ABC News Blames Giffords Shooting on AZ Immigration Law – So Predictable

By Debbie Schlussel

**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ****

Tonight, after I finished the Jewish Sabbath, I learned the news of the shooting of Democrat Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, a federal judge, and several others.  Say a prayer for Congresswoman Giffords (who is fighting for her life) and her family and for the families of federal Judge John M. Roll and the five others who were tragically murdered.

Sickening: ABC News Blames Rep. Giffords Shooting on Arizona Immigration Law

Since Giffords is an Arizona Congresswoman who opposed Arizona’s law to enforce immigration laws and was the point man for Barack Obama’s plan to send more soldiers to the border, I wondered how long it would take for the liberal mainstream media to blame this massacre by a total nut on those of us who stand for secure borders and NOT for any form of violence like what occurred today.  Well, it didn’t take long.

In fact, ABC News–in its very first report on the air–suggested that this was somehow related to the fact that Arizona has a “heated political climate surrounding its immigration law.”  The network newscast then went into the fact that Giffords opposed the law and that she was Barack Obama’s opposition point man.  And the anchor, David Muir, and reporters repeatedly stressed this point.

Um, evidence please?

In fact, there is no evidence that the shooter, this murderer, Jared Loughner, was anything but a nut.  No evidence at all that this had anything whatsoever to do with immigration.  It’s like me saying that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab picked Detroit as the destination over which to detonate his underwear bomb because of the heated climate surrounding Detroit’s corrupt former mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick.  One has NOTHING to do with the other.

This simply has nothing to do with the immigration law.  And it’s absurd to pin this instance of craziness on that law or those of us inside or outside of Arizona who support that law.

Clearly, those–who do pin this on the law and those who support it–have an agenda.  And ABC News needs to change is name to Los ABC Propagandistos.  (I don’t speak Spanish, so forgive me for making that one up.)

And I’m sure ABC isn’t the only “news” outlet to do so. In fact, I’d bet most of them did the same. They all tend to toe the party line on this stuff.

**** UPDATE – Facebook Friend Jake Lee (join me on FB) notes:

This was a Leftist Hate Crime. The guy is an Anarchist/Far Left nut whose favorite books were The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf.

Exactly. How sad that ABC News just “didn’t get to that” on tonight’s newscast. Too busy blaming the immigration law. Like I said, sooooo predictable.

Congresswoman Giffords is of the Jewish faith.

This is just sad…. a tragedy for her and her family. She is in our thoughts and prayers tonight.

With the help of Hashem, may she be healed and may her days be long on this earth! Amen.

NormanF on January 8, 2011 at 7:32 pm

The MSM and one certain Frank Lautenberg were blaming conservatives and Republicans for this despicable crime – before they knew who did it.

Not that I expect an apology from the likes of them to be forthcoming. Its reprehensible some people use this for political gain.

And we need to avoid jumping to conclusions under we have the facts. The lunatic who shot Rep. Giffords and murdered five other people including Judge John M. Roll, could have it done because he was sick… or simply evil and decided it was a good day to have some “fun.”

We’ll know more soon but I’m certain of one thing as G-d is my witness: the Left will do all they can to ensure this human piece of trash gets to live out the rest of his days in this world.

NormanF on January 8, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Debbie and Norman, the both of you are correct, the left wing MSM is using this incident for politics. It’s pathetic and disgusting for the liberal media to do this crap by playing politics for the shooting of this congresswoman (who I never heard of BTW). ABC news should realize and notice that the nutjob who did this evil act was NOT A POLITICAL person, in other words, he’s “A-Political”! Sal, your right, this lunatic who shot Rep. Gifford had NOTHING to do with political ideolgy, of course the left wing media is using knee-jerk liberal thinking by blaming their political opposition, pathetic of the leftist media.

Debbie and others, we have to notice that the media is messing up this country, not the politicans. The reason why this country is in a meltdown is because of the vermin in the media, and the vermin in the media are nothing but shill-hacks and lapdogs for the government (Democrat party). And that’s why Michael Savage calls the MSM the “Government Media Complex”!

    Sean R. on January 8, 2011 at 8:06 pm

So, antisemitism is a possible explanation for the shooting, but since the major press publications are antisemitic themselves, this explanation never crossed their minds although the text from the Facebook friend included in your post certainly suggests this as an explanation. But the biased press has its own agenda. Can’t even rely on them for the weather reports anymore; they exaggerate those potential forecasts that they think will play into the Global Warming agenda.

Ironically, they mold Giffords’ views for their own purposes. When she was running, the media portrayed her as ‘moderate’ on immigration, suggesting that she did want to control immigration. False of course, and now that it suits their purposes to finally acknowledge openly she was for open borders, they refashion their image of her.

Rhymes With Right on January 8, 2011 at 7:58 pm

Why would anyone be surprised at the reaction by the MSM to this shooting? Just as Mayor Bloomberg blamed someone mad about health care for the attempted car bombing at Times Square, they will always blame the conservative movement whenever violence occurs, the facts be damned.

JeffT on January 8, 2011 at 8:16 pm

The immigration issue does not make any sense. The Congresswoman was openly against the Arizona law, but was in favor of strict enforcement of Federal Laws and berated Washington for failing Arizona. As for the shooter, I went to You Tube, etc. He is an atheist anarchist. A full throttle lefty on the order of “What’s the frequency, Kenneth?”.

Rhymes with Right, I read that pathetic article by Paul Krugman, how dare this little coward with small you-know-what’s between his legs blame this incident on Republicans, and a few conservatives. Then again, jackasses like Krugman have NO shame at all, and how the NY Times don’t fire him for this incident is beyond me. And I was also thinking to myself, when is it when the haters of Ms. Schlussel and other stupid left wingers are going to come out of the woodworks like human raccoons looking for food, etc. and start blaming this incident on anybody on the right.

So far I haven’t seen anything like so far on this site, as for the comment at 8:48pm, your a jackass you putz. Where in this article did Debbie say it was a muslim who shot this congresswoman? She DID NOT mention anything like you moron, as Debbie says “Reading is Fundamental”! You need to read the damn article word-for-word and try use some friggin common sense and stop putting words into Debbie’s mouth and take her words out of context. Pat, your right, this lunatic is an anarchist and probably an atheist!

The usual Lefty talking points about conservatives. We’re all like that, sure.

Next, good old fashioned anti-Semitism with a generous helping of the medieval blood-libel – the hall mark of today’s “progressive.”

Then you follow up by assassinating Debbie Schlussel’s character – a lot of which the Left has done today.

If you read this site, you’ll know Debbie is no fan of them but this comes from someone like you with zero thinking skills and who hates people he thinks are not like him.

I’m reminded of a story of a rabbi in eastern Europe who gets in a cart with a man who when he stops in front of the church, doesn’t bother to cross himself. The rabbi gets off quickly and when he is asked to explain why, observes a man who shows no respect for G-d will be no respecter of the person of other people. People without moral values are far more likely to do evil than than those who have them. If it was up to me, I personally would want to be around someone who fears G-d than a fool who doesn’t have Him in his heart. Atheism holds no great attraction for me. I can’t imagine my life without G-d in it!

Us god-fearing people don’t spread hatred towards anybody you dumbass.

As for Israel, more likely your getting those talking points from either the UN, or muslim countries in the middle east, from what I’ve heard and read, Israel hasn’t killed innocent arabic women and kids, it’s “muslims” in the middle east who does that garbage you buffoon.

And for Debbie, she is “pro-american” and does put america’s interest first, the reason why she and the rest of us here are pro-Israel it’s because Israel is one of our best friends in the world! Who the hell do you want us to support Robert? Iran, Syria, Venezula, Cuba, Russia, China? Last I checked, there really not our friends. And this guy who shot that woman is an “atheist”, and there’s nothing wrong with atheist people, do you have a problem with radical atheist who wants to take god out of everything? And no Robert, atheist are just like everybody else in this world, so NO they are NOT better than god-fearing people.

That ABC would seek to shift the blame to the conservatives is hardly surprising. What I found really disturbing was Gifford’s father, who blamed … the Tea Parties.

As for me, I refrain from calling you a fool, Robert. Being an atheist, that’s your choice. You may be intelligent bookwise, but your rhetoric adds fuel to an already hot fire.

I blame the media for politicizing the attempt on Rep. Giffords’ life. TOTALLY irresponsible reporting (if you can call it that) by ABC. Rather than seeing it through the prism of politics, we SHOULD see it and call it like it is: OUR COUNTRY IS NOT SAFE. As for the shooter, he is loony, and is a few french fries short of a happy meal.

Michael Savage is right: liberalism is a mental disorder.

NormanF on January 9, 2011 at 3:06 am

Sorry, the author of the book “Who Really Cares” is Arthur Brooks. Paul Johnson wrote “Intellectuals.” The latter addresses the seminal minds of the “modern age” and how their lives compared with what they purported. In simple language, did they walk the talk? From Rousseau to Hellman the answer is – how can this be a secret? – NO!

Liberals/Communists/Fascists are phonies. Big surprise. In the book is the evidence.

Liberalism is stunted development. They are toddlers in adult bodies. As toddlers, their whole world is centered on themselves, which includes avoiding responsibility and accountability. The tragedy is that they are adults and never got it about boundaries or the existence of others. Read “Intellectuals.” It is revealing. So is “Cares.”

Life is essentially about living what you believe and one way or another your beliefs will show – “Be sure your sin will find you out.” Amen.

This also holds true for Muslims, to the world’s regret. This explains why it is not simply a fragment of Islam that is the problem. The problem is its core beliefs about itself and others – the others end up converted, taxed, or dead in the “religion of peace.” Some choices.

DAMMAD on January 8, 2011 at 10:44 pm

Dammad: I read “intellectuals” years ago-and it’s glaring agenda you happen to agree with-u lose there. And the only thing your black and white, Fox news approved take on Islam (read any Huntington lately?) proves is that you are under-informed and rely on stereotypes…very poor

    Robert B on January 9, 2011 at 12:10 am

I was reading an article penned by the daughter of Pakistan’s Punjab Governor who lost his life for defending a Christian woman’s right for her beliefs. His daughter pointed out all the praise in her country is for his killer, who is being treated as a hero and all the lawyers there are lining up to defend him. This is the true face of Islam – and its not a stereotype. Ask that of a woman who lost her father.

NormanF on January 9, 2011 at 3:12 am

The left wing media never misses an opportunity to blame the Tea Party and conservatives or anyone who opposes their totalitarian agenda. Yet when Islamic radicals murder innocent Christian & Jewish “infidels” they don’t blame Muslims. Go figure?

Bonzer Wolf on January 8, 2011 at 10:49 pm

Don’t blame ABC news, Debbie! The County Sheriff said it himself in a press conference. He was doing a great job commenting on the vitriolic political rhetoric, but then he shot himself in the foot when he said that it was all about “bigotry” and well… here’s what the county Sheriff said.

“The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous,” he said. “And unfortunately, Arizona, I think, has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.”

While the U.S. LIB news media slobbers over this story, there’s another story 14 people found DECAPITATED in Acapulco, Mexico. Drug violence, just a few dozen miles south of Tuscon has claimed over FORTY THOUSAND lives in the past few years. The gunman was white. His victims were white. Yet this Sheriff who was on his way to saying just the right thing about vitriolic political rhetoric, had to blame Giffords’ shooting on “bigotry”. What a jerk!

Just as you said, the LIB news media will latch on to the “bigotry” charge and run with it for the next two weeks. So while I certainly agree with your opinion that ABC has an agenda, let’s not let that sheriff off the hook so lightly. He brought it up in a press conference and must have known the news media would pick it up and run with it.

Regards,

TINSC (There is NO Santa Claus)

P.S. The Sheriff’s news conference was delivered earlier today during Shabbat. If you didn’t catch it on the internet, you may not be aware that this clod is the one who brought the whole “bigotry” issue into the national news media’s coverage of the story.

There is NO Santa Claus on January 8, 2011 at 10:50 pm

As an ex-ABC production assistant for “Scope” (I guess that dates me) I can tell you that the media abhors a vacuum. Recently I have been disgusted at the inane questions and often insensitive conjectures made just to fill air time even in the face of horrendous tragedy . The rest of the story is eventually uncovered but until then we must hear the drivel. Another reason I miss Cronkite, and Murrow.

Most certainly this scumbag was an anti-semite, after all besides his Nazi obsesion, he used a German made Glock pistol with an extended magazine that can be easily altered to fire automatically. If he drove a BMW (the only German company that refuses to pay reparations to the mostly Jewish slave labor it used to build itself up) that would cinch it.
Ironically Representive Gliffords read our first amendment on the floor of House this morning. You know that free speech amendment that both Nazis and Moslem fundamentalists would trash and burn if they had their way.
I am aware Debbie that as I type a lawsuit has been filed to disallow your own first amendment rights by a certain Moslems hoping to silence your critisism of the torture and murder their bloody faith still condones. Its a fact both beliefs wish to eliminate not only Israel and the Jews but Christians and anyone else outside their narrow ideologies.
How do I dare to defame Islam? No.1 Who are we fighting? No.2. Just look at its rage provoking Hadith and how it treats its own perceived “heretics” e.g. Sunni vs. Shia.
Shame on me for not being PC. I Pray for Representative Gliffords, our servicemen and women, and last but not least our country’s constitution.
And yes, I am a Jew, a people who by nature will extend mercy, defending the suffering, even Moslems. And as evidenced in the Civil Rights Movement and Representative Gliffords we will also stand as a people not only for our own survival but against hatred and prejudice wherever and whenever it is found.

You’d probably line up with the Truthers when all is said and done, I guess because you’d see Israel as responsible for the war in Iraq when Israel was on record as opposing it. The Left has degenerated into a collection of misfits, kooks and cranks and you’re the face of it today.

Robert B is not an Atheist. He obviously a Muslim, and not doing a very good job of hiding it. Modern Atheists fall into two categories. They either dismiss all organized religion equally, or have a nuanced recognition of the fact that some are more destructive than others. You can scour YouTube and the rest of the web for speeches by genuine Atheists (like Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris etc) and not once will you ever hear words like “evil Zionists” or for that matter, just plain “Zionist” ever spoken.

Irving on January 9, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Oh brother, another person who thinks the Glock was iconic in this shooting. First, Glocks are made in Austria – not Germany. Second Glocks are about as common among shooters as Toyotas are among drivers.

Finally, just how do you modify a Glock to be fully auto? It’s already a semi.

LOL everybody here is obsessed with Muslims! But thank God we’re takin ‘Merica back! Dishing out those 2nd amendment remedies, right?

Systemic Failure on January 9, 2011 at 12:16 am

Hey Robert B, if you hate this country so damn much, then I suggest you buy yourself one way ticket and get the hell out of my country you feeble minded dumbass! As for me Robert, I am a passionate man and I get real annoyed by morons like you talking out of your ass and not making any sense at all, and it’s you who’s spewing hatred and left wing crap, etc. As for me not knowing nothing about Israel, moron, I gave you facts and you refuse to accept the truth, it was you who said that Israel kills innocent women and children and I told you that it was radical islamist who does that for their pleasure. Last I checked Robert, those of us who love this country and yes worships god (BTW Robert, I am NOT a churchgoer, I’m more of a spiritual man) and are NOT plotting terrorist attacks against the people in this country like the islamist who does that.

Robert, it’s your side, the radical left wing who’s spewing out hatred, anti-americanism, anti-family, anti-god, etc., and it’s your pathetic left wing ilk who’s ruining this country from top-to-bottom you moron and that’s a FACT! And since your throwing the word “nazi” around, do you know what the exact meaning of that word is, it means “National Socialism” please hit the books and study history you illiterate fool. As I said and many others have said this evening, this gunman who shot that congresswoman is a left winger and an atheist, and I also assume this gunman was on some type of drug, whether it’s prozac or prozac like medication. And those who have a drug problem shouldn’t own a firearm, so Robert, go back to the Daily Kos, Huffington Post, Democrat Underground, youtube, Yahoo News, Think Progress, Media Matters, etc. Let us adults do the talking and debating here!

I must depart from these waters of blind “patriotism”, unquestioned religious “faith” and “israel before america/hate islam” dogmas…y’all keep out them commie libreals now ya hear? keep up the good work, y’all god-fearing, john wayne lovin’ real americans, now, ya hear?!

Robert B on January 9, 2011 at 12:26 am

You’ve taken your parting shot, troll. It would be a blessing not to see you on here again. Peddle your rabid anti-American and anti-Israel garbage where its wanted. And that’s not on this forum!

NormanF on January 9, 2011 at 3:27 am

You’re choosing off on John Wayne??!! Oh man, you’d best stay gone.

And also Robert B, even though I am a homosexual, and would like it, I just wanted to say: Kiss my ass!!

Sean R. on January 9, 2011 at 12:27 am

Oh and BTW Robert B since I’m kicking your ass in this debate, who said this quote, “Make no mistake about it, those who are anti-zionist are anti-semetic”, the person who said that quote was Martin Luther King Jr. Please go back to stormfront and attend your neo-nazi meetings you miserable loser. And the poster at 12:27 am, post with your real screen name or get lost, and I also assume your Robert B who’s trying so hard to impersonate me?

Oh Bob. You are so convincing.

Best not to feed the Jew-hate trolls. Except to say this, Robert B how come your opinions on Israel are the same as neo-Nazis and Muslim extremists? They are anti-Zionist too, but I guess the obvious facts are beyond your comprehension. No Robert B will never answer these questions, not honestly or coherently at least. Up the dosage on the zoloft Bob, maybe something stronger, thorazine perhaps.

I don’t know what he’s on but he’s a disturbed person to say the least. Arguing with him is like arguing with someone in the asylum. There was nothing coherent or rational about anything he wrote. I’m glad to see him gone and should he appear again, Debbie may have to ban him from posting here. Nevertheless, his rantings are a good illustration of what’s taken over the Left today and its a far from pleasant picture to witness.

NormanF on January 9, 2011 at 3:32 am

I looked at Krugman’s “insights”. First, is that picture of him his face, or his ass? I’m betting it’s his ass since everything else on the page is diarrhea from his twisted soul. This man is truly demonic.

CornCoLeo on January 9, 2011 at 2:06 am

It is just the old Timothy McVeigh was a conservative tactic played out once again. If you are not on the left, you are a racist xenophobe who is just one step away from committing mass murder. Representative Giffords and all of those who were injured or killed by that lunatic should receive our sympathy and prayers. However, there are those who do not think this horror warrants sympathy for the victims, but rather jump on it to slander/libel their political opponents and comparing them to a maniac without any visible conservative, much less a Republican connection. Even the Pima County Sheriff is using this event as an excuse to mouth off on race. It is nice to know that someone in an executive position in law enforcement is such a race baiter.

Paula Brooks on January 9, 2011 at 7:45 am

Maybe it was that ad for a June event that allowed Jesse Kelly’s tea bagger supporters to “Get on Target for Victory” — “Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office” by shooting a “fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly”.

Paula Brooks on January 9, 2011 at 7:46 am

You seem to know alot about teabagging. Is that what you spend most of your time doing?

    Sorrow01 on January 9, 2011 at 2:44 pm

The Daily Kos actually put a “bulls eye” on Gabrielle Giffords back in June of 2008.

And then there’s the scrubbed Daily Kos “Dead to Me” hit piece on Gabrielle Gifford just two days before the assassination attempt.

    So
Is the Daily Kos involved in the murders?

ebayer on January 9, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I ask that all of RobertB’s comments be removed and that this cretin be banned from Debbie’s site for ever and ever.

As for Israel … Israel’s war is our war is freedom’s war. It is a war between civilization and barbarity, between freedom and tyranny. As our friend David Appletree likes to point out, Genesis 12:3 tells us that “I [G-d] shall bless those who bless you [Yisrael] and curse those who curse you.” No wonder, then, that Islamic countries are doing so poorly.

Generally speaking, what is good for Israel, is good for America. It is, indeed, our only democratic ally in the Middle East – our sole friend in the War on Terror.

As for the rest of RobertB’s comments, it seems that NormanF and the other commentators on here gave him the tongue-lashing he deserved, and I won’t try adding to it. The idiocy and incoherence of Robert’s remarks speak for themselves.

P.S. Not all leftists are like RobertB, but his vitriol sure does give liberalism a very bad name. How counter-productive … and despicable.

@NormanF: You should start your own blog 🙂

Have a good week, everybody!

Mike on January 9, 2011 at 8:47 am

Well, those like the NYT and the liberal media in general, who say that this shooting is somehow the fault of Republicans and conservatives, and the fault of the harsh (conservative-inspired) language in politics are in good company. That paragon of objectivity, Al Jazeera, is saying the same thing.

As the old saying goes, a man is known by the company he keeps.

And then there is Sheriff Dupnik. First, I wonder what there is about being a sheriff that gives one added political insight to comment on political issues like the Arizona immigration law. Kind of like movie stars. They are entitled to their opinion, but I don’t think that either occupation demands a study of political science to enter its ranks.

And Sheriff Dupnik has had a long opposition to the Arizona law. He has as much as said he wouldn’t enforce it. Reminds me of DHS who also does not enforce our immigration laws, and publicizes against them. It appears to be laziness in not doing his job, coupled with political expediency, along with a Bizarro concept of law enforcement.

While the shooting of Rep. Giffords was a horrible tragedy, the liberals are trying, as Debbie wrote, to intimidate law-abiding citizens from supporting legislation and law-enforcement designed to protect our country from illegal immigration and terrorism. Or else, maybe like Chief Moose in the Muhammad/Malvo shootings in 2002, Sheriff Dupnik wants to become an instant celebrity and write a book.

Where’s Boob– I mean bob this morning?

Sal on January 9, 2011 at 9:15 am

Paula Brooks, I just browsed through your website and from the looks of it, it’s nothing but pro-gay agenda nonsense on it, I can tell your one of those militant gay-fascist who want’s to push your radical agenda down the throats of people in this country? And NO I don’t have NOTHING against gay people, majority of gay people in this country DO NOT want to get married and wants to be left alone. Paula, do you know what the term “tea bagger” means? It’s a sexual slur against homosexual people when their having sex with eachother, apparently your being a parrot for the far left wingers. Rep. Giffords is moderatley conservative, and the shooter is a radical left winger, a pot smoker, & probably an atheist, so keep saying that this loser is a conservative and a tea partier, which is false BTW.

Debbie, I hope you log onto this site and read Robert B’s garbage post and delete it right away. Majority of his pathetic post is nothing but anti-semetism, anti-Israel, anti-American, etc. And I also assume that Robert B is Fisher? Fisher was here last week and posted the same anti-semetic talking points and Debbie erased his/her posts.

“A nation is identified by it’s borders, language & culture!”

Sean R. on January 9, 2011 at 9:25 am

BTW Paula Brooks, what are opinions on the islamofascist? Are you going to come back here and condemn islamofascism or are you going to apologize for them like most leftist? You know that in muslim countries in the middle east, they kill, execute and oppress gay people, that is a FACT, not an opinion. And speaking of which Paula, where is the gay community on this issue, why the hell are you guys so damn silent on this issue of muslim extremist killing gays in the middle east? I know why you phonies won’t condemn them it’s because you frauds are afraid of them and if you criticize them, you’ll be afraid that they’ll put the kabosh on you. But you phonies are so quick to criticize christians, jews, etc. for lords knows what, and you know that christians and jews are tolerant people and won’t resort to violence. As I said Paula, what is your opinion on islamofascism?

Of course dont you know that people who believe in the constitution and every ones rights are the cause of all evil? The main stream media will if they cant belittle people like this will blame bad weather, bad food or an act of God. What ever happened to personnel responsibility one nut did this would the news be quick to blame with out fact if someone to the right was killed or how about troops that were killed at Fort Hood it took obama I two week to come out and even then he was in denial that a muslim again had killed ABC,CBS,and NBC should be brought to terms that in reporting the news that the truth (EMETH) should be brought up if they cant dont bring up conjector or their own opinons only facts. Jonathan Gartner on January 9, 2011 at 10:11 am

Ironic. Ive been Waiting for a while now to hear about something like this happening to one or more of the cracked, far right frontman or woman responsible for just plain not reading immigration facts and Pushing all these Hispanics to the brink of insanity worrying when The Man is gonna rip them from their home here and send them back…. Unfortunately, this occurred to the exact opposite of the representatives. The ones w common sense.
I’m still waiting on my scenario…

Hmm on January 9, 2011 at 10:36 am

David Appletree tells me that Gifford is NOT Jewish, but anti=Semites don’t know the difference.

Mike on January 9, 2011 at 10:47 am

It’s a sad day when a crazy person with atheist, communist, and mind control beliefs,is supposed to be influenced by Fox news and conservatives. He wrote about the constitution like a lunatic as well. Those are all uber LIBERAL stances which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Ann Coulter has been pointing out since her last book Guilty, I believe, that crazed gunmen have been overwhelmingly liberal since liberals have so much more mental illness to begin with. After working with the mentally ill for years I have yet to meet a single conservative or one claiming to be a republican. On another note, I hate to sound like a jerk, but I couldn’t help but think about all the other shootings, stabbings, arsons, etc that claim innocent lives that aren’t high profile citizens. Those victims get no such acknowledgement. Looks like the political class gets extra justice to go with their extra important jobs.

samurai on January 9, 2011 at 11:27 am

Another thing. After dealing with administrators in the law enforcement community for 25 years I have ceased to be impressed by their job titles. Sheriffs and Chiefs rarely represent the rank and file because they are no longer in touch with the way the world outside their offices operates. Joe Arpaio is one exception but he is hands on management type of boss. The Sheriff that spouted off about his own self loathing is just another idiot who has his own office and probably doesn’t make his own coffee.

samurai on January 9, 2011 at 11:34 am

From Erik Erikson – excellent letter…

This morning we pray for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, her family, and the other victims of the heinous violence in Arizona.

It should not be, but the media, under the guise of “a full exposition” of the evil in Arizona, is back to subtly and not so subtly pinning the blame for the attempted assassination of the Congresswoman and the related shootings on the tea party movement, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, me, you, and everyone right of center.

Let’s be crystal clear: this is the supposedly objective news media doing this, not the openly, partisan left, though it is fueling the media witch hunt. And from what we now know, it is not just media malpractice, but a lie.

Ironically, by perpetuating the lie — by even treating it as a legitimate topic of consideration to revisit the accusations of violence and hate the media tried to run with prior to the November election — that the right and the tea party incited this evil act, the left and media may very well incite violence against the right.

Today, the Sunday Shows will all be from Arizona. There will, I have no doubt, be many of them wanting to know if “rhetoric” and “tea parties” and “opposition to Barack Obama” did this.

They will also bring up, as they did yesterday, Sarah Palin putting Gabrielle Giffords on her target list for defeat with a rifle scope symbol over her district.

Here is what will either not be brought up, or if brought up, will only be mentioned in passing.

Markos Moulitsas of the Daily Kos, the largest left-wing community online, put Gabrielle Giffords on a target list with a bullseye. Just as Sarah Palin removed her post, Markos has removed his.

Another Daily Kos writer, just the other day, penned a post saying Congresswoman Giffords was dead to him.

But then there is the real culprit — the shooter himself.

A friend of the shooter’s described the shooter as decidedly “left-wing” as recently as 2007.

On YouTube, he flagged as a favorite video one of a person dressed as a terrorist burning the American flag. Only a lunatic or a leftist would do that.

His favorite work was not a Glenn Beck book, but a staple of every left-wing bookshelf, the Communist Manifesto.

In the Communist Manifesto, there are numerous, frequent calls for violence against the bourgeoisies.

Left-wing cartoonist Ted Rall’s most recent book calls for a violent response from the left against the right.

Barack Obama himself told left-wing activists, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.”

The point of all of this is not to blame Ted Rall, Mr. Obama, Media Matters, MSNBC, any other particular person or group on the left, or the left in general. It is also not to say in any way, shape, or form that the guy is of the left. If, however, we take the evidence as presented and not as the media and left would have it presented, the shooter very clearly is not of the right.

More precisely, the shooter is neither left-wing nor right-wing. He is crazy and evil — a word not used enough. But the media, at least as of this morning and its accumulated coverage so far on this matter, could not care less. The media is intent on yet again exploring right-wing rhetoric and tea party hate. Left-wingers yesterday were falling all over themselves to blame everyone on the right for the horrific shooting.

The media today, as it begins more expansive reporting, will not let the facts get in the way of making the right, yet again, responsible for violence it neither incited nor enabled. In the process, the media’s credibility will continue to shrink.

jdiz on January 9, 2011 at 12:03 pm

Hmm, here’s a fact about this lunatic shooter, he clearly claimed that he read the communist manifesto, read Adolph Hitler’s novel “Mein Kampf” and supports the far left wing agenda, and that’s conservative? Please, come on man, get your facts straight and put aside your damn liberal politics for once and use some common sense!

BTW, since the Jets & Seahawks won last night (I picked them both to win yesterday), who do you think is gonna win the games between the Ravens-Chiefs, & Packers-Eagles? And who are you folks gonna pick for tomorrow’s BCS national championship between (2)Oregon-(1)Auburn? Make your picks folks and move aside from friggin politics which I am sick and tired of BTW.

“A nation is identified by it’s borders, language & culture!”

Robert, please quit while you’re behind. You’re giving agnostics and atheists (such as me) a bad name. Although I have no use for the often contemptuous remarks about atheists, found on this site, I have to agree with many of the comments about you expressed in this thread. You’re simply a Jew-hating, Israel-hating, and America-loathing putz. Stuff a sock into your pie hole, please.

Susuu on January 9, 2011 at 12:45 pm

Also notice how the fascist gun grabbers have also been coming out of the woodwork in the wake of the Giffords shooting – including and especially Rep. Carolyn McCarthy who, I seem to remember, only got elected because her husband was killed, and her son shot up, in the 1993 LIRR massacre. She’s been all over the media pushing the anti-gun agenda.
