Incredible: Arizona Senator Jon Kyl Defends Julie “Blackface Originality” Myers
By Debbie Schlussel
Well, count on some boneheaded Republicans–in addition to Michael “Serpenthead” Chertoff–to defend the indefensible, and most important, immature and irresponsible behavior, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement chieftess Julie L. Myers. Who cares that The ICE Princess gave out an award to an obviously racist costume? Julie, Yer Doin’ a Heckuva Job.
Left-wing site Think Progress has the transcript of an interesting press conference response by U.S. Senator Jon Kyl. He must be smoking some good MaryJane. TP also notes that the Bushies won’t condemn her either:
The White House has simply stated it is up to Chertoff to “make any personnel decisions.”
Today, Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and John Kyl (R-AZ) also resisted admonishing Myers. When asked whether he and his colleagues “support her at this point,” McConnell ducked the question by saying he was “not up on” the issue. Kyl went so far as to praise her performance at the agency:
MCCONNELL: You know what I always dread at a press conference?
Somebody asking me a question I’m not up on. [DS: Not up on it? Does he not watch the news or read a paper? Hello . . . ?}
(LAUGHTER)
And I really can’t respond to it because I haven’t checked on that nomination lately. . . . Anybody else got anything?
KYL: Just one thing: In terms of job performance, I don’t know of anybody, now, that believes that she has not done a credible job.
Um, Senator, you clearly haven’t talked to the several thousand employees. Not only don’t they believe she’s done a credible job. They know.
Get a clue.

Debbie,
I’m losing faith in the Repubs. Kyl and McConnell are losers, McKaskill has some brains. It is enough to make me think libertarian (But only briefly!)
