Becky Hammon: More Evidensky That the Olympics Are a Fraud, Games Outlived Their “Purpose”

By Debbie Schlussel
Longtime readers of my work know that I am not a fan of the Olympic Games. This is despite the fact that I represented Olympic Silver Medalist Diver Scott Donie during the 1996 Olympic Games, as his agent and attorney. I’ve written a three-part series about why the Olympics is a cauldron of deceit and tyranny. (“What’s So Great About the Olympics? Nothing,” Part I, Part II, Part III)
In reality, the Games are not about international competition or peace and understanding, as they are billed. They are about promoting Anti-Americanism, Communism, Islamic terrorism, and Anti-Semitism. All of these things have been part and parcel of the Olympics throughout the last century. The International Olympic Committee still refuses to memorialize the slaughtered Israeli athletes who gave their lives at the 1972 Munich Games. The only good thing about the Olympics was the 1980 USA Hockey Team defeat of the Soviets in the semi-finals at Lake Placid, a glorious moment the world wishes to minimize, as does the Olympic Games governing structure.
That Was Then, This is Nowsky: American Becky Hammon . . .

beckyhammon2.jpg

. . . Is Now “Russian” Bekki Hammon
beckyhammon.jpg

Now, there’s the issue of Becky Hammon, as yet another example of how fraudulent the Olympics is. Her story will shine the most attention on Olympic Women’s Basketball that it’s ever gotten and far more than it deserves. But it also sheds light on how fake the “international” aspect of the Olympics actually is.
Hammon–one of the few WNBA players who actually looks like a woman–was not chosen to play for Team USA. So, this blonde native daughter of South Dakota–who didn’t speak a word of Russian–chose to play basketball in Russia. They made her a quickie citizen. And, now–Strasveui, Bekki (“Hello, Becky” in Russian)–meet the newest Russian Olympic basketball player. She will be the only member of the team who doesn’t wear a Cross Your Heart Hammock, er . . . Bra. But even she has glammed down to look like a true WNBA, er . . . Russian basketball player.
This chick is as American as apple pie. She’s as much of a Russian as I’m from Fiji. And this is the BS of the Olympics. Athletes who don’t make it in their native country can now pick and choose.
The games aren’t amateur either, as they once were. That was the beauty of the USA Hockey Team’s 1980 win. They were true amateurs who slept on old prison cots at Lake Placid, against steroid-ridden professional Russian players. Now, everyone is a pro, with thousands to millions of dollars in sponsorships and lucrative advertising deals.
And since the athletes are neither amateurs nor real natives of the countries for which they play, what’s the point? No point, other than mucho dinero for Olympic athletes, the multi-billion dollar bloated Olympic bureaucracy, and NBC (which currently holds the broadcast rights).
No, there is nothing “Olympic” about the Olympic Games anymore.

Couldn’t agree more. If we had any cajones, we’d (USA) pull out of this like a Kyoto summit. It’s far more about promoting seperatist BS than “unity”. Remember the inappropriate “black power” salute? More agenda driven than anything else.

What! You prefer the Avery Brudidge days?
The Olympics were always flawed in some way or another. Either the games are good or they’re not.
So many sports. So little time.
I wish they’d make NASCAR an Olympic sport. Then the world would be perfect. :+)

Reminds me of when Hillary Clinton intially ran for Congresscritter in the state of New York. Quickie citizen.
Frankly, I’ve lost interest in the Olympics and the poor ratings the last Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics recieved show that I’m not alone in that respect. Furthermore they keep adding competitions that are not sports. Without getting into long drawn-out debate, one point: anything that relies mostly or completely on judges to determine who wins is a COMPETITION and NOT A SPORT. Gymnastics, for example, is a competition and not a sport. If we are to accept gymnastics as a sport, then we have to also call beauty pageants and American Idol sports, too. They perform. Judges determine winners and losers. They definitely lost me when Olympic officials started seriously considering ballroom dancing to be included in Summer Olympic competitions in the future.

Ballroom Dancing? Goodness…and I hear poker was trying to be in the games too!!
What about softball? Or even bowling?? And dare I say…american football *coughnflplayerscough*!??

The Olympics are more of a marketing and propaganda event than a sports competition. There are a few good competitions in the Olympics, but most of it is as you say–rules broken, inconsistent judging and much cheating by participants. The story becomes “how bad was the judging?” and “who got caught cheating” more than other things. The athletes who switch countries as you note with this example–what a farce.
We remember (at least hearing about) Hitler using the Olympics for his show back in 1936–it was nice to have Jesse Owens rain on his parade. As I recall, the former head of the IOC was a guy named Avery Brundage. I think he was a Kurt Waldheim type–very biased, and even a Nazi. I think that is why there was so little attention paid to what happened to the murdered Israeli athletes in Munich 1972 (of all places).
These guys in charge have secret political agendas. The Chinese will make this 2008 Olympics into a real show this year. It will be a coming out party of sorts for the Chicoms to show us how good the Chicom system has worked. Yeah right.

The Games are a farce. I won’t watch any of it. Except, of course, women’s beach volleyball.

Hard to feel sorry for her. Why play with the russians, when you can try again?

mindy1 on June 19, 2008 at 8:13 am

I’m not sure, but doesn’t the United States prohibit dual citizenship with Russia? I met some Russians who forfeited their Russian citizenship after becoming US citizens. Or maybe you won’t have to forfeit your US citizenship if you were born in the US.
In any case, she should have had her US citizenship stripped upon accepting the Russian citizenship, especially since she sold out herself for a few lousy bucks… and to the arch enemy! You can’t serve two masters.
This traitoress can go to hell… The games are a farce and so are all involved.

Squirrel3D, I could be mistaken, but I think softball actually is an Olympic sport.
I love it when people who really don’t like sports try to tell me how much they love the Olympics, sort of the same people who “appreciate” hockey and soccer. zzzzzzzzz
Hey, who knew there was a good looking chick in the WNBA? I bet she gets a bunch of foul shots with the other “guys” in the WNBA grabbing her when she’s playing, not to mention the huge crowd hanging around her in the shower room.

Debbie, I believe you have it backwards. Originally, the olympics [greek days] were for professional athletes – who lived to compete for their “masters”, or benefactors. It wasn’t until Victorian England when this fabricated “amateur” ideal was invented. Check it out. You’ll see quickly that allowing pros [b-ball, hockey, etc.] is true to the original Olympics, not the Victorian baggage style Olympic Ideal we cling to for some reason which is beyond me.
[J: I’M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE ANCIENT GREEK OLYMPICS. I’M TALKING ABOUT THE CONTEMPORARY OLYMPICS. TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT AND MODERN GAMES–I’VE WRITTEN ABOUT THAT, TOO. CHECK THE LINKS OF MY THREE-PART SERIES, ABOVE. DS]

“It wasn’t until Victorian England when this fabricated “amateur” ideal was invented.”
I think you’ll find Pierre de Coubertin was French

OK, that’s her choice to become a Russian citizen. Hopefully the taxpayers will not be paying for her to get Social Security when she is older, Medicare, or any other entitlement benefits. No education grants or loans. Let the rathole countries that dominate the Olympics pay for those things. These countries that dominate the Olympics can’t even run their own countries, but they love telling the US what to do.

The Hammon story is reminiscent of how Gulf Arab countries “buy” East African distance runners, many of them Christians. The deal is that they must adopt Muslim Arab names, although I’m not sure if they must also convert, er, revert to Islam. Here’s the sad story of one Kenyan who sold himself to Bahrain, ran a marathon in Israel, and is now “stateless”:

Here’s the happy ending for the Kenyan runner. He’s now Kenyan again, and in January won Israel’s Tiberias Marathon again, and picked up $40,000:

Olympics suck. Their coverage sucks. The stuff I’m interested in is never showcased at the right time or moment. And to top it all off, c’mon, they award it to China? LMAO It’s hilarious.
Half the time I don’t believe who wins did it without some type of drug. I find sports more and more disgusting if it seems along the award or professional line any more. Everyone is into I hate America mode but they say nothing about how awarding the olympics to the chinese to hold when there are so many human rights violations? I scoff at them!

diaphanous on June 20, 2008 at 6:46 am

Oh and the last olympics had basketball men’s players look like a bunch of hoodlums from America with tattoos and gang type look. I was embarrassed to even watch to see these hoodlums say they were playing from America. Disgusting.
