The Palins’ Phony “Pro-Abstinence” Message: Be a Baby Mama, Get on the Cover of People (& a Tacky 8-Page Spread)

By Debbie Schlussel
I gotta hand it to the phony Palin family. First, they tell us how they’re against teen sex and that their pregnant 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is gonna marry the baby daddy, Levi Johnston. After the McCain-Palin ticket gets trounced, that BS blows up. Then, Bristol Palin tells FOX News that promoting abstinence doesn’t work. And three months later, this physical and ideological ho turns on a dime, becoming a paid “abstinence ambassador” for the far-left Candies Foundation.
“Abstinence Ambassador”: Screw as I Say, Not as I Do . . . All the Way to the People Cover

And she has a heck of a way of promoting abstinence and decrying single motherhood. Look at me, I’m on the cover of People because I’m a baby mama (and got paid gazillions to do it). But don’t you try this as home. Because if you do, you might get an 8-page gushing spread and oodles of fame. Yeah, that’s the message to give teen girls obsessed with fame, who’ll do anything to get it. And Ma (Sarah Palin) and Pa Palin are also posing aplenty in this 8-page advertisement for, “Look how cool it is have a kid out of wedlock.” Oh, and to all those blind Palinmessiah worshippers who claimed I was lying when I said the Palins were negotiating with People magazine to sell them exclusive photos, your apology is NOT accepted. If Levi Palin Johnston were smart (and he’s even less so than the Palins, based on what we’ve seen), he’d get a lawyer pronto, sue for custody and for child support from those hundreds of thousands of dollars Bristol collected for this very tacky People spread.
Bristol Palin is on the cover for one reason: the “feat” of having teen sex and becoming a baby mama. And that’s hardly an achievement to celebrate of glamorize on the cover of a celeb magazine and and an eight-page spread of glamor shots. If it were, why aren’t Shaniqua and Lakisha from the ghetto on the cover? They’ve “achieved” just like Bristol Palin. But they don’t have blind conservatives doing a 180 on them and gushing over it.
As I’ve already noted recently on this site, 40% of American kids are now born to single mothers, and it’s getting worse. And America is #1 in the percentage of babies born to single mothers without a stable relationship with a man. Bristol Palin, whose baby is among that 40%, is NOT part of the solution. She is part of the problem. And parading and glorifying it on the cover of a magazine only makes it worse.
Remember the good old days when conservatives (like Dan Quayle) didn’t promote single motherhood?
Wake up. The Palins are phonies. At least the single mothers in Hollywood are honest about what they believe in and promote.

Is the reference to Levi “Palin” intentional or a joke? Either way, you are right on Debbie, and I agree.
It’s time to stop honoring what we say we are trying to prevent.
The upshot truly is that attention starved teens will take the clue more from the “do as I DO, more than do as I say.” Tragically, this is lost on those do-gooders who are paving the way to hell with their “good intentions.”
G-d save us from these idiots who are trying to do good in this ignorant fashion.

Is this what conservatives, particularly social conservatives, want to defend? Non-traditional family arrangements and single motherhood? Because our side now finds them “cool?” Conservatism has come a long way, baby. Towards endorsing the Left’s non-judgmental lifestyles.
Not cool and not conservative.

I think the breakup of the first OCTO-MOM is more interesting the Palin Family. The Palins are so 2008.

I blame the Federal Government for paying for out of wedlock mothers which has resulted in an explosion of “Single Moms”.This all started with LBJ and his great society that mandated paying for these out of wedlock births.
It is now so “in” to be a single mother and no longer is there any shame for getting knocked up without a husband.
I think these women are utterly pathetic and selfish to deprive the children of a father in the raising of these kids.
More than likely the kids will see a steady stream of one night stand sleep overs as a substitute for a real father.
The sad fact is it will effect the females worse than the males to be raised without a father figure in the family.

What’d we expect from politico’s? Be preachy and noble globally; completely @#%$ up at home.

There are various levels of hypocrisy. Perhaps to satisfy your sense of decorum, Bristol should have gotten herself an abortion and murdered the child instead of bringing it into the world.
Personally, I’m glad she didn’t.

RidgeRunner on May 22, 2009 at 11:51 pm

Well… when life gives ya lemons, make lemonade. She will be fine. Better than a pro abortionist on the cover, God knows there are plenty of those in the limelight.

It’s unfortunate that Bristol Palin was being advised by her mother. I will bet her mom looked at this from a political stand point of…turning a negative into a positive spin. Which they have done successfully, due to the amount of money Bristol collected.
Debbie is absolutely right, Levi should definitely seek legal counsel and sue. For his daughter is being exploited for financial gain. Under false pretenses. A question I have is a significant or any of this money going into a trust fund for baby Trip. So the baby might have a decent opportunity in life when it’s older. As in the ability to afford college. If I was in this situation. I would put ALL the money in a trust fund for the baby to go towards a college education. At least the child would have something going for itself in the future. But, doubt the Palin family even emphasizes higher education after high school. Levi needs to take responsibility to ensure that the best interest of his child is being looked after. Sure he feels powerless to some degree. But, that’s an excuse too. Levi needs to be proactive, opposed to being reactive. But, then who knows what arrangement and influence Sarah Palin is having over him.
I cannot believe that the national stats of single births is at 40% and possible higher or going to rise. As Americans, this is something we shouldn’t be embracing, but doing everything possibly to stop it. Why on earth would we use someone to promote abstinence to prevent single/teen pregnancies, when they did the actual act. What a paradox this presents to all of us. Especially to our younger generation.
It’s appauling that society in America is going down this route. When I was younger. It was inbedded in me to not have sex until I was stable and married. And what’s not being discussed is how having unsafe sex can yield other horrific events, i.e., STD’s AID’s, HIV and etc. Just those things alone should be enough to scare a person.
Though the Palin’s have the means to provide Trip with comfort and all the things he will need while growing up. I’m sure the other 90% of teen/single pregnancies don’t have the means. Which comes down to the hard working people flipping the bill for these children. And the timing couldn’t be any worse, factoring in the state of the union currently.
There are a bunch of great organizations out there which preaches the same thing the Palin’s are attempting to do in regard to abstinence. Those teen representatives are still virgins. And their message is “no sex” until marriage. Why aren’t these organizations and reps being heard? Because those people will not bring revenue into the coffers of the media, et al. My how our standards and morals have decade and rather quickly. Between the Palin’s who are doing this for self gain and keep Sarah Palin in the spot light. And Oprah telling 10 year old girls to use vibrators and indepth dicussions on sex. Of course we’ll see an explosion of teen pregnancies. What a wrong message we’re allowing to be sent out to our younger generation. And this is the generation we’re going to rely on for our future. Then we are certainly doomed, especially when you add in all the other mitigating factors America faces today.
Debbie, this was an excellent article and glad you posted it. Since other media outlets only care about money. And they don’t care how they obtain it. Doesn’t America have any more pride left in her? All people are doing is creating shame upon our great nation. Since when do we reward bad or unacceptable behavior? I guess the Obama Administration doesn’t give a hoot either. As much as I love my country and server her with pride. I am ashamed of how we allow these things to happen.
People need to take personal responsibility and on a individual basis. And not be under the guise that others and the government will be there to assist them. Just because people believe it’s an entitlement and owed to them. This nation has regressed so badly over the last 30-40 years. And yet so many just sit back and accept it. It’s time we began to bring America back to what it was before it’s beyond the point of no return.
Currently the UK is looking at it’s credit rating being significantly lower, which will raise intereat rates into the double digits. And America isn’t too far the UK in this matter. With all the spending the government is doing. These aggressive programs Obama wants to imploy. As well as, teen pregnancies. Where is all this money going to come from. You can’t just print more money and then spend it. Or else hyper-inflation will occur over night. America needs to get its priorities straighten out…rather quickly or else we are going to be doomed.
I am optimistic these challenges can be met and even exceed it. If we just get a solid plan in place and then stick to it. Government cannot go on future projections believing this is how our problems will be solved. That has been tried before and failed terribly. Cap and Trade will be another historic devastation if it’s passed. Yet, Obama thinks this will solve a lot by killing many things with one stone. G-d help us all, we’re going to need it.
Debbie and all her readers, may you have a great holiday weekend and be safe. I know I respect and honor what this holiday represents. Unfortunate, many people just see this as an extended weekend or the beginning of summer to take vacations. So many of our meaningful holidays mean nothing more than an extra day off for people. And they just don’t see the real meaning. Be well everyone.

I guess this is the only income she’ll get for a while. I mean, it’s highly unlikely anyone would bring her on as an employee right now (and I don’t just mean Obama’s economy). Probably the closest she’ll earn to an honest paycheck independant from her folks.
I wouldn’t hire her. Not very good decision-making skills – poor judgement and critical-thinking skills too. Also, I have not seen any talent other than modeling. She’d better have one heck of a good resume and non-family references.

There is nothing phony about the Palins. And Bristol is a sweet kid, giver her a break.

justsayno2islam on May 24, 2009 at 1:14 pm

If anyone needs the parental strings taken away it is Levi… that punk needs to grow up. I have a kid their age ( no babies thank goodness) that kid needs to mature quickly
[S: SO DOES THE MOTHER OF THEIR KID WHO LIMITS VISITATION AND IS SEEKING CHILD SUPPORT, WHILE HER FATHER RAISES THE KID AND SHE GOES TANNING (PER HER PEOPLE INTERVIEW). SHE IS AS BAD AS HE IS, IF NOT WORSE. DS]

sharon61 on May 24, 2009 at 9:45 pm

I am not trying to come out in defense for the Palins. I do think you should give them some slack. With the escalating teen pregnancy rates, why is it so shocking that Britol had a baby out of wedlock? I could imagine how upset her parents must have felt at that time.So how were they suppose to handle it?Suppose you were an advocate to oppose homosexual lifestyle and one of your children confesses being gay?Of course you would be disappointed at his sexual orientation but would you stop loving him because of it? We are all human and yes there are some of us that may have had a conservative upbringing but strayed from it.I am not condoning Bristol’s behavior.I would not hold her up as a role model for teenage girls. She admits her mistakes and learns how difficult it is to be a single teen mother. She warns those to think twice before following in her footsteps.Yes I agree the abstinence is a very realistic approach.Instead of just teaching abstinence alone, perhaps teens should be taught about the consequences that ensue from premarital sexual activities besides STDs and pregnancies. They should learn the emotional impact that it may have on them and how mentally damaging it could be for them to get involved in relationships that are beyond their maturity level. You can’t undo what you already did in this case. Its something you are going to have to live with the rest of your life.
[AS: THE “LOGIC” HERE IS JAWDROPPING. “WHY IS IT SO SHOCKING?” EVERYONE’S DOING IT. IS THAT THE NEW CONSERVATIVE APPROACH TO THE WORLD? WELL, IF THAT IS HOW YOU APPROACH THINGS, THEN WE SHOULD SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE, BARACK OBAMA’S PRESIDENCY, TOLERANCE FOR ISLAM, ETC. WHO SAID IT WAS “SHOCKING”? NOT ME. BUT JUST BECAUSE EVERYONE’S DOING IT AND IT’S NOT “SHOCKING,” DOESN’T MEAN IT SHOULD BE PROMOTED, ACCEPTED, AND NOT FROWNED UPON.
IF YOU ARE NOT CONDONING HER BEHAVIOR, YOU SHOULD HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT BEING PROMOTED ON THE COVER OF PEOPLE AND IN AN EIGHT PAGE CHEERY SPREAD INSIDE THE MAG, WHICH SHE, UM, “GRACES” FOR ONE REASON ONLY: SLEEPING AROUND, GETTING PREGNANT, AND BECOMING A BABY MAMA. THE PALINS DON’T SEEM DISAPPOINTED AT ALL. IT STRESSES HOW PROUD THE PARENTS ARE OF HER. IT’S DISGUSTING. THE ARTICLE DOES NOT MAKE IT CLEAR AT ALL HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO BE A TEEN MOTHER. IT TALKS ABOUT HOW HER FATHER, TODD PALIN, IS RAISING THE KID, SO SHE CAN “GO TANNING AND TO THE GYM.” SICKENING. DS]
