Jury Seated in Smiling Terrorist Megahed Trial: Juror Has Muslim Son-in-Law
By Debbie Schlussel
The jury’s been picked and seated in the trial of Youssef Megahed, an Egyptian here on a student visa, who was caught transporting pipe bombs and speeding in a car in South Carolina, toward New York City. His partner in Islamic terrorist crime, Ahmed Mohamed, pleaded guilty and is serving a fifteen year prison sentence. I’ve given the “Debbie’s Notes” version of the case here.
One of the jurors is
a 20-year Air Force veteran who said his son-in-law is Muslim.
Hmmm . . . which do you think will trump his vision in this case–his service to America or his likely desire not to see that, like this guy, his own son-in-law might just be out to destroy America and blow people and buildings up?
I vote the latter. We don’t know this guy’s relationship with his son-in-law, but even if he doesn’t like him, people tend to want to overcome cognitive dissonance. I doubt he wants to see the father or future father of his grandkids–the guy that’s sleeping with his daughter–as a terrorist. And that’s likely gonna be his frame of reference here.
Let’s hope the other jurors aren’t of the O.J. variety and can overcome this guy’s familial loyalties. Among the others:
a mortgage underwriter, a corporate and securities law attorney, an unemployed mechanic, two accountants, a Web designer.
I’m not bettin’ on ’em.
I thought the prosecution had a say in who got picked to be a juror as well. Wtf?
Excellent side by side picture btw.
