Home-Run King Racial Divide: “Our Black vs. Your Black”

By
Today’s Wall Street Journal reports an interesting racial divide regarding who will be the real home-run king, should alleged steroid user Barry Bonds surpass Hank Aaron. In the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll,

A 58% majority of whites say they will still consider Hank Aaron baseball’s home-run king even if steroids-linked Barry Bonds passes him this summer, but a 38% plurality of blacks would consider Bonds the true record-holder . . . . Bonds’ negative ratings exceed his positive marks by 20 percentage points, slightly better than Bush’s net negative of 25 points.

One commenter, “KDM,” remarks:

So did Clinton [exceed Bush’s positives in surveys]: Who said cheaters never prosper? Although I would believe Clinton would never use steriods becase of the side effects.

What’s awesome about Aaron’s achievement is that he *never* hit more than 50 in a season. That’s consistency.

A 38% plurality? Talk about spin.
60% of whites will still consider Hank Aaron the home run king.
HOWEVER, only 60% of blacks will still consider Hank Aaron the home run king.
HUGE racial divide.

Perhaps 56% of Democrats consider Al Gore to be the real president following the conclusion of the disputed 2000 elections. But it didn’t make him president. Whether they accepted it or not, George W. Bush became the legitimate president upon inaguration.
This story also reminds me the reaction of Stanford fans following the 1982 Big Game in which Cal scored a touchdown on the wild, multi-lateral, band-on-the-field final play of the game.

Hank Aaron went to the plate without body armor!

How is it a racial issue if whites consider Hank Aaron the true home run king? There’s no story here unless one is trying to point out that the so-called “culture” will go to any length to promote and defend self-absorbed law breakers.
