Regardless of the “sensitivity training” you may be receiving, I can tell you, as you MUST already know yourselves, that you had better start taking these sorts of things seriously. If you don’t, as you know, people WILL start taking the law into their own hands.
To prevent Mr. Fawaz from having both of his arms broken, or worse, you may want to call or visit his place of employment to enlighten him and his employer a bit on our legal system.
In any event, I definitely think we are headed for a vigilante type situation here in the U.S. I do not think Amaericans will allow themselves to be as subjugated as the Europeans have.

First of all, I don’t know how it happened, and you need not explain, however, I extend my DEEPEST, DEEPEST sympathies to you.
I can’t even imagine what it feels like to be in your shoes, nor do I care to (for obvious reasons). But my heart bleeds for you and your family.
I have read ALL of your posts and EVERY ONE has been “measured”, and well-thought-out. You have always been rational and you are well-versed in current events and history. You have every reason to be angry and miserable, but you have never exhibited any of those emotions in any post that I read. Again, my heart goes out to you for your tragic loss.
I didn’t read the post that you said Debbie deleted. However, I’m sure it was just as equally thought-out and balanced as all of your other posts here.

Some friends of my Italian fiance lived next door to some Pakistani immigrants. The husband beat his wife and then started threatening some of his female Italian neighbors. So a van pulled up in front of his house one day and they beat him up and told him to stop beating his wife. He never laid a hand on her again and he was very polite to the other women in the neighborhood. I’m not saying people should beat up Muslims because they’re Muslim but he learned that barbaric behavior won’t be tolerated in America. Yes, I realize liberals will say violence doesn’t cure violence but as my fiance says every man needs his ass handed to him to figure out he’s not invincible.

As far as the boycott that bruno mentioned earlier goes, I don’t nessecarly agree. My father is middle eastern(though not arabic, iranian)and runs a small italian resturant. i know for a fact that he’s not “sending his money over seas” or anything like that. he’s not very involved in anything poltically, because he really doesn’t have time(he works a full time job in addition to managing the resturant), and he’s actually a christian who loves to watch those televised preachings from joel…whatever his name is from texas. Anyways, point is, he’s an all around good person, and hard work, and just because his skin is darker and he has a slight accent, I don’t think that he should be penalized.

Thanks Thee_Bruno for your kind words. I appreciate that. I think the problem was that I took that email much more seriously than Debbie did because of my own experiences and background. I got mad at her for taking it as she said “comical.” And I implied to her that if she didn’t take things like that seriously then why should we the readers take anything on this site very seriously. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that. But I would hate to see someone get an email like that, brush it off as nothing, then actually get hurt by the creep that sent it. That’s all I meant by what I said.
I agree with alot, if not most, of what Debbie writes on this site but I honestly wish she would publish a “whois” record on the Muslims who keep sending her these types of emails. Think about this: they may be more than just a threat to Debbie, they may be a threat to others as well. Who knows, posting a “whois” record may actually help someone who might be a coworker or fellow student of the creep that sent it which could alert them to be on gaurd. Anyway, that is what I meant though I may have said it the wrong way.

Whois will only reveal who owns the IP address, not who’s paying for the account. So if someone sent it from a college, like was the case a few weeks ago, it’ll only show that they were at the college. Or if someone posted it from home, it’ll show who their ISP is, but no other information. To get more info on who pays for that account, you’d have to file a John Doe Subpeona.

While a whois will reveal ISP addresses and not much more, at least it’s something. If the ISP reveals that it originated from, say, for example, ABC Window Manufacturers, Inc., then an e-mail could be sent to that company making them aware that someone who can possibly be a threat is using the company’s equipment, on comapny time to send threatening e-mails. It’s not perfect, but at least it’s something.

Well, if you’re lucky you’ll get that much information. If they’ll sending emails from a larger company that likely owns their own IP range, you’ll get the company name. But if the company doesn’t need any more than a few Road Runner Business cable modems, you’ll see information for timewarner instead. Whois will only show you the OWNER of the IP address.
Here’s some other information gathering tips that you can use:
1. Google is your friend, as demonstrated by the poster that discovered this guys family tree account. Putting email addresses, or their full in google is probably the first step you should ever do when attempting to grather information on someone.
2. Myspace. With Myspace’s popularity growing by the day in the US, and spreading quickly internationaly, it’s quickly becoming a great tool. Sign up for a myspace account, click on the search button, and pop in their email address. There’s a descent chance they have a profile. If you have their name, you can put that in their too, but it’ll be a bit harder gathering information that way.
3. IP Address. We’ve already discussed WHOIS’ potential benefits and downfalls, but there’s a bevy of other things that you can do with an ip. http://www.dnsstuff.com/ has a bunch of great tools. Also, on your own windows xp computer, if you click start->run->type “CMD”(minus the quotes)->then type in tracert “IP ADDRESS HERE”(again no quotes) you can watch in real time, as your computer attempts to establish the exact route that your ISP takes to get you to the IP address. Often times you can gather geographical information from the results returned. Quick tip: The newest results you get are usually the closest to the actual location of the IP. And usually it’ll give you the general region, but hardly ever the exact location.
Please use this information responsibly.

However, even if the ISP turns out to be “TimeWarner”, they can be notified that their subscriber (even if it is a company) is using their portal for threatening people. The info gathered from a whois could give TimeWarner exactly who that subscriber is. Time Warner can then contact them. I think they have a responsibility to take some action.

That’s the way it should work. Time Warner, being as big as it is, may just brush that off. I know at the company that I work at(we share offices with a regional ISP), if the ISP receives a complaint from one of the major movies studio’s about an IP they’ve found out was downloading movies, we notify them, and tell them the movie company wants them to take it down, but there’s not much else we can do. What it boils down to is you’ll probably get the ISP saying it’s between the law & the company. So really, if you feel you’re really in danger, you should contact the appropriate law inforcement agency, and they can get a ADA or DA or whoever to get the ball rolling on a subpeona for the customer records.
