Alhamdillullah [Praise allah]: Outrageous Mosque Zoning Denied; Det Free Press Lies About it

By Debbie Schlussel

Recently, I told you about Muslims who purchased a home smack dab in the middle of a middle class suburban Detroit neighborhood, who wanted to turn the front lawn into a parking lot eyesore.  As I noted, residents of the Northville Township street didn’t want to have a mosque parking lot right next to and across from their front lawns.  The residents include retired Dr. Bent Boving, an 89-year-old World War II veteran, who saved for the house all his life and can’t afford to move himself and his wife elsewhere (nor should he have to).

islamerica

Well, on Wednesday Night, I watched in person as the Muslims’ request to create a parking lot on the front lawn of the Meadowbrook Islamic Center was unanimously rejected by the Northville Township Zoning Board of Appeals.  I was proud to see about two hundred good people of Northville show up and display the epitome of American patriotism.  More than 20 people spoke out at the meeting in opposition of the mosque parking lot and expansion request.  And they were all eloquent and inspiring.  It made me proud to be an American, and is an excellent example of what neighbors and residents can do to stop the unreasonable Islamic encroachments and demands in our neighborhoods and on our streets.  Friends and I talked with the people of Northville beforehand to offer moral support and ideas, but this was their effort.  And they did it without the obstacle of a fan club headed by a fraudulent woman who speaks Arabic.

The most eloquent, forceful speakers were Northville residents, Dr. Boving and Martin E. Testasecca.  Mr. Testasecca, a lawyer, was twice denied zoning to expand his dining room–first by four feet, and then by two–so it could accomodate his elderly parents who are both in wheelchairs.  The liberals on the Zoning Board turned him down, stating that if they granted it to him, they’d have to grant it to everyone.  It was evident by their questions and statements that these same liberals wanted very badly to grant the mosque parking-lot-on-the-front-lawn request.  But the speeches and great turnout by residents showed them the handwriting on the wall, if they allowed the absurd Zoning variance request.  Other residents–not attorneys–could match many practicing lawyers I know, in their citation of case law and statutes on their side.  Like, I said, it was a proud and inspiring moment for America, not just the Township of Northville, Michigan.

You don’t need phonies like Hanan Tudor (who goes by the porn name,  “Brigitte Gabriel,” and who helped raise money for an organization that praised Muslim death, rape, and torture threats on my life and my family members’ lives), or fakers like Mohammed Zuhdi Jasser, to stop the Islamic invasion of America.  If anything those two (and their kind, like fraud Walid Shoebat) are obstacles.  The road to preserving the American way of life is not led by a woman with an Arabic accent who tells you what you want to hear to sell books someone else wrote for her.  Or by a Muslim who pretends to be moderate, hides his first name Mohammed (and goes by his middle name, Zuhdi), so he can fool the idiots who drink up FOX News airwaves.  If you cannot take the reigns, yourself, and fight for your home and your community, a fan club for an empty suit with an Arabic accent or Islamic name ain’t gonna do it for you.

The mosque may appeal, but the momentum is, alhamdillullah, against them.

Unfortunately, Detroit Free Press “reporter” Zlati Meyer–who, sadly, always seems to bend over backward to Muslims because she is Jewish–claimed in her report that there were “a handful of anti-Muslim comments made during the meeting.”  That’s a flat-out lie.  I was there, and I videotaped the whole thing.  There wasn’t a single “anti-Muslim comment,” even though the consideration of the variance request in the first-place was an illustration of how municipalities now bend over backwards to Islam and Muslims the way they would never do for any other religion.

The closest anyone came to “anti-Muslim,” was pointing out that Hamtramck started with a single mosque, and now it has calls to prayer in the middle of the night and early in the morning and we see what’s happened with the city.  That’s not “anti-Muslim.”  It’s a very polite comment about the truth of what’s really going on in Hamtramck, a city now essentially run (into the ground) by Muslims.

Yup, you can’t believe Zlati Meyer’s–or most other reporters’–stories with regard to Islam.  They lie and they’re too lazy to check the facts.

One awesome victory for Northville Township. Now the people of Northville Township just need to get rid of these terrorists and their places of cult worship.

Debbie wrote “started with a single mosque, and now it has calls to prayer in the middle of the night and early in the morning”. Isn’t this some type of public nuisance / disturbance or in violation of public noise ordinances? One of the next steps these people should do is to bring up as many legitimate lawsuits against these muzzies as they can. Instead of setting up a legal DEFENSE fund, the people of Northville Township should set up a legal OFFENSE fund.

Jarhead on January 22, 2010 at 2:12 pm

I would agree. The zoning variance request made by the mosque people would not have been seriously considered by zoning a board or planning commission if it had been made by any other group. Questions about noise, traffic, and property values would have killed off such a request at its outset. As stated in your post, this board even rejected a variance for an expanded dining room, so how could it possibly justify converting a residential property into a mosque with extensive parking?

Debbie – I just wanted to state how happy I am. I just read this news this morning. I hope the muslims do the right thing – put the house up for sale and find a better location.

Any guesses on how long it will take CAIR to get this in a courtroom?

I_AM_ME on January 22, 2010 at 2:35 pm

This is good news for the fine people of this neighborhood. Hopefully this is just the start of standing up to the invasive liberties the people of this religion have taken. Finally, some justice.

Musiccgirl on January 22, 2010 at 2:48 pm

A job well done, but we all might have better served if it wasn’t stressed that it was an Islamic encroachment. It could have been jewish (of which I am one), catholic or the KKK.

Ed Metelits on January 22, 2010 at 3:04 pm

    No.

The these religions do not take a house in the middle of a neighborhood and turn them into Churches and Temples.

The KKK is NOT a religion. I take your mention of the KKK as a slight towards Jews and Christians.

Sam Adams on January 22, 2010 at 4:48 pm

No, you are lumping groups together that are not alike. It is doubtful that a Jewish or Catholic group would have even attempted such a stunt. Islam tries to physically dominate any area it moves into, as Debbie mentioned with the Hamtramck example. Also, comparing those two groups with the KKK is much more than slightly insulting, not to mention suspicious.

    Worry01 on January 22, 2010 at 4:49 pm

The Religious Land Use and Incarcerated Persons Act of 2000 might be used by the Muslims in their appeal. Small Christian and Jewish groups have used the Act to allow for favorable zoning for their activities. This instance is more “over the top” than anything else I’ve seen. Let’s hope they are stopped here for good.

The triumph of Islam is inevitable and you know it.

Renounce your false religions. Embrace Islam now and live in peace in submission to the will of Almighty Allah (swt).

Your grandchildren will be Muslim.

Allahu akbar!

Now hear this, you slime-slurping, scum-skimming, silt-sifting, bottom-browsing, islamic mud-munching puke! I just lost my 86 year old, WWII veteran Dad this past Friday. He risked life and limb for the USA, in the belief that his generation’s sacrifices would preserve our freedom from insane, fanatical idiots like yourself. Why don’t you just go snuggle up to a 9 year old virgin goat and STFU!!!

baseboru on January 22, 2010 at 9:18 pm

“The triumph of Islam is inevitable and you know it.” I did not know that you were a mind reader. I know no such thing.

“Renounce your false religions. Embrace Islam now and live in peace in submission to the will of Almighty Allah (swt).”

I will do something else I think. I denounce Islam as a false religion conjured up by a Seventh Century warlord to justify his avarice and lusts, assuming that Mohammed ever existed at all as historically portrayed.

    “Your grandchildren will be Muslim.”

Is that supposed to be anything other than a curse? May you and your descendants enjoy leprosy before that happens.

“Allahu akbar!” I guess Allah is great if a ruptured septic tank ripening in the sun is great. Have fun with your wudu. Always use fresh pebbles. 😉

This is all about preserving the character of our neighborhoods, not from a culture or a religion, but from an influential group or business that attempts to sneak in an unintended use under the wire.

What I don’t understand, Debbie, is this insistence that someone who supported the parking lot request must have been a “liberal”. Some of the most strident conservatives and Far Right members of zoning boards and municipal councils lean to political influence and big money, and they often are the ones who allowing non-conforming uses “for the benefit of the community”. Look at development in Novi, MI as an example of how big money from one culture has changed the entire character of a community.

This was a victory for Middle America, and it reflects mainstream American ideals. It has nothing to do with liberals, conservatives, or progressives.

Stephen S. on January 22, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Whatever those values are, which seem to have no content.

    sorrow01 on January 24, 2010 at 10:13 am

For those not in attendance at the Northville zoning meeting, both the citizens and at least one seemingly knowledgeable board member cited several other legal precedents and similar cases in Michigan to support their rejection of the requests for zoning variance by petitioner Meadowbrook Islamic Center.

In fact, the salient provisions of RLUIPA and the landmark Meridian Township case were addressed several times at the Northville meeting. Bottom line: the residents of Northville — including most immediately those whose homes abut the property recently purchased by the Meadowbrook Islamic Center — do not need to suffer noise pollution, light pollution, traffic congestion, loss of home values and other deleterious impact — just because the MIC failed to due diligence and purchased a parcel just months ago that was not properly suited for its needs and anticipated growth.

As was stated several times during public comment and again echoed by the Northville Zoning Board, this problem was “self-created” by the Meadowbrook Islamic Center and could’ve been easily avoided had it chosen instead any of a glut of parcels now on the market to adequately accommodate its needs.

Moreover, it was also made clear over the course of the evening that the MIC’s plans for crowded Friday worship services (70-plus worshippers), expected growth and provision for religious school and youth programming (which wasn’t even clearly articulated and only obtusely referenced by the attorney representing the MIC)that the residentially zoned parcel it purchased sandwiched between two other homes was never suitable to begin with. This obviously does beg the question as to why the Islamic Center would force itself onto this size- and ordinance-restricted lot knowing full well how unworkable it was. This does lend credence to the post above suggesting the MIC did so precisely to push the envelope to establish a primacy and demonstrate that it is somehow exempt from local ordinances.

As was also pointed out by a well-versed Northville architect, the plans as submitted by the MIC would create a traffic hazard and failed to answer many basic safety considerations.
Kudos to the Northville Zoning Board for unanimously rejecting the MIC’s audacious petition and for respecting the homeowners and community the zoning laws were created to protect, specifically citing the over intensity of usage as prohibited in the local zoning ordinances that the MIC would create.

We can only hope that the MIC, whose attorney repeated several times its desire to be a good neighbor, similarly respects the more than justified concerns of the residents and community.

I am the one who made the comment. I have absolutely no charisma and have a phobia of crowds, but none of the gentle people in attendance were going to have the courage to say that the problem IS Islam in a room ringed by a bunch of glaring Muslim men. To me all the debate over how many feet a parking lot is from the road or what an impact of 40 odd more vehicles would have on the corner were just excuses. What needed to be noted is that as Stephen S points out, they are trying to change the character of the community, and not for the better, so I felt compelled to suck it up (my public speaking phobia) and step up. I prefaced what I said by pointing out it was “my opinion”.

Their lawyer pleading the case tried to obfuscate by saying things like, there are no plans to expand, there would be no loitering outside, no activities would take place outside, no calls to prayer would be heard, etc… Nope. The fact that there were no “plans” was mentioned over and over. No plans at all…yet, but as Debbie says, I pointed out that all the problems Hamtramk currently has started with one mosque and with one zoning board that allowed them to get in, where they then pushed for more and more variances that changed the character of Hamtramck until you have what we have now, an exodus of Americans and the creation of Hamtramastan.

I didn’t make any comments about the specific Muslims trying to weasel into a quiet wholesome Northville neighborhood, but I did say that for me the problem was Islam itself and closed my comment by asking them to think about which of the 52 Islamic countries in existence where Islam dominates society they thought the good citizens of Northville should admire. All religions and all ideologies are not equal and we should not be afraid of being labeled something we are not when we point it out.

Michael LeFavour on January 22, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Debbie, you fail to site RLUIPA which was passed in the dead of night on Clinton’s watch. I live in suburban New York and we have seen the effects of this law. Many Hasidim from NYC have used it with much success to get what they want, where they want, when they want.

It has come to the point where it is jews versus jews. The orthodox jews are even upset at how much religious groups have gotten away with and will continue to get away with.

This law has allowed many private homes to be turned into schools and houses of worship. These homes are also tax exempt which angers people more, since it creates a further burden on residents and threatens quality of life.

what a great meeting it was! and over my dead body will my children ever be muslim! intimidation won’t work this time!!!!!!! god bless and protect our wonderful community of northville!!!

I read about Hamtramk and remember John Hodiak. I wonder how many readers remember this fine man.

Hey Soldier of Allah…YOUR religion is false…and miserable…and evil. Good luck with our grandchildren being Muslim…you know you can’t get American women, maybe that’s why you are so angry. I used to live in Michigan in my single days and it is just amazing how many of you nasty Muslims love to hit on us Americans…while you are at the clubs…DRINKING…hypocrites.

Debbie,

You need to come up with a searchable database of fraudulent conservatives. I can’t keep up with them all and you are the authority.

The muslims seem to think that everything they see belongs to them for whatever use they want. I lost my Father almost 2 years ago and like baseboru’s Father mine was a WWII Vet also. He did not fight for this country so it could be over ran with terrorists. I know that there are some muslims that seek to live here and be responsible citizens, but the fact remains if the good ones are not speaking out denouncing the radicals the muslim community good or bad will be lumped into the terrorist category. If you are not speaking out and trying to stop this crap this is how your religion will be perceived. It’s your choice.

To the residents of Northville congrats on the victory.

allah better have mercy on any of those bastards that would hurt a family member I wont.
btw I am a vet also.

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things[24-35]
[Such niches are] in mosques which Allah has ordered to be raised and that His name be mentioned therein; exalting Him within them in the morning and the evenings[24-36]
[Are] men whom neither commerce nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allah and performance of prayer and giving of zakah. They fear a Day in which the hearts and eyes will [fearfully] turn about -[24-37]

I am very proud to call myself an american, but hearing all this racist, ignorant babble about trying to get rid of muslims makes me want to denounce that title.
@karen- Do you even realize that muslims worship the same God christians do??

@worry01- saying that muslims try to dominate any area they go to is not only a blanketing statement and incredibly racist, but half retarded as well. EVERY group religious or not tries to physically dominate the area they inhabit. And christians pull these kind of “stunts” all the time, they just don’t have a problem doing it because all of america is dominated by christianity.

seriously guys?? all of you are this pissed off because a group of muslims want to expand their parking lot to fit 70 PEOPLE?!?! The disruption 70 people could make from going to pray is nothing compared to that made by the thousands of christians that clog the road on sunday mornings. Why the hell are you so resistant towards allowing another culture into our community? Even if there’s any truth at all in the stereotype about muslim terrorists, radical white supremacists such as yourself are a million times more dangerous and the reason why anyone would want to harm america

Zlati Meyer lies and covers up the truth frequently. Detroit Free Press would be wise to keep her on s short stick. She slants things the way she wants to and rarely reports the facts.
