Just a reminder, here are the photos , of new “CBS Evening News” anchor, Katie Couric. Not that we took her seriously before, but . . . . Maybe she can wear this when she visits New Orleans on the “Katrina: One Year Later” newscast.

Well, my time to leave has arrived. My employer loves me so much that I get to spend another year in France (lucky me?). I’m sure I’ve “ruffled” a few feathers here too. But if I’ve made a few people think for themselves then… OK whatever. I’ll go pester the French for awhile.

UM, ACTUALLY, I DIDN’T PUT DOWN HER LOOKS AT ALL. I THINK SHE LOOKS VERY GOOD FOR HER AGE. I JUST DON’T THINK IT’S APPROPRIATE FOR A “RESPECTED” NEWS ANCHOR TO BE POSING LIKE SHE’S IN FHM. WE REALLY DON’T NEED TO SEE HER CLEAVAGE. WE DIDN’T SEE PETER JENNINGS’ OR TOM BROKAWS’ (THANK G-D), AND WE DON’T NEED TO SEE HERS EITHER. THAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS ENTIRE POST, WHICH YOU SEEM NOT TO GET.
SHE MUST DECIDE WHAT SHE IS: PAMELA ANDERSON OR A SERIOUS NEWS ANCHOR. YOU CAN’T BE BOTH.
YOU SEEM VERY CAUGHT UP IN READING THINGS INTO MY WORK THAT AREN’T THERE. IT’S SO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. (Caps for differentiation purposes, only).

I don’t see anything wrong with the way Couric is dressed. There is nothing distasteful or inappropriate about it. When I walk down Michigan Avenue in Chicago in the summer I see professional women dressed like this all the time. This is hardly Pamala Anderson wear.
Capitals indicate screaming. I am not impressed. I have been screamed at by experts.

Whatever the wardrobe that Katie may choose for herself, I believe this is not the point.
Katie Couric is not a good choice for an evening new anchor!
Actually — a terrible choice. A choice that represents a network penchant for entertainment — and not for serious news reporting.
That is the point.
Perhaps this is why I don’t watch the network news anymore.
I do admit though — I would like to see Debbie Sclussel in evening wear or any kind of revealing (but tasteful) garb. And I would still respect her as a serious columnist.
