Arabs can be charming and polite. They can also be sadistic and brutal.

And people who travel there, not as tourists but as a long term workers, can never quite know what to expect.

Keep in mind the Arabs treat their own people as badly as they do foreigners. They are not like Europeans and Americans and will never be.

Let this be a lesson to all Nepalese people. The ONLY thing worth joining is the British army, to become a Gurkha. For the rest of those who want to make a better living for themselves, but who aren’t Gurkhas or men, try Europe or the US for such employment.

50 bonus points for anyone who can tell me what kingdom & band of warriors actually conquered Afghanistan a long time ago.

SR: The anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, anti-DS comments were apparently left by Jack Parrish, a nutjob who works for IMI Publishing, a PR agency in London with offices in New York. Jack Parrish is one of these mentally ill nutjobs who is Jewish (In Name Only) and was born in Israel. He’s been sending me crazy anti-Semitic e-mails all day, yesterday, on company e-mail. Now, his boss, Michael Lodge is defending him, including his comments calling Israel a perpetrator of “war crimes,” and threatening me with lawsuits. Dunno whether Con Chef (NB) had that answer in mind, but it seems correct – Genghiz Khan & his Mongols were the only non-Muslims who conquered Afghanistan after that country was conquered by Muslims. Wasn’t the Gorkhas, if that’s what he’s thinking.

It’s sad that Ms Aacharya chose to go to Lebanon – if she wanted to be a maid, she could have found something even in next door India. I sympathize w/ Nepal – previously, they had a monarchy that was pretty apathetic to the conditions of the population, and now, they have a Maoist regime.

I recall one time during the Gulf War when some Nepali cooks were murdered by jihadis. When this news reached Nepal, an irate mob in Kathmandu attacked the city’s only mosque and ransacked it. Made a pretty simple reaction – Muslims killed our guys, here’s back @ ’em!

Try though the Hezbos might to get rid of all the Christians in Lebanon, don’t forget that those Christians do have their own militias. That country is sliding back into the abyss of civil war. Sad for me, because as a burnt out ex chef & current foodie, I kinda wanted to go Beirut to eat my way through the town. Hell, nowadays, I’d probably end up like CIA station chief Bill Buckley did. As it stands now, it looks like Israel is the only quasi safe place in the region where I can indulge my foodie fantasies in relative safety.

After the Taif ‘accord’ and the Israeli abandonment of the South Lebanon Army, every militia in Lebanon – except Hizbullah – has been disarmed.

The main Lebanese militias were Samir Gaegae’s Lebanese Forces (he’s the successor to Bashir Gemayel), Michel Aoun’s pro-Syrian militia (which is allied to Hizbullah), the Phalangist Party (which does God knows what) and a few others. Essentially, if a census was taken of Lebanon today, the country would look like pre-partition Sudan.

As far as the Copts, Maronites, Melkites and Chaldeans go, countries like Egypt, Lebanon and Iraq are already lost, and Syria will be that way as well.

On another note, Occam’s Tool was correct as well, but pre-Muslim Afghanistan was conquered by lots of foreign armies – Indian, Persian, Macedonian amongst others. But after the Muslim conquest in the 10th century, Afghanistan was only once conquered by a non-Muslim army – the Mongols. Speaking of which, the Mongols of that time were more tolerant tnan Muslims of today, which is why countries like Afghanistan, Iran remained Muslim. Had Mongols been as fanatical as Muslims about promoting Shamanism, that would have been the religion today not only in Mongolia, but also in the whole of Central Asia, as well as Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and Iraq.

1. it has nothing to to do with religion
in the middle east there are almost no laws to protect domestic workers rights. the result is that the way the families behave with them, whether christian or muslim, is dependent on their own choices or ethics. it can range to treating them as part of the family, treating them respectfully as an employee, or treating them as slaves or worse than slaves as happened the case with Lila.

2. it has nothing to do with culture, rather the dark side of human nature when there are no laws to keep them in check.
there are many expatriates from the US, Australia and the UK(I chose these three examples due to cases I know) that since there are no laws here as there are back home, it also becomes up to them on how they choose to treat their maids or whatever. it is a matter of choice, on how they behave with them, whether they beat them or not, whether they respect their work hours or not etc..

I really think that while mistreating women is ingrained in the Arab culture, this stuff is going on today right here in the USA !! Poor girls from Mexico promised work, smuggled over the border and made sex slaves.

What’s sad is that the governments know all about this and just don’t care. Some people are making alot of money off this, so people are bribed and look the other way. I will never understand how someone could treat a fellow human being like this. Their souls should should be cast into Hell & destroyed.
