Just Got Back From Seeing This

By Debbie Schlussel

I just got back from a special critics’ screening of this, “Knight & Day,” starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.  Can’t post my review until the movie comes out mid-next week.  So, stay tuned.  But, for now, watch the trailer:

Don’t you usually post these types of posts about movies you like?

I’ve been watching the fire out of my “From Paris With Love” DVD that came out last week. I liked but not loved it when I saw it at the movies, but I got to where I like it even more the more I watch it.

I hope “Knight and Day” is good since this summer has had very few good movies I’ve wanted to see.

What happened to the summer blockbusters of years past?

This looks like a movie I’ll want to see!

Someone’s insight:

Knight and Day, his new movie, seems like a terrifically entertaining action comedy — the trailers have been cut together nicely, Cruise seems pretty funny in it, and director James Mangold knows how to put together a movie (see 3:10 to Yuma). Could be a big hit this summer. Apparently Fox feels the same way I do, because they’re bumping up the release from Friday, June 25th, to Wednesday, June 23rd.

They say it’s because “reaction to early screenings of the film has been so strong that Fox wants to get a jump on the weekend, as well as further build word-of-mouth,” according to Variety, and while that’s probably overblown publicity talk, it’s certainly not bad news. I could see the movie doing Mr. and Mrs. Smith-style business. And since this summer has been a series of mild let-downs so far, it could benefit from being one of the few movies that’s not.

I hope you won’t take offense, but I’ve always wondered how a lawyer became a movie critic.

It began many many years ago, when Debbie filed a class action suit for movie-goers across America who were fed up with paying the dry cleaning bills for sitting down on theater seats encrusted with spat out black Jujubes…..

Maybe a stress reliever Bo,! I must admit, I like Tom when he is funny, because well, he is funny. The trailer looks good.

It certainly appears to be very realistic (not). A James Bond formula?

Simple answer to all these “blockbusters”…

(Wait ’til pay-per-view.)

Don’t believe the hype. Go with your heart. And wear lots of sunscreen.

How does a lawyer become a movie critic? 2 easy answers would be my guess.

1. Why not?
2. Which would you rather do? Spend a day in court or researching law, taking depositions, etc. or going to the movies?

Not that I let La Deb dictate what I see, but I’ll probably only go see this if she likes it since I don’t care for movies with Cruise or Diaz in them, usually. Since Risky Business, Cruise has been a one note character, the earnest man seeking truth! Cameron Diaz?, yuck! She does nothing for me and to me she is an untalented hack.
