One Little Lamb & 3+ Bad Wolves: A Short History of the Mid-East Peace Process

[Note from Debbie: This article is written by my father, H.L. Schlussel, who taught me almost everything I know about the Middle East and Islam. His wealth of knowledge dwarfs most of the so-called terrorism and Mid-East “experts” you see on TV and cable. DS]
By H.L. Schlussel, MD
A recently released Turkish Film, , is breaking all box office records in that country.
The story line in the movie is as follows: A Jewish doctor pays U.S. soldiers in Iraq, commanded by a psychopathic Christian fundamentalist, to murder Muslims so he can obtain their organs to sell to wealthy Jews in Tel Aviv and New York. In the course of their predations, the U.S. soldiers shoot up a Muslim wedding, killing the groom in front of his bride and a little boy in front of his mother.

“Kurtlar Vadisi – Irak”: Turkey’s Anti-Semitic, Anti-American Hit Film

But reality is different from the movies.
A recent atrocious suicide bombing attack on a Muslim wedding at a hotel in Amman, Jordan, resulted in the bride’s father and many in the wedding party being killed. But–surprise, surprise!–the attackers were not U.S. soldiers or Jews, but a devout Muslim couple with close ties to Al-Qaeda’s genocidal leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi. We know this because the Jordanian security services apprehended the woman of the couple, who chickened out at the last minute.
This time, leading Muslim clerics were not able to claim it was an Israeli or U.S. plot, as they did regarding 9/11, the infamous Danish cartoons, AIDS, bird flu, the destruction of the mosque at Samarra, etc., etc., etc. . . .
This brings me to the reason I am writing this article. You see, back in the early ’90s, after the Gulf War, Bush I/Baker forced Yitzchak Shamir, who was then Prime Minister of Israel, into the International Madrid Peace Conference, guaranteed to solve all the problems of the Middle East. The Turks, who, at the time, were close allies of the U.S. and Israel, were reluctant to participate, because they thought this conference was a “Kurtlar Sofrassi” (“A Wolves’ Table”). Secretary of State James Baker said he had Shamir “in [his] sights like a turkey.” The “hunting of the Jew” metaphor apparently resonated on the left, as well. Leslie Gelb of the New York Times wrote an op-ed in which he approvingly stated that Baker had Shamir “treed.”
Baker felt such a conference was a slippery slope. Who knows where it would lead once it got started? Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Lubavitch, one of the outstanding rabbis of the Twentieth Century, agreed. He forcefully urged Shamir not to participate. Well, it turned out that both Baker and the Rabbi were right. The Madrid Conference led to Israel’s signing on to the suicidal Oslo I Agreement, which led to Oslo II, which led to Wye, which led to Camp David, which led to open season on Jews all over the world, and international enmity unprecedented since World War II.
Israel, itself, is demoralized and riven by polarization. The government recently , with a large percentage still living in cramped, temporary quarters without jobs or hope.
That brings me to my third wolf story, from the brilliant Benjamin Franklin. He said, “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.”

Ehud Olmert: Israel’s Visionless Acting Prime Minister

Attacked his Own Citizens

(Amona Attack Photo Courtesy of Sultan Knish)

Israel’s current “temporary” Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, is a visionless political hack, who was a former Mayor of Jerusalem. His most noteworthy act, since becoming Prime Minister, was to . In this action, there were 200-300 casualties. Two members of the Israeli Parliament, both ex-Generals, were rendered unconscious. One of them sustained a fractured hand, and the other a possible fractured skull. (Disturbing photos at Sultan Knish.)
In a speech before the left-leaning “Israel Policy Forum,” in July 2005, Olmert stated, “We are tired of fighting, tired of being courageous, tired of victories, tired of defeating our enemies.”
With a guy like this leading the charge, can Israel survive? Doubtful! The leftist journalist, Ari Shavit, wrote in the left-wing newspaper, Ha’aretz, that Olmert’s victory in the upcoming Israeli elections would be “the beginning of the end.”

Thank you Debbie and Dr. Schlussel. Your insights are valuable references. (And I liked Ben Franklin’s analogy, which I do not recall having read before.) I sincerely hope your ‘end of Israel’ scenario does not come to pass.

Bachbone on March 21, 2006 at 2:20 pm

If only the MSM held such views… they do have the “psychopathic Christian fundamentalist” part down pat though.

DeBodine on March 21, 2006 at 2:38 pm

Unfortunately, DeBodine, the main stream media holds very anti-Israel views ie. CBS, ABC,NPR The New York Times etc. etc. The NYT. reported the holocaust on page 8 below the fold. See Laural Leff’s book on the NYT. coverage of the holocaust. See also camera.org on NPR, NYT and NPR and their biased coverage of the Arab-Israel conflict and they have only have part of the tilted coverage. You are correct, too, re. their biased coverage of Christianity.

Tim on March 21, 2006 at 3:19 pm

Yes Tim, I agree! What I meant was that if only they held the same views as Debbie’s dad does… but of course, I know they don’t. The MSM’s anti-Israel and anti-Christian views borders on the demonic in my opinion.

DeBodine on March 21, 2006 at 4:44 pm

unfortunately western politicians find appeasement easier than confrontation or even an aggressive defense because western politics has evolved or rather devolved to the point where you win by offending the least people, especially the sort of people who react homicidally, which Muslims tend to

sultan_knish on March 21, 2006 at 7:55 pm

I don’t think the MSM is particularly anti Jewish or anti Israel. There is a strong Jewish presence in the print and TV news and well as entertainment.
I think that *liberals* in general see themselves as anti war, anti aggressor and they just stupidly see Israel and the US as evil aggressors rather than radical Islam. The strange thing is that many of these liberals are in fact Jewish. Since about 90% of US Jews are liberal across the board as indicated by voting trends and surveys, could it be that US Jews are actually anti Israel because they are stuck in the rut of liberal thinking?
Perhaps it’s time for US Jews to do some soul searching. If Jewish Americans throw their support behind nearly every liberal idea that comes down the road(ACLU, NARAL, Gay Rights etc..), it’s a bit hard to expect them to hit the breaks and become a conservative in the war on terror.
Maybe it’s time for American Jews who are so valuable to our nation, to begin to support Republicans and at least respect conservative social views like Debbie does. You are getting nothing from the Democratic party and you have built up resentment in conservative Christians who naturally would be your strongest supporters.
As you can tell by my rather rambling post, I am very pro Israel and anti Radical Islam but feel a bit miffed and maybe even offended by what I see as Jewish intolerance of mainstream American cultural values(consider the reaction to the “Passion”). They usually oppose everything I believe in. The local Rabbi here in metro DC was quoted as calling the “Passion” an anti Semetic film based on a myth. Gee thanks for the tolerance. That makes it harder to be enthusiastic about supporting Israel and agreeing with the Doc.

Samoyed on March 22, 2006 at 12:11 pm

Let’s keep this in perspective. The proper perspective is the return of Jesus Christ, for His people. Jews are the center of this return plan. Israel is the center of this event therefore do not look at the short sighted Jew whose opinion also is to deny Jesus. BUT when Jesus has a plan to return He will do it through his people who are his Born Again followers. Many of them will be converted Jews.
Never discount the plan and just be faithful to what we are suppose to do which is support Israel. If you don’t understand this, this then get on your knees and pray about it. It is in His Word.
You will be rewarded for it with Love and eternal life with Him!

Deep Throat on March 22, 2006 at 3:46 pm

It works like this … ignore the warnings, screw it up, and you get to pay the price.
What happens to Israel in microcosm happens to Christandom in macrocosm. I do not count all of you agnostics/pagans/atheists in that definition.
And, in case you haven’t figured it out, Islam does not tolerate agnostics/pagans/atheists.
I’m a Marine … I know first hand how this works. And I cannot believe the utter stupidity of the American Left when it comes to placating Islam … but hey, they placated the commies for decades before his current crisis.
The only thing that scares Islam is the American military machine unleashed … not this farce we’re playing out now days.
The only thing that scares them worse is the Israeli war machine unleashed … because the Iaraelis don’t do farce when they go to war.

Athling on March 23, 2006 at 4:01 am

Another high five, Athling.
Deep Throat,
Just so you know, at the end of time, when Jesus returns, it will be for the Jewish people. They will be surrounded by their enemies–Muslims, and other anti-Semites. The Jewish people will accept Him then because they will see Him as He is–The Promised Jewish Messiah and King of Israel. (These are divine titles.) The Gospel writers make this clear by quoting Psalm 118 about 8 to 10 times. Other passages include Micah 4-5, Zechariah 12, and Ezekiel 36-39. Paul also emphasizes this fact in Romans 9-11 and quotes Isaiah 59 to validate his point. I will spare you further details.

H.L. ,Olmert had to get the vote for now.And he is a blind hack.

danny on March 28, 2006 at 3:43 pm

The prophecy specifically states NOT to let the enemy have the left bank … to ignore this is to invite the final battle.
How can a ‘Jew’ ignore the sacred scriptures? How could a ‘Jew’ dare disrespect ELOHIM, AL SHADAI, YAHWEH and still dare to call himself a Jew???
Who does this guy think he is … an American politician ???

Great insiderís look at Ehud OlmertÖit helps to know what Israel will be dealing with. Now you, Sir, can understand how Canadians have felt through two successive, and horrendous Prime Ministers, Paul Martin and Jean ChrÈtien.
I was embarrassed to be a Canadien.
We Canadiens still have the Trudeau years as comfort.
…and ISRAEL, wonít be dismantled by one dud.

The Canadien on March 31, 2006 at 2:32 am

The Canadien,
I salute you.
I’ve got way too many friends up there, on both sides of the cultural line, not to care.
Canada’s merits far outweigh the nonsense of two blithering idiots, and always will.
But Israel cannot afford a blithering idiot when the enemy is always less than a rifle shot or car bomb away.
Kissing up to the international community is not only absurd, given their own track record in the middle-east, it’s a desperate delusion … not the course of a rational mind … and it invites worse at every turn.
It’s time Israel called it for what it is and demanded something concrete on the ground … like the UN patrolling Gaza.
If they won’t do that, if they persist in tolerating a terrorist state, then the UN is a terrorist organization hostile to Israel.

Athling on March 31, 2006 at 4:20 am

AthlingÖthe UN (Useless Nations) IS HOSTILE to IsraelÖlook at WHO the member states (Arab nations and Muslim countries) are. That level of hostilityÖitsí only other target is the United States. Fortunately, Israel will always have the United States as an ally.
And the UN (Useless Nations), despite passing the Genocide Convention in 1948 (because of the Holocaust) has failed to stop genocide (the Sudan, Cambodia, Rwanda, Kosovo etc.) when it appeared again on the world stage and was within its jurisdiction.
USELESS NATIONS!
But they might useful IF they did patrol the Gaza.
Deep ThroatÖyou have no idea what youíre talking about in regards to your exegesis of the Scriptures.
Where did you find those old copies of ìPlain Truthî magazine?
Are they available on eBay?
Thank-you for your literal and rather crude rendering of the Jewish peopleís destiny. YIKES!! Your UNLEASHED eschatology threatens to prematurely bring down the four horses of the Apocalypse..upon us allÖout of the sheer absurdity of your rendering>
SamoyedÖif one rabbi doesnít believe in JESUS donít worry, I suspect there are othersÖ
I have not seen the PassionÖbut a proper rendering of the life of Jesus would clearly depict the Romans and the Jews as equals in destiny. The Romans, as representing the WORLD (the pagans, the unbelievers) and the Jewish leaders (at the time) representing the TRUE BELIEVERS (as sincere believers and the people of the Old Covenant) yet BOTH failed to recognize the Christ, the hour of God, and the dawning of the new reign of God.
And then there were disciples (the Church, receivers of the New Covenant) who knew WHO Jesus was, but ALSO abandoned Him.
The Christ had to be rejected by ALL to fulfill the Scriptures and complete Salvation history making the REDEMPTION of mankind possible. THATíS IT. No group should be singled out as more to blame. THEY ALL played their roles (including the Church) and betrayed the Christ into the hands of the ruler of this world, the Nahosh, or Satan. Jesus had to suffer and die and be slain though innocent (free from sin), so the guilty would then HAVE to be set free.

The Canadien on March 31, 2006 at 12:24 pm

Canadien,
Nice theology … I agree that the pre-incarnate Christ established Israel and the Temple to do God’s bidding. Jesus knew, and expected to be tested … anything less would have been an insult.
But what is your take on the ‘guilty’ being set free?
Does this mean everyone … unconditionally?
The 1st Wave that rose with Messiah were those who died in ‘the promise’.
My take is that even a pagan who never even heard of Israel could be freed from Death by way of conversion.
Three days in Death is a symbolic term … what is time to God? God, the Alpha and Omega, controls time. Jesus might have been there for what we mortals would call years.
Jesus gained the keys to the Kingdom of Death … not just for three days, but forever after. Even now a pagan from some distant place will have his confrontation to choose between good and evil.
The Alpha and Omega can pull me through time to stand judgment in the same instant I die … I already had my chance to choose.
ELOHIM, AL SHADAI, YAHWEH is His own Mighty Right Arm. The faithful, pre-Hebrew, Hebrew, Jew and Gentile, are merely hand-maidens.
God judges the HEART. We are what we love.
Some people love evil. Some people are devoutly evil … some people love to teach evil under the guise of religion … they are not going to get off … the Book of Jude speaks of these things.
But that’s my take … what’s yours?
But … more importantly … how can the prophecy about the Left Bank be ignored … now or ever?
