The Arabic reads “Leef Al Abd”.

That means “sponge, The slave”. Or to put it in English syntax, “Slave Sponges”. I guess they think “slave” and “negro” are the same thing. How telling is that?

The irony here is that the “Abd” is the same word they use with their 99-names-of-god. Just add “allah” after the “abd”, and you get the very popular name abdallah.

The word Negro itself is a perfectly legitimate word (and better than using blacks), but the combination of that word with the black person using the cleaning pads does smack of racism.

Yes, the name in Arabic of the product is “lif al-`abd”. `Abd of course means slave, as pointed out above. However, it has long had the associated meaning of “Negro” since many of the Arabs’ slaves, not all to be sure, were Blacks.

To be fair, the Arabs have always been equal opportunity enslavers. They bought white slaves captured by Turkish/Tatar tribes on raids in Ukraine, southwestern Poland, southern Belarus, etc., and by Barbary [North African] pirates in raids on Italy, France, Spain, even England, Ireland, and Iceland [at least one known raid on Iceland].

The word al-`abd can be seen in the upper left corner [from out perspective] of the product package.

Ok first thing i am kuwaiti. Second thing not all kuwaitis are ignorant or have slaves or house maids or keepers. I for one don’t tho my fathers house did while i was growing up. Kuwait is filled with many types of people with many types of thought with most of them afraid to express it due to fear of unacceptance socially. I am not racist nor are any of my friends or acquaintances and i went through a diverse schooling system where i had friends from everywhere . I agree kuwait has some dumb people but so does every country in this wide world of ours. I don’t believe that anyone can prejudge a culture on an imported product. I , as a kuwaiti don’t mind jews or jewish people as i’ve met jewish people on my travels and actually dated a nice jewish girl along the way. The problems of our society and allot of societies is not putting our humanity before religion. I for one am human before i am muslim christian or jewish. The fact is that humans are so short sighted and so self involved in what will happen in the end that they are missing life that is happening right in front of them. Most of us are missing the point so much and are so curious as to what is after death that we , as a race , are rushing towards our demise of uncertain destiny , that we rage wars and cause global warming and destroy what little we have. The funny thing is , we are going against all religions with our greed , vanity and shear stupidity , when all religions call for the opposite. Stop trying to be right , stop trying to be stronger than your brothers and take your head out of your ass long enough to smell the fresh air and freedom while it lasts.
