Pew Center: Far Fewer Muslims in America Than Claimed

By Debbie Schlussel
Most mainstream media reports on the just-released survey from the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life are touting results showing that Americans are less religious, with over 16% saying they aren’t members of any religion.
But, while that’s important, there’s a far more important number in the survey, “U.S. Religious Landscape Survey,” that you aren’t hearing about: the number of Muslims in America. Since 9/11, Muslims and their propaganda groups have repeatedly touted that their legions include 6-7 million Americans. In the past few years, they’ve invented a new number: 9 million.
But the Pew survey–and remember, Pew is a liberal outfit–found that only 0.6% are, in fact, Muslims, or 1.8 million out of 300,000,000 residents of America. That includes Muslim illegal aliens, too (of which there are far more than the conventional wisdom admits).

pewreligionsurvey.jpg

Since HAMAS-front group CAIR–the Council on American Islamic Relations–has repeatedly sent out e-mails cheering on an exaggerated claim that their numbers are far larger than those of Jews in America (and, therefore, their logic goes, America should change its policy on Israel), Pew says otherwise on that, too.
The Pew survey finds that 1.7 percent of Americans–or nearly THREE TIMES the number of Muslims–are Jews. That’s 5.1 million Jews versus the 1.8 million Muslims. Don’t expect to get an e-mail from CAIR touting those statistics. As with everything else, they lie–in geometrically-multiplied terms–about everything: their alleged 9 million versus an actual 1.8 million.
I’m not one who believes America’s foreign and domestic policies should ever be the result of critical mass of one group versus another. It should be a result of our moral high ground and sound policy in defeating our enemies.
But since Muslims use as their main–and frankly, only–argument that their numbers mandate officeholders’ and businesses’ adherence to their extremist views, Pew says that–at least for now–they’ve lost that argument, as well.
As they continue to use multiple wives solely as baby factories within our borders, to immigrate legally without limit, and to sneak into our country illegally, their numbers may change and grow–unless we do something about it.
But for now, their noise is far louder than their actual numbers.
The high volume of Muslim whining versus the actual Muslim presence . . . two different things in America. And the distinction is important.
***
Another important point: Yes, it is, indeed, notable that 16.1% of Americans aren’t religious. Where atheism is more dominant and Christianity less so, Islam seizes upon the opening and fills the void. That’s why we see “Eurabia” (the term coined by author Bat Ye’or, as the title of her excellent book).
But 78.4% of Americans are still Christian. And that, if anything, will be the shield to the takeover of America by Islam. Wherever there is a strong, dominant Christian presence, Islam is thwarted.
Sadly, far too many Christians (and liberals dominant among my fellow co-religionists) are giving in to the ceaseless demands and forays of Islam in America.

The number of Americans who describe themselves as atheist or agnostic has doubled since the year 2000.

As an Orthodox Christian I do not see the Islamic pandering in our sect. Many of us are from Syria, Lebanon and some are Palestinian. We worship hand in hand with Greeks, Russian and Serbs. We have full understanding of the Islamic goal of a world wide Caliphate and the destruction of the Jew and Christian (the infidel). As Christians we believe in the state of Israel and according to our belief, we are Zionists. Also have not run into “anti-Israel bantering” with Roman Catholics and Evangelical Christians (please excuse Jimmy Carter, dementia can be cruel to whom ever is afflicted). However, what is puzzling is the position that the Methodists and Episcopalians have taken. It is perplexing. Of this you are correct.
Our Patriah and the Pope have been somewhat vocal. I would like to see more U.S. clergy give their opinions relative to the Islamic threat, this includes Rabbis, from whom we rarely hear from. They should be as loud as Nasarella.
GWB believes that by being a good Christian he will win over the Jihadists. He needs an honest advisor who will tell him that when he turns the other cheek – the Muslim will stab him again. He and his family have allowed the duplicit Saudis much too much headway into the USA. Also his recent, what I perceive anti Israel stance was to pacify the Saudis, and Iranians to an extent.
I pray that the next time Hezbollah decides to attack Israel, that Israel puts aside the American political correctness stance and reverts back several decades and truly defends itself. Knowing the Jihadists, a severe beating will have them licking their wounds and blaming themselves for years. That will translate into years of peace.
Finally, Iraq – I believe leave today. Democracy and Islam is like Apples and Oranges. Let the Shia and Sunni continue their 1000 year battle. This may also draw Iran and the Saudis into the conflict. Peace for the West for a generation..
I’d like to see more U.S. Jews put pressure on the liberal pro Muslim newsmedia. When I meet a Jew who claims that Obama or Hillary is the answer….I pray for his/her enlightenment.

[ARA: WHILE I’M GLAD YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THINGS AND SEE THE LIGHT, THE FACT IS THAT GREEK ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS IN THE MID-EAST ARE AMONG THE BIGGEST PANDERERS TO ISLAM AND ISLAMIC TERRORISM ON THE PLANET. GEORGE HABASH? THE PFLP FOUNDER, HE WAS GREEK ORTHODOX. DITTO FOR HIS PFLP DEPUTY. OR HOW ‘BOUT THE MANY PAST GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH LEADERS IN ISRAEL WHO’VE SUPPORTED HAMAS HOMICIDE BOMBINGS AND THE ONE WHO WAS CAUGHT TRANSPORTING HOMICIDE BELTS TO PALESTINIAN TERRROISTS? THE CURRENT LEADER OF THE GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH IN ISRAEL IS, AT LAST, A GOOD GUY. BUT HE’S THE FIRST IN A LONG TIME WHO IS. I WISH EVERYONE IN YOUR CHURCH WERE AS ENLIGHTENED AS YOU. DS]

That just means your chances of being murdered directly by a Jihadi have fallen 50% 😛

This number of 1.8m is even fewer than the 2.3m that Pew came out with in 2005

Also, from the unaffiliated section, what’s the difference between Atheistic vs Secular unaffiliated on one hand, and Agnostic vs Religious unaffiliated on the other? I’d imagine that the only difference between Secular and Religious unaffiliated is their POLITICAL POV – secular would be more athiest like, pro-Left, while ‘religious’ would mean more pro-right, but not anti-religious. But how can one be ‘religious’ without being affiliated to a religion? Just by references to a nebulous ‘God’, without being specific as to whether it’s Jewish, Christian, Shinto, Sikh, et al?

In your response to ARA, you seem to be talking about what Hugh Fitzgerald calls ‘Islamo-Christians’ i.e. those ethnically Arab Christians who recognize that Islam provides the underpinnings of Arab supremacy, and who therefore tend to be pro-Islamic in order to further their Arabness. Examples are Habash, Michel Aflack, Hanan Ashrawi, Naeem Ateek, Tariq Aziz, among others.
I believe that a good section, if not a majority, of Copts and Maronites are on the same page as ARA.
[IP: NO, THIS IS AN ORGANIZED ANTI-ISRAEL SENTIMENT ATOP THE GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH AND RAMPANT IN ITS MID-EASTERN ADHERENTS AND LEADERS. AS FOR THE MARONITES, MOST ARE GOOD, BUT A GOOD NUMBER ARE NOT, SUCH AS THE FOLLOWERS OF MICHEL AOUN, WHO ARE ALLIED WITH NASRALLAH AND HEZBOLLAH. AS FOR COPTS, THEY HAVE BEEN AMONG THE BIGGEST ANTI-SEMITES AND OPPRESSORS OF JEWS IN EGYPT AND ELSEWHERE, SECOND TO THE MUSLIMS. IT’S IRONIC THAT WHILE COPTS FIND THEMSELVES OPPRESSED AND PERSECUTED BY MUSLIMS, THAT HASN’T STOPPED THEM FROM ANTI-SEMITISM OR JOINING ISLAM IN ATTACKING JEWS OVER THERE. DS]

LFMAO. This doesn’t surprise me at all. Militant advocacy groups are famous for inflating their percentages in order to gain special rights and political pandering. Kind of like how militant homosexual advocacy groups laughably claim homosexuals make up 10% of the population, when available data suggests they make up between 1 and 4% o the population. That militant Islamists do the same thing is hardly suprising at all. We live in a society of victimhood, where the squeaky wheel (or in this case louder, dramatic, or more obnoxious victim) gets the grease. These lies you exposed are quite effective at furthering their cause.

“I believe that a good section, if not a majority, of Copts and Maronites are on the same page as ARA.”
If you are trying to suggest that most Copts and Marionites are sympathetic to Islamic terrorists, you are pretty off base. I live in Cleveland, where there is a huge Lebanese Christian population. Most of the Lebanese Christians I know hate Muslim groups such as Hezbollah, etc. Many of these people were driven from their homes in Lebanon by these nefarious Muslim terrorist groups. The Lebanese Christians I know tend to all wear large gold crosses on the outside of their shirts to differentiate themselves from the Muslims.
Across the street from where I go to law school is a Lebanese owned Deli. The place is adorned by American flags and posters of patriotic slogans. The Lebanese workers who run it wear “Support our Troops” shirts daily. I was talking with one of the guys during the summer of ’06 about how he felt about the bombing by Israel, and he was upset they didn’t finish the job off.

JasonBourne81 on February 26, 2008 at 2:48 pm

This is of little surprise as Israel has encountered the same problem with the artificially high population numbers of the vermin there in the West Bank territories. The liberals in the government are complacent with this conspiracy so they can ram their anti-Jew policies through.

warpmine on February 26, 2008 at 2:54 pm

What??? There are only 1/3 as many Muslims as Jews??
So then the fact that there are three times as many crimes against Jews as there are against Muslims makes perfect statistical sense!
Of course the fact that there are equal numbers of Jews and Atheists doesn’t explain why so few crimes are recorded as being against Atheists!
“84% of statistics are made up on the spot” Vic Reeves.
When asked how he knew this Mr.Reeves replied that it was the 100th time he had been asked, and the 84th time he had lied!

eliXelx on February 26, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Wow! According to the report, there are more U.S. Buddhists than Muslims. Couldn’t have guessed that.

Mike on February 26, 2008 at 2:59 pm

I am guessing there are even more Jews. The problem lies in the enthnic v religion distinction.

And on the 1st Muslim POTUS:
Shmuel Rosner, Haaretz’s analyst of the US elections, posed this question: “Imagine Benjamin Netanyahu — the chairman of the Likud Party and according to all recent polls the leading candidate to become the next Israeli Prime Minister — saying something along the lines of: ‘There are people who claim that I need to accept a Democratic nominee as friendly toward Israel — but this is not necessarily true, as I think the policies of the Republican Party are much wiser.’ Imagine him saying this – and the outrage that would follow such statement.”
The comment, Rosner observes, raises doubts as to whether Obama could get along with a Likud-led Israel.
Ironically, Obama supporters have been objecting to the tendency of Israelis to meddle in American politics, specifically when anonymous sources in the Israeli government expressed “concern” concerning an Obama administration. They were outraged when former Israeli ambassador to Washington Danny Ayalon expressed “doubt” regarding Obama’s positions and honesty when it comes to views regarding Israel.

Jewish and Mormons are both 1.7! While Muslim’s are only 0.6…
Let me get this straight…
11 hijackers kill 3000 Americans, result: America must pander to Muslims or be seen as racists, and must vote for B. Hussain Obama – or else!
While the LDS are permanently made outsiders until seen as ‘useful’ but cannot be elected to the Presidency, and treated as a sub-human cult!

Interestingly, only 0.2% of prisoners in American correctional facilities describe themselves as atheists.
We’re a law-abiding bunch.

The funniest or maybe saddest part of the Muslim in America thing is well over 90% of Domestic born followers of Allah are convicts and x cons. Shows a lot for the religion wen they do their best recruiting inside the walls of Americas Prisons. Now that is with out a doubt a religion I want to join. The problem is especially where I live is that the 9/11 Pieces of crap lived here (Vero Beach) So there is nothing they can do to re-earn our trust. For the most part we have run them out of our city. We do not want them here, and since this is still the United States of America and not the United Scumbags of Allah. we will continue to live they way we want and not be forced into bowing to a religion and way of life we do not believe in.
