Mo’ Detroit Stooopid: Crazy Mrs. John Conyers Erupts Again; UPDATE: Video Added–“Do It, Baby!”

By Debbie Schlussel
**** UPDATE, 04/13/08: Scroll Down for Video ****
It’s hard to pick the most absurd member of the Detroit government, because indicted Mayor Kwame “The Kingpin” Kilpatrick has his strong competitors. One of ’em is Detroit City Councilwoman, Monica Conyers, “wife” of far-left Congressman and oft-rumored gay John Conyers (“not that there’s anything wrong with that“).
Ms. Conyers, decades her husband’s junior, has an interesting record of drunken bar brawls and other idiocy. My favorite move of hers was her attempt to rename the Detroit Tunnel to Canada after her “bearded” husband. It was symbolic of all of his (and her) under-water, tunnel-vision “ideas.” She’s a never-ending source of hilarity. We’re laughing at her, not with her.

And today was no exception. During an episode of the sitcom called the Detroit City Council, Ms. Conyers called city council prez Kenneth Cockrell, Jr., “Shrek,” and started shrieking:

You’re not my Daddy. You’re not going to disrespect me. Grow up! Control your house and learn how to treat women.

Old Enough to Be Her Daddy: John & Monica Conyers

As usual, there was absolutely no reason for her newsmaking outburst. The woman is a loon and a joke, but then so is pretty much everyone “running” Detroit.
Exit question: Who’s your Daddy, Monica?

I think the word ‘disrespect’ is just about the most obnoxious word I have heard African=Americans use. Whenever someone disagrees with them, or corrects them at work, school, or anywhere else, they are being ‘disrespected’. Although her type of ludicrous behavior certainly does lead to disrespect. When you compare these people with really respected individuals — in spite of their faults, I could never imagine Laura Bush or Condi Rice wearing outfits like that or acting like that, or Joe Lieberman’s wife, much less Mrs. Reagan. Mrs. Conyers is a clown — the one encouraging thing is that the newspaper comments on your link were by and large critical of her.

Debbie, My mother grew up in the same neighborhood as John, She has always told me that John is gay. (Not that there is anything wrong with it) She said it was no big secret back than. So, that is not news to me.
Where on earth did she come from? I can’t imagine that she has a legitimate law degree. I have seen crack hoe’s with more class than her.

kieko on April 11, 2008 at 6:10 pm

I’m sorry, I realize that if I were on the radio I’d be fired, but….She really does resemble a “Nappy Headed Hoe” I’m still trying to figure out who exactly is Uniting in between her big breasteses?? I’m with Kieko, “Where on Earth did she come from?”…and can she please go back…

What a moron. They ought to run a fence around this city and not let anyone in or out. Give it to Mexico. The IQ of the rest of the nation would measurably tick upward.

Nice rack…
but irrelevant to politics. Go back to doing what you do best….*can’t say it here*

Haha. I clicked on the original link and read the article. Check out the picture of city council. It is pretty much a testament to the reason Detroit is in the crapper. The folks above are right. When you have a constituency of uneducated, anti-American, conspiracy nut fools, you will have politicians who reflect that and satiate the idiocy of the base to get re-elected over and over again. We have the same type of fools as council-members in Cleveland. The minutes of our city council meeetings honestly read like scripts from the 1930s Amos and Andy show.

JasonBourne81 on April 12, 2008 at 1:52 pm

Folks, let’s also not forget that Conyers uses his staffers as babysitters for his kids, housemaids, and family chauffers. That’s what you can get away with when you validate the conspiracy theories of the uneducated idiots you represent, and get re-elected time and time again.

JasonBourne81 on April 12, 2008 at 1:54 pm

The other thing that got me is that in your link to FREEP, they used “disrespect” as a verb in their narrative, without any quotations, as though it were a legitimate English verb. Just another example of the debasement of vocabulary & the media.

There’s nothing deserving of respecteses.

I couldn’t care if Conyers is gay. However, because of his seniority in Congress, his militant economic leftism is dangerous, and the citizens of metro Detroit and the country have been paying for that. That Ms. Conyers is one of the dingbats responsible for Detroit’s continuing morass is not surprising. What does surprise me is that Detroit’s middle-class black population, which really bears the brunt of foolish policies, has let Ms. Conyers and other idiots run the city for so long. Even in DC, middle-class blacks eventually turned against Cokenose Marion Barry and his cadre. Warning to Detroit: DC is still picking up the pieces and still finding where financial controls were dismantled and who took how much and when.

I don’t know how these demographics necessarily work out in Detroit, but in Cleveland; most of the middle class blacks have already left the city along with the middle class whites. Ms. Thang Conyers, to me, is basically a younger version of Cheeks-Kilpatrick, mother of Detroit’s esteemed mayor. If you want to see some great comedy, google her on You-tube and watch her stump speech for darling Kwame.

It used to be cities would expand because suburban towns found they benefited by being absorbed by the city. Maybe what we should do nowadays is in reverse. Here in Philadelphia I’ve thought Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery Counties, the three bordering counties of the city should absorb equal thirds of the city. I live in Montgomery County, I hope they get the part of the city that has City Hall, that building with the big tower with the statue of William Penn on top. Turn it into condos. Oh, and I want the Art Museum complete with the Rocky steps. Of course each county would have to take the good with the bad, but, I think the bad could be better managed. And, everyone lives happily ever after.

“The floors out there.”
“You don’t ha’ to hear me, we don’ ha’ to hear you!”
“So you not my daddy!”
“You do that at home, not here!”
“You may not do dat at home but choo ‘gon do it up in here!”
“Control ya house and you know how ta treat otha women better!”
“Y’all not ‘gon disrespect me up here.”
I bet if we stand near MLK’s grave we’ll hear a distinct spinning sound.
Oh, heck, let’s just refer to him as ‘Pinwheel Marty’ from now on.

You gotta admit, the “Shrek” comment was pretty funny.

SoSmrt on April 14, 2008 at 11:32 am

IMO– a smarter Shrek would not have taken the bait. It is hard when you are being provoked by an idiot– not to get sucked into a gutter level exchange–still, a wiser Cockrell needs to guard that against that. What a sad state of affairs it is in Detroit.
Last week they noted how Detroit has perhaps the worst public schools in the country based on the fact that they graduate less than 25% of those who begin high school. Those who do graduate, generally get half an education of the better suburban schools. As noted by other posters–the group of “leaders” we see here reflects the ingnorance of the poorest blacks who remain in the city.
It is going to take a combination of outside intervention and a real no nonsense type decent man to arise to deal with it. Can Cockrell (Shrek) be that man? He’s got to start with some anger management first. Shrek was complicit in this pitiful episode. When he first called out Conyers on her interruption–his method pre-supposed an intelligent person would accept the rebuke and shut up. Wrong! He’s got to have more common sense than that.

This reminds me of how the freed slaves during Reconstruction ran amok in the statehouses of the defeated Southern states–sitting with their feet on the desks, eating chicken and throwing the bones on the floor.

I thought Planet of the Apes was fiction….the Detroit City Council has proven me wrong.

DDB on April 14, 2008 at 9:35 pm

The horrors of race-based politics on full display. Proof that you should NEVER vote for someone based on the color of their skin, be it white, black, brown…whatever. Heres the sad little rumor no one will speak of: The embarrassing display that purports itself to be the Detroit City Council is a microcosm of what will follow if Barack O gets elected….histrionics, theatrics, and screams of “Oh no, you di’nt!”

CapitalistPig on April 14, 2008 at 10:55 pm

Is this typical of Detroit City Council meetings? If so, it’s not surprising that Detroit is having so much troubles.

Carl on April 15, 2008 at 4:22 am

Wow classic line “During an episode of the sitcom called the Detroit City Council”. However we here in San Diego can top all that with “Enron By The Sea”. These fools soaked the taxpayers with $3 BILLION in pension fraud. 5 city officials indicted over fraud by Feds. I wish we could have some of that “comedy” with the shakedown we took. I mean I would take some popcorn and soda and go to council meetings if I lived in Detroit.

sandiego123 on April 15, 2008 at 4:36 am

This site is becoming more and more populated by people with racist inclinations, that are now barely cloaked. Like commenter lexi, was he there during the reconstruction to see the elected free slaves throw chicken bones on the floor of the state house? And here is another tidbit to wrap your little brain around, lexi: after the civil war, blacks made up the majority of the population in certain southern states. In a represenatative democracy, the majority governs. There was a great deal of societal integration in those years after the civil war, it was the south’s later imposition of segregation policies backed up with violence that essentially drove blacks north to places like…..Detroit.
If the south had allowed those integrated and majority black communities to go through the civil process of successes and failures that comes with governing themselves, we might not have the disasters that are Detroit, DC, Baltimore, etc. right now. The northern cities in the U.S. have had to deal with the legacy of the racial policies of the south.
Conyers is an idiot. But all this shows us is that politicians are ambitious, and not necessarily intelligent, and it is no different for any race. For examples of this I can think of some very white politicians who stated that we wouldn’t need more troops to secure Iraq than it took to defeat it, and that in any event, Iraqi oil money would pay for most of the war effort. Gee, I wonder which one is more harmful, the socially stunted city legislator calling someone shrek, or the highest government authority making decisions based on strategic fantasies and wildly unlikely best case scenarios.
The bottom line on all these issues is accountability. If Detroiters continue to elect people like Conyers, then they have to expect and accept the continued results of incompetence, just as this country has had to suffer another four years of incompetence due to our selection.

Staypositive on April 15, 2008 at 11:24 am

Black racists like these actually, really do believe that when it was 100% White,Whites acted exactly the same, therefore Blacks should be allowed to do likewise.
However “bad” it was when We were running it all,Blacks are ALWAYS worse, always far more uncivilized.

OldSchoolW on April 15, 2008 at 12:18 pm

Also, more childish, incompetent,wreckless,hyper-emotional,hysterically,fully unable to fully understand all the details necessary to keep something as important as this running as well as White did for centuries before. Then when it collapses( Which it ALWAYS does in their hands ) they do nothing but bitch,Blame Whitey, and just walk away, believing:”TSSSSssssss! Wasn’t my DAY-YUM fault!”
