Is Simon Cowell Really Converting to Islam?
Why is it important what a prominent celeb on a ditzy karaoke TV show does with his religion and marriage? Well, because, sadly, pop culture is the single most important influence on American culture. And when, for example, Britney Spears is dating a Muslim alien (as I noted on this site she once was) on our shores, it influences girls and women who still like her (and sadly that group is far too large).
Now, the pop culture figure is Simon Cowell. When I first heard that “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell was engaged to make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy, an Afghan Muslim, I recognized her surname as a Muslim one and wondered how religious she was and whether he’d convert to Islam. Since then, I’ve seen plenty of pictures of her in a strapless gowns, tank tops, and low-cut shirts, and she apparently has spent the night, a no-no for a devout Muslim. So, I wondered if, perhaps, she was non-religious and wouldn’t insist on the Islam conversion.
Now, however, there are many stories about Cowell’s alleged agreement to convert to Islam.
“They’re very westernised, but no one in their family has ever married a non-Muslim – and they’re not willing for their youngest daughter to become the first,” digitalspy quoted a source as saying about Hussainy’s parents, Mary and Sayed.
Hussainy’s sister-in-law, Erlene Garcia, was also asked to convert before marrying her brother Wahid.
According to Hussainy’s friend, “Mezhgan is very reluctant about asking Simon to convert and she knows how controversial it will be.”
“Simon might be a big deal in the UK, but there are other people in the Afghan community in Los Angeles who her parents will be more afraid of offending. It would bring shame on their family and community if Simon did not respect their beliefs,” the friend added.
At least one good counterjihad blog, the insightful Christopher Logan’s Logan’s Warning, has picked up on it. I don’t know if the stories about Cowell’s alleged impending conversion are true, as one report says he’s getting married in his mother’s church (which doesn’t mean he won’t convert to Islam, but it’s a clue). Plus a report claims that Cowell wants the openly gay Elton John to sing at their wedding, something that wouldn’t go over well in an Islamic family. Another report merely says that Mezhgan’s family wants him to convert and that her brother’s bride joined the religion. Regardless of whether he’ll convert to islam, I think the story’s important. More Americans know about Simon Cowell’s life than they do about the fact that we are about to nationalize healthcare to a very horrible result. More Americans are influenced–even if subconsciously–by Cowell’s lifestyle and what they hear about it than by that of most other public figures.
And they’re watching to see what he’ll do. Simon’s obviously a smart guy, but this will show us how smart he really is.
Don’t convert to Islam, Simon. Don’t do it.
