Boneheaded: J-No, Obama Shrink Border Patrol, Dump Elite Maritime Security

By Debbie Schlussel

Remember all the FBI warnings we got that Al-Qaeda was planning attacks on America using aquatic tactics and scuba training?  Remember the Goose Creek terrorists, University of South Florida students Youssef Megahed and Ahmed Mohamed, both of whom had ties to Islamic Jihad terrorist group founder and frontman, Sami Al-Arian?  A little reported fact (which I reported on this site) is that they had scuba gear and oxygen tanks in their car, when they were caught by a South Carolina Sheriff’s deputy, and it’s believed they planned to carry out some sort of attack in New York.  They took scuba diving training. Islamic terrorists have frequently used the waters surrounding Israel for attacks, as a means to sneak into the country, and as a way to send bombs onto the beach as recently as last week.

The Lesbionic Woman Cuts Border Patrol, Coastal Security

(Lesbionic Woman by David Lunde/Lundesigns)

And, now, Department of Homeland Security chief, Janet Napolitano a/k/a “The Lesbionic Woman,” at the direction of Barack Obama, made it that much easier for terrorists to carry out such ocean-based attacks, eliminating several elite Coast Guard Maritime Security and Safety Teams (MSST).  She also wants to reduce the Border Patrol and decline finishing the “virtual” and physical fences at the border, so our southern border is also extending the welcome mat to Islamic terrorists.  It’s amazing that with $56.3 billion, this wasteful government agency cannot afford to expand the border patrol, nor protect us from water-based attacks.

Check out the details of the DHS penny-wise, pound-foolish new budget:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says her department’s $56.3 billion budget for next year, up 2% over this year, enhances security “across the board.” . . .

If Congress approves Obama’s proposals:

• The Border Patrol, which doubled to 20,000 agents during the Bush administration, would lose 180 agents through attrition. Border staffing would stay the same.

• A “virtual” fence of pole cameras and sensors aimed at stopping illegal immigrants, drug smugglers and terrorists on the U.S.-Mexican border, faces a $225 million cut from $800 million last year. That would delay implementation while a review of the fence, plagued by technical problems, is done.

Five of the Coast Guard’s 13 elite Maritime Security and Safety Teams (MSST), created since 2001 to protect waterfront cities, would be eliminated. Obama is proposing cuts in New York City, San Francisco, Anchorage and King’s Bay, Ga.

• The existing 643 miles of concrete-and-steel border fence would be maintained but no new barriers would be built.

In the wake of the failed attempt to blow up an airplane bound for Detroit on Dec. 25, Obama’s budget for next year calls for $371 million for 500 more body scanners, 275 more canine teams and an unspecified number of new air marshals.

Yup, we’re trading in actual, necessary security for more expensive props of security theater.

Just because a guy tries to blow up a plane with his underwear, doesn’t mean Al-Qaeda and other Islamic terrorist groups won’t continue to try to sneak in their members through our borders and foment attacks from the sea and off the coasts.

Someone once said a cynic knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.  I beg to differ.  That’s the outlook of a fool.  And Janet Napolitano is a fool extraordinaire.

Schumer has already come out against this. He needs to distance himself from Obama because he is actually vulnerable in keeping his Senate seat.
I live on Staten Island and small red Coast Guard gun boats often pace the Staten Island ferries (usually 2 boats at a time). In addistion, when the threat level is up (or they know more than they are willing to share) there are often machine gun toting Coast Guard members aboard the ferry itself. I believe all that would be cut if Obama gets his way. I guess he wants to clear the path for his bretheren.

Yes, Bob the NY Daily News is reporting that NYC is one of the areas Hussein plans to withdraw CG from. The plan is to consolidate them in Boston. Gee, that helps. I was astounded by the stupidity and or audacity or such an idea.

Wasn’t it just a few days ago when top intelligence people stated that an attack on the United States within the next six months is “certain”? So, what does Homeland Security do? What’s the response? Reduce border security.

Well there’s a “confidence builder.”

I still believe that land mines and machine guns along the U.S. / Mexican border is the best way to keep illegals out of the U.S. Just set it up like the Korean DMZ. Fences on both sides of the border with a well marked No Man’s Land should keep most of the illegals out. And those that wish to venture into the DMZ, tough luck. They were warned.

Naturally I want to see an increase in the budget for border security, and a massive step-up of all security procedures. Having said that though, I don’t think the proposed cuts mean that much, because none of these politicians would do anything anyway. If Bush doubled the Border Patrol, it certainly didn’t have any meaningful effect on curbing illegal immigration, and I doubt a cut of 180 would matter very much, or that the Coast Guard cut will make a meaningful difference.

I’m opposed to the cuts, but without a fundamental change in security outlook the day-to-day rises and falls in border patrol won’t mean too much. Maybe if the borders were really protected, anchor babies were not citizens, all anchor babies’ citizenship was revoked. Muslims in this country were monitored the way our enemies were during World War II, it would make a difference.

[From the article cited by Debbie – In the wake of the failed attempt to blow up an airplane bound for Detroit on Dec. 25, Obama’s budget for next year calls for $371 million for 500 more body scanners,]

How about ditching the scanners and start profiling?

I also wonder how much it costs American businesses to have their employees who travel on business leave work even earlier so they have enough time to go through security.

DHS needs to eliminate ICE Office of Investigations. Special Agents are not allowed to arrest illegal aliens. Most sit around the office all day surfing the net. All the Customs investigative responsibilities are now conducted by the FBI, Postal Service, DEA and IRS. ICE has over 6,000 agents. A GS/13 agent makes 6 figures and the vast majority of agents have take home cars. ICE special agents should be transferred to other agencies. Detention and Removal needs to exist to house the illegals that state and local police pick up, in spite of the federal government’s, don’t ask, don’t tell immigration status policy!

They should eliminate DHS altogether because it has served no function in the security of our nation. It’s dysfunctional, sophomoric, and bleeds of political fellatio and cronyism. Oh wait…those are the earmarks of customs.

If you recall…..J-No said “Our border with Mexico is secure.” So why bother to patrol anything at all. We can all sleep soundly in our beds at night.

I wonder how many miles of the border you’ve patrolled Ms. Schlussel to come to the conclusion that the BP isn’t security theatre. Apparently you’ve not heard of the X concept, which leaves lots of border unpatrolled. Having been both a BP agent and a FAM I can tell you that both are necessary but both are political footballs and are run accordingly.

FAM on February 9, 2010 at 9:15 am

DHS should be restructured ASAP! ICE and CBP should be merged. The FBI needs to get over themselves and stop putting political pressure on DHS to keep these two agencies seperate. Everything is against DHS. Do you know how hard it is to get DOJ to prosecute violations related to immigration issues or the border? Let DHS do their jobs and get out of the political arena !

Seriously, you have to have SOMETHING happen in order to declare martial law, and move us into our new “progressive America”….AKA “Communism”. That can’t happen if you kill off all the America hating terrorists, and if you make it too hard to get them to cross our borders……

I mean, really, c’mon…..by now you should see the writing on the wall. Or at least, the writing Obammy/Federal Gov’mint is doing on your foreheads.
