Don’t Vote For Sami Al-Arian’s RINODhimmis
I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again. It’s unfortunate that Tea Partiers didn’t also focus on getting rid of RINO liberal “Republicans” on the state and local levels, too. In Michigan, one of the most important areas is the university regents, even though no one ever pays attention to those races. They spend gazillions of your tax dollars–state and federal . . . and they set important policies about what kinds of ideas and behavior on campus are acceptable and which aren’t.
RINODhimmi & Sami Al-Arian Enabler, Andrea Fischer-Newman

That’s why I’m disappointed that Tea Party Republicans did not stop the Michigan Republican Party from renominating Andrea Fischer-Newman and Andrew Richner to the University of Michigan Board of Regents. Both of these cretins actively opposed the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, which made it illegal to use race, gender, and ethnicity for affirmative action in admissions, hiring, and promotions. That was after they spent your money to travel to Washington to pose in front of the U.S. Supreme Court to denounce the lawsuits against U-M’s discriminatory affirmative action policies. And both spent millions of your tax dollars, after they voted to make uber-lefty doompa Mary Sue Coleman, Michigan’s President, the highest paid college president in America, at nearly a million a year for doing not a whole lot and wasting a whole lot more. And, under their watch and knowing approval, Michigan’s scientists and other professors have been illegally transferring government-funded technology and studies results to China. More to come on that. Stay tuned.
And these two aren’t just RINOs, they are RINODhimmis. Both of these people are against free speech for conservatives, while RINO-JINO Fischer-Newman was proud to support free speech for a convicted Islamic terrorist. I know because I was in court against Fischer-Newman and the University just a few years ago, trying to stop their gushing invitation to an Islamic terrorist connected to HAMAS and Al-Qaeda at their highest levels.
In 2002, several University of Michigan students hired me to file a lawsuit against the university, when it invited Islamic terrorist Sami Al-Arian to campus to be the keynote speaker at the Divestment (from Israel) Conference. At the time, Al-Arian had already been banned from the University of South Florida campus, where he was a professor, because he was a threat to students. FBI surveillance tapes and documents showed that Al-Arian funded a homicide bombing that murdered New Jersey college student, Alisa Flatow, and he was raising money for more. He also wrote a letter trying to coordinate the merger of HAMAS and Islamic Jihad.
But, no biggie. Al-Arian was welcomed onto the Michigan campus, with Fischer-Newman and President Coleman leading the cheers about his First Amendment right to free speech. Al-Arian spoke, and participants shouted “Iqbal Al-Yahud”–annihilate the Jew. Yes, the conference wasn’t just “anti-Israel.” It was an anti-Jewish hate-fest. Thereafter, violent, anti-Semitic attacks on Jewish students on campus (by Muslim ones) escalated. I spoke at a counter-rally on campus, and Fisher-Newman “monitored” me, not Al-Arian. Because–you know?–my speech about Michigan grad Raoul Wallenberg, a savior of many Jews from the Holocaust, and how he was turning over in his grave that these Jew-haters invaded his campus, was the thing that needed First Amendment slut Fischer-Newman’s approval.
Fast forward eight years. It’s 2010, and a conservative, pro-life lawyer, Andrew Shirvell, has a blog attacking the openly gay, pro-choice Michigan Student Assembly President. (Having been elected to and served on MSA when I was at Michigan, I can tell you he’s right at home on the People’s Republic of MSA.) Well, apparently, that kind of speech is not allowed. But the speech of a convicted Islamic terrorist–A-Okay!
You see, Richner and Fischer-Newman (and Mary Sue Coleman) banned Shirvell from the University of Michigan campus. Coleman and the Regents, including Richner and Fischer-Newman, issued a statement, saying “We won’t tolerate bigotry on campus,” which is interesting since Sami Al-Arian called for “a river of blood” and “death to the Sons and Daughters of David and the Sons and Daughters of Jesus Through Mary,” and they welcomed him and spent your tax money to protect him. Now, they are spending your tax money for lawyers and police to silence Andrew Shirvell.
Although I don’t agree with Shirvell’s statements and actions, I guess he should have blown up some Jews on a bus. Then, he’d get the welcome mat and the keys to Ann Arbor. Fischer-Newman declined to respond to my e-mails asking her where her pro-First Amendment cries for Sami Al-Arian went, now that it’s pro-life, anti-gay Andrew Shirvell’s turn at free speech on Michigan’s campus. Hypocrites usually don’t–and can’t–respond.
Why do these two even have these coveted University of Michigan Regent positions and why do they want them? Well, you get terrific seats at the football games and extras for your friends . . . gratis. Ditto for basketball. And the same for bowl games, March Madness NCAA basketball tournaments, etc. There are a lot of perks.
But how they got them is another story. Richner is a career politician and RINO lawyer who was term limited out of his State House seat. He needed a landing pad to remain in office and get high-paid lobbying work for his fancy law firm. And he got one.
The liberal, pro-choice Fischer-Newman is a more interesting story. She apparently got her high-paying lobbyist job at Delta Airlines and her spot as a Regent based solely on impropriety. Fischer-Newman bragged to anyone who would listen about her relationship with married then-Governor John Engler. In return, Engler put her on the corrupt Wayne County Airport Commission, where she looked the other way on corruption by his friends and cronies in Detroit who helped build the new McNamara Terminal (cost over-runs by the millions), and then she and he parlayed this into a job for her as Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs (that means “lobbyist” and “hack flack”) for Northwest Airlines, a job she now has with Delta (now that it swallowed Northwest).
When I wrote about Fischer-Newman’s refusal to ask the University of Michigan to ban Sami Al-Arian, she had another, um, “friend” of hers call me and threaten me. Imagine my shock to get several threatening voice mail messages on her behalf from Michigan Republican Congressman David Camp. This is the man who will take over the House Ways and Means Committee–the most powerful committee in Congress–when the Republicans take over in January. You’d think he’d have more important things to do than repeatedly call me. The way he was so adamant on Fischer-Newman’s behalf, it appeared there was an improper relationship between the two of them. She claimed they knew each other from summer camp. But something tells me that a gentile Congressman from mid-Michigan didn’t go to Jewish princess summer camp. But I guess “summer camp” might be what they are calling something else, these days.
As you’ll recall, I’ve written a good deal about Fischer-Newman, because she is the one who caved to whining Muslims who missed their flight from the Hajj–the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca–because they did not check in for the flight in time. After that, Fischer-Newman agreed to put the airline’s officials through CAIR’s sensitivity-training courses. And she gives out tens of thousands of dollars in free airline tickets to Muslim groups and even to “former” Islamic terrorist Imad Hamad, so he can go to his HAMAS/Hezbollah-supporting organization’s various meetings.
As you may also recall, I wrote about Fischer-Newman’s attempt to cover up another story I wrote about. Cops I know and represent at Detroit Metro Airport told me about a toy found on a Northwest plane that was a mock bomb. Fischer-Newman lied and claimed it was just a toy. But I trust the cops, not a public relations official and lobbyist.
These are the two slobs whom Republicans rotely re-nominated and who will likely benefit from the Republican tidal wave tomorrow.
It’s so sad. But I’ll sleep easier knowing I didn’t vote for these frauds.
Will you?

I’m a Michigan grad myself (MA) but stopped giving to them several years ago. Between the Muslim foot baths at Dearborn, the Palestinian activism on campus, Juan Cole still on staff as a Middle East “scholar” or Neve Gordon as a visiting scholar, I’d had enough. Neve Gordon, for those who don’t know, is an ardently anti-Zionist professor from Israel’s Ben Gurion University. He was brought in to teach the Arab-Israeli Conflict course a few years ago – a course in which I served as teaching assistant long ago.
