How Muslims Celebrate Victory: Egypt’s “Peaceful, Moderate, Democratic” Protesters

By Debbie Schlussel

*** UPDATE #2: David Horowitz’s Blogger Employees Praised Anti-Semitic, Holocaust-Denying Muslim Death, Rape, and Torture Threats, (But Upset About Lara Logan Column on Islam)  ***

*** UPDATE, 02/16/11: The reaction of the left to this article is funny in its predictability. Sooo damn predictable. Of course I don’t support “sexual assault” or violence against Lara Logan, and I said that nowhere here. RIF–Reading Is Fundamental. Your premature articulation is a problem. I did say that it warms my heart when reporters who openly deny that Islam is violent and constantly promote it get the same kinds of threats of violence I get every day from Muslims. Because now they know how it feels. They aren’t so dismissive of the threats when those threats are directed at them, instead of at us little people. And yet they still won’t admit that THIS. IS. ISLAM. Lara Logan was among the chief cheerleaders of this “revolution” by animals. Now she knows what Islamic revolution is really all about.

I’ve received many moronic insults and threats of violence from the left in the hours since I posted this, showing me more and more that there is very little difference between the left and the dominant, violent, fanatical forces in Islam. In fact, there’s really no difference at all. They are all in need of rehab. My favorite part of all of the responses is their common claim that the “real rapists” of the world are white males and American soldiers. Uh-uh, you keep telling yourself that, as you live here under the protection of American soldiers. Riiiight–It’s not Muslims who don’t respect women and treat them as baby factories, sex toys, and property. It’s America and the West. You keep tellin’ yourself that, morons.****

As I’ve noted before, it bothers me not a lick when mainstream media reporters who keep telling us Muslims and Islam are peaceful get a taste of just how “peaceful” Muslims and Islam really are. In fact, it kinda warms my heart.  Still, it’s also a great reminder of just how “civilized” these “people” (or, as I like to call them in Arabic, “Bahai’im” [Animals]) are:

Alhamdillullah [Praise allah], Islam Fan Lara Logan Gets a Taste of Islam

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a “60 Minutes” story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

Hey, sounds like the threats I get from American Muslims on a regular basis. Now you know what it’s like, Lara.

There will be no further comment from CBS News and Correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.

I just love it when the people of the profession of “the public’s right to know” suddenly want “privacy.” Tell it to your next interview subject, Lara. Of course CBS has no further comment. Wouldn’t wanna impugn the “peacefulness” of “Religion of Peace” animals, would we? Now, if they were Christians or Jews, well, then there would be comments galore.

So sad, too bad, Lara. No one told her to go there. She knew the risks. And she should have known what Islam is all about. Now she knows. Or so we’d hope. But in the case of the media vis-a-vis Islam, that’s a hope that’s generally unanswered.

This never happened to her or any other mainstream media reporter when Mubarak was allowed to treat his country of savages in the only way they can be controlled.

Now that’s all gone. How fitting that Lara Logan was “liberated” by Muslims in Liberation Square while she was gushing over the other part of the “liberation.”

Hope you’re enjoying the revolution, Lara! Alhamdilllullah [praise allah].

Not sure if this can be blamed on Islam.
I remember an attack in New York of some girls during an Italian Day (or something like that).
I am more inclined to think it was group think.
That being said, I believe that if the woman doesn’t wear the veil (in some countries) she is entitled to be assaulted.

Dave on February 16, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Doesn’t wear the veil? This sort of comment shows just how ill-informed the debate has become in the US. *Most* Egyptian women do not wear the veil.

Peter on February 16, 2011 at 12:49 pm

I said ‘in some countries,’ you numbskull.
And they don’t wear the veil in Egypt..just wait a few years and it’l look just like Iran.
I agree that Islam is a gutter religion invented by a pedophile but this is not an example of that.

dave on February 16, 2011 at 4:27 pm

Yep, the predictable, adolescent LEFT.

How boring and predictable they all are.

This thread went down the crapper long ago.

Glad and proud to see it the way DS does.

You are a disgusting excuse for a woman. One day karma is going to bite you squarely on the ass.

I hope the public is kinder to you than you’ve been to this woman.

Fuck you Debbie for being an insensitive bitch.

“oh no, you can’t say that without condemning the rapists because despite that not being the point of your post, YOU HAVE TO STATE THE OBVIOUS BECAUSE I’M TOO FUCKING STUPID TO REALIZE EVERYONE CONDEMNS THE RAPISTS AUTOMATICALLY!!!1!1!!1!!”

David on February 16, 2011 at 12:45 pm

Generalizations about Muslims, Arabs, etc. is always an easy game and weak. But blaming the victim in the Logan attack is eally beyond the pale.

Mike Sampat (yamfood) on February 16, 2011 at 12:51 pm

I have to agree with you. Debbie regardless of your political belief what kind of woman would write this stuff. This was not about politics, it was about a reporter being attacked. It is not about left or right, it is about right or wrong. What if this were your daughter, mother, sister, etc. Are politics that important to you that you have lost your sense of decency, morality, integrity. Your blog shows what is wrong with America, we let politics blind us about what is common sense and morality. Sadly you would be a person who would try and use the Bible to justify your comments and beliefs. Karma is a bitch, it really is.

Sharri on February 16, 2011 at 2:50 pm

“How fitting that Lara Logan was “liberated” by Muslims in Liberation Square while she was gushing over the other part of the “liberation.””

Yeah, sure sounds like you don’t support sexual assault against women. Guess I just can’t read! In other news Debbie, you can come out of your fantasy land where only those nasty lefties are the ones who think mocking a sexual assault victim is wrong. Oh wait, it must be liberal conspiracy by the main stream media (funded by George Soros no less) to soil your good name! If only the people knew the truth!

Dan on February 16, 2011 at 12:54 pm

To be clear, you stated that, “when mainstream media reporters…get a taste of just how “peaceful” Muslims and Islam really are. In fact, it kinda warms my heart.” The “taste” that Lara Logan got was a brutal rape and physical assault. You directly state that this warmed your heart.

You go on to say, “sounds like the threats I get from American Muslims on a regular basis. Now you know what it’s like, Lara.” Are you attempting to equate being threatened via email or phone (i.e., from a distance) with being physically victimized?

As someone who reads quite carefully, I suggest you apply your “reading is fundamental” logic to your writing. You wrote that Lara’s victimization warmed your heart, and then likened it to your own experience sitting comfortably in the safety of your home and office, reading angry letters. Since you lack the intelligence or perception to write with any organization or semblance of grammar, I will assume these horrifying statements are the result of your stupidity rather than a complete lack of humanity.

Then again, maybe you really are a monster.

How’s this for a headline: “How Catholics Respond to an Earthquake”? http://articles.latimes.com/2011/feb/04/world/la-fg-haiti-women-20110204

Dave in Boise on February 16, 2011 at 12:57 pm

What? Check your link. Haitian women are being raped in the lawlessness that followed the earthquake. How can you connect Catholicism to this?

Terry on February 16, 2011 at 1:42 pm

Muslims are wicked indeed. They’re rapists, murderers, and terrorists who do not deserve even a semblance of freedom and democracy. Dictators like Mubarek are all that stand between freedom loving Americans and feral Muslims. NOT.

You say you don’t support “sexual assault” (love how you put that in quotes as if its a made up thing) but you do write its FITTING that she was “liberated” by Egyptians. Maybe learn to read a little yourself, especially your own blog entries, before you attack others on their reading skills. RIF. By the way, there were 95 thousand rapes in the US in 2010. By your logic, Americans, like the Egyptians, need a dictator to suppress our animal instincts.

You, and other fear mongering racists, are exactly the reason why I’ve lost all hope that conservatives can bring any substantial ideas to helping this country. People like you spend more time looking for anecdotal evidence to support your delusions than suggesting real reform to help the United States. So please, learn to read, write, and research before you contribute any more ideas to the world.

Nir Rosen and Debbie Schlussel should meet for drinks.

msemj on February 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Honestly who’s a bigger savage? The crowd that assaulted and harassed Lara, or you, the dumb white bitch sitting at home laughing at your peer’s misfortune? Says something about you and that dickwad Rosen doesn’t it?

Joe on February 16, 2011 at 1:09 pm

Don’t assume all to vitriol against you is coming from the left, Debbie. To take this horrible event and spin it for your own devices is atrocious and shrugging off the response as “typical Left” is deflecting and defensive. You HAVE condoned sexual assault through your own outpouring of schadenfreude. I hope her rape has soothed your troubled ego, Debbie, and the sensationalist statements you’ve made brings all the attention you so obviously crave. Maybe when you get over yourself, you’ll realize Ann Coulter isn’t a role-model to emulate.

Nicole on February 16, 2011 at 1:10 pm

Oh, hey, I have another headline: “How Christians Celebrate the Day Before Lent” http://www.flickr.com/photos/jpallan/353067341/

(Seattle, USA 2001–photo may be NSFW)

Dave in Boise on February 16, 2011 at 1:11 pm

I must say I find it funny how an entire religion will be condemned for the actions of a few. I follow no religion and I have no political affiliation, yet I study them to understand the way the mind reacts when culture influences certain actions. Now having been to an actual Islamic prayer service, I can tell you they are very inviting and cordial people.

Following the logic that because some Muslims are violent all must be violent, then all Christians must be violent because of the Crusades, all Republicans must be liars because of Richard Nixon lying, all democrats are liars because of Bill Clinton (or Obama as you will probably rail into) and all humans are cannibals because of Jeffrey Dahmer.

Now being rational I understand that none of these statements hold true. even a child taking the CAT tests understands this because of the “Some A are B and some B are C, therefore all A are C” test question. Take a few minutes to stop being worse than a child, do some actual research and then come back and post an intelligent article.

MykeSyko on February 16, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Debbie Schlussel is tone deaf and miopic at best, a fucking idiot at worst. The entwinement of a horrible personal sexual attack with Debbie’s personal views on, well, ANYTHING other than support for a victim is disturbing. Her commentary is the equivalent of verbal puke, is equally repugnant and worthy of avoidance.

What’s fascinating, though, is the digital soapbox that the internet has become. Now, any slob who knows HTML can pop their offensive little head out of their putrid little rabbit hole and spew streams of bile. Even worse, they revel in the disgust they provoke, because it equates to more and more “hits” on their website. Remember that shitty kid we all knew in high school who picked on everyone until someone finally beat the shit out of him? He (or in this case, her) now hires a little geek to code a website and barks at the world, trying to stir up as much of a shitstorm as possible.

Debbie will never admit it publicly, as she has a persona to nurture, as it brings home the bacon. But deep down, in that part which she only shows intimate friends or perhaps only keeps to herself, she knows she isn’t proud of how she’s responded to the Lara Logan assault. That seedling of thought will grow over time, until she realizes what many of us know, that she has become a whore who will do anything for money.

Jason Bowing on February 16, 2011 at 1:14 pm

Debbie, I just have a question for you. Do you have any idea what journalism is? I mean really? This is what you have been taught?
What you wrote just simply shows a big part of your personality. You in USA talk about democracy and human rights. Well do you apply that in your life? because really what you wrote does not show it.
If you will really talk about human rights, assaults and murders why don’t you check out what your army does in Afghanistan or Iraq?
What about the video on Wikileaks showing you army killing innocent unarmed citizens including CHILDREN? oh yeah i forgot, your country tried to cover their nasty shit up didn’t they? Just like they tried to cover up for all the cables released that was mostly about the States.
You know what, i really feel sorry for you because you are categorized as ignorant and you do not know what happens all around the world except what your government shows you. They simply treat you like puppets. They show you what they want to show you.
FYI, i study at an American University in Egypt, and i have many friends from all around the world, including American, Jews.. And guess what? I love them and they love me too. We are living in harmony because not everyone is bad cupcake. Your mum should have taught you that.
See, it is common sense, there are bad people everywhere, in all countries, with all kind of religions. Your former president Bush, was not a butcher? How manny muslims did he order to kill?
His so called war on Iraq under the pretext of clearing all nuclear weapons was nothing but bull crap. You killed many of them and it turned out there are no weapons at all and it simply shows how if a terrorist your president was.
Please, do not throw people’s with rocks if your own house is made out of glass honey.
P.S. Your impolite nasty language does not by any mean prove your point or your argument. It just sheds the light on your personality that is full of hatred.
When your country killed a lot of Muslims, we did not judge Christianity. In fact, in Egypt christians are our friends, i myself was raised in a Christian school. And if you were following our revolution, you would see pictures of Christian mass in our Liberty Square where Muslims were praying along with and you would see Christians protecting Muslims praying.
There are bad people everywhere but it does not by any mean undermine a religion or a race. That’s like ABC life which obviously did not learn. So yeah, i feel sorry for you.

Sara Hesham on February 16, 2011 at 1:18 pm

Ms. Schussel: you had an opportunity to initiate an intelligent discussion about sexual assault. Instead, you used the opportunity to wallow in the most basic and vile kind of bigotry possible. Calling an entire culture “animals” says so much about you as a person, and none of what is says is complimentary.

I have no doubt that Islamic cultures have a problem with women’s rights. I have no doubt that our culture has a similar problem, though it is not as intense and/or it takes different forms.

Your words indicate a level of hatred that is truly disturbing. Please see a therapist.

Shaun on February 16, 2011 at 1:18 pm

Even though I’m a Christian and a Republican, Debbie completely turns my stomach. I’m actually ashamed to have religion, gender, nationality, and political party in common with this creature. People like Debbie are ruining this country.

Sharon on February 16, 2011 at 1:31 pm

Nir Rosen’s Twitter comments were just as disgusting as Debbie’s hateful spew, but at least he realized he made a mistake and admitted it. Debbie’s whole schtick is about being a minor-league Coulter, so offensive BS isn’t something she’s going to apologize for — it’s the whole idea.

Also, it’s “alhamdulillah.” Pro tip: sarcastic bile works better when you look like you know at least a little bit about what you’re talking about.

http://www.41nbc.com/news/national-news/1341-female-soldiers-more-likely-to-be-raped-by-a-fellow-soldier-than-killed-by-enemy-fire

Oh well, I guess conservative Christians will be animals too, but maybe Debbie thinks we shouldn’t have the right to know about that.

Dale on February 16, 2011 at 1:34 pm

I thought that in the U.S. we had gotten past the old execuse of “she was raped because of the (way she dressed) (what she looked like) (where she was).” Obviously, Schlussel did not get past that point — she is stuck in some earlier decade where women were blamed for what men did to them.

The Egyptian men who assaulted Logan are no different from Christian or Hindu or atheist men who do the same thing — they are bad people who should be punished.

As for Logan not wishing to comment at this time, she owes no comments to anyone except maybe a law court, same as any other person who goes through such an ordeal.

morris21654 on February 16, 2011 at 1:40 pm

You can’t possibly be a woman and speak of rape this way. Then again, with the drag makeup, maybe you aren’t.

TM on February 16, 2011 at 1:40 pm

This is my first and last comment.
As long as you allow this type of person
online discussion,you legitimize her racism
If nobody comments back to her,she then

A Glorious Fool. She does not deserve comment.
I promise if people just ignore her,she will
end up like some crazed baglady pushing a trolley
full of cats thru the park ranting & raving.
Peace & love to all.

euro/ray on February 16, 2011 at 1:44 pm

I’m speechless and disgusted on the many levels of ignorance you just wrote Ms. Schlussel. If you wanted to commit career suicide, congrats you just did it.

Zuljin on February 16, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Debbie, you’re right. How dare Ms. Logan perform actual journalism, instead of sitting at a computer writing hateful things on topics about which she’s painfully ignorant!

And how could anyone have taken the following to indicate that you support her sexual assault?

“As I’ve noted before, it bothers me not a lick when mainstream media reporters who keep telling us Muslims and Islam are peaceful get a taste of just how “peaceful” Muslims and Islam really are.”

“So sad, too bad, Lara.”

“Hope you’re enjoying the revolution, Lara!”

And I’m certain you have plenty of examples, or even one, of her ‘cheerleading’ about the nature of Islam to back up the assertion, and were just too busy gloating over her rape to cite them. Because otherwise, you’d just be another conservative commentator coasting on her highly questionable looks and the masturbatory following they mysteriously attract.

Charlie on February 16, 2011 at 1:45 pm

You actually think it was “fitting” for this woman to be sexually assaulted??? Are you mad? I am sickened by your attitude of saying it was “fitting” for anyone to be sexually assaulted. I certainly hope you never bear or raise children. It would be tragic for you to parent a daughter.

Leah on February 16, 2011 at 1:45 pm

W on February 16, 2011 at 1:51 pm

Skzion, having a discussion with Fitz is a waste of time. This so-called “moderate”, like many other “moderates”, continues to bloviate about how above-it-all he is, because he is not inclined to one particular ideology. You see, taking a side is…beneath him.

The sarcasm defense was indeed ridiculous, especially since his next set of words to me addressed my username as a representation of my military “indoctrination”.

Hey Fitz, my prior duty in the military is what inspired me to utilize my username. Not that you would have any idea what military service and sacrifice is, apparently.

ICBMMan on February 16, 2011 at 1:52 pm

First of all, Debbie, I applaud your having a real comments section with real comments. It’s quite uncommon in the right blogosphere.

That said: somebody has (or somebodies have) said bad things to you, and you are just as injured as Lara Logan? Seriously? You are equating nasty comments on a blog (or even in person) to being raped by a crowd of 200? Really?

Well, then, in the interest of furthering your ability to write objectively and knowledgeably, may I respectfully suggest that the best thing for all concerned is that you be raped by a crowd of 200.

Because then, when you tell us that being raped is “exactly the same thing” as being insulted, we will know that you are being serious and truthful.

Until and unless that happens, you are just a disgusting, hateful, racist, misogynist, Islamophobic bitch.

David in NYC on February 16, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Debbie,

So, nobody other than Muslims (or other brownskinned “lesser breeds below the law”) ever commits rape?

You cannot be serious!

If that wasn’t bad enough, you blame Lara Logan for DOING HER JOB and reporting the news!

I guess women should only be allowed outside the house with a male escort – and should never be permitted to have “unladylike” jobs, like journalism?

You are pathetic!

Gregory A. Butler on February 16, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Debbie, you are… beyond words.

It doesn’t matter whether you are from the Right or the Left, when a woman is raped by a mob you could be a little supportive, keep your meanness to yourself at the very least. This issues goes beyond religion. Islam is most definitely not the ideal religion – hell, some things they do makes me very angry, the way they treat women, for instance.

But Islam never ordered the men to rape foreign women. If it turned out that the men who raped her belong to the 10% Christian minority, would you blame Christianity on it? Because Christians rape just as well, and I don’t see you calling them “animals.”

The revolution in Egypt was to attain some real democracy. Which is what the US troops were trying to do in Irak, too. Do *you* support democracy, Debbie? Or are the “animals” in Egypt not worth it? (Egypt has Christians, Sikh and Jews as well, by the way).

This post makes it quite clear that you lack any kind of empathy or kindness, or that it is reserved only for those with the same political beliefs. Which is a shame, because the fact that we’re human beings – even the fact that we’re from the same country – should come before.

My thoughts go with Lara Logan. I have both agreed and disagreed with her before, but nevertheless I hope she will recover.

Gabby on February 16, 2011 at 1:54 pm

Lara Logan, like all victims of this kind of crime or victims of terrible crimes in genereal, should be given respect no matter what their political beliefs. While you say Lara Logan was a cheerleader for the revolution, no matter what, she was actually doing something important instead of just commenting on the situation from the safety of home. Give reporters more credit for putting themselves out there even if you disagree with the situation. Your job isn’t hard, hers is so show a little respect.

Danny G on February 16, 2011 at 2:14 pm

Wow! I’m bowled over by your level of vitriol. Anyone with that amount of anger in them can hardly look at things objectively. What if the men who raped her were Mubarak supporters embittered after their leader had to step down and looking for someone to take out their anger on? Wouldn’t that cast a different light on the matter. As it happens, she and her team had already been targeted by the regime and detained so the regime’s thugs were definitely aware of her. Anyway, of all the ways to respond to those events, yours has been enlightening for readers only in so far as it has shown them how inhumane you are and how lacking in requisite journalistic skills.

Paul Gill on February 16, 2011 at 2:15 pm

Oh, and one more thing, Debbie. After seeing un-retouched photos of you from other sources online, you should update your picture at the top of the page. At least one chin is missing. Don’t feel bad, though. There are a lot of neck-flab fetishists out there.

Charlie on February 16, 2011 at 2:15 pm

Nir Rosen at least had a sense of shame and took responsibility for his words. Deb Schlussel insists that she was absolutely right and justified in saying that Logan’s rape warms her heart. This is the chief difference between a mensch and a chaleria.

As a student of history I remember that Islam and Christianity both are responsible for the murders of millions upon millions of inncoent people in the name of their respective gods. In fact Christians are at this moment murdering innocent gay people all over Africa in response to exhortations by American evanglicals advocating such murders. I do not believe that Jesus would have ever done anything like what you people do, so you have absolutely no moral high ground in the least. Both of these ‘religions’ are evil and should be eliminated from humanity for the sake of future generations-you and those like you are proof enough that getting rid of both of these ‘religions’ would be a great benefit for our species.
