“Living With Ed”: New HGTV Show on Nightmares of Living w/an Enviro-Freak

By Debbie Schlussel
Based on USA Today’s description, it sounds like the most amusing new TV show of 2007 will be “Living with Ed“–an HGTV reality show on the life of left-wing enviro-freak actor Ed Begley, Jr. and his wife, Rachelle Carson.
It looks like the show will portray how ridiculous these enviro-freaks are. And how impossible it is to live with them. And how joyless, to boot. It sounds hilarious:

Actor Ed Begley Jr., 57, has long been eco-obsessed. He has driven an electric car for decades. He recycles. He uses solar energy.
But his wife, Rachelle Carson, 46, gets a little tired of the unconventional lifestyle. Waiting for him to power the toaster by riding a stationary bike, for example, is frustrating. . . .

Environmental Wacko & Actor Ed Begley, Jr. w/ Wife Rachelle Carson

In the yard, for example, she’d like to pull that weed, but then she’s not sure if it’s a weed or something Ed planted that might be edible. . . .
In the series, Ed clocks Rachelle’s shower with a stopwatch, taunting her outside the bathroom door about how many gallons of water she’s wasting.

Claims Begley, Jr.:

I’m a perfect husband. Women in America are going to see it that way.

You keep telling yourself that, Ed. He would be the perfect husband . . . in the Stone Age. Or the Amazon Jungle.
This show reminds me of President Jimmy Carter’s speech to America telling them to ride their bicycles to work in the sweltering hot summer in coat and tie, sweating themselves to a drench, in order to conserve energy. Come to think of it, Begley is sort of like the actor version of Jimmuh Carter, minus the Southern accent and specious, anti-Semitic books.
And it reminds me of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”/”Seinfeld” actor Larry David’s lamentations about how his whacked-out environmental activist wife Laurie David makes him separate the plies of toilet paper and other absurdities, all in the name of conservation and environmentalism. Their life, too, would make a hilarious show into the absurdity of the She Greens/He’s Normal lifestyle.
I’m already looking forward to the follow-up season spin-off of this show: “Divorcing Ed.” I can almost guarantee there won’t be a fight over who gets the stationary bike-powered toaster.
The show begins with a sneak preview on HGTV at 1:00 p.m. Eastern New Year’s Day, and starts in its regular Sunday Night slot on January 7th, at 10:00 p.m. Eastern.

What I would give for this show to be on a widely watched network!
This would be an “in your face” for the American public. It’s so easy and trendy (yes, you, too, limo riding, huge energy using mansion living Al Gore) for people to spout out the “green” lifestylisms.
This would be a great education tool to show what these wackos are really like. My guess is 99% of people who talk about the environment wouldn’t live this way for more than 5 minutes.

What an ass. You cannot “waste” water. In one way or another, water always gets recycled, albeit in some ways faster than others. We are drinking the same water today that dinosaurs drank ages ago. Any Earth scientist or ecologist will tell you this as fact.
BTW, how does he recharge the battery in his car? Sure, he plugs it into the wall socket, but he has no idea that that electricity he’s using to recharge his car was most probably made using fossil fuels such as oil and coal, since the enviro-wackos, like him, won’t let us build any more nuclear plants. (Hydropower accounts for only about 7% of electric generation).
Does he string up Christmas lights? Probably not, since he’s a LIBERAL he’s also an atheist. His god is the god of government.
Does he warm his house with gas, oil, or electricity? He could be a true believer and rent an apartment where the building is already using heat and light instead of owning a house, and taking up more precious land space.
How does he cool his house during the hot summer months, or does he sweat-it-out?
When he needs to go to locations to shoot a movie, does he take a plane, train, or automobile? Or does he pack up his electric car and plug it into some stranger’s wall socket every couple hundred miles, or does he load up his bicycle with his luggage and pedal his way across country?
I’m not in favor of pollution and waste, but these LIBERALS are not only hypocrites, they make it harder and MORE costly to develop more sources of energy. How many posters here are happy paying $2.50/gallon of gasoline giving their money to the people who hate us?

How does this horse’s ass get work anymore? Who would cast this moron in anything? He is offensive, and one cannot seperate him from whatever character he’s playing. It’s like Madonna, the Ditzy Twits, or Streisand. How many right wingers are going to support their careers? Doesn’t that limit their earning potential?

Ed,Ed,Ed…Im reminded of Laurie David, the queen of the global warming fantasy, self righteously proclaiming the superiority of anyone who works, donates and preaches that the sky is falling and we need to prepare..bikes, campfires, electric cars, sun tea..whatever.
Meanwhile, back with the humans, she rides her big jet from place to place, begging for money and attention. And lives in a home with 16 rooms. And consumes whatever she wishes, considering her husband is rich.
The stench of self proclaimed activists that give hypocrite a new meaning is overwhelming, and eminates from Hollywood way more often than is warranted.
If this show is portrayed as anything other than a ridiculous farce about enviro nutcases that would be a tragedy. The New Left, always blaming America and forgiving our enemies and aiding those who would kill Americans and destroy our way of life needs to be exposed at every turn.
Enviromentalism is a front for warmed over commies to cripple American industry and capitalism in general. The socialist Utopia never existed and sure as hell never will if we expose and shame these idiots with the same ferocity they work to destroy America.
Do whatever you can…

They look like a cute couple. At least Ed Begley, Jr. is married.

What a fitting fate for a washed up ‘B’ list actor.
If I were that whacked out, I wouldn’t broadcast it.
Eco-Narcissism anyone?

He is so neurotic, he needs a shrink.

He’s harmless. His neighbor, the author Jerry Pournelle, is pretty far right, and seems to like him anyway, recently writing “Ed is probably the nicest guy in the neighborhood.” See http://www.jerrypournelle.com/view/view445.html#Begley
