Will This Broadcaster Get to Keep Her Job?: A “Philo-Semite” Who Never Met Me

By Debbie Schlussel
Um, why do left-dominated Jewish establishment groups keep trying to kiss the butts of those who hate them? They must love sado-masochism, which goes well with a side of Jewish guilt.
The latest is the Jewish Federation in Sacramento, California, which wants to “educate” complete dumbass-ette and KCRA 3 television traffic reporter Adrienne Bankert. The Sacramento Bee reports:

Bankert told a Christian organization on the California State University, Sacramento, campus that she has “never met a poor Jewish person ever in my life” and opined about how Jews founded Hollywood and were prominent in banking.

TV Reporter Adrienne Bankert: Miss Philo-Semite America

Like I said in the headline of this post, Adrienne Bankert never met me.
Yet, the Jewish community of Santa Barbara–instead of shunning her–wants to “educate” her. Puh-leeze. She doesn’t like us Hebes. Get a clue. That won’t change. It’s like thinking you’ve changed Mel Gibson’s mind. You haven’t. And you won’t.
No surprise that before she became an airhead anti-Semitic traffic reporter, she was an airhead anti-Semitic host of “educational” programming on Los Angeles’ PBS (Palestinian Broadcasting System) station, KLCS. Wonder what she was “educating” them about.
Think she’ll get the Don Imus/John Rocker/Al Campanis/Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder/Michael Richards treatment? Don’t bet on it. Minorities get away with this stuff (Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, etc.). The fact that you didn’t read about this anywhere but here (and I read about it, buried deep in an obscure news industry e-newsletter) tells you that she will get away with it. And already has.
And still, I will remain a poor Jewish person she never met. Pity. Not that I’d want to meet her.
Send her on a trip to suburban Detroit or New York, where she can meet plenty of Jews struggling to survive.
We are not all made of money, despite what the late Khalid Abdul Muhammad, a Farrakhan acolyte, said about Jews and jewelry and “Goldstein, Silverstein, and Rubinstein.”

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
Typical mindless idiocy from an affirmative action hire.
Here come the hand-wringers to provide re-education. This diversity hire isn’t worth the effort.
It would be nice if the blacks would acknowledge how much they owe Jews.

lexi on December 10, 2007 at 6:17 pm

Wasn’t it Gen. Brown who lost his job by saying something about the Jews controlling the banking industry?
I didn’t meet lower income American Jews until I was in the Army and those were from the East Coast. It is probably true that the California Jewish American community is, as a whole, solidly comfortable at least in the middle-class, mostly on the strength of their real estate appreciation which even the idiots have scored with in California’s metropolitan areas (translation: It doesn’t take a Jewish Genius to accumulate wealth in California).
She’s young and entitled to put her hand to the stove burner at least once.

Code7- do you realize that you can’t speak about a people as a single noun. You can’t say “the California Jews” are this or that. You didn’t meet any until you were in the army? So if you didn’t meet them, then there can’t be that many of them. What are you basing that on? Your opinion of the Jews in California? The whole point is, why do we need to make broad sweeping statements about groups of people? How about this- let’s all just consider people as individuals.

This brainless bimbo twit should visit Boro Park and Williamsburg in Brooklyn if she wants to meet large numbers of poor Jewish family who are on public assistance. Since she didn’t confine her statement to Americans, it is reasonable to assume that she extends her misinformation to Jews everywhere. Let her come to Israel where a significant percentage of Jews live in poverty — and poverty by Israeli standards is a lot poorer than poverty by American standards.
The Jewish communities of America need to be protesting loudly about this and she needs to be fired. But, neither will ever happen, because the larger society agrees with her and believes that all Jews are on top of the world. We see what justice white Christian males receive when they are victims of prejudice, so don’t hold out much hope for Jewish victims. Whitey and Hymie can’t be victims! They’re oppressors!

Um, Debbie, I just did some google searching on this topic and it appears that her intention, however misguided and based upon stereotypes, was to support the notion that God blesses His chosen people with material wealth, and that Christians will also be blessed in the same way for their devotion.
I agree that it was a foolish, not very well-thought out speech, but it would appear that she didn’t have Jew-hating motives. I think it is very important to take this into account.

AmericanJewess on December 11, 2007 at 2:49 am

I think that news ladie’s comments are just kind of minor league ignorant. Jews and others have bigger problems than some minor ignorant comment. Just my opinion, but I don’t think she even owes an apology, but needs to be be corrected and educated. The person committing a faux pas like this needs to learn a little sensitivity and the ones offended need to learn to be just a little less sensitive. We have a problem right now with people going nuts over the N word. Society has given the N word way too much power, and ignorant, foolish people are just itching to use it because they know the havoc that it causes when they do, and because people are always tempted by the forbidden.
People like the tv traffic reporter are going out of thier way to get caught up in stupidity when they talk about racial, ethnic or religious issues. They should leave that for the talk show hosts, etc.
By the way, I have a good friend who is a poor Jew. He makes his living as a state corrections officer and a carpenter. I have met a few others as well. Alot of non Jews don’t have that much opportunity to meet Jews, and the few that they do meet or become aware of are successful in business, the professions or entertainment, etc, so they might assume that this is how all Jews live. They probably don’t know about the poor Jews in Europe, Asia and Israel, either.
Maybe you should meet that woman, Debbie, and bring her up to speed on the real world.

Debbie got it right on this one..
No “education” required. The TV news bimbo has free speech rights, and that includes stupid speech.
She doesn’t care about Jews, and why does that upset everyone?
As Deb pointed out, PC forces us to give this broad a pass because–I guess–blacks just can’t help it, while countless others lose their jobs over careless remarks (even if they are true).
In this dumbed down age, PC is a substitute for the far more arduous process called rational thought.

I read more about her speech. She was speaking on how she felt those that are anointed by God should prosper both materially and professionally and she used the Jews as an example. That’s when she made the misguided comment about never meeting a poor Jewish person.
Here’s more of what she said:
Bankert said she, herself, is a Jew in Jesus’ name.
“I’m a Jewish person, because I’m saved by the blood of Jesus. He is Jewish, and I want what he’s got for me.”
Lexi mocks her as an “affirmative action” hire, as if all other info-babes are Mensa members. She’s just young, foolish, full of Christian zeal, but not sophisticated enough yet to articulate her beliefs in a theologically correct manner. She needs to live a little more, travel more, and gain more knowledge and wisdom. Hopefully some Jewish folks will help educate the sister, and as a Christian woman, I’m sure she’d be open to it. Other than racial background, I have no idea what Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Khalid Abdul Muhammad and such have to with her or her situation any more than they had to do with Ann Coulter’s recent comments on Jews.
And how her misguided comments can be put in the same category as Michael Richards hateful tirade, I do not know. I can see a comparison with Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder’s situation (careless commentary but not mean-spirited), but that’s about it, so I don’t see it as a case of “minorities getting away with stuff” and “blacks just can’t help it”. If speaking out strongly for your Christian beliefs is a case of us not being able to “help it”, then I pray more of us “can’t help it”, especially with the rising international tide of fundamentalist Islam and the new “atheism chic” that’s spreading across America. And as far as being a Jew, if her ancestors are from western Africa, there is a great chance she does have a Semitic lineage as a result of the Jewish diaspora and the scattering of the 12 tribes, but that’s another topic entirely!

JibberJabber on December 11, 2007 at 11:01 am

Maybe she never met a poor Jew because Jews believe in self help and not the welfare entitlement mentality.

Ripper on December 11, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Best punishment would be to keep her in Sacramento reporting traffic for the rest of her life–how’s that carjacking incident on the 99 affecting traffic sweetheart?

NiceBoychik4ShaynaSchlussel on December 11, 2007 at 1:18 pm

Maybe I’m missing something here, but what is so offensive about what this lightweight said?
That she has never met a poor person in her life? Yeah, so, this is a good thing, right? I’ve never met a “poor” Jewish person in the United States either. Do some exist? I’m sure they do (mostly among recent immigrants). But Jews are successful in this country because they are smart, work hard, and practice self-reliance and communal responsibility. Unlike this woman’s “community.”
Pointing out that there are “poor” Jews, just like poor blacks — NOT — hardly is an argument I want to support in this rhetorical contest. Poverty is not a good thing, and does not demonstrate “virtue” or “merit.” Leave the whiny victimhood to the other minority groups.
Now, Debbie, how could someone with your brains, beauty, and rhetorical flair be “poor”? If you truly are “poor,” you’re not trying hard enough to make money. 😉

When I around six years old I remember the minister at my church telling the kids in my Sunday School class to, “Watch how you carry myself and speak in public, because you are not your own….the weight of a whole race rest on your shoulders. Unfair or not, that’s the way it is.”
I didn’t know what he meant at the time, but I sure see it now. For example, I still have NO idea what this woman’s misinformed Christian testimonial comments about Jews have to do with her being Black or the “Black community”, but that seems to be the focus of most of the commentators. No one has attacked her as an American and a Christian for making these centuries-old stereotypical remarks about Jews, but they definitely made some snide remarks about her racial community. Funny I heard no one making any snide remarks about “the White community” when Ann Coulter and Mel Gibson made their rather controversial statements about Jews. Why? Because just as in the case of Ms. Bankert, their race had nothing to do with their comments.
For many of these commentators, all Debbie has to do is put a Black face on a story and they automatically put a negative racial spin on it….sounds just like the antics of Al Sharpton. As much as folks complain about him, I guess Rev. Al does indeed have his like-minded counterparts in other so-called “communities”.

JibberJabber on December 11, 2007 at 6:43 pm

As far as the Hollywood comments go, I refer you all to Neal Gabler’s AN EMPIRE OF THEIR OWN. For modern references, just google what the three initials in DreamWorks SKG stand for.
As far as banking goes — oh, forget it. What more is there to say, after all, in an article that rages against stereotyping, than this gem: “Minorities get away with this stuff.”
Deb, please, take a vacation. You obviously need it.

DocLiberty on December 11, 2007 at 9:02 pm

CobraKai-
You asked the question without really reading what I had to say; hence, the definition of a “knee-jerk reaction”. What do I base my analogy on? I couldn’t tell you without giving away who I am. Suffice to say that I have lived and researched the Jewish presence in California going back to 1920. For my “try to be political correct associates in California”, Jew is a noun, Jewish is an adjective – these are not to be considered dirty words. Affirmative action has less to do with selections in the entertainment business, as a wise old Jewish woman, a Jew, said to me, “it is ALL (her emphasis) about looks!” She should know as her husband wrote most of one of the most popular TV programs in the 60’s. When you attack like a rabid dog, you force people into their homes. Make people afraid to speak their minds and you loose the ability to gage where they are coming from. Blacks in America are NOT (my emphasis) comfortable AS A WHOLE (for your benefit CorbraKai) comfortable with their understanding of the Jewish faith. That is about all that I can afford to give you at this stage of your education.

code7 on December 11, 2007 at 9:21 pm

What kind of wannabe Ann Coulter crap is this?
Oh yes, let’s attack anyone who might have made a stupid statement as an anti-semite.
You come off as the hate monger Miss Schlussel, not her. From what I’ve read she was trying to make a positive statement regarding Jews, not a negative one. Did it come across as dumb and ill informed? Defintely yes. Was it hateful towards Jews? It sure as heck doesn’t seem that way at all.
Grow up and try fighting some REAL injustice in the world for goodness sake. I know, it’s harder to do than just simple name calling and screaming ‘Anti-semite!’ at anyone that makes a dumb stereotypical comment but maybe you can take your own obvious biases and anger and make them into something positive rather than coming across as actually dumber than the statements that were made in the first place.
Oh but what’s more important, finding real injustice out there, or trying to make a name for yourself by stirring up crap that really is of no significance? The Jewish Ann Coulter you’re not.
