Fashion Tips by Meghan McCain: The Garb of Jihad

By Debbie Schlussel

Almost two months ago, NBC Nightly News ran a silly story about the Presidential candidates’ daughters. The female offspring of John Edwards, Mike Huckabee, and John McCain were interviewed by former “Entertainment Tonight” reporter Maria Menounos.

All of the daughters sounded polished, well-coached by campaign superiors, and professional. All, that is, except Meghan McCain, the bleach-blonde daughter of John McCain. While Huckabee’s and Edwards’ daughters spoke of their pride in their fathers and their enthusiasm on the campaign trail, Meghan McCain whined about criticism she faced over her make-up and fashion tips on her campaign blog. She said that it’s important to be a girl and that her tips were good ones. Judging from the gobs of make-up she wears, that’s debatable.

And judging by her latest choice in fashions, it’s beyond debatable. The case is closed. Liberal site Gawker reports (and shows pics, posted below) of Meghan McCain’s jihadist choice of accessories. She’s taken to sporting a keffiyeh, the Arabic male headscarf around her neck.

Although throughout Mid-East history Jews and Christians have also at times sported that scarf, that’s no longer the case. In the Hebrew picture book, “Ani Kurdi [I Am a Kurd]” (part of my late father’s book collection), there are many charming photos of Kurdish Jews (who later emigrated to Israel), wearing keffiyehs. But even as they wore those, others who wore them oppressed them and their fellow Kurds. They gave up that “accessory” of oppression as they were thrown out of Iraq by Saddam Hussein and made a new life in Israel. But their oppressors continue to wear it as part of the uniform of terror.

The keffiyeh has become the symbol of jihad, and it’s no coincidence that in many beheading videos or other fierce displays of Islamic murder and violence, the warriors hide behind the keffiyeh. This isn’t “just clothing.” Wearing a keffiyeh is really no different than sporting a swastika or a white hood. The media would have a fit if a prospective First daughter wore those.
It’s a disgusting display that Ms. McCain would sport this garb of torture and murder and death and inhumanity. She shouldn’t be giving out fashion tips, when it’s quite clear she needs some, herself. Either she is extremely ignorant or she is deliberately donning this (less likely of the two). Either way, it’s disturbing. And it’s a far cry from even the partying, drunken Bush twins. Meghan McCain says on her site that she worked for Newsweek and “Saturday Night Live.” So she doesn’t know what news or humor is. But this fully grown adult should know better than to don a keffiyeh.

Even from a fashion perspective, these jihadi keffiyeh scarves are out. They were in in the mid-to-late ’80s, when I was in college. Since then, they’re really only worn by drug users, homeless people, and other parties who still wear acid-washed jeans. Although stores like “Urban Outfitters” and magazines like the now-defunct “JANE” have tried to push the keffiyehs as a rebounding trend, they’re still not in. And they’re not in despite the fact that a few misguided male foreign celebs have donned them, including–on several occasions!–Colin Farrell.

Again, the keffiyeh is the garb of death and destruction and emptiness. And that’s never hip.

Meghan McCain . . . badly in need of a fashion makeover. The Islamic Terror Scarf . . . badly in need of torching, along with everything it has come to represent.

What she could use is a jilbab – the head to toe black klanswear that would hide the need for all that make-up and everything else.

Greetings:
I remember buying one of those Arab head dresses at the open air market in Beersheba.
I even wore it a couple of times.
It didn’t have the Palestinian pattern, but was plain white, with a black cord to hold it in place.
I don’t know what happened to it.
I had it for years, but now I don’t have it anymore.
I also bought a souvenir Arab dagger at that same market in Beersheba, too.
My brother-in-law has the dagger.
I think after all these years, I only have two souvenirs of Israel.
One is an antique Persian sword, and the other is a certificate from visiting King David’s tomb.
Both are displayed on the wall of my room here at the Ol’ Soldiers’ Home.
Thank you.

I wonder if either Senator McCain, or his wife, have any idea of the keffiyah’s present day significance.
Given that the Senator believes our foe in this poorly named ‘War on Terror’ is ‘radical Islamic extremists’ (every day, run of the mill moderate Islamic extremists posing no threat apparently) it’s doubtful.

It appears that Meghan McCain is cut from the same mold as Amy Carter and Patti Davis (Reagan’s pain-in-the-ass, left-wing, whacked-out daughter). For that matter, I guess you can also say she’s following in Ronald Reagan Jr.’s footsteps, as well.
But, she’ll be the darling of the media as she embarrasses he father should he be elected.

Well I knew this would happen. And I had a small crush on her too….

Another reason NOT to vote for RINO McCain. Pretty wife and daughter though.

Why didn’t Elanor Roosevelt wear Jack boots, or Lady Bird Johnson wear VC PJs?
What a load of crap.

Hmm, would I want my 11-year-old daughter to wear Abercrombie & Fitch’s thong underwear designed specificially for pre-teens or the keffiyeh? I think the keffiyeh. I’ve seen countless university students in the UK wearing the keffiyeh as a scarf just like they wear T-shirts of Che, the American flag, Rush, Rosie the Riveter, or “CCP” from the old Soviet Union. Does that make a statement that they sympathize with terrorists, pedophiles, neoconservatives, working women or the commies? No, it means that they want to look cool wearing it. Don’t give us nonsense that this means anything other than a fashion statement. Stick to what you do best. Photoshoping silly stuff.

13 martyrs should go continue his 10th prayer of the day. This daughter is about as uninformed about the symbolism of that clothing as her father probably is. She looks like a goth kid with all the makeup. She probably thinks it makes her look compassionate, like Rick Springfield in that dumb tshirt.

But folks, it’s ether this….or the real life professor tomoe (sorry, another sailor moon reference) known as Barrack Obama.

Debbie’s eyebrows are TOO PLUCKED and her makeup too monochromatic – she looks like a younger version of MOM.
I’d say she needs a bit of help herself!

Would Chelsea Clinton be accepted if she were to don a white hood? This keffiyeh is just as offensive to those that it touches most. Personally, neither one bothers me, but I wasn’t affected by either. If you consciously sport either, then you are being offensive. The candidates ought to know better than to let their kids wear this crap.
Like they told Hillary, if you can’t control your own family, how do you expect to control the nation?

I went to the link provided and scrolled through several pages of Meghan’s Blog and was surprised by what I found, and what I didn’t.
Meghan has the help of Shannon and Heather … this is not a bad thing. It just makes me wonder what it is she does to produce her own Blog. OK, she provides her play list, but the one picture I found with a caption saying ‘updating the Blog’ is of Shannon sitting behind the lap top.
I thought there would be more casual pictures of the McCain family. Yes, there were a few and the series of the McCains in the hotel window was more of what I had hoped to see.
Meghan did not include any pictures of her deployed brother, and that is easily understood. Her younger brother, a midshipman at the Naval Academy, stepped in and provided some input to the Blog when she was ill. There were even a number of formal pics of her grandmother, Nana.
The thing that I found odd was the abscence of pics of her sister. Well, there was one, but it was of her sister’s back. There were far more pics of Shannon and Meghan, and Heather and Meghan, than there were of Meghan and her sister. There were more captioned identifiable pics of the bus driver than of her sister.
Certainly Meghan’s younger sister could be shy and requested not to be part of the Blog. However, that should be explained in some manner.
Yes, the scarf thing raises questions. Not having more of her sister in the Blog just makes me go … Hmmmmm.

Just goes to show you money doesn’t buy taste. Her mother looks like a Barbie doll. I think Cindy could go the Grace Kelly route and come across much classier than she does now. I like the chignon hair style rather than the 60s beehive, too 😉 But as I said first, money does NOT buy taste! Both mother and daughter exude the aura of $$$$ if nothing else 😉

CapeConservative on February 26, 2008 at 10:45 am

I just visited her blog and I was impressed. She comes across very well. Squirrel3D, you can continue with your crush.
Granted the scarf accessory should be tossed, but otherwise I thought the YouTube snippets I watched were good. Will take back previous comment about lack of taste, perhaps plain old common sense could have prevailed in her neck accessory…she certainly has an abundance of different scarves from which to choose. I do agree the keffiyeh is highly inappropriate dress for a US presidential campaign. Let’s hope she tosses it in the back of her closet and doesn’t bring it out again for many years. Perhaps then she will realize what a silly girl she was to have jeopardized her father’s chance to become president.
It does appear that the “hair” thing applies equally to mother & daughter…up, down, back, capped – they probably enjoy the different styles, but I still would go with a more classic style for our (hopefully) next First Lady 😉

C’MON DEB!! THIS CAMPAIGN IS BIZARRE ENOUGH WITHOUT BRINGING ANOTHER CLOWNFACE INTO THE FRAME!
I dont know if I can take it, the whole weirdworld of these nutbag chicks all over the damn place. Its almost impossible to watch Fox anymore and it makes me fell like even more of an old lecher trying to stay focussed.
Is this the future men are going to live in?
I guess its always been this way and I have just finally grown up enough to notice..

BJ1949,
“You and Coulter had a chance to originally put your support behind genuine Conservatives like Duncan Hunter and/or Mike Huckabee, but chose to deliberately ignore them, giving zero attention to Duncan, which forced him out of the running, and almost did Huckabee as well. This was the identical tactic used by Socialist Democrats. I got to admit I don’t want to vote for McCain, but thanks to you guys, you’ve left us with no other option! You both began trashing McCain from the beginning, but now you have really lowered your standards by resorting to attacking his Daughter.”
You are right. I was strong Duncan Hunter supporter. They shouldv’e have supported him. I’m still angry about it. But Debbie is right also. She wrote about Mc Cains heroic service to our country. But now he dishonons everything he suffered for in Vietnam. Debbie tried to support Mc Cain. So did I. But it’s Mc Cain. He has a cold heart. No respect for our the rule of law and American Sovereignity. The guy hates his own country to give it over to illegal aliens, going “green”, and desire to “micromange Israel”, and grovel like Obama to our Iran. His snickering about what he intentends to do this nation makes him no better than Barack “Hussein” Obama. This makes him a repugnant candidate. I don’t want to vote for this man.
I will vote for almost any third party conservitive Republican candidate over Mc Cain. Except Ron Paul. I’d never vote for Obama. Mc Cain’s arrogant snicking on open borders and going green is sicking. Best friends with La Raza.I can’t take this man. What true Conservative wants vote for this this clown?
Debbie is right. She sees like rest of us true Conservatives. We are not going to grovel at Mc Cain’s feet. Besides. He has no chance of winning. Nobody wants him. So what. At least true conservatives will have some integrity, dignity, and back bone. This thinking Mc Cain is so great hope is pathetic.
(my opinion, my heart)

Meghan McCain has evolved into a real tool, or some would say, a useful idiot. She’s all over the political map, for and against different causes. Like who really gives a rats-ass what her juvenile opine is. Had McCain been elected POTUS, she’d been a real pain in the butt.
