OUTRAGE: Whoopi Goldberg Defends Helen tHAMAS’ Anti-Semitic Remarks

By Debbie Schlussel

Just minutes ago, has-been, unfunny comedienne/actress and co-host of ABC’s hag-fest “The View” defended Hearst White House correspondent Helen Thomas’ urging Jews to “go back to Germany, Poland.”

whoopigoldbergmuppets.jpghelenthomas

Go Back to Muppet (and Ugly) Land

And Goldberg–whose real name is Caryn Elaine Johnson and took the name to mock Jews and get noticed–lied in her defense of Thomas, saying

For many years, there were not Jews in Israel.

Oh, really?  Like when, Whoopi?  In fact, there have been Jews in Israel for thousands of years.  There has always been a Jewish presence in Israel.  To say otherwise is a lie, a falsity.  But I’ll tell you who wasn’t in Israel for centuries:  “Palestinians,” a fake ethnicity made up of Arabic nomads from throughout the Middle East who came to pre-Israel “Palestine” when Jews were the “Palestinians” and brought them paid jobs and resources they didn’t get in their own further outposts in greater Arabia and in their desert wanderings.

Goldberg/Johnson continued to defend Helen Thomas, saying:

It’s both parties’ land. . . . She’s [Helen Thomas] saying you have to talk.

Really?  That’s an interesting interpretation.  Does, “go back to Germany, Poland” sound like “you have to talk”?

And finally, she dismissed it with

Well, people always say, “Go back to Africa.”

Um, Whoopi, do you really think Helen Thomas would still be employed by Hearst if she said that to Black people?  That’s the point.  No one seems to have the same outrage for bigotry against Jews.  There’s much more tolerance for such hatred.

All of this is no surprise, as Goldberg is a Marxist, who said Roman Polanski’s sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl he drugged “wasn’t rape rape,” and doesn’t believe we actually landed on the Moon.

In case you’re wondering, the other ditzes on “The View” didn’t do much of a response to Goldberg/Johnson’s BS.  Vacant faux-conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck said nothing.  Joy Behar agreed with Goldberg/Johnson’s false claim that Jews didn’t live in Israel “for many years” and said that Helen Thomas “could have said it in a nicer way.”

Hmmm . . . what’s a nicer way of saying, “Jews get out!”?  I wonder if Behar, who is Italian, would like it if I said there’s a nicer way of saying, “Go back to Sicily.”

I tell you, I hate to talk about people’s looks as it can be somewhat tacky. But when Ms. Thomas says something as ugly as she did … man, that just magnifies her … uh … ‘to the bone’ ugliness! And Whoopi!? I’ve seen better faces on an iodine bottle!
Did you notice Paul McCartney’s uncanny likeness to Quasimodo?

Wow, I got scared at first! Thought it was a monster. Anyhow, hi Helen! What is she up to now Debbie! I was busy now I have to go read this! 🙂 I wish you had a radio broadcast or sometime of video or audio media on all this stuff.

LOL..Hag Fest? If I could stop laughing long enough when reading your articles I would not have to go back and read it again and again!

Well, IMO this proves once and for all that “Goldberg” is a Nazi. End of story.

Michael H Anderson on June 7, 2010 at 12:15 pm

Why did you have to post that picture of Helen Thomas and Whoopi while I’m eating lunch ????

Shootist on June 7, 2010 at 12:19 pm

Johnsons revisionist history reminds me of not only my many arguments with people just as stupid as her at work and the world, but also that other black goofball she’s on the view with. Whatever her name was had the stance that Christians had been around the longest, etc. You picked it up and put up some hilarious pics of her crammed into her stupid sausage cloths with the dumb look on her face. Public education in the inner cities have been failing for a looooooong time. Not to mention peoples own inner racist cores.

I just received a news alert via email from CNN that Helen Thomas retired over her remarks. Is it too much to hope that “Goldberg/Johnson” is next?

I_AM_ME on June 7, 2010 at 12:29 pm

How people watch this show is beyond me. Only when people turn off and tune out this garbage will ABC get it. BTW not that it matters but Behar claims to be married to a Jewish “Man”. Maybe he is very, very near sighted. Probably hard of hearing too

One Irish Jew on June 7, 2010 at 12:32 pm

What a vicious hag Helen Thomas is. I hope she’s fired. Pronto.

“Behar” screams Jewish, she should changer her name.

Rachel on June 7, 2010 at 12:39 pm

Well now Helen will have time to date MEL GIBSON. Wouldn’t they be a pair! They can drink and curse Jews all day.

Fred on June 7, 2010 at 12:43 pm

Actually, she is just about the right age to be dating Mel’s father…Another one who’s too stupid to keep his racist views to himself when someone aims a microphone at him.

    Daniel H on June 7, 2010 at 12:52 pm

Just another example of a supposed journalist becoming the story instead of reporting the facts. Obviously it is time for Helen to retire. I will be interested to see how many people put this woman up on a pedestal and martyr her.

Musiccgirl on June 7, 2010 at 12:46 pm

And where would they tell Jews from Arab lands to go back to? Ah, that famous tolerance of the Islamic World. You can tell they love Jews so much there after they drove them all that they still hate Jews in societies that don’t have a single Jew living in them!

There’s a lot of talk of Islamophobia. There’s very little recognition of the persistence, depth and universal nature of the world’s oldest hatred. In Whoopi Goldberg’s comments, we see that anti-Semitism is still the last remaining politically correct form of bigotry on earth. No one seems to mind it. Any other hatred – and Helen Thomas couldn’t apologize enough to save her high-profile White House job.

NormanF on June 7, 2010 at 12:52 pm

Whoopi Goldberg should hang out with Helen Thomas all the time. Whoopi is good looking next to this witch!
The American public likes to hide behind its anti-semitism, merely, by saying, I’m anti-israel not anti-semitic. It’s easy for everyone to hate the jews. It’s been going on for centuries and people are comfortable with it.

Hello Debbie Schlussel and All
Maybe Helen Thomas and whoopi goldberg should read history?

135CE Roman Emperor Hadrian sent 12 divisions under Julius Severus to quell the Jewish rebellion led by Simon Bar Kokhba, who was killed at Bethar. An estimated 600,000 Jews were killed. Hadrian ordered Jerusalem plowed under and Aelia Capitolina was built on the site. He barred Jews from returning and survivors dispersed across the empire. Judea was renamed Syria-Palestina.

Just a thought.

INFINITE on June 7, 2010 at 1:28 pm

Yes, you show that anti-Semitism has existed for thousands of years. There was also the occupation of Jerusalem under the Babylonians, the Assyrians and the Medo-Persians but the remnant of the Jews has never been destroyed. The majority of the Christians for the 1st and 2nd Century (the time-frame you are referencing) were also Jewish. The city has been given different names by different occupiers, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Jewish people continued to exist there throughout all of recorded history in spite of whatever barbaric opposition and mistreatment they have received.

Great article as usual Debbie, Debbie, I wouldn’t be surprised if that hag-fest the View has low-ratings, and I’m assuming the View has low-ratings, it wouldn’t surprise me if the View isn’t on the air 5-10 years from now! The reason I said that it’s not that the show is “liberal/far left wing”, it’s because we the american people know who these creatures from the black-lagoon are, and where NOT fooled and duped by these things. And I’m not surprised that Hasselbeck sat there like a dunce and said nothing, and I’m assuming that Hasselbeck agreed what Goldberg said by her making excuses for Helen Thomas. So Debbie and the rest of the posters here, I think about 5-10 years from now, the View will be off the airwaves?

INFINITE writes, “[Hadrian] barred Jews from returning and survivors dispersed across the empire. Judea was renamed Syria-Palestina.” The actual restriction was that Jews could not legally reside where they could look upon Jerusalem.

That doesn’t mean every last one of them actually left Jerusalem or its environs, or that Jews left the entire land of Judea. They didn’t. Otherwise, the Mishna couldn’t have been compiled in Galilee/Tiberias region only a few decades later, nor the Palestinian/Jerusalem Talmud been compiled a few centuries later. The Muslims wouldn’t have encountered Jews when they conquered (yes, conquered) Jerusalem who could show them where the Temple of Solomon had been – the one they now claim never existed. There wouldn’t have been Jews for the Crusaders to slaughter, nor people to build a textile industry (and a modern Jewish mysticism) in Safed in the 16th century.

The fact is the Jews never left, never ceded their rights to or attachment to the land or Jerusalem their eternal city. Jerusalem itself has been a majority Jewish city since at least the 1840s. All this the haters of Israel continue to ignore.

Really I think this is another example of “I want to hear what I want to hear because it is MY view”. Both my husband and I watched this segment and while the View ladies can be very annoying, neither of us heard this in any form or context of what it is made out to be. Ms. Goldberg criticized her if you watch her reaction at the beginning, almost disbelief, then said she had been told “it was just like when people told us to go back to Africa”. The segment continued and she said in her way that the parties needed to resolve the conflict with a “they need to talk”. Really, is there not anything better to do than to criticize women on The View when there are so many moer important things? Let’s start by focusing making our own behavior stellar such as not reporting subjective and personal views!

there were always jews there but it was majority arab for about 18 centuries beofre zionism. the palestinian arabs were there they are descended from the canaanites, who were actually there BEFORE the jews.

anyway whoopi is obviosuly referring to zionism not these ridiculous geneological things. Thomas shouldn’t have been fired, theres no law against not being a zionist.

lester on June 7, 2010 at 5:48 pm

No, lester, the Fakestinians (who are not a distinct ethnicity, the term not even being used to describe Arabs until after the 6-day war) did not descend from Canaanites. The Canaanites were apparently of Greek heritage.

As for the “majority” being Arab, this is an interesting question, as it brings up the issue of what an “Arab” is. Nor, I think, is it easy to know how many Arabs were there for most of the period. The population was very sparse, with non-Jews coming in and out, but mostly out.

Anyway, those Muslims who resided on the land did not own it, certainly not since Ottoman times, as the Ottomans owned it.

Any more fake (or highly dubious) “facts” you want to offer here?

Behar is Sicilian but she gets her name “Behar” from a Jewish husband or ex-husband, don’t remember or care which. Interesting

FYI, there WAS in fact a long period of time when Jews were not the predominant culture/ethnicity in Israel. In fact, this trend only started post-WWII when britain divvied up the middle east and created the modern nation of Israel. Doesnt change that what she said was bad, but Whoopi was correct in this instance.

FC: WRONG. Whoopi was NOT correct. Nothing I hate more than incorrect corrections. Given your screen name, looks like you need to self-fact-check. RIF – Reading Is Fundamental. She said there were NO Jews in Israel for a very long time. Not the same as not being the “dominant” population (since they were constantly driven out by thugs). Nice try defending the Marxist. But no cigar. There has been a continuous Jewish presence in Israel for 2,000 years. And BTW, you are wrong in claiming that Jews only had a large population post-World War II. In fact, there was a large Jewish population in Israel in the 1800s and onward. There was never a large “Palestinian” Arab population until Arabs of various nationalities came to the land b/c of opportunities Jewish residents provided them to work. DS

FactChecker on June 7, 2010 at 7:41 pm

In particular, Jews were a majority in Jerusalem since the mid 19th Century. And there was a continuous Jewish presence in Eretz Israel long before Zionism ever arrived on the scene. You might want as Debbie wrote, to check your facts.

This has been great reading, most of what I read makes me glad I am an American. As far as Helen Thomas, welllll, she should have been put out to pasture years ago. Then we have Whoopi who is as big a fool as I have ever come across. Nothing she has to say makes a bit of sense, if she was still putting makeup on cadavers no one on earth would be paying her any mind, not than being an actress gives her any credibility,it just gives her a platform for the garbage she spews.

Lolah on June 7, 2010 at 10:58 pm

I was seeking information on all of this and ran across this blog. I am pro-Israel. I view Gaza as some Arab attempt to keep a wound festering. I have had many wonderful Jewish people in my life. This is your hint to not tell me I hate Jews.

That being said? Hey, real attractive to use hate to fight hate there. THAT seems fitting when this is about God? Helen? The woman is just short of 90. I am 51 and am now fully getting how age changes a person. It is easy to understand somebody maybe losing their filter at 89. While I do not agree with her take? It’s America and I wasn’t aware we used 89 year olds in some political sporting event. Have you ever misspoke? Well, I’m sure you have. I sure hope the hounds are not released upon you some day when you’re so old you need diapers. I’m pretty sure it’s possible to be a bit more pro Gaza and not “hate” Jews. I know people that have this view, and I have yet to slap them or demand they become unemployed. Now, had she said “Kill the Jews?” I would not be on here taking up for her rights here.

Whoopie? Whoopie needs to now be fired? And she’s a Marxist? This is where you just admit you’re using religion and this entire thing as some republican hate fest to clear the field. Every week there is some big ugly that comes off of Fox and it’s cute to you people. This is about demonizing the liberals again. Tell me, is hating a group wrong or not? Because I am confused as to why the Jewish are untouchable and liberals are open season now. So WHAT if you do not approve of what Whoopie said? I don’t like what you are saying. I think this is America and you have a right to say it though.

You can NOT fight hate with hate. I especially love the comment above that shows the person thinks all black people went to ghetto schools and weren’t educated. So obviously racist. While crying it’s wrong to hate Jews. Unbelievable. And somebody else talks about how ugly Helen is. How cute. In the name of God.

I do not think Helen hates Jews. But I think some Jews are behaving very hateful.

Susan on June 8, 2010 at 12:00 am

You’re not jewish, probably, and if you are, then you really should understand where all this anger to what Helen had said coming from. May I remind you, or tell you, why the jewish people escaped Germany and Poland? BECAUSE THEY WERE MURDERED IN THE HOLOCAUST. And for Helen to say it, it reminds us of the holocaust. So, yes, if it feels like jewish people say what they think here, and you don’t like it, so be it. And, by the way, it’s hypocracy on your side to tell us what we need to say. After all, it’s a free country, right? Oh, yes, it’s free, just not to jewish people, or jew-lovers, right?

Tal on June 8, 2010 at 9:36 am

Someone fire Whoopi as well. She has been a long time racist for years. Oh well, she is liberal so she gets a pass. Alan Keyes has a great piece on this whole issue:

“Israel once was, and is again a material, historic fact. But for the long centuries of the Jewish diaspora Israel never ceased to exist as a moral and spiritual reality. It was sustained by observant Jews who adhered to laws and practices that made their very existence, in whatever land and clime, a house of praise and worship to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The very possibility of nationhood rooted in a moral reality that transcends history, contradicts the vision of nation-less global unity that is the shibboleth of the worshipers of history and scientific materialism. In this sense, Israel is the archetype of the exception that proves the rule. A nation set apart, it endured disembodied for centuries in the spiritual temple of its dispersed people. It emerged again as an historical artifact in the very era during which historical forces had made their single most determined effort to annihilate its people forever. If ever there was proof that a human nation may, like individuals, have a soul, Israel is that proof.”

To those who keep defending Helen Thomas for her “Slip of the tongue” and her age : It was only 4 years ago she was raising money for Code Pink. Code Pink works closely with Hamas in Gaza. Someone finally outed her as the hater she is. The Hearst corporation was classy enough to give her the dignity of retirement, rather than fire her for her ethnic cleansing statements. It is pitiful that nobody is shocked when someone says Jews should get out of Israel or Jews cannot live in East Jerusalem but are mortified if someone tells Africans to go back to Africa.

Barry on June 8, 2010 at 9:40 am

It was no slip of the tongue. And her work on behalf of the radical anti-American and anti-Israel Code Pink group should give one an indication of her true sympathies. Actions speak far louder than words and her words merely betrayed her real feelings – they always do. What a person says in the heat of the moment reveals their true character. And their apologies afterward are insincere. But when you have to defend the likes of Thomas, there’s really nothing there to defend.

“skzion- that sounds liek a passage from the discredited “from time immorial” book. no, the area was majority arab for 18 centuries before zionism.”

Lester, here is a heads-up: I am rapidly losing patience with you. By this I mean that if you don’t shape up immediately, I will treat you as you deserve.

In the first place, you apparently now drop your ludicrous claim that the Fakestinians were Canaanites. Nobody but Muslims (Bnei Amalek) and their supporters claim this. That claim of yours was most telling.

Second, while I was not thinking of Peters per se (and have not read the book), Peters’s book was “discredited” by the same types who claim that Islam is a religion of peace. Even the fool Benny Morris apparently agrees with her thesis. Muslims, though, are notorious for outright lies about history, and are therefore to be dismissed “with prejudice.” For example, Muslims tell us that Abraham was a Muslim. Get it?

Third, you ignored my point about the uncertainty regarding what an “Arab” is, which would surely bear on how many “Arabs” lived at different times in Eretz Israel. I am not being obfuscatory here. Many Arabs came over from Arabia, but indigenous people were also “Arabized.” The question is the extent of the effectiveness of Arabization. Reglardless of the latter point, Arabs are a foreign people in Eretz Israel, who achieved their presence (however small) by force.

Fourth, you ignored my point regarding the issue of land ownership. This is immediately relevant because illegal squatters cannot be displaced from “their” land because they own no land.

Fifth, the idea of “displacement” is ridiculous because the land was sparsely populated, whatever the balance of Muslim, Jew, and Christian. There is no doubt that many Muslims entered Eretz Israel to find work–that’s why the Bnei Amalek of Gaza speak with an Egyptian accent and those of Judea and Samaria speak with a Jordanian or Syrian accent. That the Muslims ultimately waged jihad in hopes of seizing Jewish property is not in dispute.

In truth, the main reason I have written this is that some Googlers might find the analysis useful.

And this nitwit beat out Elaine Bracco for an Oscar…

Marc on June 8, 2010 at 2:04 pm

P.S. to lester:

I don’t doubt the “narrative” you offer. It’s an interesting choice of words, though, as the word “narrative” is commonly used among those who do not believe in objective history. Rather, there are just competing “narratives.” Thus, again you show quite an amazing level of ignorance, for the one thing one CAN do with a “narrative” is to dispute it, and yet you assert that doing so is somehow absurd.

But then why should I assume that you actually attend to such subtleties?

skzion on June 8, 2010 at 2:04 pm

Erratum in my last to lester:

“I don’t doubt the ‘narrative’ you offer” should read, “I don’t doubt the ‘narrative’ you offer is accepted in some circles.”

Sorry.

skzion on June 8, 2010 at 2:07 pm

Yo Lester, Jean Peters’ book “From Time Immemorial” has only been “discredited” because its well-researched conclusions blew up the Jews-displaced-local-Arabs narrative that anti-Israel types embraced. She was not well trained in scholarly techniques, so she became easy to criticize on those grounds. But no one has come up with historical evidence contradicting what she found and the conclusions she drew from it. The facts are clear: Jews were a substantial population in Palestine all along, and starting with the beginning of the zionist enterprise in the 1880s, Arabs from surrounding areas converged on this area of the Ottomon Empire to realize the better economic opportunities provided by the industrious Zionists. With the fall of the Ottomon Empire in WWI, the League of Nations established mandates for national homelands for the Jews in Palestine, the Arabs in Arabia, Syria, Iraq, the Christians in Lebanon and the Kurds in their homelands around the Turkish, Syrian, Iraq borders. That’s international law, Lester. 78% of the Palestine Mandate was unilaterally stripped away from the Jews by the British and given to Arabs east of the Jordan River to be ruled over by a Hashemite King. The Kurdish enclave was never established due to the hostility of the Turks and the Arabs. The Jewish state on the remaining 22% of Mandatory Palestine was further contracted pursuant to the UN Partition Plan after WWII. The Jews accepted this, but the Arabs did not, instead declaring war on the Jews. Without any foreign help, the Jews of Israel defended their homeland – as part of this war, around 600,000 Arabs living in the area fled their homes, most at the behest of Arab commanders; oh and 700,000 Jews were kicked out of their homes in Arab countries, fleeing to Israel. So let’s get this straight – you think Jews have no right to have a national homeland in Israel?
