessing that other than easy money from oil, the Jews and Christians were a big contributor to the economies of those nations. From what I pick up from world news, I am guessing that the driving out part is still going on. I have also heard that most Christians and Jews in the middle east are heading for Israel now. They can’t live under the Muslim brotherhood. Many Christians believe, and that includes me, that the return of the Jews to Israel, and having their own land and nation again, is a fulfillment of Bible prophecy regarding the return of Jesus Christ.

I’m living in Italy since 26 years and I must sorrowfully state that Italy is the European Union’s most virulently antisemic country, not so much in deeds, but moreover in words. This must lay within the scarse recent history teaching at Italian schools for decades. Very few Italians have a slight notion about what has happened in Italy and Europe during WWII. The general antisemitic ambiance in Italy was nutured already in direct postwar times by the Roman Catholic Church and then, also, after 1967, by the stalinistic Italian Comunist Party (PCI). The average Italian statistically only reads 36 pages of printed matter per year, and this includes the income tax-declaration and various stort gazettes, so news information came to the graet deal of Italians only through public and private TV-stations in Italian language which means that Italians generally are not able to know the amount of shit they’re themselves stuck in. Beppe Grillo’s antisemtism is hailed by most of his Italian supporters because, in their eyes, “he speaks out what has to be spoken out”. Beppe Grillo is a plebocrat demagogue skilfully guiding his total idiot (see H.L. Mencken’s quote on “Demagogues”!) followers to the edge of the cliff of “no-return”. Italy was never, is not and will never be a democratic country and is bound to oscillate constantly between plebo-cleptocratic clientelism and fascist tyranny. There will, alas, always be antisemitism in Italy, even when ther won’t be any Jews anymore in this country. I, for my part, am on my way, having sold my Tuscan homestead, to live between Ibiza and Tel-Aviv, shutting definetily any relationship with Italy. And, yes, Macchiavelli was absolutely right when he stated: “Every nation deserves the government it has.” Me, as a damned Jew, I prefer to migrate, leaving the shards of Italy to Beppe Grillo and his idiot followers and not giving a dry shit about Italy for the rest of my life.

Motty Levi on March 11, 2013 at 1:31 pm

I wanted to say sport gazettes, non “stort gazettes”, as I actually did. BTW. 🙂

RT writes, “Interesting thoughts about Europe killing or driving out most of it’s Jews and replacing them with Muslims. If the European people’s minds were working right, they would know that they are much worse off because of that trade off.”

Some do know. A (non-Jewish) European observer a while back noted that Europe had lost some six million productive, law-abiding Jews, replacing them with 20 million unproductive, hostile Muslims. The latter numbers have only increased since. Jews today are outnumbered some 10 to 1 by Muslims in the UK and France, 20 to 1 in Europe overall and almost 100 to 1 in Scandinavia. Just recently I read that Brussels, the so-called “capital of Europe” , is now roughly 25% Muslim.
