The fact that you clearly have very personal and lasting grudges against John Torres and Julie Myers is unmistakable. The question that I have is – why? Why the very personal, immature, yellow journalistic attacks? What is the point?
Do you believe that this type of “journalism” increases the number of people who read your site? Or do you just not care about reporting responsibly?
ICE as an agency has done more in the last year and a half under Julie Myers than in the previous 36 months. She inherited a fiscal mess that is now repaired. She inherited a culture of animosity borne out of wildly unpopular merger that is subsiding. She inherited an atmosphere of lethargy that has been replaced by energy. She inherited catch and release and a dormant worksite enforcement program – she ended one and revived the other.
She has done a masterful job. John Torres has done a masterful job – ending catch and release and taking over the criminal alien program that ICE’s OI didn’t want, and couldn’t manage. No matter – it is getting done, and with greater success than before.
I know for a fact that others have e-mailed you contradicting your information – and you have refused to correct yourself and villified them for disagreeing with you. No doubt you will either block this post or attempt to identify me. I don’t care. Your stories posted here are just those – fairy tales. Is his allegation true? Did Tommy Lasorda get paid or not?
SEE MY RESPONSE, ABOVE. THE PLAN WAS TO PAY LASORDA UNTIL I EXPOSED IT. THEN, THE CLAIM WAS THEY WERE PAYING HIM, AND HE WAS GOING TO DONATE THE MONEY TO CHARITY–A DISTINCTION WITHOUT A DIFFERENCE, SINCE IT’S STILL A GIANT WASTE OF TAXPAYER MONEY. Oh the insanity! First of all I’ll tell you what the problem with ICE is. One agency is trying to handle Immigration and Customs violations. They should be separate! The broken immigration system is a disease that spread through ICE like a bad case of herpes. Skeletor(Chertoff) and the ICE Princess have taken a once proud agency, US Customs Office of Investigations and turned it into an alien catch and release rent a cop agency. WHY ICE’s comments sent me throught he freakin’ roof! Obviously a paper pushing HQ type! “Ice has done more in the last year and a half under Julie Myers than in the previous 36 months.” She has done more to run morale into the ground! “She inherited a culture of animosity borne out of a wildly unpopular merger that is that is subsiding.” Whaaat!? Subsiding my a$$! Its worse than it was now that she is in charge. The agents that work customs cases are left with scraps. I don’t know who WHY ICE is but I’d like to have a face to face and set him/her straight! Debbie your comments are right on!

TDYINHELL is partially right. Immigration enforcement and customs enforcement should be seperate, but that’s the extent of it. As a legacy INS officer, what I have seen more than anything is an unwillingness by legacy customs agents to do ANYTHING to make the situation better. Believe me, I have no desire to work customs issues. When I was an inspector, I could not imagine doing anything less intelligent or dignified than checking people’s dirty underwear. Intercepting fraudulent documents and then conducting the entire case was far more satisfying. I don’t know where TDYINHELL is working, but given that DRO is removing and apprehending more aliens than ever, I would have to say that he is talking out of his a$$. If anyone thinks there is a sense of apathy or legarthy, then it certainly has not manifest itself in DRO, which by the grace of God has been almost untouched by legacy Customs pukes. Think about it, CUSTOMS and Border Protection has low morale as does Immigration and CUSTOMS Enforcement (at least according to TDYINHELL). What’s the common denominator? Oh yeah, CUSTOMS.
maybe Customs is the herpes that has spread.

For anyone to say that ICE has had some huge turn around because of Julie Myers is absolute B.S.
First of all, ICE was in such disarray and financial hardship that for us not to get better, was impossible. We had no where to go but up. It would be like inheriting the head coaching job at the Oakland Raiders next year. Can they really get any worse?
Obviously someone is drinking the Kool-Aid. This site is visited by many agents in my office, not just the disgruntled people. I guess I should have been born into a famous family with political connections, because apparently that gets you farther ahead in this country than hard work.
Ending catch and release, that one made me laugh.
As to DEPORTEM: Legacy Customs pukes? Which agency did Congress abolish? Oh thats right, the INS.

First off, Debbie, thank you. Your response to my post has, in a much more eloquent manner, proved my point. I welcome your attacks on me, an anonymous poster with a different point of view. There is nothing more I can write that will better expose your bias than your own words.
I don’t want you to name sources, but I want you to be aware that your sources are part of a network that is fabricating information. Here is the most telling sentence I read, and it was actually in your response to a post responding to my post: “There’s no evidence that Tommy Lasorda didn’t get paid (Schlussel, 2007).”
What evidence do you have that he did? Hearsay? Did you learn about hearsay in law school? You must have, yes? What you propogate, and what true journalists attempt to avoid, is circular reporting. The rumor mill. Congratulations – you are the official ICE rumor mill. Outside of hearsay, you have nothing.
One comment to the fellows who posted subsequent to me – let’s drop the USCS v. INS argument. Both agencies believed in their mission, both agencies had talented personnel. Yes, INS was ineffective because of its contradictory missions. Let’s move on – really. Customs investigations are getting shortchanged now because immigration enforcement is a priority. Priorities in the Federal government are cyclical. At some point, fossil smuggling, trademark fraud, and bull semen smuggling will once again be top priorities for the Federal government.
EITHER READING ENGLISH IS NO LONGER A REQUIREMENT FOR ICE AGENTS, OR THEY’VE ELIMINATED READING COMPREHENSION FROM THE TEA EXAM OR WHATEVER EXAM HAS REPLACED IT SINCE THE FORMATION OF ICE. I shouldn’t respound to WHY ICE, but I will. The reason I left the Border Patrol years ago was because I wanted something more challenging than just rounding up aliens. I could have become an INS agent. Most of those guys were Border Patrol flunkies and couldn’t find there a$$ with both hands. I opted for Customs Special Agent. Customs Agents were on the frontline of the drug war. They tackled money laundering, commercial fraud, intellectual property right violations, child pornography, arms and startegic technology violations to name a few. That certaintly beat the hell out of processing illegal aliens. WHY ICE is definitely an INS Agent or DRO or whatever. He/she obviously doesn’t understand customs law and never will. I just look forward to the day I get my beloved Customs OI back.
