Let ‘Em Rot: “Hiking” Americans Detained in Iran Are Pro-Syrian, Anti-Israel, Far-Left “Journalist” Activists

By Debbie Schlussel

**** UPDATE, 09/25/11: I Warned You: “Americans” Freed From Iran Are US-Haters, Attack America ****

Longtime readers know my point of view on this:  whether you are American or not, a “journalist” or not, if you go to Iran or North Korea, you knew the likely consequences, you assumed the risk, and I couldn’t care less about you.  I care far more about those held in these totalitarian states against their will, not dumb, left-wing Americans who went there willingly.

sarahshourdshanebauerjoshfattal

Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal:

Left-Wing Activist “Journalists” Detained “Hiking” near Iran

We have enough looming and present foreign and domestic policy problems to worry about.  We don’t need to add people like Laura Ling and Roxana Saberi . . . and now, three “hikers” who are really left-wing, pro-Syrian, anti-Israel “activist” “journalists” from Berkeley–two of whom chose to leave America and live in the Arab Muslim Mid-East.  They knew the risks when they went “hiking” on the Iranian border.  (Hint:  It’s not like vacationing in South Beach, and I don’t think they were really hiking.)  Two of them chose to live in the Middle East.  Tough luck that they got caught.

Oh, and if you think I believe the “they were just hiking” story, think again.  Here’s a little bit of info about these far-left “hikers.”  It seems that an Iranian prison might be a great place for them to spend some time.

*  Sarah Shourd is an anti-Israel “journalist” who lives in the Middle East (probably in Damascus, Syria, from which she’s written some of her articles), writes sympathetic pieces about terrorist-host state Syria, attacking Israel, and taking her Syrian patrons’ false point of view that Israel’s Golan Heights is “occupied territory.”  She also writes about how Israel oppresses the Syrians.  Hilarious.  I mean, no biggie that Bashir Al-Assad cuts his people apart limb by limb, like his father did to journalist Salim Al-Lawzi, that Syria has an atrocious human rights record and tortures dissidents, let’s concentrate on blaming the Jews.  That’s her strategy.

Here’s a tip for Ms. Shourd:  Israel annexed the Golan Heights years ago–you know, when Syria attacked Israel, went to war, and lost.  Shourd lies and claims that Israel forced Syrian inhabitants of the Golan Heights to become Israeli citizens.  Nauseatingly false.  I have many Druze friends with family there.  The Druze Arab inhabitants love the freedom they have as Israelis–of not having to worry if a conversation they have on the street will result in their limbs being amputated without anasthesia.  The formely Syrian Druze of the Golan Heights rue the day when Syria gets it back (as Obama–and before him, Bush–have been pushing).

Shourd describes herself as a “ teacher-activist-writer from California currently based in the Middle East.”  Well, we know for whom she’s an activist and writer–the Iranians-sponsored Syrians and other Islamic terrorists.  I’m just worried about whom she is teaching.

Shane Bauer is a UC Berkeley grad who has written for the far-left The Nation and “reported” for the Terrorist News Network a/k/a Al-Jazeera.  He lives in the Muslim Mid-East, speaks Arabic and his Berkeley degree is in “Peace and Conflict Studies”–typical far-left degree for Jimmy Carter groupies.  He lives and is based in Damascus, Syria–a nation for whom he’s toed the party line.  From his Damascus digs, he’s written articles for left-wing media outlets about how Muslims in Syria love Obama but need to see him change American foreign policy toward Israel and the Islamic world.  Sound like an “innocent hiker” to you?

Joshua Fattal, also a Berkeley grad is an environmental activist who hosted a “resistance” radio show.  Media reports say his father is Iraqi, and he said he was traveling there to get in touch with his roots.

He earned a degree in environmental economics and policy. He also taught high-school students in Berkeley and worked in New Hampshire.

He most recently worked and lived at Aprovecho Research Center in Cottage Grove, Ore. The nonprofit facility is located on a 40-acre ranch and is focused on sustainable living skills, sustainable forestry and organic gardening, its Web site states.

At Aprovecho, Fattal held a position as internship coordinator. He was a graduate of the program himself and traveled to small towns in Oregon and Guatemala to implement some of the sustainable living ideas taught at the center . . . .

While Fattal was at Aprovecho, he co-hosted a weekly radio show, “Rhythms and Resistance,” on the center’s community station.

These are the three “hiking” Americans who “accidentally” strayed into Iran.  Things are not always as they seem.  But, in this case, one thing’s quite clear.  When you hear about Americans vacationing by hiking near Iran, you know something’s up.  And it’s not innocent at all.  These three were not mere “tourists.”

Sad that our government won’t send the right message to these activist, left-wing Americans who take unwarranted risks:  You’re on your own.

I’d say, “Let ’em rot in hell.”  But, right now, they’re rotting in Iran.  Close enough.

(Unfortunately, Iran will soon learn what useful idiots these are and set them free, just like they did with Saberi and just like Islamic terrorists did with their friend, Jill Carroll.)

Great point and I agree. Nothing new from the ME other then the same old tired lies from the terrosist state and their sockpuppets like the author of this artical.

BailoutBob on September 13, 2010 at 9:17 am

Wow. Your pro-Israeli stance stinks to high heaven. If you are trying to claim that the Israeli Jews are oh so innocent why have they been occupying, bulldozing, settling, stealing, killing and torturing any one who stands against their strong arm tactics. Secretly, and sometimes not so secretly the Israelis and the Jews in America actually enjoy their bully reputation inthe Mid East. Hiding behind the HOLO-“cost” for decades.Pretty transparent, as are you, Schussell.

Henry Richard on September 14, 2010 at 8:30 am

Henry, you said it all and I can’t agree with you more. You are right on and the corresponding problems are that the Jews control the USA and the majority of the American Public is totally ignorant of that fact. Jews control the American Media and out government. The USA is spending more money under the guise of freedom for two obvious factors, protecting Isreal and the would’s oil supply.

vin on September 14, 2010 at 11:26 am

You said Jews control the USA

      What does that mean?

Control USA on September 15, 2010 at 6:31 pm

So the reason we are at war is b/c Jews are the ones behind 911!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They want to protect oil (cash cow) and since they control UsA and media. We believe them that the terrorists did it and not their dirty jewish asses. I wish hitler did burn them all!!!!!

Matt on September 20, 2010 at 7:51 am

Hi, Vin. I’m an American Jew. I just want to tell you that you’re right — I and my other Jewish friends control the whole of the USA. Every week we get together and plot how we can control the whole world — you think we’re in synagogue praying, but if you knew Hebrew, you’d know that all those prayers are really a blueprint for world domination. We control the media — every movie and TV show has subliminal messages that we’ve planted. Don’t watch Seinfeld — it will turn you into a Jew-lover, guaranteed! And oil…why do you think we’re in Israel? Oil! All those oil wells in Israel must be protected from the Arab countries that don’t have any oil, like Saudi Arabia. This is why the USA puts so much money into defending Israel, more money than we give to every other country, more money than is in our whole national budget! But you figured it out. Congratulations! You’re smarter than EVERYONE else in the USA!!! So be nice to us — maybe we’ll give you a job in our Jew World Order.

It is past the joking stage. Why don’t you live in Israel? Why doesn’t Israel support itself? I find it very rude you would take American handouts for your shitty little country and laugh in the face of American’s. Should be a warning for the next country giving you guys a home.

america on October 1, 2010 at 11:42 pm

You said Israel is “occupying, bulldozing, settling, stealing, killing and torturing”

Do you have any evidence of anything you claim?

Well, you called that one. Suddenly the woman is set free but no one knows where the mysterious 500k came from for her bail. I’m sure it wasn’t paid and that Iran has made the decision that it is more beneficial for them to let her go.

Jack on September 14, 2010 at 8:39 am

I completely agree with you.

If you are stupid enough to be hiking near a country like Iran or North Korea then you sure as heck better catch a f$!king clue and buy a GPS so you know where the border is. And you shouldn’t be getting within a mile of it so that there are no questions about whether you’ve done something wrong.

Idiots like this deserve exactly what they get.

Michael on September 14, 2010 at 10:35 am

I agree that those on the left can say some fairly ugly things about the right. However, your use of words like “idiots” and such makes the right look like arrogant, cold, rednecks with no sense of compassion or empathy. Individuals, such as yourself, push those on the left even more to the left. Think before you write please.

Jorge on September 14, 2010 at 3:14 pm

My guess is the real reason you want to “let ’em rot” is because Sarah Shourd and her two companions are Jewish.

Jess Fine on September 14, 2010 at 10:37 am

Neither Shane nor Sarah are Jewish, not that it should matter.

David Marcus on September 14, 2010 at 11:23 am

john on September 14, 2010 at 10:40 am

one of the two jews that wanted to work with the nazis ?

    assir_tizakfat on September 14, 2010 at 11:57 am

I agree with you for the most part, but don’t necessarily agree that they are all left wing people. I believe that it goes beyond just being pro or anti Israel; I think many are looking to video various entities and conditions in these restricted countries to sell to the American media. If these people want to take the risk of getting caught and imprisoned, then they should rot in jail. I am so tired of the American news presenting these stories like those restricted countries are all demons. Just stay the hell out or pay the penalty. I can liken this on a very small scale as people traipsing through your back yard and front yard continually without your consent and when caught, say I am an American and can do as I please on your property. It is so basically stupid and I condemn the American press for not telling the whole story. Any person or group that goes into a foreign country against their policy should be arrested and prosecuted and the American press should just tell it as it is. We have too many self-righteous arrogant American Asses in this country.
Vin

vin on September 14, 2010 at 11:20 am

Your article seems to argue that somebody with different politics deserves to be stuck in prison. A more compassionate position would be, “You may be liberal and I may be conservative but you still deserve to be treated fairly, with respect and humanity.”

David Marcus on September 14, 2010 at 11:20 am

Whats with the Rights obsession with blondes? Seriously; are the job requirements blonde and attractive…. Realize your all just eye candy. Maybe thats why your being so harsh towards fellow Americans. Our opinioins may very but by spewing this sort of venom your lowering yourself…

whocontrolsthepastnow on September 14, 2010 at 11:47 am

You make a very accurate observation…these blondie next door types are the only airheads the conservative right could find to parrot everything that they say. Someone with a brain would think before saying such things, but not a dumb blond. Even more importantly, a bunch of dumb hillbillies usually take everything they say at face value so it must be a rather effective tactic on the conservative right’s part

anonymous on November 19, 2010 at 8:03 am

What did they think would happen when they got caught. They are lucky to be alive. I have no sympathy for idiots like these. They were there on purpose and with intent. It’s too bad the mainstream media is putting this “hiking” spin on the story. The truth is far more interesting.

Ed on September 14, 2010 at 11:50 am

Honestly, you seem like a bigger idiot than those you are passing judgement on.

You are taking what the media has written and taken at face value. There is something that you dont understand since you are not familiar with the region, although you try to convey yourself as some sort of expert on the situtation. These people are ‘dumb’ because they ‘knowingly put themselves into a bad situation’.

I can honestly say that anyone else would most likely make the same mistake as well. Since you live outside of the Middle East and are obviously not familiar with the region, you assume most likely that areas and streets have signs like they do in the US. I need to clarify some things for you because obviously you have no real knowledge about the situation and your spewing venomous words that simply show your ignorance.

Technically, these three were not hiking in Iraq but in Iraqi KURDISTAN.

This is an extremely important fact for 3 reasons:
Firstly, the region of Kurdistan is sympathetic to Americans in the region and are extremely protective of them. It is one of the safest and most beautiful parts of the middle east; therefore, these hikers would not be aware of any immediate danger.
Secondly, and most importantly, the region of Kurdistan is occupied by 4 different countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. When you walk around in Kurdistan, you can unwittingly walk into Iran or Iraq etc. This is the middle east dummy, and an extremely mountainous region. The region is filled with uninhabited remote land…Its not like driving from San Diego to LA, where you’ll see hundreds of signs pointing you in the right direction. When you get LOST, you get LOST.Theres no one to tell you what direction to go in, and theres no sign pointing you in the right direction dumbass.

Lastly, since Iran is technically occupying Kurdistan and is there illegally, you never know where Iranian soldiers will be. Iranian soldiers could have gone over the border to catch these guys and they wouldnt know it because last time I checked, no one built a huge wall on the border…there are no signs in remote areas to indicate you have crossed over into another country. Yeh there are checkpoints, but when the US government cant take care of the US/Mexico border, you think a corrupt country that is run by a bunch of thieving rats would have the finances to put checkpoints all along the border? No, Iran posts a few soldiers here and there, who are mostly young inexperienced men forced to provide mandatory service, and have them on the lookout. I bet they would just love the opportunity to bring someone in, let alone 3 amercians.
The next time you pass judgement, know your facts because you sound like an ignorant jackass. They are Americans, and deserve to have America’s support. Imagine if you went on a vacation and the government did nothing to protect your rights as an American citizen…I can tell you right now that I would throw my citizenship out the window if it were that worthless. Be proud that your country is defending the right’s of it’s citizens, and realize that not every country in this world has a constitution or miranda rights.

anonymous on November 19, 2010 at 7:59 am

There is a theory in science called Occam’s Razor which states that the simplest explanation which covers all the facts is most likely the correct one.

The simplest explanation is that some stupid kids, who thought they were smarter than everybody else, went to do something cool and got hurt. Now it’s everybody else’s fault but theirs.

Mossad agents? Laughs. Put down the crack pipe.

James Harris on December 15, 2010 at 2:14 am

You’ve taken the bait, hook, line and sinker. They are Israeli double agents. They must look anti-Israel to get on the other side of intelligence.

Nogero on September 14, 2010 at 1:11 pm

Hiking along the border to a country who despises our own — sounds like they are Berkeley grads alright. Since Sarah was so ashamed of how the US treats another country … we should leave them to reflect in an Iran prison for decades if necessary, so as to show good faith and respect to Iranian laws and the nation of Iran, who clearly deserve more respect from us.

Doobie on September 14, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Just need to say: 9/11 was a horrible thing. It is also a horrible thing that so few are interested in talking things out instead of making war. Are humans really that arrogant? Religion is mostly to blame for this eyesore on our species. Let religious text rot, not humans.

Keith on September 14, 2010 at 9:23 pm

publicly espousing a position that an American -of any stripe- should be left to rot in a foriegn jail for any reason is absolutely unamerican. When jingoist idiots who should know better get caught and held after killing people in other lands, we all pull together to get them out – even of we absolutely despise what they did.
[This points up the diference betwen the left and the right. the left is more patriotic. we are loyal to our country and countrymen no matter what – while you right-wingers are only loyal when its fun.]

To espouse a belief that just because someone holds a different political belief than you, that they should be in jail is not just despicable, its the classic logic of the fascist.

Religious people are in need of treatment for a disorder. If you believe in gods and devils and are willing to kill/die for it your mind has forsaken you. Its time for the secular world to establish its power and shine a light on this crippling mental illness whose reign of destruction is unparalleled. You think the religions fight each other? Ha. Wait until you see them band together against the rise of legitimate secular humanity.

I am sure all three were treated very well, after all they are proponents for the kindness of the Arabic nations. Hopefully all this time in the most notorious merciful Iranian prison has given them all time to reflect upon the religion of peace. It is just soooo typical of the left wing nuts to think they can ramble around a violent country right next to a violent anti-american dictatorship that has previously taken American hostages and really think that they are not targets and that no one will harm them. Its just so lovely the tax payer had to ass up 500K for these three clowns to take a life lesson. I say let them rot and be a very stern lesson to others who think about doing something so stupid. If you cannot be a good example then be a very very bad warning.

They deserve to be left there to rot or get stoned.

One more thing, this so-called ‘writer/journalist/miss piggy,
is obviously Pro-Jewish or a Jewish herself (please note all the advertising for Israeli vacations and whatnot)
I have nothing against Jews, I actually feel bad for them. I feel bad for the Palestinians too but I digress.
This stupid b**ch repeatedly mentions the fact that these people are “anti-jewish”. so the fuck what?
Just because they dont agree with your country’s foriegn and domestic policies, they deserve to be detained and tortured?
Do you know what kind of country Iran is? You do realize that you would be treated alot worse than these guys for being a Jew and/or Jewish sympathizer?
How would you feel if I said the Nazis were justified in doing what they did because Jews are anti-Palestinian.
And who the hell were these guys spying for? They are allegedly anti-Jewish…ok …Iran hates Jews more than they do and is friends with Syria/Iraq/Egypt and what not. Are you honestly going to believe that they were spies?
    HAHAHAHAH dumb ass motherf**cker

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it

anonymous on November 19, 2010 at 8:19 am

Hey you conservitard. Im liberal and i want those “hikers” to rot as well. Whether they are terrorist sympathizers, CIA agents, or just plain dumb. They deserve what they got and knew full well the risks they were taking.

jiggaboo on September 19, 2010 at 7:00 pm

    One last thing:
This writer/journalist/miss piggy -or whatever she is- is obviously jewish or a pro-jew sympathizer (please note all the pro-Israeli advertising from her ‘sponsers’.
Now, I have nothing against Jews…in fact, I feel bad for them. I feel bad for Palestinians too but I digress.
In her ‘article’ or more accurately her dumb ignorant rantings, she repeatedly mentions that these guys were (allegedly) anti-Israeli, and that by being anti-Israeli, they somehow deserve what they are getting.
Now how would it sound if I say she deserves to rot in a Tehran prison for being anti-Palestinian or a Jew?? Should I say the Nazis were right in killing your people because your people believe in the occupation and murder of the Palestinians? How would that sound? A bit ignorant no?

And another thing that makes me wonder…if these guys were anti-Jewish…than who the hell were they spying for?
Iran hates Jews, yes, but is all buddy buddy with Syria..Iraq…Palestine…Egypt…so who the hell were these guys spying for? America? Well if they were spying for America, than good for them.

Then again, we know Iran is full of Crap and just likes to get their hands on Americans.

Whatever happened to “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it” SLUTSSEL?

JB on September 22, 2010 at 11:16 am

The hikers are either really spies or whack jobs. There can be no middle choice. Normal people don’t go to a country at war, travel to the border of a neighboring hostile country, and presumably without a GPS- on a “vacation.” If they had a GPS then I say they are spies. If not, they are whack jobs. They all speak arabic and at least Sarah has traveled extensively in the middle east, including Syria and Yemen, countries not known for their democratic leanings. She teaches English to Iraqis in Syria who are planning on going to the U.S. This seems a perfect setup for a double agent. Is she scoping out potential terrorists? When she appeared on Oprah, she was asked a direct question: “Were you spying?” She answered indirectly, the way people are taught to lie in Lying 101: “There was no evidence of that.” That was not a direct answer to a direct question. The correct answer would have been, “No.”
I give two to one odds: spy vs. whack job.

this sounds a bit suspicious. i think these hikers were up to something and may have gotten what they deserve. why cant they hike in the u.s.a?…like the grand canyon, yosemite, pacific trail, appalachia, its alot nicer than iraq, and freedom is on their side. if people who hike dont know they are near a border, that meaens they dont know what they are doing, and should not be hiking at all. they should limit their adventures to walking around the block. make sure you are home before dark

People have gotten so used to seeing the world through greed fear and propaganda splattered glasses that they can no longer comprehend a simple honest event. These were innocent optimistic young people who enjoyed nature and worked to improve the world rather than pursuing big money careers. People who enjoy nature hike wherever they are and a waterfall in the desert attracted them like it did many local families. Would you rather that they became bankers or wall street insiders and ripped off your retirement accounts, or politicians who take your tax money to bail out their business supporters and pay for useless wars?

Yes! Let them burn in hell with all their Mohammadon terrorist friends. While our brave soldiers try to neutralize the Mohamadon terrorist threat by defending our country, these criminal leftists are helping the enemy by advocating “peace”?

Where is a good leader like Reagan when you need him?

Hail Reagan. Hail Bush. Hail John Bolton. Hail Chris Hitchens.

HAIL VICTORY! HAIL VICTORY! SIEG HEIL!!! SIEG HEIL!!! SIEG HEIL!!! SIEG HEIL!!! SIEG HEIL!!!

there is something that you dont understand since you are not familiar with the region. Technically, these three were not hiking in Iraq but in Iraqi KURDISTAN.
This is an extremely important fact for 3 reasons.
When you walk around in Kurdistan, you can unwittingly walk into Iran or Iraw or wherever. This is the middle east people, and an extremely mountainous region. The region is filled with uninhabited remote land…Its not like driving from San Diego to LA, where you’ll see hundreds of signs pointing you in the right direction. When you get LOST, you get LOST.

Lastly, since Iran is technically occupying Kurdistan and is there illegally, you never know where they are. Iranian soldiers could have gone over the border to catch these guys and they wouldnt know it because last time I checked, no one built a huge wall on the border. Yeh there are checkpoints, but when the US government cant take care of the US/Mexico border, you think a corrupt country that is run by a bunch of thieving rats would have the finances to put checkpoints all along the border? No, they post a few soldiers here and there, who are mostly young inexperienced men forced to provide mandatory service, and have them on the lookout. I bet they would just love the opportunity to bring someone in, let alone 3 amercians.
The next time you pass judgement, know your facts because you sound like an ignorant jackass. They are Americans, and deserve to have the American people’s support. Imagine if you went on a vacation and the government did nothing to protect your rights as an American citizen…I can tell you right now that I would throw my citizenship out the window if it were that worthless. Be proud that your country is defending the right’s of it’s citizens/

In her ‘article’ or more accurately her idiotic, ignorant rantings, she repeatedly mentions that these guys were (allegedly) anti-Israeli, and that by being anti-Israeli, they somehow deserve what they are getting.

Now how would it sound if I say she deserves to rot in a Tehran prison for being anti-Palestinian or a Jew?? Should I say the Nazis were right in killing your people because your people believe in the occupation and murder of the Palestinians? How would that sound? A bit ignorant no?

And another thing that makes me wonder…if these guys were anti-Jewish…than who were they spying for?
Iran hates Jews, yes, but is all buddy buddy with Syria..Iraq…Palestine…Egypt…so who were these guys spying for? America? Well if they were spying for America, than good for them.

Then again, we know Iran is full of Crap and just likes to get their hands on Americans.

Whatever happened to “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”

One more thing..I for one have nothing against jews and feel bad for them. YEs they are attacking Palestinian settlements which is wrong, and they have my sympathy as well; however I digress.
This writer is obviously pro-Jewish, if not Jewish herself. There are ads all over her site for Israeli tourism and what not. In addition, she repeatedly states that these people are “ANTI-Jewish”. So what if they are?:??
That gives a country the right to torture and interrogate them like animals? Do you know what kind of country Iran is? Do these people deserve this??\
You stupid idiotic dumb blonde, if you were in Iran they would treat you worse than the Nazis did. Should I make a comment like “the Nazis were justified in doing what they did to the Jews because Jews are anti-Palestinian??

Does that even make sense? God people like you drive me crazy with your fu*ked up mentalities.

Nothing that you said is necessarily untrue, except you jump to a conclusion based on zero evidence that “something must be up” because innocent hikers couldn’t possibly go hiking near the Iranian border. Well, guess what, maybe they do. In any case, whatever their political beliefs it is irrelevant. I suppose during WWII you would have said we should only be concerned about American POW’s who happened to share your political beliefs? The fact is, these hikers are fellow americans, whether you agree with them or not, and they were effectively kidnapped by the Iranians who are cynically holding them for no valid reason. And you want to take the Iranian side? I’m sorry, you just lost your patriotic credentials with me.

David Tussman on November 23, 2010 at 4:34 pm

The hikers are educated, left-wing, accomplished journalists, and jewish. They were warned before their hike by authorities that they were hiking into or near Iranian territory. They have been assigned or employed in Iraq as journalists being that they also speak arabic. So, they purposely, having already identified the area they hiking into as being hostile territory and warned by local authorities, continued into Iran anyways. If you believe they are not Israeli spies, working for Mossad, like all the Jewish “journalists, art students, and moving firms” being uncovered and exposed in the USA as spying for Israel and the Mossad – then you have become a sorry, uninformed, and foolish goyim.

This gave me chills. You are absolutely disgusting and I await the day I hear of your demise.

Jennifer Cortright on January 24, 2011 at 2:14 pm

Shroud and Bauer were interested in living in and understanding a different culture, so they did. They wrote articles about it to share things they learned while they were there. They took a vacation to a local spot with a friend interested in his roots. None of this is in any way outrageous.

What is outrageous is your attitude. You’re basically saying, “they are liberals, I hope they rot in prison for it.” There is nothing credible or respectable about you, Schlussel, if “rotting” is the punishment you feel should be doled out to anyone who disagrees with you.

I’m as anti-Jew as they come, but I do agree that the remaining two should hang for their crimes. Sorry. It’s a tough world.

And if it wasn’t bad enough to enter Iran, they were screwing with the Kurds, Bush and the Jew’s Favorite Provocateurs.

Hey Debbie S.,
You’re ignorant and hateful. These Americans are being used by Iran to push a political agenda. It’s ridiculous to suggest they were anything but innocent hikers. Maybe they were foolish to walk so close to the Iranian border…but, they certainly don’t deserve to “rot in hell”. You on the other hand…

KP on February 9, 2011 at 10:29 am

Regardless of whether you support their beliefs, and in fact regardless of whether or not they were spies, which I can tell you with no doubt and 100% certainty, they were not; even regardless of the fact that they are American, nobody deserves to be held in solitary confinement, with no trial, for crossing a border. Your article shows a lack of fact checking, is hyperbolic and demonstrates zero empathy on your part. I really hope that in the future, when you are talking about the future of someone else’s life that you consider the impact of your words.
Similarly, if your goal is to convince people you are right, you have done a terribly inadequate job of achieving your ends. By using hyperbolic, hateful speech, all you have done is given people who already agree with you a place to say you agree, and upset those who were perhaps in the middle.
I don’t understand how, without knowing the facts of the case, you can say that three people who were hiking in Kurdistan, and crossed a border deserve to rot in hell. And if I assume correctly given your strong feelings about Israel, you are either Jewish or strongly in support of Jewish rights, last time I checked many modern Jews reject the view of hell except for the most evil of crimes against other humans, certainly not for something like accidentally crossing a border between two countries.
