Can’t Afford Your Kids’ College? You’re Funding Palestinian Kids’ Scholarships

By Debbie Schlussel

*** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ***

Having trouble making ends meet and helping your kids’ pay for college?  Perhaps you should tell the State Department that you’re a Palestinian.  Then, it’s all taken care of up through the Ph.D. level.

Mostly Muslim Foreign Students Go to School in Michigan Courtesy of US Tax $s

It’s bad enough that this program exists.  Sadly, though, it’s not new.  It’s been going on for years.  And you’re payin’ for it.  And not just for Palestinian students, but students all over the Muslim world.  Hey, who cares if you’re breaking  your back to pay Uncle Sam?  They’re laughing at you all the way to the (West) Bank. Oh, and by the way, this is yet another program beefed up by President Bush, while Obama continues it.

From the P.L.O. News Agency, WAFA (thanks to Dr. Aaron Lerner/IMRA for the tip):

Sending Palestinian Student Delegation to US

JERICHO, August 3, 2010 (WAFA)- The U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem and AMIDEAST met with a group of 55 students in Jericho to prepare them for travel to the United States.

The students included Palestinians from the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and over 20 from the Gaza Strip. The students will be participating in programs funded by the U.S. Department of State, including the Fulbright program, which fully funds study for M.A. or PhD degrees at American universities, and the YES program, which supports one year of study at American high schools.

The U.S. Consul for Press and Public Affairs, Frank Finver, welcomed the students, telling them that, “These programs will help you to develop your abilities and to realize your dreams and ambitions in order to help build the future state of Palestine.” Mr. Finver mentioned that the U.S. Consulate General sends more than 250 students every year to the United States on programs supported by the U.S. Department of State. Three hundred and sixty two Palestinians studied in the United States during the 2009 academic year, a number which the U.S. Government hopes to increase significantly in the coming years in line with President Obama’s desire for increased cultural and educational exchange between the United States and the Middle East.

AMIDEAST Country Director Steve Keller also spoke to the group, noting that AMIDEAST offices can provide information on other U.S. study opportunities and administer a number of programs for Palestinians, including the U.S. Department of State-supported Access Microscholarships program (Access), which provides teenagers with free English language instruction.

As I said, this has been going on for years, since it was dreamed up by President Bush’s minions as a way to show the Islamic world just how much we care . . . and how much we want to grovel to our sworn enemies. Yup, the “counterterrorism President,” Bush. Sorry, but while I want Obama out, I’ll never miss Bush the Islamo-panderer. Not a chance. The photo above features students on the program, who visited with Michigan career politician and RINO Republican sleazebag State Senator Nancy Cassis (Memo to Nancy:  there is no Palestine), while they were here on the same program in 2008:

State Sen. Nancy Cassis, R-Novi, On December 10 2008, welcomed to the state Capitol seven foreign exchange students who received Youth Exchange and Study scholarships from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The students are part of the Youth for Understanding program to help build positive relationships between the U.S. and countries of the Arab and Muslim world. Pictured are Sandy Hatoum from Lebanon, living in Novi; Ayad Amer from Yemen, living in Troy; Nisa Mehr-Un from Pakistan, living in West Bloomfield; Reem Sharha from Palestine, living in West Bloomfield; Adi Wakid from Israel, living in Lake Orion; Andreas Daad from Denmark, living in West Bloomfield; and Ramshah Bukhari from Pakistan, living in Ann Arbor. (12/10/2008)

Your tax dollars at work.  You can’t afford to send your own kids to college.  But the gubmint says you can afford to send kids of HAMAS terrorists and terrorism supporters.  Only in America, baby.

**** UPDATE: A reader writes:

I grew up with Frank Finver. His mother, still living in Chevy Chase, was and remains an extreme leftist, and belonged to “peace” groups which were anti-Israel. Put another way, crudely, she was a complete and total s***head.

Frank Finver has been in the Foreign Service for 30 years. I remember bumping into him in Israel. Either his mother rubbed off on him, or he became a clone of the State Department.

Apparently.

    Wow, you’re a jerk.

Lest we forget, several years ago members of the Palestinian “resistance” attacked a convoy of US officials in Gaza to promote their Fullbright scholarship program. Several Americans were killed in that attack.

When I was studying at the U of Michigan in the mid-1970s, there was a notable presence of Arabs and Iranians in the graduate engineering program. But at least then most were here on their country’s dime. (They were then, as now, flush with oil generated cash.)

Debbie this is bad. However even worse is that Israel built entire Universities for them and allows many of them to study at Israeli Universities. I guess Dhimmi-ism is an Israeli export to the US.

I_AM_ME on August 3, 2010 at 3:28 pm

How delightful. A real degree for use in a fake country…nice. This makes me absolutely livid, especially since I cannot even find a mere pittance for myself and my studies.

cirrus1701 on August 3, 2010 at 3:47 pm

It is true that Falsistinians have their own universities but the Arabs who study in Israeli Universities, e.g. Hebrew U, Ben Gurion and even Bar Ilan, are Israeli citizens and as such entitled to that benefit. A few, a very few have even served in the IDF. Whether this should be is another issue but if we did deny them education because of ethnicity, we would deserve the designation of “apartheid state.”

As I write, from the North, I am hearing IAF activity. No explosions in this area however.

JeffE on August 3, 2010 at 10:35 pm

Thank you, JeffE, B’ezrat Hashem, all will be well but I think we can expect a war pretty soon.

      mk750 on August 4, 2010 at 3:05 am

And, of course, terrorists who claim to have been born in Yemen (as did Anwar al-Awlaki) can receive thousands of dollars in “scholarships” so long as they claim they aren’t Americans! Al-Awlaki, a dual citizen of Yemen and the US (he is yet another anchor baby — when is the Constitution of the US, the 14 Amendment, going to be revised?), claimed his Yemeni status, and thus got a grant from US taxpayers…otherwise, as “just” an American, he wouldn’t have received funding!

J.S. on August 3, 2010 at 3:58 pm

I had to pay my way through college and university. Uncle Sam never paid me a dime. But its good news to know those who hate us receive an American education courtesy of our taxes.

It might be worth it if they came away with feelings of appreciation for America. Fat chance of that happening with all the leftist professors here teaching them America is the font of all the world’s evils. In other words, the same thing they are taught back at home.

America: not serious about stopping Islamic immigration here.

NormanF on August 3, 2010 at 4:15 pm

Will they dance and hand out candy after the next 911 style attack. Of course the media has destroyed the video of this.

madman on August 3, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Scholarships given to foreign students from friendly or neutral countries make sense. However, why offer such a benefit to individuals and nations that find the United
States odious. Let them attend their own domestic institions or those in in countries that are friendly with them.

Since the US government is in such a tizzy over it’s budget maybe questions should be directed to them to limit expenditure ($400 billion annually) on the Iraq and Afghanistan war.

But then again if the US was not involved in those countries militarily how would the US get the oil ….. hmmmm …… so maybe butter up those Arabs so that the US wins the war of hearts and minds and give them scholarships to the US.

If I were you I would demand that my democratic government completely get out of the Arab World and start spending US tax payer money on Americans and their employment rather than wars that span decades (here we go again Vietnam)

SRA2010 on August 4, 2010 at 7:09 am

I, for one, think it’s great when underprivileged youngins get the chance to learn. These poor kids aren’t terrorists– they’re kids. Here you are, hating on school children. And you complain when people are anti-semitic?! hypocrite. What about the $ the US sends to Israel? Did you forget about that? The US is paying for the bulldozers that demolish Palestinians’ homes, and you complain when a handful of Palestinian kids are taught English? Unreal.

Jurney on August 4, 2010 at 8:38 am

Jurney well dont try to reason with them they are blind to their hatred,to be honest they also complain how america is turning facist while they are racist facists themselfs.I like comming one here just because the stupid blog posts which make me laugh and question the morality and stupidity of people.

      Trumpeldor

You aint too smart are you,he just commented on what she does and what does she do? She spreads hate and racism against people she doesent like in this case muslims. She stigmatizes every muslim by calling every single one of them terrorrist enablers and backstabbers.Thats what the nazi movement did against the jewish people , so in her case its even worse since she could know better about spreading hate.

Nm on August 4, 2010 at 3:48 pm

        Nm,

No I am not too smart but I know muslims spread wars and murders on this planet since 634 AD
Debbie is a great soul !

          Trumpeldor

Actually i believe Christians hold the torch for most wars and killings(2ww,crusades,…).Do your history before you say stupid stuff. And for Debbie i could not say if shes a good human being because i dont know her personaly, but from the stuff she writes and talks i dont believe she is a ^great soul^ i would rather say troubled since she must have alot of hate bottled up .

Nm on August 4, 2010 at 4:31 pm

          Nm,

Christian crusades were reactions to muslim jihad !
Huge killings in India by Muslims overtake those by christians and as a Jew,I do know what I am talking about….
Suffice to look at the world map and see the extent of muslim conquests from their mere peninsula base !
These conquests,at the tip of the sword were made againt Jews, all North African Peoples,Hindus, Budhists, mazdeans,Nestorians
I love History and I will stop to answer to your jihadist ranting.

Trumpeldor on August 5, 2010 at 3:31 am

The Government takes one third of my annual earnings and this is what I get in return? We pay for our enemies extensive and expensive education while American children learn how to put on a condom, use hairgel and chase orgasms. This country is in big trouble.

Farmerjohn on August 4, 2010 at 12:42 pm

    Dear Trumpeldor

Your knowledge of history is apauling. The crusades were fought because they wanted more land, and since you just think it was only against muslims,it was also against slavs, jews, greek orthodox …the list goes on.
Moving on :my jihadist ranting you say ey? Well well well this has prooven that the majority of Debbies followers are nothing more but a racist bunch.I aint religious and i hate terrorism but on the other side i also hate hate mongoring people, racist people and so on.Maybe you should see now why debbie is so unpopular , you know why ? WELL it might be because she spreads lies, racism and hate.Guess what stuff like that started the 2ww.And before you start calling me a muslim, terrorist, communist you know all those words you guys along Debbie call people who oppose you or have different religions or are just not agreing with you,oh wait thats most of the human race, you should read up on your history,on your tolerance and best of all you should stop the hate and actually do something usefull.

you know what, i used to be a YES student and yes, i am from palestine, and none of this bullshit is true, we come to the states to exchange our cultural knowledge, and then go home with better thoughts about the states, but you know what? there will always be people like you, who try to ruin this good image about the states.

Unknown on October 18, 2010 at 10:50 am

I was a Lebanese exchange student in Illinois for the school year 2009/2010 and I knew, after I read your article Debbie, that you really misunderstand everything. First, you call Palestinians terrorists because they resist the Israel’s domination over their own land since 1948. George Washington did the same: he resisted the enemies who tried to keep his land. Plus, Muslims are not terrorists. The ones you see on T.V murduring other people (such as Bin Laden) are extremists and do not follow Islam but change it to their own different religion. The Muslim exchange scholars go to the U.S to show ignorant people like you (people who don’t really know) what is it really about in the middle east where you think there are Hitlers ruling the lands and suicide bombers everywhere. That is wrong, and that is why we go to the U.S so the American people would know the truth about us, but apparently, unfortunately for us, some people do not want to know the truth. I hope that you Debbie will visit Lebanon sometime to see that it is a very beautiful place. I also hope that I have changed the minds of many people after they read this. Thank you

Hammad Jammal on October 18, 2010 at 1:51 pm

If it pisses debbie off, n some others, well i am glad that my scholarship pisses some ignorant people like yall! 🙂
but what i really know is that my scholar sure didnt piss off my REPUBLICAN host family (whom gave me the chance to experience thanksgivin for example n who were more than happy to buy my ticket back to the states for a visit 2 months ago) and my friends who actually know what a so called “ARAB Muslim” or any kinda bullshit yall think about is, which is ME, the guy who likes to sicoalize and party.
Dear debbie, i use to live in the south (SC), n its a great place to live in,y dont u get ur Lil Butt over to the city i use to live in, in SC and ask them about that “Terrorist arab muslim”?
Beisdes, for those who are worried bout where their money goes! Oh lemme give u a hint, n one more key word “CHILD SUPPORT” 😉 u do the maths idiots

Ali Zaydan on October 19, 2010 at 3:10 am

For those who are insulting Debbie—please learn to write in complete sentences. Try proofreading, thanks.

In addition, yes, it does piss me off to give scholarships to jerks who dance and sing while our buildings burned on 9/11. In addition, with all the aid they get, they should be able to fund their own scholarships.

Please note, the above was written with reasonably acceptable grammar. Fragmentation of sentences was done for deliberate effect. Finally, don’t use Southern contractions or slang unless you know how to spell them. For example, Mr. Zaydan, y’all is spelled like this if you’re referring to the Alabama y’all. It’s a contraction, although admittedly an unorthodox one. “Socialize” is spelled like this. Use in a sentence: It’s fairly obvious you went to college to socialize and party; thus, a scholarship was wasted on you.

Occam's Tool on November 16, 2010 at 1:08 pm

Debbie, you make me sick. You’re a racist, and you don’t get to use your Jewish heritage and religion as a means to attack other cultures and religions. As Jews, we ought to understand the ramifications of genocide. You, lady, are a raging hypocrite and you make me sick.
