Why is the Media Making Such a Big Deal Out of the Anchor Baby Gold Medalist?

By Debbie Schlussel
Is it just me . . . or are you also bothered by the mainstream liberal media’s heavy coverage of Henry Cejudo’s Olympic gold medal win in wrestling?
Usually, no-one cares who won the gold medal in wrestling, whether it’s an American or not. Unless you are a big wrestling devotee or fan, I doubt you can name a single American medalist in wrestling from any Olympic Games.
But Cejudo is different. Why? Not because he won the 55-kilogram men’s freestyle event in Beijing. But because his parents are illegal aliens from Mexico–ahem, “undocumented aliens”, as AP and NBC News’ Brian Williams all called them in their PC coverage of Cejudo. And Cejudo is an anchor baby. (At least The New York Times had the guts to call his mother an “illegal immigrant.” That’s progress.)

Henry Cejudo: Proud American Gold Medalist is Also Proud Anchor Baby

Kudos to him that he won an Olympic gold medal, but he’s an anomaly–the exception, NOT the rule. His story is great. His mother worked hard as a janitor and construction worker, and he’s clearly proud to be an American. But she took jobs from and lowered wages for American citizens. And she was breaking the law by being here. Whether or not her son won a sporting event on behalf of America does not excuse that, nor is it anything other than an anomaly from the usual illegal alien “contribution” to America.
We see these stories occasionally–about the high school valedictorian going to Harvard who is an anchor baby or an illegal alien that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) seeks to deport. And now, there’s this touting of Cejudo.
But most illegal aliens and their birthright citizenship-endowed kids–anchor babies–are not Olympic gold medalists or Harvard-bound valedictorians. They are leeches on the system, at the very least. And often, criminals. Or worse–if you go to Dearbornistan or Brooklyn or other Islamic centers around America–they are America-hating, Medicaid-abusing, terrorist-supporting burdens (and possibly terrorists themselves).
So while the mainstream media wants to impress upon us that illegal aliens are the producers of Olympic gold medalists for America and that anchor babies are the Olympic gold medalists themselves, that’s a nice fairy tale which the odds don’t support.
Henry Cejudo is the aberration, not the usual manifestation of the mass problem of 12-20 million illegal aliens and many more anchor babies in our midst.
And was Cejudo’s Olympic gold medal worth anything to American taxpayers versus the cost of services his parents likely took from American tax-funded coffers? Does his Olympic gold medal win give you, the American taxpayer, anything of value other than a fleeting, ephemeral sense of pride (if that)?
Exit Question for the mainstream media touting Cejudo’s gold medal win:
How many kids of illegal aliens, how many anchor babies have won Olympic gold medals for America? Versus how many continue to take American jobs, leech American tax-funded services and benefits, commit crimes against Americans within America?
One (and possibly up to a handful) versus millions?
Sorry, but those stats don’t back up the singular and rarely duplicated Henry Cejudo narrative.
You know the old saying about how if you work hard in America, you can do anything? Now, the media is changing the trite adage:
If your parents sneak into America, evade immigration authorities, and cheat the system, you can do anything.
Not that Henry Cejudo didn’t work hard. But his parents worked harder . . . at piercing America’s borders and breaking the law.

So Cejudo’s parents are illegal aliens, and now this illegal family has gotten a lot of publicity. Why don’t any of these media hacks call for the immediate deportation and/or imprisonment of these illegal aliens in his family. If we follow the law, especially with these now-prominent people, the law would be applied to these criminals immediately. And I wonder how many of this ‘handful’ are exaggeated due to PC and affirmative action considerations.

He’s so proud to be an American, he already knows how to disrespect our flag.
Must have been schooled by our 400-meter hurdles team.

“I doubt you can name a single American medalist in wrestling from any Olympic Games.”
Debbie my darling, every pro rasslin’ fan knows one…Kurt Angle!
Actually, maybe I shouldn’t be too proud I watch pro rasslin…it’s true, it’s true.

And I fail to see why people are making such a big deal out of the Olympics altogether. I don’t mean to come off as a stick in the mud but I have no interest in watching athletes in tight skimpy revealing uniforms which is why I don’t watch nor pay attention to sports.I find it all to be anything but thrilling but thats just being me and this doesn’t pass for entertainment as far as I’m concerned so there!

Apparently, you have never heard of Dan Gable. I’m not a wrestling buff, but Dan Gable was one of the, if not THE best freestyle wrestler of all time.
I haven’t heard of this other guy you’ve written about.
So many sports. So little time.

Well someone already said Kurt Angle (who’s with TNA now Jeff). But I can also name another one who’s still with WWE and is currently the ECW champion:
Mark Henry

I also found the over emphasis on this story annoying, especially the glorification of the CRIME of entering this country illegally. How about a story like my mother’s who worked her tail feather off to get a work visa and then came worked, LEARNED ENGLISH, got a job and a career, paided her taxes and never asked for a penny from the gov.?! I’m not saying my mother is just anybody, but if she can do it anyone can!

I think its great he won. If you read the story, he got there not only by the hard work of his mom, but by the loving support and vision of other honest, hardworking Americans who saw his talent and nurtured it. Yes, his mom is an illegal alien, but this is a country that was built on immigration, both legal and illegal. Without it, we will not survive in our current standard of living. If you want to blame somebody, look no further than the White House or better yet, other “Americans” who hire them to be nannies, cooks, caretakers and artists. Look anywhere else but to this story, where everyone has come out a winner!
Oh and he is also the youngest person to ever win an Olympic Gold medal for wrestling.

I also found it annoying that the NBC commentators went straight to interview Lolo Jones when she LOST the 100m hurdles even though an American woman, Dawn Harper, won the event. All they could talk about was Lolo… because Lolo has the better sob story: her family used to be homeless. Dawn Harper’s from East St. Louis which is not exactly Beverly Hills, so I’m sure there’s a story there.

Dittos to c f’s comments. Deport them!
The MSM loves to do with this issue like it does with abortion rights — use the “hard cases” to shape the debate (they’re “hard” for morons without real principles being followed in their reasoning). They did this with illegal hiding behind her kids in the church. It doesn’t fly.
Our policy should be—If you are here illegally–go home now or you WILL be deported. Gold medalist anchor baby kid or no–you’re outta here!

BB on August 20, 2008 at 7:11 pm

Deporting doesn’t work. You must send them to a horrible detention center such as could be done on, oh maybe Devils Island, it held Pappilon for a while. Anchor babies would go with them.

I didnt know crap about this anchor baby until you mentioned this. Maybe it’s because I just dont pay attention to the Olympics or tune in to CNN/MSNBC/NBC/CBS/ABC.

He can be ‘the wonder of the age’ I DON’T CARE. The government of the United States is actively, daily and openly BREAKING THE LAW, not enforcing the law of the land. No one is above the law. No one is above the law. When government takes such explicit and broad-ranging exception to enforcing the law,(a law MOST Americans want enforced) this republic is doomed. It is a moral and civil catastrophe. A precedent for endless disaster.

poetcomic1 on August 21, 2008 at 9:51 am

The founding Fathers knew what to call it, Tyranny.
Our current Government is so out of control that it may be to late to bring them back to the alter of law and order.
They have been allowed to break the law, ignore the law and make unconstitutional laws for so long they have no idea what the Constitution says anymore.
..and sadly it is the MSM that has been their biggest cheerleader.

“Look anywhere else but to this story, where everyone has come out a winner!”
His illegal parents are real winners, yes sirree. Break the law, abuse the system and you too can be rewarded and a winner! lol Such a point of pride I`m sure. I can almost hear their son now… My parents are criminals, not were……are…….on going….they broke and continue to break the law……I owe my success to them……without them breaking the law I would not be standing on this podium today!!!!! Yeehaw!!!!!!

next thing you know they’ll be having gay sex and giving abortions to pregnant braindead ladies!!

Whereas you were an olympic gold medalist and Harvard-bound valedictorian?

I work for a tech company servicing computers in markets in the tri state area (ny nj ct)… what I see daily regarding abuse of welfare is off the charts. I was at a CTown in Queens today (hillside ave). People were driving up in Cadillac Escalades, Mercedes Benz’s etc… and yep they all had EBT (foodstamps). And so many people seem to have the nicest phones (and jewelery) at the poorest stores… We are financing our own demise based on a good premise of helping those in need. They all know how to work the system, walk into any NJ store in the “UEZ” (urban enterprise zone), not only do they pay less tax (% wise), they get govt assistance. So much for treating people as equal. Some are more equal than others.

At least this guy wants to compete for his country, instead of Mexico. Look at the basketball playing broad who decided to play for Team Russia just because they would pay her a million bucks. We should have a citizenship swap program. That chick swaps her US citizenship and gets Henry’s Mexican citizenship.
