When Your Fave “Mexican” Restaurant is Really a Muslim Illegal Alien Haven

By Debbie Schlussel

I’ve warned on this site many times before to know where you eat and shop:  who owns it and are they likely to donate the money you spent there to Islamic terrorism or “charity” front groups for that, extremist mosques and Muslim schools, etc.  And then there’s another reason not to eat or shop there:  the business might be harboring Muslim and/or other illegal aliens.  That’s the case with Salsalito, a San Antonio, Texas Mexican restaurant owned by Muslim, Hossein Bagheri.  Mr. Bagheri employed plenty of illegal aliens, but got just probation and a fine for his crime.  It’s interesting that his Mexican employees took the fall for what he clearly was orchestrating, to avoid paying full wages to American citizen employees. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents worked hard on this case, and the Obama federal prosecutors went soft on him.

islamiccrescent.jpg

The guilty plea of an employer who admitted hiring illegal workers — in the only such prosecution in San Antonio in at least the past decade — has resulted in a five-year probation sentence and a $750,000 fine.

In July, Hossein Bagheri, 50, entered guilty pleas in federal court on behalf of himself and his restaurant company, Salsalito Cantina Inc., to charges of hiring the workers.

Federal prosecutors did not oppose probation, so U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia granted it to Bagheri and his company at sentencing last week. The judge also fined Salsalito $500,000 and Bagheri $250,000.

Bagheri’s lawyer, Jimmy Parks Jr., argued for the fines to be cut at least in half, saying they might hurt his client’s ability to keep the popular eateries open.

Huh? Since when is continued money-making by a criminal who knowingly harbors illegal aliens the chief concern in sentencing the crook?  In fact, those are exactly the businesses that should be seized and shut down . . . if we had the guts and meant business.  But we don’t.   And he is Muslim, so he gets a different kind of justice than everyone else.

Bagheri is the owner of Salsalito, which has two Mexican restaurant locations in San Antonio that were raided by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in May 2009. The agency deported 20 workers.

Bagheri admitted that he was aware that a number of employees were working without legal authorization, according to his plea deal.

The restaurant wasn’t ordered to shut its doors as part of the deal.

Two kitchen managers, Angel Sotelo, 44, and Carlos Cossio Mendoza, whose age was unavailable, pleaded guilty to recruiting illegal workers and cooperated with agents, leading to Bagheri’s guilty plea.

General manager Humberto Gonzalez, 40, and human resources manager Sylvia Luna, 33, also pleaded guilty. Sotelo, Gonzalez and Luna are scheduled for sentencing March 1.

Cossio was sentenced in November 2010 to the nearly two months he’d already spent in jail.

Uh-huh. The Latinos get jailtime. But the Muslim boss who made ’em do it gets probation. Ain’t that nice!

Only in America.

Employee:

Senor, what do you want me to do with dese suicide vests?

Muslim Employer:

Oh, I bought you those to keep warm. Now put them on before I report you to the INS myself. Oh, and don’t forget to make that delivery to that U.S. Air Force base. And where the vests. And where the vests.

That should be “..and wear the vests.”

I think of DS’ question almost everyday when I am out and about. We should work on a checklist so people who come here can figure out the answer (“Do you know if the places you eat or shop at are funding Islamic Jihad”?) in like 3 easy steps or something. Does anyone have any idea how we can find out?

I think that we should work harder on it because who would have thought a Mexican restaurant that sounds so Mexican-y is owned by a Mooooooslim?

I thought a convenience store near me was owned by Moooooslims (and I was cautious) and I found out the owner is from Nepal. My sleuthing skills need some help in this realm.

My gym is in a very congested and eclectic college community and there is an Afghanistan restaurant I always pass by. It looks lovely and seems hi-scale (kinda ironic, I know….) but you know I am NOT spending money there ’til I know for sure. (Plus who can think Afghanistani cuisine is very good….)

http://www.arianarestaurantboston.com/

Up the road (more near the college) there are many Turkish owned stores. One convenience store was so filthy (when I finally peeked in this month) I KNOW I will never go to that dirty store EVER.

So yes, DS’ question is always in my head these days and I should do more to have that question in my head answered!

Skunky on February 21, 2012 at 5:17 pm

Skunky, if a food store or restaurant is so filthy, report them to the health department. Most health departments either require the establishment to clean the place up, or at least pay a hefty bribe. If that doesn’t work, contact the local television news crews.

Jonathan E. Grant on February 21, 2012 at 6:13 pm

BRIBES??? Government workers never accept bribes!

I am SADDEN to see this about Hossein I know from his business, he was always working and trying to run a business I never knew he did this maybe, the he was tricked who know the trut. I saw him as he was trying to live the american dream, he reached out and fed me when I didn have any food to eat, and HE told me to trust in god, At least he is wrong he will pay his time. God help him see the right way in the life.

Sarah lynn on February 21, 2012 at 6:55 pm

What are you babbling about Sarah Lynn?

“The guilty plea of an employer who admitted hiring illegal workers — in the only such prosecution in San Antonio in at least the past decade — has resulted in a five-year probation sentence and a $750,000 fine.In July, Hossein Bagheri, 50, entered guilty pleas in federal court on behalf of himself and his restaurant company, Salsalito Cantina Inc., to charges of hiring the workers.”

Hossein Bagheri pleaded guilty to hiring illegal aliens. He has admitted to knowing that he broke the law. Employers who employ illegal aliens do so in order to pay much lower wages than they would have to legal residents ot citizens
Hossein Bagheri was and is an oppressor of the poor and vulnerable. Are you on the side of the oppressor Sarah Lynn? Bagheri was practically given a kiss, since did not have to to go jail or lose his businesses. Instead, Bagheri gets to walk away with mere fines and five years probation for his offenses. With someone else, the businesses would have been forfeited as part of any settlement and closed.

I agree with Skunky, ever since I started reading DS it has made me more conciensous,Salsalitos to my credit is one of those small placez that not many people pay attention to,bc it s a cantina and so people looking for a bite to eat don t go there as a first or second choice,I know the place I ve driven past it,I just never even thought of going in,well live and learn. damn moooooooslems.

Skunky,I lime your comment and that word mexican-y….it made me laugb bc I never heard it before, you are so right in your point, but Salsalito sounds more mediterranian than mexican.

Juan on February 21, 2012 at 8:10 pm

LOL Juan. I’m half Mexican so it sounds so very Mexican to me.
We have so many Mexican places here on the East Coast.

It also reminds me of this 70’s/80’s song by a Danish group…which is like
a love-song to California (go figure).

JG, if I peek into that store again I will call the Boston Health Dept.
Strangely enough, right across the street is a chinese food emporium
I have been meaning to call the HD on. Things can get gritty (grotty)
in Boston!!!

Sitting in a restaurant I overheard a table of teen agers. They were sounding grown and intelligent when I heard one of the girls pipe up about how much she liked a certain mideast dish at a certain restaurant. She also made the point that she didn’t care about the whole 9/11 thing, it was good and she wasn’t going to not eat it. Don’t you love the next generation of upper middle class Americans. I bet the saucilitos will probably stay in business and even do better now owing to the publicity.

How is this possible?

Debbie, H. and I eagerly await your arrival. It will be nice to have a girl around to light the Shabbat candles, make us gefilte fish and perform other Shabbat mitzvahs after H. goes to sleep. I have recently eaten out at two different non-chain Asian (Thai/Chinese) restaurants as Jewish people apparently still haven’t had enough of that. A few things about these places: 1) The bills are written up in 50 different parts of chicken scratch. Without looking at the original menu you can never really tell what you paid for, but it’s definitely too much. 2) When turning in my vegetarian spring roll appetizer plates at both places the waitress tried to make me reclaim my used fork and seemed put out when I declined and instead asked for new silverware. 3) I have to wonder if they reuse rice but can’t say for sure. 4) They are only nice for two seconds at the end when they see a 20% tip.

Previously I suggested you might be a crazy Arab. I apologize for that. Your just crazy.

What a….. what does an used fork and re used rice yadda yadda have to do with the discussion? you give me a head ache….or you may have a mega mind.

Back in the 80s and 90s it was common practice to hire illegals mostly hispanics to do restaurant work,we knew that it was going on and for the most part it was tit for tat,it doesn t change the facts, but back then we didn t have the mooooslems mixing up with the hispanics, hispanics weren t the militant demanding mob that they are today and we were still years away from having terrorists on our homeland trying to kill us,even politicians my papi says of how sure he was both Dems and Repubs loved america, some were misguided, but most loved America,in that way my papi says politicians have betrayed us,I sort of agree….anyway I just wanted to say Salsalitos has no excuse to do what they did, back in the day we didn t have all this technology at our fingertips to tell us who is and isn t legal.

Juan on February 22, 2012 at 12:34 am

Skunky, are you sure that the owner of the restaurant you talked about is either really a Muslim, or really from Nepal? Muslims are just 2% of Nepal’s population, although since Maoists seized power there, jihadis from abroad have made it their base to try infiltrating India.

My guess – if he’s really Nepali, he’s probably either Hindu/Buddhist, and if he’s really Muslim, he’s probably one from elsewhere in the subcontinent – India (where the Muslim population is 150m out of 1.1b) or Pakistan/Bangladesh.

Anyway, I avoid restautants featuring cuisine from Muslim countries, as well as any Muslim owned restaurants. There was one Nepali restaurant in Berkeley called Everest (named after the mountain) which I liked – dunno whether it’s still around. But of Asian foods, Thai and Nepali are my favorites.

Infidel on February 22, 2012 at 2:33 am

Infidel, you ask a very good question. The Convenience Store does look like mostly Mooooslim owned, He could be Hindu or Buddhist but really doesn’t look like it. Looks like I have to look deeper into it. To find out the proprietor’s name do I call the Town Hall? The language sounds more like a Mooooslim speaking language than the Nepalese the guy told me he speaks, but I don’t think I ever heard Nepalese except in “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.

LOL, Juan, that is A1! He is obsessed with DS and writes posts like that all the time. They must really crack him up but have become mundane to most of us here. I am still trying to figure out if “H” is a child, dog or platypus (or other Marsupial). The mystery continues….

Skunky on February 22, 2012 at 9:57 am

I would like to know the source of Bagheri’s funds to originally open these restaurants and who also gives him loans to run his businesses. Something interesting could come out of an investigation into his finances.

Also, I would like to know his status in the U.S. From what I read, and this could be wrong, he is from Iran. If he did come from Iran, I say revoke whatever status he has in the U.S. and deport his ass back to Iran, just like they did with the other illegal trespassers that were working for him.

My Chaldean friend’s restaurant employs a few muslims, some I have known for years. None have openly supported their fanatic co-religionists while one Chaldean I unfortunately met who owns a wholesale house is openly anti-semitic.
This is not an absolution of Muslims. In the end there will a reckoning in blood if you looked at their hate filled Quran. Thankfully, none of them take the time to practice with the occasional exception of Ramadan that seems to be more out of habit than faith(never heard even a bismallah, a Syrian we now call Jimmy)
One waitress hovever, is still suspect and a bitch on wheels. My conclusion is that a few are glad to be here rather than there and are grateful. Unfortunately there is no one guaranteed method to seperate the wheat from the chaff as our fickle government is too forgiving towards criminals in general, especially if religion or race is involved.
For a hoot if you are from the Detroit area you a must see is TV Series “Weeds” season 6 disc three(not very pc).Check your local library.

Ron Wolf on February 22, 2012 at 11:35 am

apologize for computer glitch.Insert Correction; (never heard a bismallah or inhallah from them). “Jihad” a Syrian waiter I have known for years is now referred to as Jimmy”

I believe everyone deserves a second chance. 750,000 is alot of money. I would much rather chill in a jail cell than cough up that kind of cash. Yeah, it was not a good thing for the owner to hire illegals, however everyone makes mistakes. So what if he was a Muslim. A persons religions should have nothing to do with anything you are writing about you selfish, ignorant, hick. Human nature is to be greedy, and Bagheri was definately guilty of that. I’m not sure if the penalty was sufficient, however we are a country built on second and even third chance opportunities. Please don’t mention religion again.

Mr. Bean on February 23, 2012 at 11:36 am

Bean, you have a bean for a brain.

Your key sentence is “So what if he is a Muslim”? It shows you don’t know anything and you are in day-care in contrast to the learned readers here.

If you don’t care about Mooooooooslims, you’re not paying attention to all the hell they are raising and the FOURTEEN COUNTRIES presently in conflict with them!!!

Wake up, grow up and enroll in grammar school!

Skunky on February 23, 2012 at 7:59 pm

Falafel fajitas for everyone! The illegals i.c.e. rounded up probably got released O/R for their “hearings” and are now working at IHOP.

What a f**king joke!
