Are You One of the 0.00000000001% Who Likes Women Calling Football Games?

By Debbie Schlussel
If so, you can watch Beth Mowins call games for the Western Athletic Conference on the hardly watched ESPNU (which will become even less watched as a result).
But for the rest of us–who don’t like in-your-face feminism inserted into every crevice of life, watch real football on many other choices elsewhere. Even the mundane John Madden is better than this.
In 2003, I debated a CNN sports reporteratrix and a militant female sports radio host on CNN’s “Talk Back Live” about this very issue. They were all upset that John Madden is fat and old and he had a big-time deal with ABC to call “Monday Night Football” games. But that’s the nature of the marketplace. The majority of football fans are men, and they don’t want to hear Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, or even Beth Mowins annoying them during their one escape from reality. They’d turn it off faster than they did Dennis Miller. And Beth Mowins never coached an NFL team.
The first woman to call college football, Pam Ward on ESPN2, is unliked, and even less watched. Mowins will be more of the same. Keep them on WNBA games where their feminist fans will have to endure it. Keep football games for the real professionals. In the case of football games, that means MEN.

Debbie,
I do not like women calling football games but I have to admit looking at Jillian in Hip Huggers is a far cry better than a drunk Joe Namath or Johna (the Hut) Madden. So in closing leave the game calling to the old fat men with a little eye candy thrown in for good measure.

Uncle Tim, I’m not knocking the sideline reporters or FOX NFL weathergirl Jillian Barberie, here. As I said in my CNN appearance on this topic, they are their for one reason–eye candy (as you say)–because sports is entertainment, and their job is to entertain. But none of them are there for their football knowledge (I doubt anyone could remember a thing any of them said). And no one would want to hear them call a game, as you confirm.

I can imagine a woman calling a baseball game though. If you’re ever down in New York, listen to a Yankee game on the radio, Suzyn Waldman does a surprisingly good job…..I don’t know how well she’d come across calling football though.

these days if you suck people will boot you off the air pretty quickly. what i really miss is the vaguely intellectual, jewish point of view of howard cosell. he was the best announcer ever. i just dont think that in this era dominated by jocks and blowdryed goyim that anyone like cosell will ever make it again.

If I hit the lotto,I’d like to invest in a sports
channel for women only for anyone who’s into women doing football, the WNBA and my worst of all selection-women’s boxing. This year alone,a female community college professor died after being warned to avoid this sport-and a 50-year old woman in her pro-debut(!) ended up in a coma(go to google and hit 50-year old woman in coma from boxing). In October,Ann Wolfe, who looks like
some combination of non-woman and steroid chick is scheduled to fight a man;to protest this, even non-fans should pay to see Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo II-so far the (male)fight of the century.
