TMI Nation: Do We Really Need To Know About Capt. Sully’s Sex Life?

By Debbie Schlussel

Yup, this is what it’s come to in our age of over-sharing, over-exposure, sex tapes that get you on Sean Vannity’s FOX News show (in several cases), and the annoying excess of reality TV shows galore.

Captain Chesley Sullenberger was an instant hero when he landed a plane in the Hudson River and saved his passengers’ lives.  He could have “retired as undefeated champion” by leaving it at that and a book deal.  But he and his wife apparently see themselves as members of the “The Hills”/”Jon & Kate” generation and they’re very obviously afflicted by this bad habit known as TMI.

Is he trying to compete with Levi Johnston? Sure looks like it.

Hero Pilot Sully Enjoys “Rock Star Sex”: Sullenberger says being a hero has its perks

High-flying hero pilot Chesley Sullenberger confessed that he’s been enjoying “rock star sex” in the wake of being dubbed a national hero.

Sully, who landed a US Airways jetliner safely in New York Hudson’s River earlier this year, said in an interview for NBC’s “People of the Year” TV special set to air on Thursday that the near-tragic incident has added some sizzle to his sex life.

“He doesn’t know I’m going to say this, but I had joked the other day that … the hero sex really helps a 20-year-old marriage,” wife Laurie Sullengerger [DS: sic] said.

“Rock star sex,” Sully said.

Yeah, um, thanks for the sharing.  But no thanks.  That’s a “vision” that I really need to get out of my mind, stat. Please tell me there are no tapes about to be released. You don’t have to be a prude not to want to know this stuff.  What’s next–their favorite positions?  Some people don’t know when to shut up. And you wonder why some teenagers–including, probably now, the Sullenberger daughters–hate their parents.

As one of my Twitter (follow me on Twitter) followers, RhodyMike wrote:

I just puked in my mouth.

Me, too.  My friend, Jeff Zaslow, ghost-wrote and “co-authored” Sully’s book. And, thankfully, I don’t recall this kind of Penthouse Forum stuff being in the tome.

Thank G-d* there were no NBC News or people of record without an edit button when Paul Revere and George Washington were around. Yes, thank G-d there were no topless Obama-esque photos of Abraham Lincoln or vidoes of Mary Todd telling us that amid the craziness that Emancipation Proclamation emancipated their sex life.

Oh, how we’ve declined. TMI and TLI of import.  Thanks to our friend, Brett Winterble of Covert Radio Show for this most “auspicious” tip.

Observant Jews do not write out the full name, so as not to use it in vain.

Its sad when old people want to be hip and cool like the younger generation. There was a time when people were discreet about their personal life. That’s one image all of us can definitely do without – and its information none of us asked for let alone demanded to know.

I’ll be sure to chime in with a report about our next date night.

Is the puke in your mouth appropriate information for me to know?

About Sully: God bless him and his family.

Will Sully be the next Viagra spokesman?

The good captain has “sullied” his own reputation with this nonsense. Why would he and his wife play along this? He’s still a hero, but a little less than the hero I saw him as yesterday.

A 20 year marriage is built on a lot more than ‘rock star sex’. When I saw the article I thought it was about him cheating – not about his 20 yrs with his wife.

Hey, the dude was a fighter pilot in the USAF. Last I checked, all FP’s are swingin’ dick type A’s who want everyone to believe they’re up to their eyebrows in willing women.

Rock Star Sex? Would people just Stop!! Does it mean he sported a mullet and had spandex jeans on.

CaliforniaScreaming on November 23, 2009 at 11:21 pm

Well, it’s too bad, but he’s still a freakin’ hero, and inspiring. Usually fighter pilots are not exactly what you would call gentlemen. It would have been great if we never heard from Sully ever, that he just did his job, and remained silent. What mystique!! But that is probably pretty impossible in the culture of this day and age. Still, it is a lesson for us all, no? We should all make a pact, right now, that if any of us are ever heroes, and we save 155 lives that we will never ever talk to the press. We should just save the lives, and never say a word about it. We will tell Barbara, and Diane and Oprah and everyone else, no comment. Oh the mystique. The class! The amazing example! I can’t wait!!!!

There was an interesting article written by a Rabbi in the Yated weekly ( great newspaper for ortho Jews) on “hero” Sully and he goes on to duscuss how Sully instead of bowing out after doing a great deed went on to become a slf proclaimed hero giving speeches for lots of $$$ and reveling in the spot light all because he happened to manage a water landing safely as he was surely trained to do.
