Sean Vannity’s Anti-Fairness Doctrine: Hannity Told Ann Coulter She Can’t Appear on Larry King, Steve Malzberg

By Debbie Schlussel
As one of the many former friends of Sean Hannity, I know well how he treats his friends. Hint: It’s not much better than his enemies. As readers know, he’s repeatedly read word-for-word from this site and my New York Post columns–without credit to me–on stories I’ve broken, from Imam Husham Al-Husainy’s extremism and Hezbollah support to the Muslim foot baths at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He admitted he stole from me and promised to give me credit, but predictably never delivered. The guy is a rip-off artist and a hack with zero insight. Period. It took the mensch, Michael Reagan, to give me credit for my work on one of Sean Hannity’s shows.
But, then, there’s how he treats the people he’s still friends with, like his good friend, Ann Coulter. When Ann Coulter’s latest book, “Guilty,” came out, Hannity told Ann she had to cancel appearances on Steve Malzberg’s WOR radio show in New York and on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” with the implied or expressed threat that if she didn’t, she wouldn’t be on FOX News or his radio show anymore. Ann apparently notified Malzberg of this in writing in an e-mail. Listen to the audio from the Roger Hedgecock Show–move the cursor on the audio stream to the halfway mark.

Vannity “Fairness” Doctrine: Sean Censors Ann Coulter

I know for a fact that Sean Hannity has had Steve Malzberg blackballed at FOX for a while. He tried to do the same to me. For all his claim to want to further conservatism, he’s really not about that. He’s about Vannity only. . . to the point where he censors his own friends. Ann–whose book remains on the New York Times best seller list–could have even more books had she appeared on Larry King, who gets millions of viewers. But Sean Hannity told her she’s not allowed to appear. I can tell you that I know for a fact that Sean is doing this with other individuals.
For all of Vannity’s faux-outrage when NBC originally canceled and allegedly banned Ann Coulter from NBC, Sean Hannity did far worse to her.
Call it Sean Hannity’s Anti-Fairness Doctrine.
Yesterday, news stories told us how archeologists found remnants of the world’s largest snakes from the times of dinosaurs.
Sorry, but I think we know who the world’s largest snake is. And he lives in contemporary times.
Hey, Sean, you’re not a great American. Not even close.

I hope no one does him a favor when it comes time him to hawk his new ghost-written book.
For a guy who claims to champion conservative values, Sean Hannity doesn’t live by them. Ann Coulter has gotten to see who he really is and its not a pretty picture.
The conservative movement needs frauds like Hannity like it needs enemies.

Coulter should have called his bluff. She has appeared on MSNBC (Matthews show) and on The View (ABC).

I quit Hannity long ago. Great American? I think not, especially after this post. Keep telling it like it is. Schlusselize America!

Hannity’s a no good bum. Always will be.
The guy is a shrill, “it’s all about me”, megalomaniac!
And Debbie’s article shows just what a vindictive hypocrite he is!
Listening to his program is like fingernails dragged across a chalkboard. Not only does he read from his talking points, but he does so in a very pompous way AND he repeats himself NONSTOP!
In addition to all that crap, if you listen to his radio show, everything is all about him. If he reads from a news story, inevitably he ends up talking about himself. If a caller calls in to discuss something pertinent to their lives, it inevitably ends up about him and his past.
The guy is an empty suit who never has an orginal thought.
I stopped listening to his shrill, “it’s all about me” swill a long time ago.

And the most insidious aspect of all of this is that it weakens conservatives’ case against the Fairness Doctrine. Conservatives will be vulnerable to the argument “how can you talk about fairness? Look what Hannity did to all these people.” This shows, as you said, how Hannity puts his own short-signted interests ahead of those of conservatives as a whole; particularly worrisome at a time like this, when conservativism has virtually received a knockout punch & needs all the help & support it can get, even aside from the benefit conservatism gets as a whole from Coulter obtaining the maximum publicity she can get!

If Hannity is all we have to offer as conservatives for prime time on Fox News, we are in pretty sad shape. What a plagiarizing loser a__hole!
Then you have Mark Levin and Hannity constantly bloviating about each other being “great Americans.” Often they will lump in Rush as though they are the last 3 bastions of conservatism on radio–yet I don’t hear Rush talking them up.
Bloggers should note one more thing for the record–Debbie gives kudos to Ann Coulter, but doesn’t praise everything she does in lock step. The recent point she made of the contradiction in her new book about teen pregnancy and Sarah Palin’s coronation as conservative of the year–is a case in point.
I love Ann. I love DS even BETTER!!!

No matter what you say, I think the real tragedy is that we conservatives fight so much among ourselves. I’m not surprised, its human nature, but when we are confronted by such evil, it would really help to live by such things as the golden rule and the two great commandments.
[RA: HMMM . . . SOUNDS LIKE: “NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY, THE REAL TRAGEDY IS THAT YOU DIDN’T LET SEAN VANNITY GET AWAY WITH RIPPING YOU OFF AND CENSORING ANN COULTER. WHY CAN’T YOU IGNORE IT AND DEFEND “OUR” DIRTBAGS? AFTER ALL THEIR DIRTBAGISM IS A-OKAY, JUST NOT THE LIBERALS’.”
HERE’S A TIP: I AM JEWISH. WE DON’T BELIEVE IN THE GOLDEN RULE (WHICH IS A CHANGED VERSION OF WHAT WE DO BELIEVE IN–TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU’D WANT TO BE TREATED–AND I WOULD EXPECT IF I STOLE FROM HANNITY, THAT I’D BE CALLED OUT ON IT. AND AS FOR THE GOLDEN RULE, WHY AREN’T YOU PREACHING ABOUT IT TO SEAN VANNITY? AND DID YOU FORGET THIS PART OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS: THOU SHALT NOT STEAL? SORRY, BUT THE “ENDS JUSTIFIES THE MEANS” MENTALITY IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE LEFT, NOT THE RIGHT. REAL CONSERVATIVES BELIEVE IN PROPERTY RIGHTS, INCLUDING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. WAKE THE HECK UP. DS]

Hannity is no conservative. He is a Rockefeller Republican that supports the New World Order just like Ruppert Murdock.
Not once has he allowed any discussion of the fact that Barry Soetero aka Obama is not a natural born citizen on his radio show or the one hour Vanity TV love fest.
He could have helped to keep Obama from getting elected if he covered this before the election. Not one of the major news media have reported on the fact Obama is not a natural born citizen FoxNews included.
Any time someone calls in his radio show and tries to discuss this issue he hangs up on them with no explanation.
After Barry was elected he stated many times that he wished Obama well and success as the new president until Rush Limbaugh let him know during an interview that he was supporting the enemy and that Rush had no intention of supporting Obama or his communist policies for America.
Hannity has sold out to the CFR/Trilaterals IMHO and is now one of them.

Hannity is also a phony Catholic. He promotes himself as a good Catholic but then publicly states that he supports birth control. In other words, he is a cafeteria Catholic that feels he can pick and choose what he believes in, just like his “conservatism.”

Gabe on February 6, 2009 at 9:54 pm

I was also once a Hannity fan, but a couple of things woke me up, and since then I can’t stand him. First he came and spoke at my school and spent half of his speech bad-mouthing liberals and telling crude Clinton jokes, and then he lied about Huckabee all through the primaries while slobbering all over Giuliani and then Romney. Blech.
I really enjoy reading your blog, though. Keep up the good work. We need more good conservatives like you to represent our cause.
I recently started a new blog that will be highlighting the dangerous advances of the secular progressive movement (pro-gay ìrightsî, pro-abortion, anti-religious freedoms, etc).
Weíre looking to build a solid group of conservatives whoíll frequent our site regularly and contribute to some good discussions. The site gets updated daily with breaking news, so youíll want to check back often, or you can just sign up for our News Feed.
If youíll add us to your blogroll weíll gladly add you to ours. Our blog is called Religion and Morality.
Thanks!

Sounds like a very insecure man. He had the potential to do more and didn’t. He is far from a thinker like William F. Buckley and doesn’t have the wit like Rush. I do wonder how Huckabee got a show on Fox with Hannity there. The other day he had Whoopi Goldberg on the show. JOKE!!
As for the “fairness doctrine”, PBS is now airing alJazeera English on its Worldcocus show. Our taxpayers dollars at work. At 22:00 mark,

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Hannity consistently get higher ratings than Larry King?
[RZ: WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES THAT MAKE? DOES THAT MAKE IT OKAY FOR HIM TO STRONG-ARM AND CENSOR HIS FRIEND, ANN COULTER? DS]

richardzowie on February 8, 2009 at 8:34 am

I agree. Hannity long ago went for the ratings and liberal feelgood popularity rather than the truth.

I don’t normally comment on this site but this is one time I had to. I love your site Debbie and I check it all of the time just about every day after I pick up my e-mail I check to see what you got.
I still remember when Sean Vannity first came on the air here in New York. He talked, made noise, and sounded just like Rush Limbaugh down to his rustling his papers in front of himself. I hated him and I rarely if ever listen to him. I can’t stand the way that Curtis and Rush defend him and WABC Radio pushes him. YUCK!!!
Well, my rule of thumb is; if Debbie Schlussel says it is okay or not then that is a good enough opinion for me. So, I say let’s start a writing campaign on behalf of the Roger Hedgecock Show. I say that we should e-mail the President of WABC Radio here in New York City demanding that they kick Sean Vannity off the air and replace him with Roger Hedgecock. The e-mail address is webmaster@wabcradio.com. In the subject line just state that this is for Mitch, the Big Boss. With enough e-mails, it could be done.
Is there anyway we could e-mail this link to the Roger Hedgecock Show? Thanks!

It makes plenty of difference, Debbie. You make it sound like Coulter would have so much more success on Larry King, an overrated interviewer who has significantly less viewership than what Hannity does. How would going on a lesser-viewed program be better for her?
[R: ARE YOU JOKING?! THE SIZE OF HIS AUDIENCE MAKES IT OKAY FOR VANNITY TO BLACKMAIL AND STRONG-ARM HIS OWN FRIEND, ANN COULTER?! YOUR SENSE OF “ETHICS” IS HILARIOUS. OH, AND BY THE WAY, ONLY A PERSON WITH ZERO EXPERIENCE IN MARKETING WOULD SAY, DON’T PREACH TO THE OPPOSITION AT CNN, ONLY TO THE CHOIR AT FOX NEWS. LARRY KING GETS A FEW MILLION VIEWERS WHO DON’T WATCH VANNITY–ANN WOULD HAVE SOLD MORE BOOKS. BUT WHETHER OR NOT SHE WOULD HAVE, THAT DOESN’T MAKE HIS STRONG-ARM BLACKMAIL AND EXTORTION TACTICS ACCEPTABLE IN THE LEAST. WAKE THE HECK UP! AND GET A SET OF ETHICS AND SOME INTEGRITY. THAT YOU EXCUSE BLACKMAIL AND EXTORTION OF FRIENDS MAKES ME WONDER. DS]

WTF? All this back-biting is supposed to be from people with some concept of p-r-i-n-c-i-p-l-e-s??
This is a friggin gossip collumn. Who gives a rip who treats whom like what? We’re SUPPOSED to be culminating what constitutes US, and while you probably hyper-liberals are trashing someone’s character behind his back, OUR CONSTITUTION IS BEING ATTACKED WITH BOX-CUTTERS! And we all know that that’s just the lead-up.
The forefathers had sacred honor to pledge. I could give a rip if they pummled baby seals between sacrificing their lives and property for US.
But they were gentlemen. To backstab their character would probably get you shot in a duel.

Rush limbaugh really doesn’t praise or take up for him. He just doesn’t bash him. I am sure Rush sees Hannity as he is.
