Incredible: Top Rapper Brags to Fans About Luxe Prison Life @ Rikers

By Debbie Schlussel

I have a feeling Lindsay Lohan won’t have it any worse in “prison” than popular rapper “Lil Wayne” a/k/a “Weezy” a/k/a Dwayne Carter.

lilwayne

In May, I told you about Lil Wayne’s last pre-prison interview, in which he bragged to a magazine about being the father to four kids by four different women (and, of course, he’s married to none of them).  But he’s managed to top his previous chutzpah level. Now, this glorified thug is serving a year at Rikers Island for weapons charges.  But apparently life is good for Lil Wayne.  In a letter to his fans, posted on his website, Carter details his day.  While you are hard at work, he’s suffering the tough prison sentence of  . . . sleeping until 11:00 a.m., reading fan mail, talking on the phone, and listening to ESPN radio. For Lil Wayne, “hard time” is more like “easy time.”  No wonder he entitles it, “As Time Flies.”

Letter #04: As Time Flies

Hello world… I’m good. Counting the days and still smiling. Most of those smiles come from hearing my kids’ voices over the phone. The others come from reading fan mail. Let me just say that I have the best fans in the world! The devotion, dedication, support, love, and most of all, prayers are simply the best. I never imagined that I could have such an impact on people’s lives. . . .

So I’ve been writing and let me be the first to tell you that the lyrics that I’m writing are… well there’s no word that I can think of that properly defines them. Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair. I listen to the radio sometimes, emphasis on sometimes, and I hear the new music. I like some. I applaud my Young Money family for what they’re doing. As I’m not surprised. This is what we’re supposed to do. Congrats to Drake and Nicki for all their recent success. Those 2 are going to have me retiring early. . . . I know that people are inquisitive of what I do all day, so here goes. I wake up around 11AM. Have some coffee. Call my kids, and my wonderful mother. I then shower up. Read fan mail. Have lunch. Back on the phone. Read a book or write some thoughts down. Have dinner. Phone. Pushups. Then I listen to ESPN on the radio. Read the bible, then sleep. That’s my day.

I’ll end this letter, but never my love. I’m gone. Oh, and how ‘bout dem Lakers!?!

P.S. I thank my fans for appreciating me the way you do.

Tunechi.

[Emphasis added by DS.]

Wow, tough life.  Is this really why they get street cred for serving prison time . . . for drinking coffee, reading books, and talking on the phone to mom?!  Do all prisoners at Rikers have it this easy?  If so, why?  And, if not, why is he getting special treatment? When she was in prison, Martha Stewart got up at 5:00 a.m. and was forced to work doing menial tasks like laundry and kitchen duty.

In case Carter’s lax life doesn’t disgust you enough, as my friend, Detroit Newsistan music critic Adam Graham notes, Lil Wayne will release an EP in September, while he’s still in “jail.”

I’m not sure what else people do all day in jail…do other jails have some kind of daily schedule where inmates have to get up at a certain time? And I’m fairly certain most inmates are allowed to have some small personal possessions like radios, so I don’t think he’s getting preferential treatment there.

Dude McDuderson on July 14, 2010 at 10:54 am

[DS:Wow, tough life.]

I don’t think Lil’ Wayne’s getting special treatment. It sounds like the standard prison life to me. I don’t know exactly what else people want him to do in prison. Wake up at 5 am?

Consider Li’ Wayne to be blessed.

Had he pulled the stunt in the PRC, he’d be long dead.

The "Reverend" Jacques on July 14, 2010 at 11:19 am

In most prisons (I do not know about jails), people have to wake up at 4:30 or 5:00 am. The prison takes a head count. At 5:30 am or 6:00 am, there is breakfast.

Another head count about 11:30 am, then lunch, another head count at 3:00 or 3:30 pm, dinner starts between 4:30 p.m -5:30 pm, and lights out about 9:00 or 10:00 pm.

If little jerk, err, Wayne is not lying, it explains why there is so much violence at Rikers. But then Rikers was the jail that had a radical Islamic religious leader paid for by the State of New York, so why should we be surprised?

What a thug wants, what a thug needs.

Bottles in da club…err pokey.

They should make him do dirty work

Jacqueline Hanna Youssef on July 14, 2010 at 11:42 am

Club Med for rappers. For them, prison is like a rite of passage. Being a good ol’ Bad Boy gets you more street cred! No wonder Lil Wayne seems to be a happy dude, indeed!

Hey Black Racist,Prissy crybabies:

WHAT “Racism”?
WHAT “Systematic Oppression”?
WHAT “No Justice,Just Us”?
WHAT “Slavery”?

Against BLACKS? WHERE?

Phineas on July 14, 2010 at 12:25 pm

I live in a very white rural area that is, in many ways in a time warp. We have some blacks moving down here. To get away from black people. They like it just fine.

Is “lil wayne” the same rapper who used to be “lil bow-wow”?

Quorum on July 14, 2010 at 1:10 pm

I don’t really believe this little rapper. In most state prisons there is a wake up time and a lights out time, unless guards are being bribed to look the other way.

Oscar on July 14, 2010 at 1:12 pm

I know very little about rap — it’s certainly not a favorite music genre of mine — and even less about Lil Wayne. What struck me most about the message is just how coherent it is. Is this possible for a,presumably, gangsta type dude? Did he receive various college degrees whilst previously incarcerated? Does he possibly have a degreed ghost writer? Am i giving him too little credit? Am a i crypto racist? One wonders 🙂

drakke1 on July 14, 2010 at 1:13 pm

From the pretty reliable stories I’ve heard about this guy over the years then of course he loves it in prison. I’m sure he misses those mouth kisses (no, they are really “mafia kisses”) with Birdman though.

Maliki on July 14, 2010 at 1:31 pm

I do not listen to rap, nor do I know the names of any of the people who are involved in creating this “art form.” I will say this much though…At least this guy is honest about the tax-funded hospice he’s currently residing at (the only reason I would call it a “hospice” instead of a “bed & breakfast,” is because of the communal showers).

Contrast this attitude to the likes of O.J. Simpson and Phil Spector, who in every interview, are always whining about the cramped quarters and lousy food. I guess they could be living under slightly harsher conditions, having actually caused considerable mayhem with their weapons, instead of merely brandishing them.

Incidentally, on a funny note, Jack Abramoff is now out of prison, and is currently working in a kosher pizza parlor in Baltimore. I am not being facetious. Apparently the place is run by a group of hassidic Jews who took pity on him, because they knew that nobody else would touch him with a 20 foot pole.

Daniel H on July 14, 2010 at 1:42 pm

Jeez. At least he reads his Bible. It doesn’t humble the little freak or point him in the right direction, of course. Chutzpah is just incredible in America in the 21st Century.

Skunky on July 14, 2010 at 2:35 pm

Jack Abramhoff did nothing different from the tens of thousands of other lobbyists in this town. Absoultely nothing. If his name was Kelly and less successful at his craft, no one would have ever heard of him.

Jgrant on July 14, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Wow. Look who’s making excuses now.

Oscar on July 14, 2010 at 3:30 pm

Weezy must have kicked his cough syrup addiction in the bighouse, so maybe he is feeling better- despite his looks he is not unintelligent, and yes can read and write. At least he does believe in the Bible and none of us are so sin-free to throw stones at him – at least he isn’t whining that he was unjustly incarcerated, acting a victim, he accepted he did wrong and paying for it- that is repentance, no man or God asks for more-
And we see no Panther or Sharpton demonstrations or pleas.

No he is not Bow Wow- Wayne has a sucessful music company and he is offering a hand up to to others- the guy DWAYNE he is funding and promoting is a JEWISH guy from Canada-

Isahiah62 on July 14, 2010 at 3:42 pm

sorry I meant DRAKE

Isahiah62 on July 14, 2010 at 3:44 pm

Maybe they let Weezy phone in his head count.

Sam Adams on July 14, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Reading the Bible. The guy is in prison, & it’s to his advantage to try to present an image to the authorities that will get him out as fast as possible. Hopefully at some point the Muslim prison population will be segregated, but I don’t really expect that, given the pro-Muslim policies of the Government and associated elite.

Little Al on July 14, 2010 at 7:15 pm

I know prisons. Yes, most inmates have it that good. Seriously, they don’t have to work, get up at a certain time or really make too much effort to clean their room. Why do you think they have a recidivism rate of about 80%. In California they even get CONJUGAL VISITS at level 2. I always said if the citizenry knew about how easy it was for thugs they’d burn the places down. I wish somebody would at least get some bills passed about harder time. The ACLU has seen to it their time has gotten easier and easier.

samurai on July 14, 2010 at 10:07 pm

What’s not to like about a roof over your head, free medical care and three meals a day – which honest folks are paying for? Wayne’s disclosure shows prison is no longer punishment. Its more of a nursing home for the down and hard out of luck in life.

NormanF on July 14, 2010 at 11:49 pm

Norman, they’re evil for the most part. Not just out of work with bills to pay and kids to get through college. Geeeez. Once in a while the odd guy who messed up once gets arrested but these days when you make it to prison, you are in the ivy leagues of scumbag city.

samurai on July 15, 2010 at 2:01 am

Samurai, my point is prison should be hard time, it should be punishment. How do you get evil guys to change their ways if its more pleasant behind bars than it is with life on the outside? No wonder the recidivism rate is so high.

NormanF on July 15, 2010 at 2:42 am

Norm, couldn’t agree more. Like I said the ACLU and a list of other scumbag based orgs have taken the teeth out of the system for hardened criminals.

samurai on July 15, 2010 at 9:51 pm

And this is why I don’t listen to pop music at all (only pop music I listen to is heavy metal, but I only listen to that once in a while), the only music I listen to is Country-Western music from the 1920s-1950s, country music back in those days was excellent, had great ryhthm, and was very up-tempo, by the time country music changed in the late 1950s, it started to sound too chorusy, very low-tempo, ie, the Nashville sounding (which I am NOT a fan of the Nashville sounding in country music), and I’m NOT interested in Contemporary Country music, about half of it is too whiny, moany, very low-tempo and also too much like southern rock music. And I also listen to Big Band Jazz music from the Swing era, etc.

“Jack Abramhoff did nothing different from the tens of thousands of other lobbyists in this town. Absoultely nothing.”

Do all these other lobbyists also commit wire fraud?

Not to say that Abramoff didn’t pay for his crimes: millions of dollars – something like 80-90% percent of his wealth – paid to the feds or his alleged victims (I say “alleged” because I didn’t find some of the pleas convincing), 3+ years of prison including a mandatory year of hard time, and squealing on now former friends.

“Jack Abramoff is now out of prison, and is currently working in a kosher pizza parlor in Baltimore…Apparently the place is run by a group of hassidic Jews who took pity – ”

Abramoff is in home detention. That means wearing an ankle collar and that the only movements permitted him are those approved – by the probation officer, I guess. Abramoff’s specialty is PR as well as lobbying, so maybe he can help the pizza shop with that.
