Chabad Lubavitch Jewish Center Taken By Islamic Terrorists in Mumbai; Jews Targeted, Taken Hostage

By Debbie Schlussel
In addition to taking Americans and Britons hostage and targeting them for death in today’s terrorist attacks in India, Islamic terrorists have also overtaken the Chabad Lubavitch center in India and taken an Israeli Jewish family hostage. I have a special place in my heart for Chabad Lubavitch because this group has always been kind to me and made it easier for me to practice Jewish observances. And they do great things–feeding and housing gentile homeless and AIDS patients, etc.

UPDATE (10:45PM): A live CNN reports that the Chabad House had been taken over by the terrorists, and that Indian forces were attempting to storm the facility.

That Was Then . . .

This Is Now . . .

The situation is grim late Wednesday in Mumbai (Bombay) India where reports of more than 80 dead and 250 wounded are seeping out of the beleaguered city. Of great concern is the silence from Chabad’s representatives to Mumbai, Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg. No one from the Chabad center has been heard from since the attacks.
The dead and wounded are victims of a sophisticated plot in which seven locations throughout the city were attacked by terrorists. Several of the city’s most exclusive hotels, a restaurant, train station, and hotel were bombed. The attacks come as the country is consumed by controversial elections.
The city, which is India’s financial capital, plays host to many foreigners and their embassies are assisting in the search and rescue efforts.
Lubavitch personnel in Bangkok, Israel and New York are working closely with the Israeli Foreign Ministry and the U.S. government to help establish contact with the Holtzbergs and other missing persons in the Chabad House area.
Mumbai’s Chabad House, situated near the sites of destruction, is a popular stop for Israeli tourists. The Holtzbergs offer a host of programs, including providing kosher food, to locals and visitors alike.

I am praying for these people and also all of my innocent fellow Americans targeted by today’s attacks. And I ask that you do, too.

A plot to bomb Penn Station
, this brutal set of attacks across India, and dozens of attacks a week around the world for the last decade or more. All perpetrated by the so-called “Religion of Peace”.
When will we learn that Islam is not the religion of peace and is not to be treated with kid gloves, but with iron fists?

Chabad-Lubavitch is close to my heart since they helped to put my late father to rest a few years ago. Rabbi Yitzchak Newman was a salt of the earth guy, very helpful and compassionate. We all pray for the safety of Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg. The Muslims are the new Nazis of our day. After all this, people still don’t get their savage nature. May G-d look after those in danger in Mumbai and see their safe return, alive and well, to the House Of Israel.

Maybe this is part of the new “peace dividend” of the upcoming Barack Hussein Obama presidency. There have been threats against the New York Subway system. These jihadists are feeling their oats and becoming more optimistic.

I can’t really say the same at this point. They help everyone except lonely Jewish men and don’t really care much for Jewish fathers and that is wrong. They censor on their blog any comments about feminism and the fact that neither of my grandfathers were educated and had it easy but Chabad makes it out that the men were all educated and had it easy while the women had it hard and to right a mild comment that my grandfathers were not educated and didn’t have it easy and have that censored I find that very wrong. I get an email for mothers day not fathers day. I get an email once for women that are alone so I wrote back to them what about men that are alone. Men are the minority in the religious world yet Chabad like other groups continue to think women are the oppressed and I don’t know what to say about that. THey seem warm in some ways but it doesn’t seem they are being helpful here.
[A: THIS COMMENT SICKENS ME BECAUSE IT IS A COMPLETE LIE. CHABAD, UNLIKE NO OTHER ORGANIZATION, IS COMMITTED TO TRADITIONAL JEWISH FAMILY ROLES, ESPECIALLY FOR MEN. I WOULD NORMALLY REMOVE THIS COMMENT AS DEFAMATION OF CHABAD, BUT SINCE YOU WERE ANSWERED WELL BY “ANONYMOUS TWIT,” I WILL LEAVE IT UP, SO PEOPLE WILL KNOW TO WHAT NONSENSE HE WAS RESPONDING. AGAIN, YOUR COMMENT IS UTTER BUNK. DS]

I too have had many pleasant experiences with Chabad. Anyone who has been to a Chabad house has experienced a warmth that is not felt elsewhere.
Besides feeling outrage (but not surprise, anyone who is surprised has an IQ that is lower than the IQ of a dead turtle) I do have a sense of hope that this time the tide may turn.
I am hearing on the news that these terrorists may have been assisted by Pakistani intelligence (We know Pakistani intelligence has been in bed with the Taliban).
If so, Pakistan is about to become the world’s largest parking lot courtesy of the Indian military. Let us all hope that Bush regains his courage in has last days and becomes inspired to follow India’s lead.
As for the comments by adam6275, this tragedy is not an excuse for you to spread your vile lies about such a tremendous organization.

Deb,
You need to visit my Mother’s little home town of Whitwell TN. The world thinks us southerners are redneck and racist but Whitwell proves them wrong
A few years ago the kids there ( a couple of my cousins where a part) did The Paperclip Project. They collected paperclips for all of the victims of the Holocaust
There is a Memorial there of a real Rail Car from the Holocaust days and they have placed 11 million paperclips inside. It is breath taking!
There was a documentary done about it but it never received much fanfare. I have a silver necklace that is a tiny paperclip with the Star of David that I wear! I have a visitors brochure from the Memorial if you would like it, I will be glad to send it to you!

i_am_me: Of course its pakistan’s official ISI or its funded Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), SIMI, or a dozen other groups which America has had difficulty banning for several years only because they were not active on American soil.
The Indian military doesn’t have a problem sending the paki mofos into oblivion. Many are itching to do so, if only the ball-less idiots we’ve been electing so far haven’t been putting the brave Indian soldiers on a leash so they can garner the Indian moslem votes.
I only wish India behaved a little like Israel when they bombed the hell out of Lebanon when their soldiers were kidnapped (and killed).
adam6275: Screw you! You probably belong to the self-hating Dovid Weiss’s group. An innocent Jewish Rabbi has been kidnapped by moslem terrorists and this is pretty much reminiscent of what happened at the Munich olympics. (I pray that the Rabbi and others are still alive). But all you care is for some stupid personal grievances (which is most likely a pack of lies).

Yes, it was pakistanis behind this – with support from their local Indian moslem bootlicker jihadi traitors – according to the latest reports on Indian TV news channels. You don’t need to have a positive IQ to figure this out anyway.

So far, *no* Indian muslim imam/priest has said a word. None of the “human rights” dogs has come out and said a thing. But they all rally against release and safe return of Indian/paki muslim terrorists who are caught alive and put on trial.
And these mofos talk about islamophobia by the kaffirs…

Where in my comments did I say that Chabad deserves this. Debbie mentioned she had postive experiences with them and my feelings are a little more mixed. But you’re behavior is typical of many who’se hatred to Jewish men is such that any man that has concerns is called horrible names.
You really are the lowest of the low and seem like a verbal terrorist. If you are truly a so called RELIGIOUS JEW then I have to say for all the problems in Israel a nonreligious jew who has a little more compassion for his fellow Jew and doesn’t think he is holier then thou is far better then some schmuck like you that would equate raising some concerns when someone mentioned their good experience with a certain group to being Neturi Karta. Rabbi’s that attack Jewish fathers and Jewish men to benefit themselves as a male Rabbi are immoral and that doesn’t in any way excuse what these islamic terrorist are doing but when we are immoral G- d hides his/her face. According to you anonymous the G-d of Israel is Rabbi Dov Weiss because G-d let this happen and why would G-d allow this to happen. WHy aren’t you angry at your G-d for this and instead are angry at me.

1. For the Conductor, a psalm by David. 2. May the Lord answer you on the day of distress; may the Name of the God of Jacob fortify you. 3. May He send your help from the Sanctuary, and support you from Zion. 4. May He remember all your offerings, and always accept favorably your sacrifices. 5. May He grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill your every counsel. 6. We will rejoice in your deliverance, and raise our banners in the name of our God; may the Lord fulfill all your wishes. 7. Now I know that the Lord has delivered His anointed one, answering him from His holy heavens with the mighty saving power of His right hand. 8. Some [rely] upon chariots and some upon horses, but we [rely upon and] invoke the Name of the Lord our God. 9. They bend and fall, but we rise and stand firm. 10. Lord, deliver us; may the King answer us on the day we call. Amen
Chabad has been so welcoming and kind to our family of mostly Reform Jews. Chabad does not label you as a certain kind of Jew, just a Jew.
Kind people out to serve….the terrorist looks rabid in the eyes.

Debbie was right to be sickened. Islam is one of the threats the West faces. The other is paganism, that never really died out and is now putting faith in G-d and in traditional values in its cross-hairs. We’re besieged by the barbarians from without and the barbarians from within. No society that destroyed the family and denied G-d has ever endured. Not one.

I should also mention that the Natick, Mass Chabad is under the dynamic leadership of Rabbi Levi Fogelman and his wife, Hinni (sp).
Chabad leader Rabbi Fogelman also laid my father to rest five years ago. His beautiful wife is part of the Mayflower descendants of the Chabads.
Rabbi Fogelman has reinvigorated Orthodox life in Metro West Mass and even managed to build a mikvah next to his Jewish center.

Commandos airdropped, go for final push at Nariman
NDTV Correspondent (NDTV.com)
Friday, November 28, 2008, (Mumbai)
There’s been a third explosion inside the Nariman House in Colaba, breaking the eerie silence for the third time in the last three hours.
The building is still in darkness as the Army closes in. Snipers have taken position at Nariman House. About 100 commandos are closing in. Helicopters are circling above the building.
It’s over 34 hours since Mumbai was taken over by terror. And there’s still no end to the nightmare.
Operations are still on at Nariman House, the Taj Hotel and Oberoi Trident to flush out the remaining terrorists. There is report of one injured militant inside the Taj hotel.
Two to three terrorists are still in Nariman House but there are no more hostages inside.
At the Oberoi Trident, there are believed to be one or two terrorists inside but it’s not clear if there are any hostages or how many people may still trapped in the hotel.
According to NSG Director General: “One injured terrorist is still inside Taj hotel. The stage seems to be set for a final operation there and the media has been asked to refrain from doing any live broadcasts from outside the hotel.”
At least 125 have been killed in the encounter, including 14 policemen and six foreigners; 327 have been injured.
———————–
Note: there was an earlier report in timesofindia.com:
The terrorists knew who they were targeting. Nariman House in Colaba is the Mumbai headquarters of the ultra-orthodox Chabad-Lubavitch movement of
Hasidic Jews. Assuming the attackers were Islamic terrorists, Israelis were a deliberate target.
Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka have been held hostages. The Jerusalem Post said the terrorists released the rabbi’s young son and his nanny. It said the rabbi and his wife were unconscious.
Three-four terrorists are said to be in the house. Nariman House was renamed Chabad House after the group bought it two years ago.

If this doesn’t get people’s attention and end up getting some results (against the terrorists and their supporters) I don’t know what will. The terrorists went into Mumbai/Bombay and kicked all these people in the ass: India, a nation that spans an entire continent, a VERY large population, a growing economy and has nuclear weapons. The US, the worlds #1 superpower, who’s military is said to spend more in a year repairing corrosion damage on it’s equipment than the nation of Canada spends on its ENTIRE military. The British, who’s navy can still deliver a can of whoop ass just about anywhere in the world, and also has nuclear weapons. Israel, who is rumored to have nukes, and has to be getting fed up with this crap any time soon, and Jews worldwide.
If all the force that all these nations and peoples can bring to bear is not used to squash the terrorists like bugs, something is VERY wrong.

rtaylor174 on November 27, 2008 at 10:20 pm

Indian special forces launched an assault on the building. They’re not going to take prisoners. Therein is a lesson for Israel: surrendering to terrorists does not lead to peace; just the opposite. I admire the Indians for doing what Israel used to do. I wonder where that country that once stood up to evil went.

NormanF on November 27, 2008 at 11:06 pm

I’ve been watching this action on TV. Yesterday, all the hostages were evacuated from the Chabad/Nariman House, but operations started only this morning (local time) as commandos were waiting for hostages in the 2 hotels to be evacuated as well, so that they couldn’t be used as bargaining chips vis a vis operations.
Right now, almost all the hostages everywhere (except the dead) have been freed, and operations to flush out the jihadis are on.
