Fuss Over Navy Ship Video is Much PC Ado ‘Bout Nothin’
Another day, another attack on the U.S. military. A new year, a new attack on the U.S. military. But this one is based on video tapes that are four and five years old.
There’s a reason–several, actually–why women and gays shouldn’t be in the military. And it’s not just that they–the women–get pregnant and that both groups destroy morale and cohesion of the unit. It’s that they can’t handle the lewd hijinks in the USS Enterprise video, stuff that goes on and has been going on in the U.S. military from time immemorial.
I viewed one of the risque videos, which is the subject of much fuss, and for me, it’s disgusting and inappropriate, and more than that, stupid. The people in them are sleazy, and I probably wouldn’t want to hang out with them. But it’s not for me to judge. I’m not fighting in any war and serving the country in the military. I’m not stuck on a ship in the middle of nowhere. I’ve seen World War II cards, drawings, pictures soldiers sent home and shared with each other, and some of them are downright low-class filthy. But that’s what men do when they are away, without their wives and girlfriends, and have itches they need to, um, scratch, etc. Navy Captain Owen Honors showed poor taste and even worse judgment in participating (how dumb was it to be on a video – helloooo . . . ?), but perhaps he thought this was the way to help ship morale. We don’t know why he did it, as he’s a very respected captain, according to many of his sailors, current and former. No, it’s not something that’s a credit to our military. But it’s just a small group of soldiers, hardly representative of the mostly fine people who serve America. And the videos were meant to be private.
The video–because of its release and the mainstream media promotion of it–is now the stuff of dumb lawsuits, Oprah appearances, and Islamic anti-American propaganda. The fuss over the video is simply the mainstream media doing Bin Laden’s work.
I can just see these Islamic hypocrites from their caves, planning to use this stuff in their recruiting tapes to show how evil the Great American Satan’s soldiers are . . . while Bin Laden and his men make some poor Afghan boy dress like a girl and do Bacha Bazi dances before they all gang rape him. Thanks, ABCFOXNewsMSNBCBSCNN.
This is the kind of stuff that has always been going on in the military–especially on ships, where it’s lonely and there isn’t much to do, while confined in close quarters. The fuss about it makes you wonder about the uber-sensitivity of gays and women and their advocates and how their making fusses over videos like this will add to the success of their planned further integration into the military. If they can’t handle a video, imagine when they’re in a foxhole. Not exactly a good omen. We’ve become a nation of hyper-sensitive wimps. Political correctness is the death of us.
The release of this videos, made a long time ago–several years ago, will hurt careers and hurt America. It won’t do much else. It won’t help gay rights or any so-called civil rights cause.
Like I said, I think the videos are disgusting, showing mocked group shower scenes and simulated masturbation. But those videos weren’t made for you or me to see. They were made by military people on a ship for their own consumption, not ours, and not for the world to hate on America and attack our Armed Forces.
And turn on MTV2, HBO, or even soap operas in the afternoon on ABC. You won’t see stuff too much more chaste. Brett Favre’s texted photos and request for a masturbation are far more disgusting and they’re all over the place.
I would like to know who leaked the video and why, if for any other reason than to hurt America, hurt our Armed Forces, hurt our Navy, hurt our sailors, and hurt Captain Honors. Those are the only things that person achieved. Little else.
We are at war, every single day. How sad that the Virginian -Pilot, which reported on the 2006 and 2007 videos, doesn’t get that.

Hey, if you are on a ship thousands of miles from home, out at sea for nine months at a time, away from your family, you are entitled to some hijinks.
This is just one more effort on the part of top brass and politicians to turn the U.S. military, and this country, into a bunch of pussies (please excuse the expression, but nothing else is strong enough).
