Celebrate “Muslim Family Day” @ Six Flags on . . . September 12th?!

By Debbie Schlussel

So, it’s the middle of the summer, and your family and kids need something to do.  You decide to take them to an amusement park.  Best to avoid Six Flags . . . unless you’re Muslim.  If you are, the red carpet is rolled out on the most interesting of dates, September 12th.  I’m sure that this is the day after 9/11 is just coincidence, right?

sixflagsmuslimfamilyday

sixflagsmulsimfamilyday2 copy

They’ve had Muslim day at other Six Flags parks before (and I’ve written about it–employees were told not to wear shorts, “out of respect” for Islam). And that’s objectionable enough. But the date is just rubbing our faces in it. Check out the Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor, Chicago events calendar, above (thanks to Pat Campbell of KFAQ and Joe Scialfa of WTMJ for the tip).  They do have “Catholic Family Day,” too, not just “Muslim Family Day.”  But the whole thing is ridiculous, especially the day for Muslim Family Day.  I have a few questions:

1)  Why the heck does any amusement park have special days based on religion?

2)  Will they have Hari Krishna Family Day?  Wiccan Family Coven Day?  Jonestown, Guyana Survivor Family Day?  Why Not?  Why are they discriminating against these religions, yet honoring Muslim families?  Do they have to murder 3,000 Americans using planes and try it again using underwear, in order to get recognition?

3)  How will they enforce discounts or whatever they’re giving or doing for the Muslim Family Day?  What if I go to Six Flags and claim I’m Muslim?  Will they make me recite suras from the koran to prove it?  Or show them how to convert a cellphone into an IED?

4)  Who picked the 9/12 date for Muslim Family Day and why?  Is it to show us that the day after the date of the attacks they are not only still here but growing in population and pandered to by places like Six Flags?

5)  Why can’t they combine Muslim Family Day with the event after it, since they seem kind of redundant?  Yes, I’m “SNICKERing.”

Hmmm . . . maybe they should change the name from Six Flags to Hamza [“Five,” in Arabic] Flags, since hamza/five is a good luck number in Islam.

How come every large islamic group like Nothe America islamic group CAIR, the muslim trying to build the mosque in new York, all have radical ties. what does this say about islam people. How can anybody trust any muslims. It sounds to me that the whole religion is the problem. YOu see this over and over again. When is the west going to wake up?

Ron on July 20, 2010 at 3:53 pm

Wow this article is completely ridiculous, I think you need to get it through your head that the actions of some people are not representitive of entire religions. You have absolutely nothing productive to do with your time do you I suggest educating yourself

R: What’s truly ridiculous is an uneducated dhummi like you telling me to educate myself. In fact, the majority of Muslims openly support HAMAS and Hezbollah. Get that through your thick skull. Incredible that 9 years later, you’re still parroting the idiotic BS about Islam that no-one believed b/c it was baloney. DS

All that Religion Of Peace and all that. Debbie has yet to be proven wrong. And moreover, why this special pandering to Islam? We don’t see a “Jewish Family Day” or a “Christian Family Day.” And why not? What makes Muslims deserving of special treatment. Yup, I’d say its more than a coincidence, alright!

NormanF on July 19, 2010 at 3:44 pm

There are multiple reasons to question this date chosen for Muslims. 9/11 shares an anniversary with decisive battle at the Gates of Vienna which took place on 11th and 12th September 1683. Vienna had been besieged by the Ottomans and marked the beginning of end of Islam’s threat to Europe.

The large-scale battle was won by Polish-Austrian-German forces led by King of Poland John III Sobieski against the Ottoman Empire army commanded by Grand Vizier Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha.

It’s all absurd. i note there is seasonal “Catholic Family” Day. Maybe they can put it on 9/12 and we can watch the Muslims go nuts. How about Pork workers of America Day on 9/12 too. Craziness.

Moi on July 19, 2010 at 3:48 pm

So if I go on 9/12 and wear a kippah, does Six Flags they not let me in? Do they provide me and my family with protection?

Curiouser on July 19, 2010 at 3:49 pm

I would think that some of the looser fitting robe-type wear (chador, niqab, etc.) would be a grave safety concern on some of those rides.

cirrus1701 on July 19, 2010 at 4:09 pm

At least they also have Home School Day. We have bigger fish to fry.

JeffT on July 19, 2010 at 4:12 pm

1) The park does not have special days based on religion. The park is closed on certain days and allows itself to be rented out to private organizations, including religious organizations, whether Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, or, yes, even the Hare Krishnas.

2) It’s not discrimination so long as every private group has equal access. On the other hand, it definitely would be discrimination to not allow a Muslim organization to rent out the park.

3) I imagine you have to be a member or guest of the Islamic Circle of North America, the private organization sponsoring the event.

4) September is the prime month for these events at Six Flags. The ICNA was actually renting Six Flags across the country at or around this exact date before 9/11 even happened. They even stopped doing so for two years after 9/12 so people wouldn’t say hateful and slanderous things about them.

5) You are a hateful and ignorant person. You also are not funny. Not at all.

NH: Ah, ICNA, the group that openly supports HAMAS and Hezbollah and is under investigation for terrorist fundraising/financing. How nice that Six Flags has no prob doing business with them. DS

N.H. on July 19, 2010 at 4:58 pm

Well, definitely the 9/12 date is a slap in the face to all Americans. I wonder if the Muslims actually wanted 9/11 & Six Flags nixed that? Just like the mosque at the WTC is a slap in the face at all Americans (although I understand that opposition now is symbolic), they may have actually wanted 9/11, just like they wanted to put up a grotesque mosque at the site of their terrorist actions.

But one argument in favor of the Muslims having their day. Most of the other Six Flag days are really stupid, (although Home School Day makes a lot of sense). For all we know, Six Flags management really thinks most of these days are silly, so they may have figured one more stupid day wouldn’t have mattered. And the dollar reigns supreme. They do have a lot of kids, after all.

@wtd That movie is a silly little bs.

Author of that movie is quite uneducated.
It was not a mere calvary, but hussars and that was a special kind of heavy calvary that should be named properly.
Hussars was a professional army with extreme combat experience. Many hussars had almost 20 years of combat experience. Wars of those time were unlike anything today. Soliders saw their enemies face to face.
Current combat experience of modern armies cannot compare to hussars experience and mental strenght gained after “just” 5 years of their professional duty.

That battle was not allied operation, but it was siege break done by John III Sobieski after pope and emperor pleaded him for help. Polish forces broke ottoman lines quite easy and took their camp by suprise.

In those times mercenaries had the right to leave battlefield without punishment if they faced hussars.

Muslim Day at Six Flags is to celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan, the month of fasting which the dates change from year to year based on a lunar calandar. So I suppose the Muslims control the cycle of the moon too. It is a Muslim holiday that Six Flags is associated with – do some homework.

M: If this was truly to celebrate the end of Ramadan, they wouldn’t be able to schedule it so far ahead. In fact, right now, Muslims don’t even know the exact start or end date of Ramadan. There’s usually confusion until at least a month before, based on when some imams decide it falls based on the moon. And your comment conflicts with NH, above, who claims this Muslim Family Day falls on 9/12 every year. So, one of you is lying. DS

Well, I’m trying to figure out whether N. H. is a Six Flags flunky or CAIR flunky.

Debbie had a list of days, and contrary to N.H. many were not in September. They were scattered evenly through the summer.

Allows the park to be rented? So they don’t take any responsibility for the rentee? Come on now. We all know they wouldn’t rent to the Ku Klux Klan. Of course they exercise discretion in who has ‘days’ there, because the ‘days’ project an image of the park.

Closed on certain days? Debbie listed the commerative days, and their is no special day of the week. “Days” are scattered randomly; so much for the fiction of ‘renting’ the park. If all ‘days’ were on Sunday, or Tuesday, or something like that, maybe the argument would be plausible, but not when they’re randomly scattered.

And of course N.B. doesn’t consider, how much of the proceeds are going to hezbollah or hamas? Either N.B. supports this destination for the profits, or is too stupid to think about it.

Little Al on July 19, 2010 at 5:33 pm

Six Flags will announce that all proceeds from Muslim Family Day will be donated to the families of the victims of 9/11.

What good for the goose is good for the gander. I’m curious about the signifigance of the Muslim Family Festival’s date: this year Ramadhan run from August 12th to September “9th.”

Great Avenue should have the intestinal fortitude to take bookings for a- ‘Deus lo volt!’ (“God wills it!”), day especially during the Ramadhan season or, anytime?

Muslim family day should be combined with the Fright Fest…same difference if you ask me.

Lets just start celebrating 9/12 as pathological fruit cake day. We all agree to eat pork and fart in the direction of Mecca on that day.

Does Daniel Snyder owner of the Redskins still own Six Flags?

Wiki

Snyder’s father was a freelance Jewish writer who wrote for United Press International and National Geographic[citation needed], and he was raised and schooled mostly in nearby Maryland. Snyder took his first job at B. Dalton Bookseller at the age of 14.

Nope they were kicked out by the new Board.

Anon on July 20, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Debbie, you know I’ve taken a strong day in opposition to Muslim extremism. However, I’ve got no problem with there being a Muslim Family Day any more than I do with the Catholic Family Day two weeks before. I don’t know if there is a Jewish Family Day or not, but I’d be supportive of that as well.

Given that the day falls on the first weekend after the end of Ramadan and you can be sure that it will be done by September 12, given lunar cycles) and its associated fasting, I think that September 12 is the best date. After all, would you have preferred that they place it on the Saturday of that weekend — September 11? Or are you instead proposing that Muslims cower in fear during the entire month of September, like Russian Jews during a pogrom?

If i may make use of an apocryphal quote from Freud — “sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.” And in this instance, all we have here is a cigar.

By the way, I worked at that particular park 25 years ago while in college. And having grown up in the area (my dad was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center for the last part of his career, and then retired there), I recall a great many such days, including “Military Family Day” when the base rec office sold tickets at a really steep discount. Same with the Catholic Family Day — the local parishes all got cheap tickets and we Catholic kids flooded the park. So anyone who is not Muslim will be permitted in the park — and yes, that includes a group of Jews in kippahs.

You have got to be kidding me!!! Is this for real? How about we “celebrate” Sept 11th and the destruction of our World Trade Centers, OMG! This country is going to the pot!

Debbie B on July 19, 2010 at 9:37 pm

Unbelievable! Let me know when “pedophile family day” is there, or maybe “white supremacist family day”.

I think there should be some special rides for the terrorist family day. How about ..Bury your loved one in the sand and throw rubber bricks at them. Pretend its real..win a rubber pig for putting out an eye.
..The SUICIDE BOMBER ride..its Explosive!!!
..Fly a plane into a building, simulator. Get points for killing Americans. Win enough points and you get to pray at the new mosque at ground zero…
..theres more..but I’m sending them direct to 6 flags so I can get the money when they accept them.
Heres a hint for the moronic goon at 6 flags that scheduled this…You should schedule KKK family day at the same time.

From ICNA’s website, an excerpt on the history of Muslim Family Day: “The tragic events of 9/11 that resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives, also affected this event directly. The chief organizer, Tariq Amanullah, who worked on the 96th floor of WTC, Tower 2, passed away.”

And here I thought three thousand innocent people were murdered, but it seems Muslim Family Day’s chief organizer only “passed away” instead.

I am truly baffled by this. First off, just the fact that any company could pander to a single group of people, is just outrageous. It only promotes segregation. Second, to do this, and the day after 9/11…well, it’s just plain wrong. As a New Yorker, and an American, I am deeply offended by this. I was against the idea of the Empire State Building showing colors to represent Mother Theresa, only because if we honor one religious figure, where does it end? This is very similar. But muslims are a sore spot for people here. Not all are bad, but we don’t want it shoved down our throats!!! I will now officially boycott six flags, and I will be spreading the word. I hope there’s a protest. I hope it gets coverage!!

Could you folks imagine if it was 1930-1945 and Six Flags had this event called “American Nazi Party Day”? If something like that occured during WWII, then half of the population wouldn’t exist today, and we all would be speaking german or be a large piece of lampshade. As Debbie said, she has reported this story on this website for years, and this is not the first time that she reported this on this site. From what I’ve been seeing is that ever since 9/11/01 we have become too PC to islam, especially the politicans from both parties and also their fellow-travelling freinds from the far left wing establishment cabal!

“A nation is identified by it’s borders, language & culture!”

Sean R. on July 20, 2010 at 2:01 pm

I must confess, I’m a bit confused about this entire article. I checked out Six Flags’ website, and am still not clear on one specific (and key) detail: Is this a day when Islamic organizations all get together and rent the park for private use, or is it merely another day that is open to the general public, in which Islamic organizations who have registered in advance get a cheaper group discount rate? This question, of course, would also apply to ALL of Six Flags’ “Theme” days. If it is the former, I really have nothing to say, except I hope extra security is hired, lest a violent confrontation break out between the Shiites and Sunis, thus endangering the lives of the innocent minimum wage employees operating the switches on all the rides (who might get caught in the crossfire in their uncomfortable long sleeves and trousers).

If, however, the parks are also open to the general public on that day as well, I’m wondering how non-Muslims would be viewed by the Islamic majority of park goers. Would dress codes apply to them as well? And if not, would female patrons, not wearing hijabs or long sleeves have to endure being sneered at all day?

As a side note, there’s something else I’m intrigued by, and that’s “Catholic Family Day” and “Home School Day.” How would they be different from any other day at the park? To the best of my knowledge, those aren’t organizations that involve any special dress codes or dietary laws.

Finally, I’d just like to mention that back in the 1980s, there was a roller rink that I would occasionally go to here in the Los Angeles area. Tuesdays they had “Christian” night, and Thursdays they had “Gay” night. Having no intention of going there on either one of those evenings, I once, out of curiosity, asked the girl in the ticket booth exactly what went on after 7:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She informed me that basically, the only difference was the music that was played over the P.A. system. On Tuesdays, it was mainly christian rock, and on Thursdays, lots of broadway show tunes. She also pointed out that there were many regulars who used to go there on both evenings, for whatever reason (probably because they liked both of those musical genres, although there could’ve also been a few Ted Haggards amongst the patronage).

Thanks for blowing our cover, DS! The plan was to lure muzzies in with promises of free halal candy and a camel kissing booth, then have the catholics ambush them when they assemble for one of their incessant prayer whingdings. Now, we’ll be lucky if they don’t behead us all!

Graty Slapchop on July 20, 2010 at 5:05 pm

If we want to be noticed by our beliefs, then we need to stick together.
We can have a National Christian Day at Six Flags. If there are enough
of us and we reserve the park for that event.
The park in the New England area is having their Muslim Family Day on Sept 18th.
Check out the Six Flags site. Also, remember, it is a numbers game.
When we love children and uphold Marriage and family and living Christianity,
we should be happy we are doing God’s will. He will bless.
We need to win the Muslims to the Truth. The only Truth of Jesus Christ.
