Reporter Who Was Fired For Obama T-Shirt Was Always in the Tank for Obama

By Debbie Schlussel
I congratulate Detroit’s all-news radio station WWJ-AM for firing reporter Karen Dinkins for wearing an Obama T-shirt while covering an Obama rally for the station. I’m frankly surprised the station had the guts to do the right thing in the face of completely improper behavior by a supposedly impartial reporter. She is Exhibit A for legitimate conservative complaints that the mainstream media is biased and controlled by liberals with an agenda.
But I am more than a passing observer.
I know Karen, as she attends many of the Detroit movie critic screenings which I also attend. She’s very nice, a very good reporter, and I like her personally.
However, she’s been very much in the tank for Barack Obama for a long time, and it’s not just limited to a T-shirt. Recently, movie star Dennis Quaid was in town to promote his racially-charged movie, “The Express.” I was not among those invited to do interviews with him, but she was. At a recent screening, I asked her what he had to say. Her first answer was, “Oh, he’s really excited about Barack Obama. I asked him what he thinks about him, and he said he thinks Barack Obama adds a new, exciting energy to the race. He likes h im a lot.”

Karen Dinkins: Good Reporter, But Keep the Politics Away

It’s true that Dennis Quaid–who in March, noted he was torn between McCain and Obama–is now entirely in the tank for Obama and appeared at a celebrity fundraiser for the Democratic nominee, a few days ago. But what does this have to do with reviewing a movie or reporting on it? It’s true that “The Express,” which I haven’t yet seen, is about racial integration of a college football team decades ago, but I still think it shows a reporter’s bias if she’s reporting on a movie and uses the interview with the star as a reason to promote a certain Presidential candidate.
Conservative reporters would never get hired in the first place. And if they did, we’d never know they were conservative reporters because they’d never get away with any of this . . . well before the T-shirt.
And Karen’s politics are definitely to the left–fine, if she keeps them out of her reporting. After we watched “Traitor,” the moral equivalency Don Cheadle movie about a Black man who is a Muslim undercover counterterrorist operative, I expressed disappointment that an FBI agent character says that Christians are terrorists just like Muslims because of the Klan. I said the Klan has been marginalized and is nothing like Islamic terrorism, which enjoys significant support throughout mainstream Islam. She expressed strong disagreement, saying the biggest problem facing America was not Islamic terrorism but the Klan.
So, I’m not surprised, with that point of view, that Karen Dinkins wore an Obama T-shirt while covering an Obama rally. To her, it’s simply no big deal because this is the type of thing her CBS-owned station has allowed for a long time. And that’s the problem.
Again, I like Karen, and she’s a good reporter. I feel bad for her that in this very tough Michigan economy she is out of a job, and I wish her success in getting another one soon, because she is such a nice person. But she should know better. She has a right to her far-left politics, but not while pretending to be an impartial observer delivering the news.
She will probably be hired again soon in the Detroit market, and hopefully will have learned her lesson about mixing partisan politics with delivering news. Oil and water go together better.

I’m not in the Detroit market and will NEVER be in the Detroit market but I see nothing to like about Dinkins. I tune “journalists” like Dinkins out. Has she ever written anything of value? I doubt it. What is there to like, Debbie?

On one hand, I’m pleased she wore the Obama shirt, showcasing her bias. I hate it when reporters, who are blatantly biased, deny it to your face.
If I ever find a genie in a bottle, I’ll wish for all political activist to tells us their true intentions and desires.

It sounds like Karen Dinkins with now being out of work truly fits the Obama voter profile.
Come on! After 13 years as a news reporter for WWJ, a CBS subsidiary, she can’t figure out that CBS, NBC, MSNBC and ABC have been called to the mats for tanking on Obama. They’ve all lost credibility with the American public just look at their miserable ratings.
She is no good reporter. She is just another democrat who happens to be black and brought up in the victimhood mentality of democrats that justifies his or her actions regardless of accountability to further their agenda goals.
Any news agency in Michigan would be out of their mind to hire Dinkins. With what I’ve read here by Debbie, all that I see is that Dinkins is an irresponsible agenda driven leftists, which oh by the why, is likable. Karen Dinkins is not a kid and not a rookie in the news biz; she played with fire and got burnt.
How goes that saying that I’ve read on here numerous times by Debbie? Oh, yah that’s right, ‘Too bad, so sad’ and ‘buh-bye’ to Karen Dinkins.
“I feel bad for her that in this very tough Michigan economy she is out of a job…” Come on Debbie you cannot be serious.
If Karen Dinkins truly respected her former employer, her news career and the Granholm/Dillon lead Michigan 2-year worst unemployment rate in the nation, then she’d thought twice about wearing her beloved Obama shirt while covering his campaign Sunday at the Detroit Public Library. Oh, I forgot she’s ‘nice’.
Sounds like someone else is a little in the tank too.
[WD: UM, I WAS AGAINST OBAMA BEFORE ANYONE. AND I CRITICIZED WHAT SHE DID. WHICH PART OF THE FIRST SENTENCE OF THIS ENTRY DID YOU FAIL TO READ, IN WHICH I CONGRATULATED THEM FOR FIRING HER AND SAID THEY DID THE RIGHT THING?
BUT SHE IS A NICE PERSON AND I FEEL FOR ANYONE I KNOW AND LIKE WHO GETS FIRED, SINCE IN MICHIGAN, THAT MEANS YOU MIGHT SOON BE HOMELESS. SHE DEFINITELY DESERVED TO GET FIRED AND TO BE TAUGHT A LESSON.
BUT CALLING ME “IN THE TANK”? HELLO . . . ? DOUBLE HELLO . . .? TRIPLE HELLO . . .? DO YOU ACTUALLY READ THIS SITE? LOOKS LIKE YOU DESPERATELY NEED TO UP YOUR EYEGLASS PRESCRIPTION. DS]

Debbie, t-shirts or not, almost every Black reporter or commentator I see on TV speaks as if they had been hypnotized by BHO himself. There is hardly even any pretense of objectivity. If they were evaluated by objective criteria, they would all be fired. And KD may be tons of fun, but she appears to be one more BHO campaigner impersonating a reporter.

Tired of blacks that think the clan is a serious threat any more. Espcially as much as islam? WTF? Just an excuse to be racist for their own advantages. Have to elect the black guy to safe guard the homies? Please. Her kind of pathetic victim mentality is exactly what keeps the blacks down that are down and out. Keep worrying about the clan, you can see what they’ve done to keep the islamic community in check. NOTHING. They’re like the boogy man. They ain’t there, geniuses.

The Klan? I live in Nashville and about 100 miles away is the birth place of the Klan. I’ve never met or seen any Klan members in person or heard one single person voice support for them.
As for Dinkins and other celebs I love it when they show their bias on their sleeves…and shirts.
Remember when all the celebs threatened to move and slobbered all over the Democrat nominees running against W. Bush? They helped elect him because I think most middle class Americans are tired of those bozos trying to nag us.
Please, all celebs and media, bring on all the Obama Loveamania 24/7 and don’t hide it. It’s a proven formula to keep the Democrats out of the White House most of the time.

I have heard her reports on WWJ numerous times–just a neutral opinion on her there. Nothing exceptional, good or bad.
I suspect this was more about WWJ wanting to cut payroll–and this afforded a nice opportunity to bring down the axe. I agree with Rick on this point:
“On one hand, I’m pleased she wore the Obama shirt, showcasing her bias. I hate it when reporters, who are blatantly biased, deny it to your face.”
Well said Rick, however, I wish they’d fire all the blatant lib partisans on staff and start fresh with some conservatives at these outlets to restore some sanity to the so called “news” reporting.
One press liberal gone, millions more to take her place–so no big deal here. It changes nothing really–just reinforces their front of (phony) “objectivity.”

Without doubt she showed poor judgment, although wearing an Obama jacket pales before moderating a national debate when you are writing a starstruck book about one of the candidates represented in the debate, and stand to profit financially, even aside from the obvious bias. Many other journalists do worse & nothing happens.
I wonder whether there was anything else the station could have done other than firing her, especially if this was a first offense. Maybe a two-week suspension? I’m sure she would have gotten the message.

Serves her right! Anyone who supports Osama Hussein should be arrested and executed for treason! We know what the ARAB, not black, neandrathal is, a muslim out for an Islam dominated America

I do not think we have one reporter in Michigan that is conservative. Each and every one of them are bleeding heart liberals. You have to wonder why Michigan is so challenged. Now they are hoping the Magic Messiah will rescue them this coming November.
