Prince Al-Waleed’s FOX News: “Occupied East Jerusalem”

By Debbie Schlussel

FOX News found an interesting way to wish a Happy Rosh HaShanah to its politically conservative Jewish viewers . . . by designating Jerusalem as “Jewish-occupied territory.” This is what appeared for most of Tuesday on FOXNews.com and at the time I was writing this entry (at 1:00 p.m. Eastern). (It has since been changed but was up this way for hours, and just as I was trying to post about it at 1:00 p.m., my internet service died and I could not get online for hours since my computer had a virus).

Over the weekend, FOX News Chief Roger Ailes gave an interview in which, among other things, he said that FOX News is veering away from its conservatism to become more “mainstream” and “moderate.”  And, apparently, part of that new era of “moderation” is calling the capital of the Jewish State of Israel, “Occupied East Jerusalem,”on the eve of the Jewish New Year holiday.  Today, FOX News posted the outrageous article, whining about newly-approved Jewish “settlements” in “Occupied East Jerusalem.”  I’ve posted the headline and first paragraph of the story as it appeared on FOXNews.com for hours today.

PAWNN: Prince Al-Waleed’s FOX News Says Jerusalem is “Jewish Occupied Territory”

While you might claim it’s an AP story, big deal.  Publications frequently edit and create their own headlines for AP stories and FOX News chose to go with “Occupied East Jerusalem” as an editorial decision and position.  That FOX News chose even to run this BS story opposing Jewish civil rights and promoting Muslims’ bigoted redlining of Jews was an editorial position on the part of FOX News.  This comes after FOX News, earlier in the year, chose to refer to Egypt, NOT Israel, as “America’s closest ally in the Middle East.”

Anytime anyone–let alone a purported news organization–uses the term “occupied” about any inch of land in Israel, it’s a bigoted, anti-Semitic term.  It implies that anytime a Jew lives somewhere on land that he legitimately owns or for which he pays rent, it’s illegitimate;  but anytime an Arab or Muslim lives on or rents that land, it is legitimate.  That’s bigotry and anti-Semitism, plain and simple.  And it’s no different than the promotion of the Nazis’ anti-Semitic laws against Jews owning property. Now, FOX News, by editorial choice and design, is promoting this point of view.

Fair and Balanced?  Not even close.

Yet another reason why FOX News is more aptly referred to by my name for it:  PAWNN–the Prince Al-Waleed News Network

Remember, he owns nearly Ten Percent of the network and its parent News Corp.  And he and the Murdochs are incredibly close.

Too close for comfort.

Roger Ailes should realize that conservatism IS being mainstream.

Oh, wait a minute, when Roger Ailes says “mainstream”, he means the fake definition, not the real one. And I guess that the reason why Ailes and Prince Al Waleed wants to do this move is because they are tired of having high ratings on their shows and now want to have their ratings be lowered to the middle of the pack or worse. Well, whether that is their intent or not, it will definetely be the result unless they stop it.

I thought Fox GOT to be number 1 by being Conservative—that is “Fair and Balanced.” Oh well, join MSNBC.

Bill O’ Reilly is an asshole anyway, Forever Buttkissing Obama.

Spot on as usual, Debbie–especially the folowing:

“Anytime anyone–let alone a purported news organization–uses the term “occupied” about any inch of land in Israel, it’s a bigoted, anti-Semitic term. Thank you for writing what I’ve been thinking.

JeffE on September 28, 2011 at 1:59 am

Yup. There’s no such term. I won’t bore any one in the know with the obvious history lesson.

But its politically correct to express bigotry and racism, full hatred of Jews even, that would never be tolerated for any group of people.

Thousands of Arabs are killed in Syria, the world can’t bring itself to impose sanctions against a mass-murdering totalitarian regime but it finds its collective voice of outrage when a few thousand apartments, a school, a shopping center and government offices are being built in a Jerusalem suburb and not one Arab would be harmed or killed by that move.

Its anti-Semitism, pure and simple. Jews are not allowed to do in their own capital what every other people on earth takes for granted.

And the fact this vile Jew-hatred is cloaked in diplomatic language only makes it more repellent and this is given full legitimacy on the MSM, Prince Al-Waleed’s duplicitous network included.

Civil rights and fair treatment for the Jews and Israel? Not in this century, baby!

I have been warning my friends for the better part of a year that Fox News has been toeing the Saudi line, since Al-Whatever bought into News Corp. (Thanks to you!) At first, they looked at me like I was crazy, now some of them have stopped watching it altogether. I stopped watching it when Al-Whatever bought the 10% stake. IMO it’s become just as bad, if not outright WORSE, than CNN. Thank you, Debbie, for warning us about this guy and the Muslim jihadists.

Jon on September 28, 2011 at 2:32 am

The arabs are the occupiers. Judeo-Christians need to adopt our own “al-haramain” policy and create a 200 square mile muslim free zone around Temple Mount.

Fox changed the title of the story to “U.S. Calls Israeli New Settlement Plans Disappointing.” But notice that the URL still contains the original title:

In this article, they STILL use the term “Occupied” East Jerusalem 2 X !!
It is right there in black and white.

Thank you Debbie for suffering through more FOX imbalance their new motto, “We Decide & You Listen”. Roger Ailes is suffering from the same mental disorder that effects Ted Turner. He feels that conservatives have no where else to turn to for their news so he figures he can give us the middle finger. We who have help build that network. Well that’s what the INTERNET is for, time to turn off Fox News. If I want news of Israel I use Debrkafile or 7 Israel, not FoxNews.

A_Zion_State_0'mind on September 28, 2011 at 7:49 am

I think I read somewhere recently that Al Waleed is starting up an Arabian news channel. Maybe that is where Fox news is getting its stories now.

Jarhead on September 28, 2011 at 8:25 am

NormanF writes, “but [the world] finds its collective voice of outrage when a few thousand apartments, a school, a shopping center and government offices are being built in a Jerusalem suburb and not one Arab would be harmed or killed by that move.”

So true. The EU’s Ashton has demanded – *demanded* – that Israel rescind its approval for more apartments in the *Jewish* neighborhood of Gilo. Memo to Ashton: In Begin’s inimitable words, “Israel is not a vassal state” (though it sometimes acts like one). And even as many Israelis are now seeing Obama as “pro-Israel” only because of his UN speech, the State Department finds that project’s approval “deeply disappointing” and “unproductive”. (Well, at least they didn’t harshly condemn, as they’ve done in the past.) Yet they’ve said not a word about the PA’s intent that no Jews remain in a planned state of Palestine.

Raymond in DC on September 28, 2011 at 9:16 am

Raymond, it gets worse. The Nazi Gilad Atzmon’s new racist diatribe against Jews is endorsed by two leading academics, I won’t name them here to avoid giving them unwarranted credibility but I am bringing it up to illustrate the temperament of our era. Bigotry and intolerance against Jews is indeed respectable, worthy even of academic approbation. No one sees anything wrong with it. That is exactly the problem!

NormanF on September 28, 2011 at 10:23 am

This is for the moronic conservatives who once in a while comments here, and espouses BS from the Republican party by claiming, “yadda yadda Fox News is very conservative yadda yadda”. Ok you foolish Fox News-dittoheads, if Fox News is very conservative, then how come that news outlet banned two conservatives from you’re network (the conservative I’m referring to are Debbie Schlussel and Michael Savage)? And please don’t give me the BS claiming, “yadda yadda the reason why Fox banned Savage and Schlussel is because there both fringes and extremist yadda yadda”, BULLS__T! Both Savage and Schlussel are NOT extremist and NOT fringes, to me the two of them are both moderate middle-of-the-road conservatives who’s very “INDEPENDENT” and free-thinkers.

Also, if Fox News is very conservative, then how about 20% of their stock is currently owned by Prince Al-Waleed of Saudi Arabia? That doesn’t sound conservative to me, that sounds kinda “globalist” to me. The conservatives who drinks the Fox News kool-aid are nothing but “Globalist-Conservatives” in which these louts fake it on a daily basis!

“A nation is defined by its borders, language & culture!”

Sean R. on September 28, 2011 at 10:37 am

As Debbie explained in the past, in theory Fox News sounds good. In practice its very different because conservatives don’t demand any better. And if they don’t demand better, Fox is only going to be slightly better than the rest of the MSM.

And in their reporting on Israel, its hard to see where the supposed improvement lies.

That’s not good enough for America.

NormanF on September 28, 2011 at 12:52 pm

I tend to bounce between Debbie and Weasel Zippers—WZ has great shots of Taliban and Hamas assholes suffering “Premature Projectile Dysfunction.” No Viagra will help that.

Occam's Tool on September 28, 2011 at 10:40 am

I gave up on Fox News a long time ago when I realized that their “fair and balanced” motto was just an excuse to present a lot of liberal and left wing garbage which I could just as well get on MSNBC. Murdoch and his crew are not conservatives. They are only interested in money and power and Fox News is a money making niche which a lot of foolish conservatives have supported.

Jerry on September 28, 2011 at 10:48 am

Irregardless, FOXNEWS is still the most pro-Israel network on TV. None of CNN, MSNBC or the 3 other networks ABC, CBS or NBC are even close.

And FOXNEWS is abot a zillion times more “fair and balanced” than every single one of those politically correct/leftist other networks.

    Bill C. on September 28, 2011 at 1:42 pm

A rare pro-Israel Muslim got a Star Of David carved in his back by Muslim attackers. The story was totally ignored by the MSM:

http://www.kmov.com/news/local/St-Louis-man-says-hes-the-victim-of-a-hate-crime-130680978.html

The story illustrated how widespread hatred of Jews and Israel is among American Muslims. The vast majority of them are anti-Semitic, support Hamas and Hezbollah and hate America and support Israel’s destruction.

I’m not telling you anything Debbie hasn’t reported on here. Its not news. But it does tell you what Islam isn’t: the few Muslims in America who are genuine friends of the Jewish people and support Israel, are outcasts in their own community.

A shocking hate crime to be sure. But that’s Islam to a T. I would be surprised if the outcome had been different! And don’t think the Muslims like the attackers in St. Louis Mo, are atypical. Representative is more like it.

Now you can see why in general, Islam is not good for America!

NormanF on September 28, 2011 at 11:36 am

Read Jimmy Carter’s “The Blood of Abraham.” it’s a good explantion of the Arabs’ side of the conflict. I still say we oughta get outta the MidEast. No use being there.

Jimmy Carter is an anti-Semite. Debbie is correct about the so-called value of his book. Any one who has a good word to put in for Hamas and Hezbollah is not a friend of the Jewish people. You need to educate yourself about the Middle East or you will understand nothing about it!

NormanF on September 28, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Israel is the proble – the leftists/anti-semites have said over and over.

Israel is the reason muslims invaded france until charlemagne defeated them and israel is the reason muslims captured andalusia and attacked india hundreds of years ago as they tool this arab bs religion across asia and into europe murdering as they spread their slime religion. turkey to this day denies the armenian genocide they committed as does sudan deny the genocide of blacks to seize the oil in sudam. AND both did it because of israel.

anyone who listens to a word a muslim leader is another neville chamberlain piece of feces! and that includes carter and ron paul.

        Occam's Tool on October 1, 2011 at 7:38 pm

Norman, thanks for the link dude. Mr. Alsaegh is one of the few-to-some good muslims out there that we don’t hear too often, who happens to be on the side of good instead of evil. I hope the police in St. Louis finds his attackers and arrest them and Mr. Alsaegh finds himself a great attorney (like Debbie Schlussel herself), prosecute his attackers in court, etc. They (Alaa Alsaegh’s attackers are muslim barbarians) attacked the poor man because he wrote poems that supports Israel and jewish folks. And I disagree with some of the commentators on that website by claiming it’s not a hate-crime, and his attackers might be jewish (which is a lie), etc. Some of the commentators on that site couldn’t be any wrong.

“A nation is defined by its borders, language & culture!”

Sean R. on September 28, 2011 at 12:03 pm

    SeanR,

Its a hate crime. I wouldn’t like to see this happen to any one. If people don’t see the real nature of Islam as represented in the attack, acquainting them with the danger it represents to America is wasted on them. Yes, there are pro-Jewish and pro-Israel Muslims, but they are rarer than a hen’s tooth. That is exactly the point.

NormanF on September 28, 2011 at 12:43 pm

Ailes can stuff it. Thank goodness I gave up PAWNN news long ago due to DS’ reporting. And how I wish I was able to see what is so blatantly clear now…back then.

We don’t want a Conservative News Network…we want a TRUTHFUL News Network. What annoys me (and I am seeing just how clueless some Conservatives are in the pre-election activities) is that so many Conservatives think that Fraud News is a good, Conservative News Network. Eff those dopes!

Bill O’Reilly is the biggest faker and ZerObama apologist. I heard how that loofah-lover said he admired Zero for becoming President even thou’ he came from a single mum household and supposed “poverty”. That splotchy, old goat apparently hasn’t done his homework (Zero had no dad and barely a mum, but his grandparents were middle-class NOT poor) and we know he is too afraid to be seem as raaaaaaaaacist if he takes it to the “BAM!”. Eff you Bill O’Reilly you phony bully!

And the other thing that boils my blood is how the always dumb and uninformed Liberals think that PAWNN News is soooo right wing. As with most entities they are against, the truth is right in front of them that PAWNN News is more like them than right wing. Idiots.

Brett Winterble took apart Fraud News expertly yesterday! It made my heart feel like an alligator! (How they ignore the real news and fill the airwaves with shysters going on about court cases segment after segment…guess they have to give Megyn Kelly some semblance of credibility since she is the crown Queen of PAWNN News!

As a news editor, I always have to correct AP on anything related to Israel. I get angry each time — it’s beyond stupid now … now it’s malicious.

It is apropos that Jimmy Carter comes to mind in the above comments because he is also subsidized by Muslim money. The major contributors to his foundation are gulf states, and their ruling families.

Like I always say, follow the money. It isn’t really so hard to figure out. When a public figure holds anti-Israel views, it stands to reason he gets paid to promote them.

Personally have seen many headlines to stories on thatr site posted THEN not too long after reworded. AND most of them had absolutely nothing to do with Israel. Seems like they have either some loose cannons or greenhorn interns working on teir website news.

Not Ovenready on September 28, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Fox News Channel has been going downhill for years, but it has really taken a turn for the worse now. If Islamic pandering is what I sought, I would go to MSNBC and CNN for it. Mr. Ailes seems to think that following in the footsteps of a failed competitor is a wise business move. Also, Al-Waleed’s money is about as dirty as it comes, and he does not spread it around for charitable purposes.

Worry01 on September 28, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Debbie, I like your site and appreciate your energetic defense of Israel, which is under a total assault and has to act loyal to an American President who just pretends to be a “friend of Israel.” How Obama got 78 percent of the Jewish vote is beyond me, since we already knew in 2008 that he was a leftist and a friend of political Palestinians like Said and Rashid Khalidi.

Conservatives must do something about Fox. How can a network pose as “conservative” and be attacked a “right wing” when it is nothing of the sort? What can you say about a network the fires Glenn Beck, despite stratospheric ratings, and keeps Shep Smith and Geraldo Rivera?

I use to have confidence in Roger Ailes, but now I think someone else is calling the shots. Murdoch? Not likely. Prince Al-Waleed? This becomes more sinister when you think that Fox only became concerned about Beck when he prominently identified himself with Israel.

I suspect that Ailes has had his ear chewed on by Prince Al-Waleed or someone acting on his behalf. Or he has been told by Murdoch to listen to Prince Al-Waleed or not do anything to upset him. If you will recall, Prince Al-Waleed invested in Fox just when Murdoch was desperate for cash, and his media empire was teetering.

So now we have an investor who thinks of himself — and is thought of — as a “guardian angel” who might again be available if cash is quickly needed. Something behind-the-scenes is happening at Fox.

Fox should not be called a “conservative” network. Except for a few commentators — Bill O’Reilly (although he is undependable) and Sean Hannity — I cannot for the life of me name a clear conservative at Fox. Does anyone feel that Greta or Chris Wallace are conservatives?

Fox is already middle-of-the-road (a little-known fact) and about where CNN was at the time of the Gulf War.

What can be done either to make Fox more conservative, found a new, real “conservative” network, or at least make people understand that Fox is subject to Arab influence?

This is a little-noticed aspect of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Is is never noted that Arab money has been given to EVERY major university in the county — often to fund a Middle East studies department. I have often wondered if Obama is an Arab agent-of-influence, or perhaps you are one of those people who believe the fairy tale that Obama raised $200 million “on the internet.” Needless to say, the media have ignored this story.

I often wonder if Israel will soon become “the late, great State of Israel.” With left-wing American Jews, who have no pronounced feelings about Israel, the disloyal Israeli left, and the Caliphate being re-formed, I fear for the future.

JOSEPH MCNULTY on September 30, 2011 at 2:37 pm

Thanks Mr. McNulty; you have stated truth. My way of dealing with Fox is simple; I do not watch TV at all and get my news on the internet from various sources. Frankly I think TV is a bore and find the only thing worth watching is movies, most of which are DVDs and darn few of those. So I miss all the back and forth nonsense about who said what, but I do understand that the Saudi prince now owns a chunk of this cable channel and soon it will be another Al Jazeera – just wait and see. Basically the only way to deal with this leftwing TV control is to share important news and developments with an email list of your own, and I select 5 or more each day to pass on, often sent to me by conservative friends. I almost never resend nonsense despite the incredible number of such that arrive with instructions to pass on. I am trying to inform!
