Who is Shahid Khan?: No Limbaugh for NFL; But Tax Cheat Muslim (Named for “Martyrdom”) A-OK

By Debbie Schlussel

The St. Louis Rams just announced that the team is being sold by relatives of late owner Georgia Frontiere to Shahid Khan, a Pakistani Muslim (who is named for Islamic martyrdom) from Illinois, who owns Flex-N-Gate Corporation, an auto parts manufacturer.  But what’s interesting is that when Rush Limbaugh was a minority partner in a venture to buy the Rams, the NFL and its Commissioner, Roger Goodell, objected.

Not so with Khan, even though  he’s had a number of questionable dealings with the IRS and tax problems.  Normally those would be a problem with the NFL ownership committee.  But maybe the NFL makes exceptions in the interest of Muslim affirmative action.  Hey, it’s a good thing the football is no longer made of real pigskin, right?  And in case you were wondering, his first name means “martyr,” as in martyr for Islam.  Islamic terrorists call themselves shahids.

So who is Shahid Kahn? . . . He and his wife are involved in some on-going financial legal battles. . . . Khan and his wife, Ann, filed law suits last summer in Champaign County Circuit Court against several financial advisors. The couple claims they lost money when misled on tax-advantaged investment strategies. According to court records, the IRS investigated the Khan’s tax returns between 1999 and 2003. They found potentially abusive [DS: translation, “illegal”] tax shelters involving $250 million.

Khan says he and his wife, Ann, quickly paid back the IRS $68 million, but he also appealed the payment. The Khan’s battle continues this week with his former financial advisors. They are being sued for negligence and professional malpractice for suggesting the couple invest in “distressed debt”, a strategy to lower taxes by using weak foreign currency. The next court date is scheduled for March 23.

Like I said, conservative minority owners in the NFL–verboten; but Muslim tax cheats named for Islamic martyrdom–YAY! Gee, I wonder if Mr. Khan will denounce HAMAS and Hezbollah. Actually, I don’t wonder because I know the answer: don’t bet on it.  And the spineless NFL and its owners won’t have the guts to ask him, either.

And Jerry, your comment that “European Americans conceived, designed, engineered, and built practically every scientific and medical breakthrough the world has seen.” is wrong as well. You are completely blinded ny your ignorance and ethno-centrism. I’d ask you to go read a book, but its obvious that factual arguments would be lost on someone like yourself. I do genuinely love my country, just not ass-hats like yourself that misrepresent it. No sweat, people with your world view are slowly dying off and will be replaced eventually, anyway. Good riddance to the dinosaur and the caveman!

That’s kind of a red herring (and an example of race-baiting worthy of Al Sharpton of Jesse Jackson) when you point out that Shahid Khan’s first name means “martyr”. My first name means “who is like God”, but I’d never be so bold as to tell people that I am like God and use as evidence of this that’s what my first name means.

The author’s name (Debbie) comes from Deborah (or Debra) means “bee” in Hebrew. But this in no way implies that the author must therefore love honey.

Aside from internet articles from conspiracy-based sites, I can’t find any true evidence that anyone has ever determined the religious leanings (assuming any exist) for Shahid Khan. So far, it’s just been a bunch of people assuming (and we all know the saying about what happens when you assume) that based on him being born in Pakistan or the sound of his name that he must therefore be Muslim.

I’m sure that there are more than enough facts out there on Mr Khan with which to form a story without needing to resort to shallow and racist stereotypes.

For those who don’t know Shahid Khan is a “Paki” guy (meaning Pakistani/South Asian Indian). Check the meaning of “Paki” in “thefreedictionary”

Debbie,
Your article is filled with racism, non sense and you don’t have correct information as well, just because Limbaugh couldn’t buy NFL and a Muslim bought it doesn’t mean any thing , it business, people like you are bad name to society and you are aggravating hate among communities which is ridiculous, even you spent time in writing and didn’t know a carp that his name doesn’t mean martyr,

Don’t make controversial the meaning of Shahid , Shahid means witness and so many others meaning as well but less important.
Martyr is Shaheed.
You peoples can not digest a muslim billionaire in USA.

Having Muslim name doesn’t warrant you to be practicing Muslim. And I am sick of the idea of people abusing religion caz of someone personal deeds (generally bad ones). Why Eliot Spitzer, Mark Sanford, Clinton etc religion was not held accountable for their wrong doings?
