That ought to send warning bells – whenever one encounters a moron who’s converted to Islam, he should be assumed to be a potential thug. While it is possible, if not plausible that a person may be born to Muslims but grow up to be relatively agnostic, those who CONVERT to this death cult ought to be under a microscope.
After all, once you take out all the criminal and jihadi components out of Islam, what remains is virtually indistinguishable from other religions. Therefore, the ONLY reason one would convert from Christianity/Judaism/Hinduism (in Barot’s case) to Islam is to turn on one’s own criminal tendencies. Society needs to pre-empt that by treating them exactly like they would have treated converts to Nazism during WWII or Communism during the Cold War.

As a Muslim, I just wanted to drop in and say hello.
I totally understand the posters’ discontent regarding the extremist Arab/Muslim world, and how it appears to be a grave threat to our Western world. You should be upset. It’s terrible what’s happening out there.
In my humble estimation, the problem is that extremist Islam places too much trust in their religious leaders and clerics. These clerics can be angry and agenda-driven. So when a Muslim comes and asks a question about Islam, he is basically at the mercy of the cleric. If the cleric wants to, he can urge the questioner to commit violent acts. Because the cleric is so highly respected in the community (because he allegedly went to cleric school), whatever he says will go. He can then point to the passages in the Quran which discuss warfare, twist them out of context, and show them that this is the justification for them to wreak havoc.
I don’t believe in clerics. I think they’re largely morons, grabbing power for their own selfish aims. I learned about Islam myself. And in doing so, I could see that those passages of warfare were meant to be illustrated in the context of the war being fought during the 7th century, and are not applicable today. Any Muslim with half a brain can figure that out. Islam repeatedly teaches learning and questioning things on your own. It is the clerics and culture that have corrupted things so much, to make a Muslim believe that he or she is not “good enough” to learn about Islam on their own.
So I’d say the solution for Muslims is to trust in themselves. Learn things by themselves, and without the agenda of the clerics. G-d says that religion is supposed to be easy, and if we follow our hearts in an uncorrupted and uninfluenced fashion, I really believe that we’ll find truth and peace.
Is there hope? I think so. It’s interesting to note that Christianity went through things like the Inquisition and Witch-hunts about 1400-1600 years after being founded. And Islam is now about 1400 or so years old. Over the years, Christianity “grew up”, and I believe that Islam will someday grow up as well.

Discourse — Thank you for the very nice statement about Islam and the problems therein. That is not the issue. You see, WE know and understand what these people are doing. This could or will be solved one of two ways: 1) people like you need to stand up for a change and in great numbers, and point out that these clerics and their ilk have to go. They are NOT teaching any kind of religion at this point. All they teach is hate, murder, and mayhem. 2) we, the free people of the world who do not subscribe to this cult-like fanaticism, will be forced to defend ourselves with extreme prejudice. This is coming and innocent people like you may very well be caught up in it. If that happens, you have your Islamic clerics to blame, not those who would do you harm. I don’t know who these clerics are, because I’ve never gone to one, seen what they say, or what they do. Granted, not everyone feels the way I do about this, as I largely follow my heart and intellect in such matters. I believe we have those faculties for a reason, and as people start to wake up and realize this (many do), we’ll start to make progress.
You do seem very well-read about all this, but it seems that a lot of you have gone into learning about Islam with an intention to dig up as much negatives as possible. A sort of “gotcha” game if you will. Do you believe there are any positive aspects of Islam?
As for the “taqqiyah” accusation, I’d never even known what taqqiyah was until I started reading Robert Spencer. Of course, you won’t believe me, since my assertion of not knowing about taqqiyah can be like a double-taqqiyah or something. But if you have any faith in me as a fellow human, I assure you that I have never ever ever been instructed to perform(?) taqqiyah. We don’t all have some secret agenda or something. I work, watch the NFL and NBA, and sing on the side. I just want to be happy and free to pursue these interests — not to impose some secret agenda.
As far as the passages of the Quran go, the ones that were cited, I believe, were in the context of the specific war that was raging at the time. The nascent religion versus the Quraish, for example. Therefore, those decrees were not meant to extend into any other situation other than that very specific 7th century one. Most Muslims understand this. As far as the Hadiths go, there are extreme conflicts with regard to its collection, because of 9th century agendas and inconsistencies with the Quran.
And so I ask you all – what do you want of Islam? What would you like I do? What would you like that the Islamic world does? Thee_Bruno, do you believe that there is any hope for peace?

2. How are the Western countries repaid by muzlums who are allowed to immigrate to those countries?

3. What religious group is hell-bent on using kids as human bombs as a way to achieve its goals while rationalizing it away by thinking they will be sent to paradise?

5. What religious group ambushes a bunch of kids in a schoolyard in Beslan, Russia, flies airplanes into buildings, blows up commuter trains, and vows to wipe Israel off the map ñ all in the name of said religion?
