Let ‘Em Rot: “Hiking” Americans Detained in Iran Are Pro-Syrian, Anti-Israel, Far-Left “Journalist” Activists

By Debbie Schlussel

**** UPDATE, 09/25/11: I Warned You: “Americans” Freed From Iran Are US-Haters, Attack America ****

Longtime readers know my point of view on this:  whether you are American or not, a “journalist” or not, if you go to Iran or North Korea, you knew the likely consequences, you assumed the risk, and I couldn’t care less about you.  I care far more about those held in these totalitarian states against their will, not dumb, left-wing Americans who went there willingly.

sarahshourdshanebauerjoshfattal

Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal:

Left-Wing Activist “Journalists” Detained “Hiking” near Iran

We have enough looming and present foreign and domestic policy problems to worry about.  We don’t need to add people like Laura Ling and Roxana Saberi . . . and now, three “hikers” who are really left-wing, pro-Syrian, anti-Israel “activist” “journalists” from Berkeley–two of whom chose to leave America and live in the Arab Muslim Mid-East.  They knew the risks when they went “hiking” on the Iranian border.  (Hint:  It’s not like vacationing in South Beach, and I don’t think they were really hiking.)  Two of them chose to live in the Middle East.  Tough luck that they got caught.

Oh, and if you think I believe the “they were just hiking” story, think again.  Here’s a little bit of info about these far-left “hikers.”  It seems that an Iranian prison might be a great place for them to spend some time.

*  Sarah Shourd is an anti-Israel “journalist” who lives in the Middle East (probably in Damascus, Syria, from which she’s written some of her articles), writes sympathetic pieces about terrorist-host state Syria, attacking Israel, and taking her Syrian patrons’ false point of view that Israel’s Golan Heights is “occupied territory.”  She also writes about how Israel oppresses the Syrians.  Hilarious.  I mean, no biggie that Bashir Al-Assad cuts his people apart limb by limb, like his father did to journalist Salim Al-Lawzi, that Syria has an atrocious human rights record and tortures dissidents, let’s concentrate on blaming the Jews.  That’s her strategy.

Here’s a tip for Ms. Shourd:  Israel annexed the Golan Heights years ago–you know, when Syria attacked Israel, went to war, and lost.  Shourd lies and claims that Israel forced Syrian inhabitants of the Golan Heights to become Israeli citizens.  Nauseatingly false.  I have many Druze friends with family there.  The Druze Arab inhabitants love the freedom they have as Israelis–of not having to worry if a conversation they have on the street will result in their limbs being amputated without anasthesia.  The formely Syrian Druze of the Golan Heights rue the day when Syria gets it back (as Obama–and before him, Bush–have been pushing).

Shourd describes herself as a “ teacher-activist-writer from California currently based in the Middle East.”  Well, we know for whom she’s an activist and writer–the Iranians-sponsored Syrians and other Islamic terrorists.  I’m just worried about whom she is teaching.

Shane Bauer is a UC Berkeley grad who has written for the far-left The Nation and “reported” for the Terrorist News Network a/k/a Al-Jazeera.  He lives in the Muslim Mid-East, speaks Arabic and his Berkeley degree is in “Peace and Conflict Studies”–typical far-left degree for Jimmy Carter groupies.  He lives and is based in Damascus, Syria–a nation for whom he’s toed the party line.  From his Damascus digs, he’s written articles for left-wing media outlets about how Muslims in Syria love Obama but need to see him change American foreign policy toward Israel and the Islamic world.  Sound like an “innocent hiker” to you?

Joshua Fattal, also a Berkeley grad is an environmental activist who hosted a “resistance” radio show.  Media reports say his father is Iraqi, and he said he was traveling there to get in touch with his roots.

He earned a degree in environmental economics and policy. He also taught high-school students in Berkeley and worked in New Hampshire.

He most recently worked and lived at Aprovecho Research Center in Cottage Grove, Ore. The nonprofit facility is located on a 40-acre ranch and is focused on sustainable living skills, sustainable forestry and organic gardening, its Web site states.

At Aprovecho, Fattal held a position as internship coordinator. He was a graduate of the program himself and traveled to small towns in Oregon and Guatemala to implement some of the sustainable living ideas taught at the center . . . .

While Fattal was at Aprovecho, he co-hosted a weekly radio show, “Rhythms and Resistance,” on the center’s community station.

These are the three “hiking” Americans who “accidentally” strayed into Iran.  Things are not always as they seem.  But, in this case, one thing’s quite clear.  When you hear about Americans vacationing by hiking near Iran, you know something’s up.  And it’s not innocent at all.  These three were not mere “tourists.”

Sad that our government won’t send the right message to these activist, left-wing Americans who take unwarranted risks:  You’re on your own.

I’d say, “Let ’em rot in hell.”  But, right now, they’re rotting in Iran.  Close enough.

(Unfortunately, Iran will soon learn what useful idiots these are and set them free, just like they did with Saberi and just like Islamic terrorists did with their friend, Jill Carroll.)

Is it just me, or are these three (especially Sarah) in for a mega rude awakening?

cirrus1701 on August 3, 2009 at 11:47 am

What do you suppose would happen to Shane or Josh if they were gay and the Iranians found out about it?

Jarhead on August 3, 2009 at 11:53 am

I wonder what “bubble girl” is experiencing now?

    Sorrow01 on August 3, 2009 at 6:10 pm

Let them enjoy their new experiences.

I suspect she’s hanging upside down now being sodimized in the name of Allah. I bet the guys learn this lesson, too.

She should have listened to Jessica Lynch.

Talk about a “teachable moment”…

sharon on August 3, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Unfortunately, while I agree that these likely trust-fund beneficiaries should “rot in hell”, it most likely won’t happen. Once the Iranians fully realize what sort of anti-American propaganda opportunity they have and combined with the Obama administration’s vocal support for totalitarian regimes it’s likely they will be “free” sooner than later.

Riley G Petty on August 3, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Three douchebags. Tell Iran they can have them.

sjh on August 3, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Do you think Odopey will consult with Jimmy Carter about how to deal with the Iranians? Carter was so effective in dealing with them.

Jarhead on August 3, 2009 at 12:37 pm

Why should we have cared about these libtards anyway? Aren’t there enough hiking trails in the U.S.?

I’ve been noticing that it’s usually libs that are victims of violent crimes as well.

Joe on August 3, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Right on DS.

Reality discipline is letting people face the consequences of their own decisions. This is a case where it certainly should apply.

Thanks for being consistent on this issue, as you were with the fate of Daniel Pearl which was tragic, but much like the lady who went swimming with the polar bears at the zoo to get her ass bitten off–only worse.

Also–Can you link this post to the torture info on Assad? I cannot find it with the detail you seem to have here, and I did try.

BB on August 3, 2009 at 1:42 pm

I wish they had consulted with Wolfgang Ebner and Andrea Kloiber, Austrians and I believe Jewish.

http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/194837.php

They enjoyed eight-months in captivity, and I doubt either one of them will ever be the “same”. Austria paid between $5-8.5 million ransom which only empowers kidnappers.

After the monetary exchange, the Left’s Newest Heros will (try to) walk back to freedom.

goldenmike4393 on August 3, 2009 at 2:04 pm

Why is MSNBC reporting that Josh Fattal, one of the hikers, writes for The Jewish Week? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32262037/ns/local_news-springfield_or/

J: That could certainly be true. His father is an Iraqi. Might be an Iraqi Jew. And his mother might be Jewish. Doesn’t change a thing that I wrote. The guy’s a lefty . . . and an idiot for “hiking” there. DS

Juno1 on August 3, 2009 at 3:25 pm

We can’t really worry about those “hikers” now, can we?
They are where they want to be and should stay and enjoy all that the Islamic Republic of Iran has to offer.

They left a friend behind–maybe he can go and join them.

lexi on August 3, 2009 at 3:32 pm

I don’t believe iran’s or the US version. I think they crossed willingly to join jihad. Maybe they were kidnapped to be indoctrinated to join jihad. Either way.

marlene on August 3, 2009 at 3:54 pm

I suspected they were typical Berkeley loons when I heard the news. Of course the media won’t tell us this, but will portray them as victims- like the “journalists” who went to North Korea to film a story about themseles as heros. If Americans want to hike along the Iraq-Iran border, let them join the military. Doubt these pukes would have the guts for that. B Smitty

Barry Smith on August 3, 2009 at 3:54 pm

Good point, Barry Smith!
These loon-hikers hate the military and I’m sure they would not want to be rescued by an Army Ranger.
Sayonara, loons.

lexi on August 3, 2009 at 5:25 pm

Obama will just release some more Iranian terrorists for these three American terrorists. He already did this what, three-four weeks ago.

wolf2012 on August 3, 2009 at 5:43 pm

This is the UPDATE.

“The status of the three remained unknown Monday despite efforts by Swiss diplomats to obtain details from the Iranian Foreign Minister. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton also appealed to Iran for information.”

Hillary? Oh, please.

Can you see those muzzies laughing at her? Sources claim the three (3) were warned by border patrol (and Jessica Lynch and Wolfgang Ebner and Andrea Kloiber ). And, I believe it.

goldenmike4393 on August 3, 2009 at 5:49 pm

Fattal sounds like he’s probably Jewish. I think that obliges Israel to go in and rescue him.

A1 on August 3, 2009 at 7:25 pm

Hi Debbie.

I fully agree with your thesis here. American civilians who travel to Iraq and/or Iran do so at their own risk. This is especially true for Iran where we have no diplomatic relations.

I predict that these three will be released by the Iranians to score propaganda points. Through their newfound fame, they will attract an audience from the LIB media where they can push pro-Jihad propaganda.

Thereisnosantaclaus on August 3, 2009 at 7:53 pm

Wow, you people are so incredibly ignorant it’s frightening. I can’t believe that you actually buy all of this and you sit around rallying each other in so much paranoia and hatred. It is so obvious to see from these comments why the rest of the world laughs at American idiocy and ignorance. The lack of empathy or even concern here for fellow human beings is so disturbing and disgusting it makes me ill.

It is amazing how simplistic and stupid Americans can be. You all act like spoiled, ignorant five-year olds, and you congratulate yourself for it. Scary.

Susan Connelly on August 3, 2009 at 8:12 pm

    Thank you

    l simitas on August 3, 2009 at 8:52 pm

    Susan,
America is one of the most compassionate nations on earth. Most of us however are smart enough to place our compassion where it is deserved. For all of the Jews who are terrorized on a daily basis by the so-called “religion of peace” and the millions of anit-semites of the world. For all of the Christians and Jews in the Middle East, Africa, and around the world who are being slaughtered, and driven from their homes just because they are not Muslim. For all of the women who had the utter misfortune to be born in the Middle East and not in the West, where women are treated as human and are not enslaved. I can’t possibly name all of the people and things we have compassion for. I will add that after reading your post I also have compassion for you and hope that someday you will be relieved of YOUR ignorance.

Charmaine on August 3, 2009 at 8:59 pm

    Susan,

While I agree that Bauer, Fattal, and Shourd don’t deserve to rot in hell for taking a hike they knew they were in politically hostile territory, not just on a nature hike, and they knew they were close to the border when they started walking. I don’t believe UC Berkeley or the American Government should be getting involved at all. If they were kidnapped out of their homes or abducted in the middle of a presumably safe city, then yes they should be liberated. However, the simple fact of the matter is that they weren’t; they knew they were close to the lion’s den, so why should they be surprised to become lunch? Iran is excercising their right as an independent soverign nation to detain anyone they feel is a threat to their national security. Bauer being a “freelance journalist” is just too coincidental. To me it looks like Bauer wanted a story, whatever one he could get, and he made a wager that he lost.

As an aside, you might want to rethink your statement about how American’s lack empathy; I would argue that America’s excessive empathy is why the country is the target of so much hate. Thanks in part to the U.N., America has been trying to police the world according to Western ideology and it just can not be done. The world is too religioulsy and culturally diverse to cuddle under one blanket and play nice. What I believe Americans lack is the wisdom that comes with age. America is so young in terms of National age and our people are too protected within our borders to even begin to understand what it is like to live in true poverty and opression. Because of that, our government tries to help by being the bully and telling everyone else how they should behave or they take their toys and leave, much like the “spoiled, ignorant five-year olds” you claim us to be. Our leaders haven’t helped that image in the slightest, but not all Americans are that way. Many of us would just rather mind our own business and live-and-let-live. As long as you don’t bother us, we won’t bother you. Unfortunately, we also aren’t the rich, draw-attention-to-yourselves types, so we aren’t noticed much. I, for one try not to be an “ugly American”, when I am in Rome, I do as the Romans and don’t question their ways. It has worked for them for mellenia and who am I to judge?

Back to the story at hand, I had another thought… maybe this is all a publicity stunt by Iran and the hikers. If these three were known to be sympathetic to certain Islamic nations, then maybe they plotted with Iran to get the world to take notice. Although it would be rather heartless for Bauer, Fattal, and Shourd to leave their families in the dark about their condition and whereabouts; if they are released and walk away from the ordeal touting how reasonably and fair they were treated while under incarceration, that would do wonders for advancing the Iranian plight. The idea might be far-fetched, but in this day-and-age, anything is possible.

Denali on November 9, 2009 at 5:52 pm

Were they carrying a boom box, that was blasting out “Give Peace A Chance”? I understand the plan was to get to Tehran and put on their “Mohammed Sucks” t-shirts and parade around town. Then after pounding down some lattes at Star and Crescent Bucks, it was off to Istanbul, to score some heroin.

Steve Morrissey on August 3, 2009 at 8:52 pm

Great post Debbie, you Nailed It, BULLSEYE!! I am so Fu*king tired of Liberals who choose to do these STOOPID adventures and gets themselves in trouble and want us to risk our soldiers or our diplomacy to save them. Let them ROT!! This is what they believed in. COEXIST now idiots. Same with Laura Ling and the other fools. They are illegal aliens and should be dealt with by the jurisdictions they are in. Ling and Saberi were even worse, they were also spies.

Hello
I am a student who traveled with Josh Fattal over the past 5 months. He was my teacher, mentor, and friend. In this type of situation it is wrong, cruel, and downright pathetic to speak so illy of someone that is in need of help. Furthermore, the majority of what has been said is just incorrect. Josh is the most selfless person I have ever met. He has dedicated his life to serving other people. In no way does Josh, or really anyone, deserve to be detained in Iran.

Thank you for your time
Shannon

Shannon Marrero on August 3, 2009 at 9:50 pm

As someone who personally knows him, may I ask you if he’s devoid of common sense? After seeing this scenario play out again and again around the world, when does someone say; “maybe that isn’t such a good idea after all”. They’re all college educated, so it’s not like they didn’t know the risks. They may be naive but not dumb. They were even warned not to go there, by those who knew better. Russian roulette is a fun game, until the chamber with the bullet comes around to your turn.

Steve Morrissey on August 3, 2009 at 10:40 pm

    “Whore”? It fits perfectly.

    goldenmike4393 on August 4, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Shannon,
So Americans are ignorant, stupid, and lack empathy? Guess what? I bet most of the people who have posted here would not be as stupid and ignorant as to go hiking around on the Iranian border.

As to Americans lacking empathy, why don’t you tell that to the many millions of people worldwide who the Americans have liberated over the years from people such as Ahmadinejad.

Jarhead on August 3, 2009 at 11:07 pm

To Susan Connelly, the real ignorant and stupid is you. The three hikers did it to score some propaganda points for the Oneness when it comes to dealing with Iran. When the Iranians realize they have America-hating/Israeli-hating leftists in their custody, one who maybe has a private phone number to the ruling chinless ophthalmologist in Syria, they’ll be released in no time.

To Shannon, if Josh Fattal is so familiar with the Iraqi-Iranian region, it’s probably he got himself detained by Iran on purpose, not by “accidentally” hiking into the wrong area. Pleeze, honey, spare me your defense of Josh: he knew what he was doing while hiking.

Bobby'sBrain on August 3, 2009 at 11:11 pm

Shannon / Susan

Shannon, I’m sorry, I meant Susan.

Shannon,

I would like to know why you weren’t hiking with them on the Iranian border. Is it because you do have some common sense? I am not trying to degrade you, but this guy was your mentor, and you stated that you have been traveling with him recently.

Jarhead on August 4, 2009 at 12:49 am

This situation is hardly a leftist, liberal conversation. If any of you that read this blog took the time to actually educate yourselves on the situation in Iran, it would be clear that Iran is in the midst of a civil war. Regardless of whether a bunch of hikers found themselves in the mountains of Iran, it comes down to this – young Iranians would like a voice, a fair election, and a nonviolent conclusion to massive government funded terrorism. You should all be ashamed of yourselves to think that a human being, leftist or not, should be detained and imprisoned by another government. Please go educate yourself on the matter and realize that everything you read on this blog is not fact, but opinion.

Educated Woman on August 4, 2009 at 1:16 am

I could give a rat’s behind what Iranians want.

If we help them, next thing we know there will be a knife your our throats.

Kill them all and let God sort it out.

    goldenmike4393 on August 4, 2009 at 11:59 am

Educated Woman, they entered a country illegally. They violated another country’s sovereignty. They didn’t respect the rule of law of another country. Now they are political pawns because of their own doing. Liberal or not we should not risk or soldiers or diplomacy for some fools stoopid actions. Americans go to Mexico or various other countries on a daily basis and get arrested for breaking their laws and have to pay the price. Do we sends envoys and ask for high level officials to responds? NO!! No one cares about them, why I should feel any differently for these law breakers?
You said, “You should all be ashamed of yourselves to think that a human being, leftist or not, should be detained and imprisoned by another government.” So Americans can be reckless and suffer no consequences?

CaliforniaScreaming on August 4, 2009 at 1:40 am

Wow…I’m a little disgusted at these comments and the blog entry itself. They’re still American citizens. At what point to we abandon our citizens, right or wrong? What kind of a country is this to be completely okay with not caring about US citizens anywhere? They’re independent journalists and no matter if they are liberal or not, they are still Americans. I would never leave any American behind no matter how right or left they seem to lean. Ridiculous.

USMCC: Charles Manson and Adam Gadahn are U.S. Citizens. ‘Nuff said. DS

USMCChick on August 4, 2009 at 11:53 am

    Dear USMC CHICK

You ask “At what point to we abandon our citizens, right or wrong?”

Answer: When they demand others to risk their lives for stupid anti American and anti Israel propaganda. When treasonous traitors want to drag you into their little hell. I have read the articles published by one of the three missing. He was looking for the good in Hitler.

That’s when IT’S TIME TO BAIL.

interesting insight into the makeup of the expatriate community there in China. There is a surprisingly large percentage of Westerners living in China and working in China’s electronics industry — so many that ‘U.S. Tech’ magazine has already received a number of requests for our Chinese web edition to be made available in English.
We believe that the timing of this scenario was just too good to pass up. We are an American publication with an Israeli expatriate as publisher, Jacob Fattal.

So sad to see how labeling and hate have distorted some people on this site.

As an Israeli and a Jew I wish peace for everyone whether they agree with Israeli policies or not.

There is no evidence that these 3 young idealists committed an egregious crime other than crossing the Iranian border. That Debbie Schlussel alludes otherwise is her opinion only and how convenient that it fits her need to bash anyone who is liberal.

Liberal Americans who are against Israeli policies don’t deserve to rot in hell or in an Iranian jail solely because of their beliefs. America is a country of free speech – if you can’t deal with liberal thinkers than I suggest you move to Iran yourself.

Robert Gold on September 29, 2009 at 6:27 pm

Thanks for this. Sarah’s rose coloured-vision of all muslims is about to come to an almighty shake up. As soon as I saw these free faces they just looked left-winged to me. And sure enough, now the truth is out, radical left-winged. I mean who considers Iran a desirable place to hike?? let alone vacation. Deluded dim-witted commies in for a rude awakening of reality.

Angelica on November 9, 2009 at 6:43 pm

I am mortified that as an American you can sell your own country-people out the way you have. Regardless of your or my opinion (which occupies the polar opposite of yours) these people are Americans and embody that which our country provides us the opportunity with.

The difference between you and them is that, they may not agree with American policies, but they are out in the world as representatives trying to deliver an impression of the US sothe world doesn’t hate us. (If you want to talk about what hate mongering does, if you want to take it there, where were you Sept. 11? I was looking out the window at the plumes of smoke and hoping my dad hadn’t made it to work yet.) You see you simply blog hatred. There is a difference? It’s rather clear.

What I see in them is curiosity and a desire to make a change in the world. Your statements are heartless, anti-American and (paradoxically) extremist.

Reminder: We don’t live in a totalitarian regime, to disagree with the actions of a government shouldn’t condemn one to torture and confinement.

JD on November 10, 2009 at 11:52 pm

Wow. What hostile and ignorant fanatical people this Debbie person and her cult following are. Three human beings need your help. Until it is a proven fact they are CIA spies or something, they are allowed their political opinions and beliefs. After all isn’t that what you Americans are always spouting. Freedom of expression, political and religious views. Supposedly that’s why your troops fight wars. Democracy is your war cry. Why should three Americans rot in hell because you don’t agree with what you interpret as their anti whatever views. You people are scary.

Martin on December 14, 2009 at 4:03 pm

Reading this sort of vile hate speech is a mirror image of the paranoid crap from the Iranian regime. Interesting that these so-called Christians – who don’t understand the meaning of the word compassion – are taking the same position as the Iranian regime. But all flavors of fundamentalism are equally mental.

It’s not much different than the pages of Der Sturmer, for those who know a little bit of history.

Can anyone explain why those 2 journalists were set free from North Korea, but these retards have not?

My God… Even with examples of insanely bad decision-making like the ones these 3 made, you still have delusional people telling us how “hateful” we are. How shameful we are for not supporting these 3 leftist/socialist America-bashers.

Hey JD… We’re selling our own countrymen out?! Are you freakin kidding me? Have you no sense whatsoever? Are you so blind to see that these 3 leftists sold their own country out long before they left for Syria? In all the interaction they have with foreigners over there do you think for one second that they paint a rosy picture about our country? If you do, I’ve got a bridge to sell you over here.

Hey Mr. European… So, you guys stopped all this “propaganda”, eh? Hmmm… maybe we should all sing Kumbaya and be more like you guys, ha? Well, it looks like you haven’t been keeping up with current events my friend, so try to open your eyes/ears if you can and take in a shot of the reality that’s about to befall your little continent over there. By 2050 you’ll be living in a mostly Muslim continent. You think I’m joking? Do the research.

I’m an Iranian-American, and a naturalized U.S. citizen. It’s because of people like this, their political views, and their effects on America’s foreign policy that we’re suffering in the world today like we are. That invalid peanut-farmer from Georgia single-handedly gave birth to modern day terrorism back in the late 70s. And this invalid, Carter, won’t stop either. He keeps going.

Don’t quote history to me… I lived it back in Iran. I still have relatives there and they all tell me what grave mistakes we (Americans in general) made by electing this communist we have in the White House today.

How much do you wanna bet these 3 are fervent Obama-BOTs? Stupid moron ideologues who don’t even know the damage they cause by spewing their fascist ideology to our enemies over there.

Yes, let the flames begin.

God bless these United States of America. I’m very proud to have been given the opportunity to live and grow here. EVERYTHING that is good in my life I have because of the opportunities presented to me while living in this country. Of course, I was smart enough to take advantage of them, but nonetheless, this is a rare country. God help us all.

Debbie,

I agree that they should never have been hiking near that border and probably deserve no US policy comprise for their release.

However, regarding your Israeli government Golan Heights stance. Horrible. Might does not make right. However you justify it, it was a land grab that did not belong to Israel. Period. I hope you acknowledge Israel’s horribly unjust violations.

DJ: HUH?! Syria went to war against Israel. They lost. That’s the breaks. It legally belongs to Israel. And you’re lecturing me about Israel’s “horribly unjust violations.” Hellooo . . .? That’s Syria’s bag. The Druz Arabs who live in Golan don’t want Syria to get that land. They know how they’ll be persecuted. Wake up, and stop propagandizing for the Muslim Brotherhood. DS

How can you claim to be pro-American and not support our innocent citizens abroad–whatever their beliefs or how reckless they are–when they are detained by an enemy?

If Iran can prove that they committed a crime, we can have this discussion, but they refuse to do so. If they committed a crime against the US (you suggest treason), they should be tried and prosecuted in AMERICAN courts, not Iranian ones!

It in incredibly unpatriotic that are supporting an enemy of the United States in a matter that concerns our legal citizens.

BarryG on February 11, 2010 at 12:20 pm

Barry G, being “pro-American” means being FOR this country and what it stands for and that means being AGAINST those who are against this country and what it stands for. Every country the world over executes it’s traitors. These lefties are traitors, therefore they are against America, therefore if you are FOR America you have to be against THEM. Of course I know you actually understand this. No one is so stupid they can’t understand this. Of course you are engaging in a little Communist “dialectic”, but not very skillfully. I have an idea mr. G, why don’t you go hiking on the Iranian border, don’t be surprised though when no one loses any sleep over your fate.

Well Miss Schlumpfel, if the Iranians didn’t know what kind of useful idiots they were before now, they will after they read your piece. Personally, I think an Iranian prison is the perfect place for them, why’d you have to let the cat out of the bag, y ou might have just helped free them.
