New James Bond Has Many Detractors

By Debbie Schlussel
Looks like I’m not alone in dissing the new Blond . . . James Bond. USA Today reports on the multiple critics of the metro, scrawny new Bond of “Casino Royale,” Daniel Craig. There is even a site that appears a little over-obsessive, DanielCraigIsNotBond.com, if somewhat funny.
As we noted earlier, we’ll never forget his absurd utterance as an apocryphal Mossad agent in “Munich,” in which he defamed those who pursued the Islamic terrorists who slaughtered the Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics, when warned that their antics would kill innocents:

The only blood I care about is Jewish blood.

Never happened. In fact, the Mossad agents went out of there way not to kill anyone except the terrorists, and they only killed one person by accident (a case of innocent mis-identification).
Given that, we kinda like the anti-Daniel Craig site.

Debbie, I don’t have a dog in this fight: have only seen one or two films Craig has been in, and am not a fan nor do I hate him. I haven’t seen CASINO ROYALE but will because I like to make up my own mind. I might very well agree with you after I’ve seen it.
I did see MUNICH and winced when Craig’s character uttered those detestable words. (In fact, that’s only one thing I don’t like about that movie.)
But surely we need to step back, take a deep breath, and acknowledge that actors, with a few notable exceptions, don’t write their own dialog. The blame for everything that’s objectionable about MUNICH really should be placed at the doorsteps of the screenwriters, self-hating Jews Tony Kushner and Eric Roth, as well as Steven (“I-love-Castro-more-than-my-own-kids”) Spielberg.
If Craig was miscast for CASINO ROYALE, fault for that should go to the casting agent. If he gave a bad performance, then he deserves whatever criticisms come his way. Somehow I don’t think it’s quite fair to blame any actor for missteps and outright atrocities that are beyond his control.

This actor, is he related to Putin?
Almost same looks.

James Bond is a comic book character. Anyone who acted as Bond does would be grabbed in 5 minutes, spilling his guts in 10, and dead in 15. I stopped going to these movies because I annoyed people with my uncontrollable laugher.

While I was a skeptic of Craig falling into this role when they made the announcement, I think that he has filled the role well. From the clips I have seen online and the trailer that has been on recently I am looking forward to him playing Bond.
I must point out also, that Bond is (no matter who plays him) a metro! This is not a Craig charactertistic but a characterisitic of the character. I have seen many of Craig’s films also, and have been a great fan of his. I think that he is a strong actor that is brining a higher level of acting to the role.

I love your politics, Debbie, but you couldn’t be more wrong about the new Bond film. I saw “Casino Royale” tonight and it’s going to be a MONSTER hit. And Daniel Craig is going to be a SUPERSTAR. He’s simply great. How could you possibly call him “scrawny”??? He’s the buffest, toughest Bond EVER!(Nice to know that you’re a supporter of George Lazenby, btw.)
