Few US Blacks Have American Indian Blood, Contrary to Claims of Many

By Debbie Schlussel

Growing up in a Black neighborhood, graduating from a majority Black high school, and living in a Black city, if only I had a dime for every time someone Black told me they were “part Cherokee” (or some other Indian tribe).  But a Black ancestry and genetics expert says most Black claims of being part Indian just aren’t borne out in DNA testing.  No, you are not a Navajo princess.

DNA Tests Prove Most US Blacks Have Little or No Indian Blood

I’m sure you remember the self-important Henry Louis “Skip” Gates, Jr.  He’s the race-baiter who whined ad nauseam about his arrest by the Cambridge police and got Barack Obama to stick his nose in it.  I don’t like the guy or his divisive race-based politics.  But I gotta give him credit for having the guts to tell the truth about a common myth among Black Americans, something he’s proven to be false in genetic tests he conducts for his Palestinian Broadcasting System show, “Finding Your Roots.”  And for showing a form of racial resentment:  that many Blacks are disappointed when they learn how much White European blood they have (including Cory Booker, the New Jersey Mayor who recently cuddled up to Muslims and attacked the NYPD for conducting legitimate terrorism investigations that saved American lives).

Mr. Gates breaks down each of his guests’ racial makeup into a simple pie chart. In an episode . . ., Newark Mayor Cory Booker discovers he is 47% African, 45% European, and 7% Asian or Native American.

Mr. Gates says that reveal “always gets an emotional response, positively or negatively.” For example, African-American guests are often surprised at how much European blood they carry and their lack of significant Native American ancestry. “It’s the biggest myth in African-American genealogy: ‘My great grandmother was a Cherokee princess,’ ” he says, adding, “The average slave and the average Native American didn’t even see each other, which makes it very hard to mate.”

Yup, you’re just another White person like me, not someone whose ancestors wore cool turquoise squash blossoms and used arrowheads in battle.

I understand the psychological need to think you came from some exotic people to feel special. It’s a stark sign of insecurity and an inferiority complex. Sadly, in our “I need to feel special” culture–where self-esteem has been unduly made into a premium–people are more about what they are and from whom they came, instead of what kind of persons they are and what they, personally, have achieved and contributed to this world.

And it’s not unique to Black people. In college, a woman I grew up with and with whom I went to a Jewish day school became my roommate for a year. I laughed and rolled my eyes when I learned that people around campus referred to this daughter of Hungarian Jewish Holocaust survivors as “The Countess.” She’d told fellow students throughout the University of Michigan that she was royalty and a countess, a complete fabrication. (Jews were not allowed to become European royalty (who were almost universally Catholic)–just the victims of their pogroms, blood libels, and persecution) I guess it wasn’t enough that she was the daughter of people who’d miraculously survived a massive genocide or that she, herself, was a junior Olympic champion. She needed to feel some weird artificial blueblood pedigreed superiority. This phony is now a medical doctor, and I wonder–now that she has the “Doctor” title–if she’s given up her false title of prestige.

But that’s the way it is in a society focused solely on fame at any cost, rather than personal contributions, achievements, and accomplishments.

I’m proud of where I came from–poor Jews from Poland who survived anti-Semitic persecution to come to America and make something of themselves–and who I am. People who aren’t proud of tihs are the ones who feel the need to create this type of faux-exoticism to feel important. It’s not about where you came from. It’s about what you do with it and, more relevant, where you are going.

Frankly, I’m more impressed when someone does something of note and doesn’t have kids out of wedlock that they’ve dumped on society, than whether or not their great-great-grandfather allegedly wore feathers and beaded moccasins.

Despite what I think of him, I’m glad Dr. Gates had the decency and honesty to call out this myth.

Dr. Gates did put something useful out for a change. Your ancestors are your ancestors, and you are you. What have you done with your life? If someone has made a mess of their lives, how does having a famous ancestor make them any better. In fact, it makes the person look even smaller than they are by comparison.

Worry01 on April 2, 2012 at 4:05 pm

Also, since many insist upon a race conscious society, another question arises.

Why should you consider yourself Black, if your ancestry does not even come up to the fifty percent mark for that racial category? Are you not engaging in fraud? This question could be asked of others who make race based demands.

Worry01 on April 2, 2012 at 4:10 pm

No serious anthropologist or sociologist today believes there is any scientific basis to race. The old classifications are suspect. And the human genome has been so scrambled up its hard to tell how and when humans differentiated when they first spread out of Africa a few million years ago. This is true even of Jews who resemble the peoples they live among and no serious Jewish scholar would deny that intermarriage took place, though conversions probably attended it. We’re all alike in some ways and different in others and that defines the range of humanity today.

NormanF on April 2, 2012 at 4:42 pm

Unfortunately, the far-Left has assumed many of the qualities of the old segregationists and racialists of long ago. The racists of old assumed that Blacks were uninterested in learning, and had a preferance for violent and/or criminal behavior. In the Trayvon Martin case, you had a teenager assuming the persona of a violent thug and petty criminal. Martin’s conduct would be analogous to a Jew in France in 1941 happily sewing on his yellow star and acting out the roles set forth in discarded copies of Der Stürmer left for him by the Waffen-SS. This person’s actions would be deemed to be insane, degrading, self-loathing, and objectively anti-Semitic by any observer. His fellow Jews would shun him as a dangerous maniac, and would certainly not have lamented his demise. There would have been no communal embrace of such a person, unlike what the late Trayvon Martin has experienced.

      Worry01 on April 2, 2012 at 6:22 pm

This article is about people trying to falsely claim an identity that is not relevant to them. How dare you demean and belittle a teenager who was killed with no evidence of him trying to bring harm among others. People were supporting Trayvon because there was no evidence of him trying to commit crimes and because this situation was a reflection of our society! The killer was the ONE that was WRONG not Trayvon who is long dead and 6ft under! Sure Trayvon was young and there is evidence days months prior to his death that he got in trouble but that was irrelevant to his death. If you want to be technical there is evidence that the killer was agressive towards officers and at least one ex girlfriend. However he seemingly does not get a felony! Back to Trayvon many children black, white, Latino and Asian in America have succumbed to mischievousness during their teenage years. Its absolutely sad that many people have more compassion towards the injustice of a white person over a black person.

Wow, I don’t even need to test your DNA to know what you are full of.

The “experts” you are relying on are all Left-wing propogandists. I am American (of Korean extraction). Not only is it PLAINLY OBVIOUS to me when I see another Oriental, but I can easily tell a Korean, Japanese, North (Manchu)Chinese, South (Han) Chinese, Mongolian, Taiwanese, or Tibetan apart from each other… and I mean AMERICAN ones (so I’m not telling by dress or language, but ONLY by physical characteristics).

Also, your mention of Jews – Jews alternately like to claim a lot of different things, but here are the main 2 claims that are asserted ad nauseum. 1) They claim to be a religion, not a race 2) They claim to be an ethnicity, not a race. So, your argument that Jews look like the people they live next to… why, yes. And Catholic Mexicans look like Protestant Mexicans too. And Catholic Koreans DON’T look like Catholic Mexicans. So, your Jewish argument holds no weight. Jews will be the first to tell you THEY ARE NOT A RACE.

However, here in America I know many 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th generation Mongoloids (aka Orientals – which is a race) and THEY DON’T SPROUT BLOND HAIR AND BIG ROUND EYES. 3-4 generations later living surrounded by Whiteys and eating Big Macs and converting to Christianity, and they are STILL IDENTIFIABLY A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RACE unto themselves.

“Wow, I don’t even need to test your DNA to know what you are full of”

Just as you can tell a person of various Asian ethnic backgrounds…I can tell a -legitimate- native american from various regions in an instant. And no, we are not “an asian extraction”. Genetics have proven that Native Americans and Asians share no more common ancestry than Europeans and Asians. Our ancestors, in both directions, split some 40,000 years ago.

I can comfortably say I have seen more “full blooded” native americans in my life than ANY non-native ever has. People forget…legitimate native americans are part of native american COMMUNITIES…we are not floating anomalies that happen to run into each other. We live in communities of closely-related groups…with our own languages, histories and cultures. Just as “Asians” are not one large, homogenous cultural group, neither are we. I have seen Native Americans every single hour of every single day for my entire life (even if I am the only person in the room…). I see more native americans on a daily basis than I see non-natives. My point in all of this…is that even among the THOUSANDS of full-bloods I KNOW (not just have seen, but KNOW, personally, due to familial relations or being in the same community/region) and one thing I KNOW about us? We do not all “look the same”. We are not all shaped the same and there is no “native american look”. Just as there is no “asian” look. Folks from Russia and folks from China are all asian…yet would you say they look the same??

Anyways, I am SICK and TIRED of people thinking their family rumor of native american ancestry (rumors that usually turn out to be false) makes them “one of us”. If I told you Paris Hilton was a Korean Woman because she thinks her great-great-great grandma was a Korean Princess, would you believe me?

French Jew here and yes, I constantly hear the negatives on the French but that’s who I am.

Who knew Al Sharpton is blood-related to Stom Thurmond?! Hahaha I’ll bet Sharpton nearly dumped down both legs when he found that out. Maybe that’s why he hates whites so much.

There aren’t many of them, but some JEWS also have American Indian blood, most notably those descended from Solomon Bibo (aka Don Solomono). Originally from Prussia, he and his brother settled in the West and became traders. Solomon was ultimately made governor/chief of the Acoma Pueblo tribe. He married the former governor’s daughter Juana Valle, who adopted the Jewish faith and raised their kids as Jews. (They ultimately settled in San Francisco.)

RiDC: When I was in elementary school, my dad bought me the book, “Katzimo, Mysterious Mesa,” about Solomon Bibo and the Acoma tribe.

Katzimo, Mysterious Mesa

There were many Jewish traders and settlers who married American Indians in the old West. But most of them either lost their Judaism or their families did in the ensuing generations. I have a lot of books about this topic in my library. And the cool thing, as you pointed out, is that Solomon was the first (and perhaps, only) Jewish Indian chief. The entire tribe converted to Judaism and observed the Jewish Sabbath, etc. My cousin, who is an Orthodox Jewish Chasid, was a hippie who lived on a commune before he became religious, and his wife is an American Indian who converted. There are a number of Indian Jews. I know a woman whose mother is a Jewish woman from England and her father an Apache. A number of the men in her family were Navy Seals. She was a soccer All-American at a major Catholic university.

She calls herself a “proud Jew” and identifies strongly with both communities. She’s religious.

Also, its not just blacks that claim Indian relatives. Many whites do the same thing.

I’d obviously be illegal under the racist Nuremberg laws. That said, many people today are proud of being multiracial. The Census Bureau now lets you check of a box for that instead of having to say you’re white, black, etc. After what happened last week, some people in this country still have hang ups over race. Its not an issue for me.

NormanF on April 2, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Interesting.

America used to be defined a century ago by the “one drop” rule where even a single drop of black blood was enough to render a person racially inferior as a black. And racial divisions in American society at that time were fairly rigid.

Other countries have a different history. Brazil is mostly European like Argentina but it never had the Argentine hang-up about race. A third of population is of mixed race – the so-called pardos, of European and African blood. Very few Brazilians, unlike in the rest of Latin American are mestizo, that is mixed race descendants of native Amerindians and Europeans. There is racism in Brazil but its more a matter of social status than a rigid racial caste. The wealthier one is, the more white one could be. Unlike in America, people could negate the visible effects of racism by climbing up the social ladder.

Some forms of racism were rigid. Jews could not escape their fate in Nazi Germany, regardless of whether they were born into the Jewish faith or converted to it. In other times, conversion to Christianity would have been a form of negating anti-Semitism by adopting the outward values of the majority society. Nazism by definition excluded the Jew from the volk. Whether ut gets more complicated is that mixed race persons were treated differently based on how many Jewish ancestors they had on the Jewish side of their family. This always favored a mixed race person with an Aryan mother as opposed to a person born to a Jewish mother of course is Jewish, regardless of the religious faith the mother may happen to follow. It posed an inconvenience to Nazism’s black and white view of the world since not all sexual unions fell into neat polar categories. This bedeviled the regime and its bureaucrats right up to the end of the Third Reich.

The large point often made these days is a race is a social construct, not a biological fact as early generations of racists assumed was an immutable fact. Skin color obviously can’t be altered but a person’s faith, social standing and cultural identification can be modified. I am also of mixed race – I have a German mother and a Romanian-Israeli Jewish father. My heritage comes from different sources: German, Slavic, Latin and Jewish. They define me and who I am. And the biggest refutation of the notion that race is a determinant of a person’s place in life is exemplified by Barack Obama, a mixed race person who had a white mother and an African father.

I am from Obama’s generation; he is only slightly older than me but in a sense the world was already changing when we were born and this fact of life is more or less accepted nowadays, no matter what the racist fringe in American society thinks of it.

NormanF on April 2, 2012 at 4:29 pm

Interesting to note that one drop of black blood was enough to justify disenfranchisement of an individual and all that went with it, but to be considered to be American Indian required minimum one sixteenth native ancestory. And in the past couple of decades tribes have been using the 1/16 rule, or rules like it, to disenfranchise some who claim native American heritage so that they can divvy the spoils of Indian casino gambling among a smaller, presumably more elite group.

Which I suppose points to how history is a study of changes.

Hi Richard. I am one-sixteenth Native American and have the census records to prove it. I can only prove it for myself not for many Blacks. And BTW Bo, I am also from SC and Snoop Dogg’s grandmother is from the same surrounding area as I am! So yes, he is way off on this one!

Interesting article and thanks for bringing this topic and story to the table DS. You see, I’m african-american, on my mother’s end of the family there mainley dark-skinned, but on my father’s end of the family there light-skinned, and if any of you met me in person, you’ll think that I’m spanish or a little middle eastern because of how light I am physically(my skin is light brown and a little red).

Plus, I didn’t Corey Booker was of mixed-race (same ethnic background as Obama and our pal here, Skunky), I thought the guy was african-american, anyways, I judge people based on their character, motives, etc., NOT on what they physically look like. And you couldn’t have said any better Debbie when you said, “It’s not about where you came from. It’s about what you do with it and, more relevant, where you are going.”, I totally agree with you in that, in life these days, you have to earn things by the old fashion way of hard-work, using you’re intelligence, etc., because NOONE is going to give you or guarantee you anything if you don’t have the work ethic to do so!

A politically incorrect part of history is also the fact that the ice and land bridges that linked the continents years ago had lots of europeans and indians mixing. Lots of that kind of history isn’t convenient.

samurai on April 2, 2012 at 5:19 pm

That’s an interesting study by race-baiting “Skip” and a hilarious story from you, Debbie, to which i can relate.

I was in the Army in the late ’70s/early ’80s and enlisted personnel was about 65% black at that time, so I lived and worked with a lot of black soldiers during those years and nearly all of the black guys I knew claimed to be “part Cherokee” (or something.)

As an aside, I spent my tour in the 2/10 Air Cavalry, the 10th Cav having the distinction of being the “Buffalo Soldiers” (and whose unit insignia shows a buffalo), because of its history as being the first (I think) all-black cavalry unit which the Indians called “buffalo soldiers” because of their strange, (to them) buffalo-like skin and hair appearance.

Right on! I don’t judge people by identity politics and couldn’t care less. Besides, in 2012 one can always dress the part without being the part and that seems like the FUN part anyway. I am working literally streets away from Dr. Gates (and the infamous place where the Cambridge police acted “stupidly”) this week and I see ALL KINDS when in this neighbourhood.

There is a hippy, organic, vegan cafe that I sometimes have lunch at and sometimes it’s fun to watch the people and their distinctive styles and sometimes it’s not (I get annoyed at how pretentious they look and their self-satisfaction). Last week a woman in VERY ornate African garb came in and I couldn’t stop looking at her because she had just fabulous style. But other than her style (her jewelry was gorgeous!!!) she had 3 little kids who ate well and behaved well and I was mesmerized by that too. I didn’t care about if her nationality was behind her exotic look…I enjoyed her exotic look and well behaved kids!

Like DS says, I am more into WHO people are and WHAT they do than any of this foolishness. I’m a bit o’ black, mexican and irish and italian and I look like I’m an edgy, Jewish, Liberal gal (which I am not). I just try to be an independent and good American!

Skunky on April 2, 2012 at 5:30 pm

@ Norman F… “race is a social construct”

You’re either deluded or being disingenuous for the sake of political correctness if you actually believe that.

How do you explain the vast differences between ethnic societies who to this day have not invented the wheel, agriculture or simple architecture and other ethic societies that have been circumnavigating the globe for centuries and have put humans in space?

Is that just a “social construct?” Yeesh.

DS_ROCKS! on April 2, 2012 at 5:48 pm

It is human beings who create civilization, construct cities and roads and create culture. This comes from their minds. So yes, race is a social construct, not a biological reality. That is the only reason people are different and human beings can intermarry.

Patrick on April 2, 2012 at 7:40 pm

So what else isn’t new. Shamelessly creating identities for one’s self that are based more on wishful thinking than bearing any resemblance to reality has become a tradition not just among Americans, but the whole world.

In the early 60s, when Bob Dylan first started to gain some notoriety, he used to tell all sorts of cock & bull stories about being raised by hillbillies in the backwoods of who knows where. Same thing with Jim Morrison in the mid 60s. He genuinely thought he had the spirit of a dead Native American in him, and wanted people to believe his parents were dead and he was raised by a pack of wolves or something. Reading the early press releases and interviews of these two now is downright comical. One can keep up this sort of goofiness for just so long before the truth finally catches up. (For those of you who are unfamiliar with these two, the former is the son of midwestern middle class Jewish furniture store owners, and the latter was the son of an Episcopalian navy admiral).

And for the record, “Colonels” Parker and Sanders both did serve brief stints in the army, but neither for long enough to rise above the rank of corporal.

Irving on April 2, 2012 at 7:53 pm

    LOL Irving.

At least with Morrison (whom I still am a fan of, as well as with Dylan but I know more about Jim Morrison…) it was so NEW at the time and seemed cool and charming and rad but now, in 2012, all that crap just causes eyes to roll because it’s so over and pretentious.)

Skunky on April 2, 2012 at 8:22 pm

I find it interesting that the quoted DNA analysis finds a black man of presumably typical black race to be roughly half white European. Obama Jr. achieved this blend in just one generation, that is if you believe he is the son of Obama Sr. And yes, this also presumes Obama Sr. to be of 100% black African heritage.

http://articles.latimes.com/2010/may/16/local/la-me-mozingo-first-20100516

The link above is to a multi-part story that ran on successive days in the LA Times. It is about a journalist who went on a journey to explore the roots of his rather unusual last name, Mozingo. He found his ancestor at the root of the family tree was from Africa and he chronicled the evolution of parts of his family tree from black to white. He found present day relatives who flat out refused to believe they had a black ancestor that originated the family name and others who simply accepted it as the way things were. From previous generations he found stories of a nominally black relative who was light skinned enough to skirt Jim Crow laws. Very interesting story.

I have heard some of the things you people believe about them and I study history. Your people were and from the what I have read on this blog, still very racist toward blacks. Did any of you ever stop to think that African Americans like to and/or believe they are part Native American because they don’t want to be part European. Most of the unions that gave them that white blood was not willingness on the part of the female. Maybe the family is ashamed that their ancestor could not fight off the white man who wanted her. As for Travyon, I think you guys are against him because his killer was a man of Jewish heritage. I hope that you all remember that in the Holocaust, your people were not the first to be killed or dragged to the camps. That honor goes to the people of mixed Black race, the Blacks, and the gays. Did you read the article? Where has Debbie indicated that she hates black people? The answer is that she hasn’t and she doesn’t. Debbie here is actually citing Henry Louis Gates with approval in saying that there is no Indian blood in them. She also compared this with her own Jewish Heritage and pointed out that the important thing is to be proud of own’s own heritage and of what one does and where one is going.

RIF = Reading is Fundamental.

Nobody should be “bashed” for no reason. Nobody should be hated without just cause. However, the notion that all people are the same and compatible with one another simply isn’t true. Never has been. This mindset has lead to the Islamification of Europe. London and other major cities in Europe are now Muslim controlled and will remain so.

The immigration officials there and here have bought into the myth. No attempt will be made to solve the real problem — the physical presence of Muslims in the West. No, that would be noticing that people really are different and therefore racist.

All races are acutely aware of race save one. They suffer accordingly.

OK everyone, First of all reading is fundamental and so is comprehension. If you understand what your read and use the education that the school system tried to give you, you will see that there is a negative undertone to African Americans claiming Native American ancestry. Second the article is not what made me think that this was a bashing cite, it was the comments you guys were making. I can not believe that you were making or allowed to make them without one person besides myself taking offense. I know who sold the slaves I also know who was one of the biggest supports of keeping blacks slaves. I am working on a Ph.D. of History. You guys really should take up the calling. It is ok in my opinion what your ancestors did at a time past. I know for a fact that my own ancestors owned slaves. It was the times, however we must remember that in allowing racism or hate of any sort to exist so publicly is to allow for the repeating of past offenses. I am sorry if it appears that I can not read but i can comprehend you should try that some times. There is more to reading then the words on the page. Well anyway back to my life. I did read some of the other posts by Debbie and I do love them. I am happy that Debbie did confront this issue. People don’t speak about race so openly often and it is good to see someone attempt to do it in an intellectual manner.

Jeff- in case you have not noticed by the details of the article many Blacks hate that they are Black. They will do anything to appear not be on team Black man.

Again please read the comments that were made some of them were plain old supremacist. I am not sure but does the KKK like Jews.

Demorcats were the leaders of the anti-abolitionist movements. They were then and still are prochoice. They believed that people did not have the right to push their views on others, through government or otherwise. Here were are more than 100 years later with the Right desiring the biggest government possible, governing personal lives, while businesses can do as they please and people who will more than likely never own their own multibillion dollar business fighting to put them in control.

MAY YOU ALL LIVE IN THE WORLD YOU SO DEEPLY DESIRE.

What on April 3, 2012 at 7:46 am

Ok “What”, late last night you falsly accused us of racisim in you’re inane comment, and JeffE asked you if you’ve read the article from start to finish. I don’t know, but from the looks of it last night you didn’t read the article, then again earlier on today you commented again, I assumed you read the article before you made you’re conclusions, and here’s you’re comment that I can’t put 2-@-2 together:

“it was the comments you guys where making.”

With all due respect, what the hell are you talking about? Lookit, this is my first comments since 4:30 pm yesterday afternoon and since I’ve commented here yesterday I didn’t read any comments here that was offensive, out the ordinary, etc. Far as I’m concerned, all of the comments are rational, intelligent, well-educated, etc., I didn’t read any of the first 38 comments (including mines and you’re two) that was racist, bigoted, and/or offensive, so you’re probably assuming what some of the readers said, in other words, you want to read what you want to read instead of actually reading what the posters said. And I couldn’t get over you’re other message from late last night:

“As for Trayvon, I think you guys were against him because his killer was a man of Jewish heritage.”

Uh-huh, and I don’t why the hell you changed the subject, first off, George Zimmerman is NOT jewish, he’s a multi-racial man of European-Latin American mixture. Secondly, NONE of us including DS her said ever said that Mr. Zimmerman is a hero, and the guy should get a fair-trial instead of being lynched by hateful and vile race-baiting racist demagoguges. And BTW, as JeffE said to you this morning, NOT all of the folks who comment here are of European lineage, there are folks of African lineage who comments here (myself, Squirrel3D, Gerald, D. O’Nay, Red Ryder, etc). Then there are other minorities who comments here, ie, Skunky (multi-racial woman), California Screaming (Mexican-American, hispanic), Juan (hispanic-american), RaymondinDC (Arab-American Jew), Infidel (East Indian-Punjab lineage), G.R. Schrobiaum (Egyptian-Arab-Christian), etc.!

“A nation is defined by its borders, language & culture!”

Oh for crying out loud “What”, why are you babbling on like a loony bin escapee??

For a PhD student your writing is incomprehensible and poor. I have no idea what your bitching about.

Billy already told you where the KKK and Jim Crow sprouted from. You don’t seem to care to know your history knowledge is severely lacking as you steamrolled all over it and spewed dumb, quackery like the following…

” [Democrats] They believed that people did not have the right to push their views on others, through government or otherwise. Here were are more than 100 years later with the Right desiring the biggest government possible, governing personal lives, while businesses can do as they please and people who will more than likely never own their own multibillion dollar business fighting to put them in control.”

TODAY Democrats force their beliefs on EVERYONE. It’s what PC is all about. The only freedoms Liberals love these days are GAY freedoms and ABORTION freedoms.

Yeah, we know you’re a perpetual student when you post sh** like the Right desiring the biggest gubmint possible. Are you thinking Obama-Putin is on the RIGHT? That is like believing desert sand is wet!

You’re just a freak who wanted to accuse a bunch of peeps who are NOT racist as raaaaaaaacist so you can feel better about yourself. Stop being so selfish and help someone in need.

You’re boring and mixed up and have learned everything WRONG!

Skunky on April 3, 2012 at 12:14 pm

What, here is the fatal flaw to your argument and your “tell”.
Quote:”Here were are more than 100 years later with the Right desiring the biggest government possible, governing personal lives,”
You have just perfectly described the Left, not the Right as you claim. Big government, controlling peoples lives = Obamacare. If you want to express the goals of the Right look to Reagan, small government and thus greater individual freedom.
In choosing off on multibillion dollar businesses (which by the way create jobs and fuel the private sector economy) you all but identify yourself as an OWS type.

Finally I don’t claim a PhD, didn’t want or need one to be an engineer – my Master’s does me just fine. But you would be wise to have a backup plan if your pursuit is a doctorate, particularly in history. You simply don’t write well enough to make it.

Not all Jews, even in the US are descendants of Polish peasants. G-d bless those who are and others who escaped Eastern Europe but Sephardic Jews, DID INDEED acquire aristocratic titles in Spain and Portugal pre-Expulsion. Jews have been in Italy since Second Temple times, including my ancestors, and we are called Italkim but there are Sephardi Jews in the South (of Italy) as well. We too achieved prominent places in the Courts of Kings without converting as the Honorable Benjamin Disraeli, was forced to do in England.
The ORIGINAL Jewish settlers in the US were all Sephardim and many served the country prominently.
We however are not necessarily “white” and I have a lot of mixed blood that got to Italy via the Silk Road. I have Indian (east) friends who tell me I look like a Kashmiri and I have relatives who are “blacker” than Obama. This in no way diminishes Debbie’s Jewishness or “whiteness” but neither does it diminish the perception by others that I may not be exactly “white” either and the consequences are the same as for someone who has an identifiably African ancestor.

This white girl, I dated briefly was a complete BS artist on so many topics, including her “Cherokee” ancestry….maybe she had a great-grandparent, whose Brother-In-Law was part indian on his maternal mother’s side….she often talked she was a minority in her profession….environmental clean-up being a woman and “Indian”…she was a stupid, liar, but kissed well…..I’m out!

I enjoyed DS’ very funny story on “The Countess” as well as others who posted of their pretentious (and insecure) friends.

Loony “What” wrote the following…

“MAY YOU ALL LIVE IN THE WORLD YOU SO DEEPLY DESIRE.”

Since I am all week I’m in the “most opinionated zip code” in the USA (Cambridge) I reckon it would be “What’s” utopia. The place he/she would would like to reside most.

It’s not all that great. As we well know, Liberals are the world’s biggest hypocrites and even beat “Holy Rollers” in that race.

If one goes to the local “Whole Foods” supermarket (and there are TWO like it…one is a co-op and the other is the real WF) you will have to endure lots of unhappy yet hip and earthy Liberals. They are NOT polite. They are NOT more giving. They are just as selfish (if not more) than if one were to shop in a low-income part of town. They think about THEMSELVES when shopping.

Sure, they look the part and spend more $$$ and have expensive, organic food and items to choose from but they are NOT nicer than the average bear. They are pushy, nasty, selfish and sanctimonious.

Same can be said about the Organic cafe. I have to say the staff is very nice but the Liberals who look the part who flood the place act like the REPUBLICAN stereotype they have constructed.

Sometimes it makes me sick and sometimes I enjoy the irony.

Skunky on April 3, 2012 at 12:40 pm

Growing up, I was interested in geneology, and was told that on my mother’s side, we have “the first congressman from Misourri to be impeached” (a piece of family-lore that always got a weird sort of pride going, although no one seems to know the name of that congressman), and we also have a Chocktaw princess. I wondered – why is she a princess? Why not a squaw? I guess, since it’s not PC to say squaw, people say princess, instead? Why not just woman?

Now, from the location of my progenitors, it’s entirely possible that one or two did, in fact, marry one of the local tribes before those tribes were driven away. I come from white stock, who had more access than blacks, so it’s possible.

It is also unverifiable, because they didn’t keep written records of American Indian WOMEN. Men? Yeah, that they could write down. But not women. Go figure.

Maybe that’s why the “Indian Princess” thing is so popular. You can’t prove it, but you can’t disprove it, either.

Well, until now. With DNA. But that only proves a lack of Indian blood, not a lack of “princess.” If there is Indian blood in you, bet your bottom dollar that it’s from a “princess.”

LOL

Actually, I AM (verifiable) descended from European nobility. Just not legitimately. I’m certainly not going to inherit the throne.

Who knows? May some black guy did “Poke-ahontas”.

CornCoLeo on April 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm

@ Skunkie – well stated about monied liberals – they are exactly as you descibed as well as *always* being passive-aggressive.

I went to visit someone who lives in a *huge* (it’s as expansive as many small towns) gated community in Thousand Oaks, all million-dollar homes and up, a couple of days ago and was appalled at the number of “Obama 2012” bumper stickers on all the various Lexuses (Lexi?), Beamers and Land Rovers – every other car had one – and I thought how perfectly and sickeningly hypocritical. These “progressive” snobs pushing their psychotic social and fiscal agendas on everyone else while they live safely cordoned off behind security systems, spiked iron fences and armed guards at the gatehouse from the “rabble” they supposedly champion.

@ corncoleo – I tried not to laugh because that joke was so immature and crass, but I did anyway.

DS_ROCKS! on April 3, 2012 at 3:15 pm

IIRC, Johnny Cash claimed for some time to have indian blood, but later admitted it was actually his youthful wishful thinking. And I’d be willing to bet far more whites claim to have an ancestor who signed the Declaration of Independence than is mathematically possible. People like to make themselves more important/exotic. And yes, I’m a black woman in my 40’s. I would say that older generations, especially those who lived through times when it was legally worse to be black (Jim Crow laws, etc.) had more at stake by “bumping up” their social status. I have friends of my older relatives who had fanciful Indian claims (from what we could tell), but I very seldom meet anyone in my age range who makes similar claims.

maatkare on April 3, 2012 at 3:49 pm

What Gates said in his book is correct, however be aware that in Florida the Seminole tribe (which means runaway) was formed from refugees from other Indian tribes (Cherokee & Creek mostly) as well as escaped black slaves. So, this tribe does have a lot of members who “look” black but are also very much Indians.

Also most people think that American blacks received their European blood from the slave owner “having fun” with the female slaves. That indeed happened (Simon Legree was a good fictional example), but most people don’t know that in the late 1600s and early 1700s there were white European slaves in the South (mostly Irish).

They were known as “indentured servants”, but they were basically treated as slaves. Slave owners would often forcibly “mate” their black slaves and white indentured servants. It was a horrible thing that history brushed under the carpet. However, this can be seen via DNA because most black American’s European DNA is Irish rather than English (who were the slaveholders). The proof is in the DNA.

What this all means is that ALL of us are cousins and all of this racial stuff is a bunch of nonsense. When mankind finally realizes that we are all family, all of the hatred & killing will end.

jimmyPx on April 3, 2012 at 4:40 pm

Jimmy, you reminded me of a book I read once that correctly told the story of how the indentured servants and serfs had lives worse than the slaves and that they were actually below the slaves.

I am not commenting in a “king of pain” manner but in a manner that just shows that American History has been really ruined by the Liberals and Marxists who now help shape it (yeah, I am talking about YOU Bill Ayers, your terrorist pig!).

As things are, I am interested only in the TRUTH and not any constructs.

Skunky on April 3, 2012 at 5:36 pm

From your article…

Sadly, in our “I need to feel special” culture–where self-esteem has been unduly made into a premium–people are more about what they are and from whom they came, instead of what kind of persons they are and what they, personally, have achieved and contributed to this world.

My comment reflects a speech I heard recently at our All Sports Banquet here in my town in Florida. Coach Nick Sabin was the guest speaker in from of what had to be 1500 local business people and sports enthusiasts.

His main theme was the team’s winning.

He related with how they go after certain players for their football team. He said the don’t look at the skills of the person, but who the person is. Wow. You could have heard a pin drop in the huge convention center.

That’s what it is all about. Who cares if you are a fucking princess when you cheat, steal and do other things that show you have no character, yet you feel like you should be treated well because of a title.

Give a break, princess.

Remember do unto others…

BethesdaDog on April 4, 2012 at 12:28 am

Most American Blacks are, on average, 1/4 White; some a little more and some a little less. Few have any Native Amercian ancestry. There were no “Indian Princess” since chiefs were elected by the elders of the tribe. Perhaps Debbie’s friend, “the Countess” may have earned her moniker, not from a claim of nobility, but for being a JAP–Jewish American Princess ! As for me, Irish, Scots, English (of Greek origin), and Jewish.

Paul on April 3, 2012 at 8:43 pm

The late Bob Marley claimed a Syrian Jewish ancestor.

BethesdaDog on April 4, 2012 at 12:12 am

jimmypx and skunky:

I studied indentured servitude plenty in school. The reason: my state was established as a penal colony for British to come work off their debts. I have encountered “the white indentured servants had it worse than the black slaves” argument before, and it is not true in the least. Where the indentured servants were freed once their debts were paid, black slaves had no realistic opportunity for freedom. Further where the children of indentured servants were born free, the children of black slaves were not, even in cases where one parent of the child was Caucasian.

Also, indentured servants either volunteered themselves as a way to escape European poverty, or were sentenced to their fates by committing crimes or not paying their debts. Thus, in contrast with African slaves, indentured servants were personally responsible for their own plights. Another key difference is that after their term of indentured servitude ended – as short as three years – many indentured servants either became landowners with their own farms or began to pursue a trade using the skills that they had learned during their servitude, making them better off economically than they were had they never been indentured servants in the first place. Thus, unlike the African slaves, they had the opportunity to generate their own wealth and pass it – as well as a strong family and value system – onto their progeny. Many former indentured servants and went on to own African slaves, and of course did free their African slaves as they themselves had been freed. (Yes, I know that a number of former African slaves were emancipated and became slaveowners themselves, but their numbers were much smaller than the number of former indentured servants who did so, just as the number of free blacks who fought for the Confederacy – not to be confused with the slaves and servants that the Confederate army used as cooks, ditch/trench/latrine diggers and other laborers – was tiny.)

In the prison colony that became my state, MANY folks went from being indentured servants to wealthy influential landowners or businessmen in a few decades. This economic opportunity is why Europeans flocked to America in droves WILLINGLY, and the lack of such opportunity – not to mention basic rights and freedoms – is why Africans did not come willingly but had to be brought here via manstealing (which incidentally the Old Testament of the Bible declares to be a capital crime … in addition the OT forbid a slave system that had no opportunity of emancipation for a slave or his descendants … so much for this nation being founded on Christianity). So, while the Marxist indoctrination that passes for history in our schools is regrettable, replacing their lies with another set of lies from Stuff Black People Don’t Like and DixieNet.org (or is it now League of the South?) isn’t the solution. It is like getting your “news” from talk radio, Breitbart, World Net Daily and the Murdoch empire: the fact that it is more ideologically favorable for you than the New York Times and CNN doesn’t make it any more truthful.

And not that it matters, but I am indeed 1/8th Creek Indian (mother’s side) and part British (father’s side, and yes my British ancestor was a slave owner) and can easily prove both via government records to any “birther” (though far more realistically my response to any such scoundrel would be “mind your own business and get off my property!”). Both my nonblack ancestors left a good amount of land, business acumen and other resources to their descendants, a legacy which my family benefits from to this day, as it includes a good contingent of entrepreneurs, college-educated professionals, ministers, police officers and military veterans (but no professional athletes or entertainers, unless those who supplement their income as church pianists count among the latter). And as my family generally adheres to the tradition of pursuing our postsecondary educations at either vocational institutions or predominantly black colleges founded or influenced by Booker T. Washington, none of us gave any thought to declaring ourselves Native American to benefit from any programs (whether public or private) though we legally could have.

Though I find it odd that I could have declared myself to be Native American based on being 1/8 Creek, but not Caucasian based on my British heritage. But hey, I didn’t make the rules, I just follow them. Apparently, so did the police officers who used to routinely stop me and ask for identification back when I was younger and fit their profiling models. Then again, any profiling model that would have considered an obvious computer nerd like me (skinny, bad case of acne, way uncool clothes and such poor coordination that folks were induced to giggling merely upon viewing my gait, which was made worse by my asthmatic wheezing and gigantic backpack stuffed with textbooks) as a likely gang member or other potential criminal was flawed beyond repair. But hey, that’s life, and it is what it is …

Gerald on April 4, 2012 at 2:02 am

jimmypx and skunky:

That should have been “Many former indentured servants and went on to own African slaves, and of course did NOT free their African slaves as they themselves had been freed.” So, either they were a bunch of immoral scoundrel hypocrites or they did not see their own experience of indentured servitude as being comparable in any way to slavery. Which is it? I myself pick the latter.

Let set aside the propaganda for a second. Which “Indian/Native American” tribes have these DNA companies received blood samples from? How many samples did they get. History proves that there were millions of people in America before Columbus. There are countless documents and photos that proove who the original Americans are. Lets start with the 1828 Webster Dictionary. In it an American is defined as the original copper-colored races of people that were found upon European arrival. Pull out your copper penny everyone and the next you see an Aboriginal American that is labeled as being “Black” and African-American, do a copper penny test. Place the penny on their skin and then place it on the skin of what Hollywood has deemend as the classic image of a Native American. Then take a look at the picture of Chief James Lemuel Cisco of the Algonqin Confederacy. He is a “black” man wearing a feather headress and has LONG dreadlocks. http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~history/grafton/NipmucHistoricPhoto.jpg These professors and media people are placed to perpetuate the continuation of Birthright theft. How can the first peoples of the world not be the aboriginal indigenous in America. There has been countless archaeolocial, artifact, linguistic, anthropological research and plenty of photo journaling, artistic renderings and historical records from early explorrers and cartographers that show who the orignal are. To discredit this large body of evidence and elect unverified DNA sampling methods is ludacris. Don’t fall for the birthright theft game. It is the same game that has been played in throughout South America, Mexico, Phillipines, India, Taiwan, Australia, Arabia, Egypt, Algiers, Tunisa, The Middle East and in Hawaii. Let’s stop it with the Birthright Theft Propaganda Game.

SentAsha on June 28, 2012 at 10:28 pm

I agree with alot of things that @what wrote. And @SentAsha: good points made. In a lighthearted way Debbie is bashing Blacks. Kinda like sticking her tongue out and saying, Ha ha. I would like for Debbie to do a story on the number of whites who are claiming Indian blood. Today you have suddenly have far more Whites claiming Indian blood then you do Blacks. Fifty years ago, most US Whites would have cringed at the thought of having Indian blood. Today, most US whites claim it. Without any proof. If a DNA test were done on them, it would probibly turn up more Black blood then so Called Native American. A little secret. Many Quadroons and Octoroons passed themselves off as being Native American to avoid the stigma, laws and non-rights that Blacks had agaist them during that time.

henry lousi gates is a gate keeper and liar! the people calling themselves “african american” are the indians! much of the atlantic slave trade was fabriacted! in a book called Africans And Native Americans by Jack Forbes the author uses letters from the jesuits missionaires who wrote the “indians” were “negros”! the slavetrade was actually in the opposite direction we are taught. it was from the americas to spain where these “indians” would be reclassified as “negros”. and lets nots get into the oldest skulls found of the original american indians. the skulls are not mogoloid, european or even afrocoid. the skulls match the australian aboringies and pacific islanders found throughout even inch of the continetal americas and islands. black people have been lied too!

Skip Gated is way off on this. Granted the black cherokee thing gets annoying, but I know for a fact that there are Blacks with Native Ancestry espeacilly in the South. On Gates own show he tested Oprah and Chris Tucker who both showed Native ancestry. Also I was tested and have Native ancestry (my family is from SC). Snoop Dogg has 23% Native ancestry (his family is originaly from MS). Aslo don’t forget the Seminoles in FL who intermingled with Blacks. There are more of us then you think.

You are right Bo. Mr. Gates is way off on this one! I am one-sixteenth Native American and have the census papers to prove it! I am also from SC and Snoop Dogg’s Grandmother lives in the surrounding area as I do. So, I cannot speak for every Black person who claims being Native American; I can only speak for myself and WE DO EXIST!
