It is impossible to find anybody in Poland who did not lost a close relative during WW2. I just think that all this hate Debbie Schlussel is promoting is rather inappropriate.
It is worth to mention that from middle ages until the end of 19 c. Jews from all different countries were migrating to Poland, and as a result of it half of the world Jewish population lived in Poland(within its 1772 borders)at around year 1900.

Instead of apologizing to the Polish people, for posting your ridiculous and ignorant theories, you block the IPs of Poland, so that the Polish can not visit your site anymore.

It is exactly this behaviour of yours that causes anti-semitism in the first place.

Being a jew myself, my family suffered terribly from the NAZIs in the II WW. Many of my relatives died in the NAZI deathcamps. The cousin of my grandfather survived, because some Polish people helped him hide from the NAZIs.

Get your facts and history right and stop being a cause of shame for the Jewish community.

I have never been more embarrassed to be of Polish descent in my life. The complicity of some Poles during the Holocaust is a matter of historical record…in other words, it’s a FACT…no matter how distasteful.

Like it or not, during any occupation, some of the indigenous population WILL cooperate with the invaders. This is also a fact, and is attributable to basic human behaviors.

The fact that Ms. Schlussel pointed these facts out, only goes to show her bravery, and proves her education was not wasted (unlike most with degrees out there). She clearly paid attention, and learned the lessons of the horrors of the Holocaust.

All those out there denying Polish complicity in the Holocaust should go look it up in more depth…you’ve missed something HUGE.

P.S. – Not only am I of Polish descent (50%) but my wife is Jewish. My family and her family both suffered losses during the Holocaust, merely for being Jewish, and/or merely for being Polish. While the Holocaust was the brainchild of the Nazis, we can hate the collaborators just as passionately for their part in the massacre…may they all rot in Hell.

Who would guess Debbie had such wide readership in Poland? Not that she doesn’t deserve to be read, quite the contrary, but it invites some suspicion, especially when so many of her Pole followers deem her insane, fanatic and so on… Regarding the topic in question, I didn’t look into it hard enough to risk an opinion. Being a Catholic, I did look though into the alleged complicity of Pious XII with the Nazis, and have pointed out to Debbie (when she wrote about it and sort of followed the ‘Party Line’ – KGB’s really) that pope’s historical record of saving some 800 thousand Jews during WWII; she didn’t change her opinion, nor did I change mine: this may come as a surprise to the Pole posters but, unlike them, I still believe pope Pious XII did a good deed and, despite one particular Jew’s lack of appreciation, would not have it undone… Having said that, I have to ask:
How many of these concerned Poles are actual Poles, and how many are moles using one blog post of hers as a pretext for attacking Debbie? I mean Jihadist moles, or their commie pals (there are of course many of them left in Poland, since, unlike the Nazis, no Communist was ever brought to justice, there and elsewhere.) One ignores at his own peril that there is an agreement between Islamists and Communists, regardless of one little conflict here, another there (such as the frequent crackdowns on Muslims in Chechnya or in China) – as Ortega y Gasset might put it, they are in perfect agreement: they both want world domination. But meanwhile they have to deal with the USA; once America is defeated, they can proceed to quarrel one another for the spoils.
A lot of the stories in the comments seem far-fetched and psychologically implausible, such as the one from a guy who, ‘being Jewish himself’, believes that blocking access from Poland to one´s own site in response to Pole bullying is ‘exactly the behavior that causes anti-Semitism in the first place.’ He is one of many posters old enough to vividly remember relatives killed in the Holocaust, or if not old enough, at least to treasure the remembrance, so I find it odd that they don’t do the same with the Communist yoke under which Poland lived until very recently, more recently in any case than Nazi threat. Because no one who has known Communism first-hand and therefore knows what real censorship looks like would liken Debbie’s blockade on Pole IDs to it, one would think, but that’s precisely what many did, and at least one guy spelled out ‘Communist censorship’, as if Debbie were sending dissenters to the Gulag…
Out of curiosity, I would like to know the identity and the allegiances of the ‘community organizers’ responsible for mobilizing all that support. Some of the posters, many perhaps, I believe to be real Poles, and really angry, maybe rightfully so. But what of the inciters?

To Hitler, though, whether Poland accepted Germany’s demands or not, was of little concern, given Hitler’s intent to achieve a common boundary with the Soviet Union. Whether this was accomplished through alliances with the Baltic countries or through their annexation by Germany or the Soviet Union was in principle irrelevant.

Similarly, Beck refused an agreement proposed by Great Britain that involved the country’s cooperation with France and the Soviet Union. In doing so, Poland maintained a relatively neutral stance towards both of its powerful neighbours.

A third proposal soon followed, once again elaborated by Great Britain, which promised support to the Polish Government if the country’s borders were endangered. This time around, Beck accepted it.

His hopes for an alliance with Britain thwarted, Hitler shifted his focus to the Soviet Union, with whom Germany would celebrate a non-aggression pact, in an attempt to settle the situation with Russia following the resolution of the impending opening of a Western front.

At the same time, Great Britain and France also sought an alliance with Soviet Union. evertheless, while Germany could offer the Soviets considerable benefits, including vast territories in Eastern Europe and Finland, the Allies could only allow Soviet Union to make use of Polish territory, under vague circumstances and limited conditions (in fact, even this small concession on Beck’s part was only agreed when the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was very much inevitable).

I am always struck when reading comments by Poles that they generally make a distinction between Poles killed during WW II and Jews killed during WW II. As if these were completely separate categories — as if Jews were not Poles. It would be more accurate to say ‘Jewish Poles and ‘non-Jewish Poles’, but I guess the failure to classify in that manner tells us something in general about these posters and their ancestors.

My father-in-law was born in Poland, and lived in Lodz until shortly before the ghetto wall was completed. His family lived above a dry goods store. They had many non-Jewish customers and “friends”. Until, that is, the Nazis came to town. Then, all of a sudden, their Polish gentile “friends” needed little encouragement to sieze the store and all of its contents, leaving his family without any means of support. By the grace of the Almighty, they were able to bribe their way out of Poland, and so survived to eventually produce my wife.

These vile responses prove that little has changed in Europe since WWII. While Israel’s establishment is the result of thousands of years of Jewish national aspirations, modern attitudes towards Jews underline its importance to Jewish survival. Jews must defend themselves, and that requires a national home.

I am sorry for what your family had to go through during WWII, but I think you attitude is shameful and quite damaging to the Jews across the globe. I believe Poles and Jews will came to terms when it comes to their common history but for sure not thanks to you Debbie. Thank Poles for supporting and maintaining all the places of Polish and Jewish martyrdom for so many decades, after all they are paying for it out of their own hard earned taxes. Therefore if you’re so concern with preserving memory of all the victims of Nazi crimes may be you’ll put your money where your mouth is and make a nice donation to Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Oswiecim or Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation for example? Will you take a challenge, or are you just a big mouth with no backbone that is just trying to take advantage of the human suffering to make a name for herself ?

viaggio : I don’t know what Debbie would do with the Poles, but sure enough, in 1939 and later in the 40s, the Soviets found ardent supporters in the Jews, who were joining NKVD en masse and proceeded to torture and murder Poles. (It is true that some of them were later killed by the Soviets, who usually mistrusted those who greeted their arrival with flowers). Later, after so-called “liberation”, the newly created Stalinist SB, or “Polish” Security Service, had ethnic Jews in practically all positions of any power. The amount of torture and death inflicted by these people on ethnic Poles speaks for itself. This was the real reason for the increase in anti-Semitic sentiments in the 40s.

My father’s both uncles, non-Jews, were sent to Treblinka for helping Jews. They never returned. My friend’s grandmother hid Jews in her basement behind a brick wall until Germans left. That’s just 2 stories from 2 families. I guarantee there are many more. I don’t know who this Debbie lady is, but she is unfair to the non-Jew Poles who dedicated their lives helping people survive German occupation.
