HOprah Watch: Oprah Mag Calls Maggie Thatcher “Manly”

By
We’ve written quite a bit about the absurdities of Oprah Winfrey and the mindless millions who worship her. Before it was her sickening apologism for Islamists and her shows, but now she’s decided to insult the seriously ill Dame Margaret Thatcher in a way that leaves us asking Oprah to look in the proverbial mirror.
She says Margaret Thatcher is “manly.”
The April issue of her magazine, “O”, of which Oprah is “Editorial Director,” asks about “Manliness: What is it? Who Has it?” The opening page of the article, “It’s a Guy Thing,” features a pictorial of all men (Mohammed Ali in the ring, Clint Eastwood in his younger days sticking his shirtless chest out,” Tarzan, etc.) . . . and Margaret Thatcher. The pictorial, captioned “Men overboard,” has Thatcher right over the “It’s a Guy Thing” title of the article.

The article–including an interview with Harvard professor Harvey Mansfield, author of “Manliness”–has Mansfield saying that Margaret Thatcher is not only manly but “aggressive,” more so than Hillary Clinton. Huh?! Again, Thatcher is very ill. Oprah’s attack is simply tasteless, now or ever. At least Big “O” is consistent. She’s always tasteless.
Sorry, Oprah, but Maggie Thatcher was more of a woman than you’ll ever be. Oh, and by the way, she was married (to a man) and had children. Judging from Oprah’s man, Gayle . . . er, Stedman, she does not know a thing about what is manly and isn’t. Certainly not the weeping, apologizing, cheating, lying guys-done-women-wrong “men” that have paraded across Harpo Studios stages for 20-some years.
Nothing manly about them.

Why put Thatcher rather than a bodybuilding woman or some dyke that won some manly competition against men? I just don’t understand that.
Have you ever seen the spoofs of Oprah on MadTV. They are some of the funniest skits I have ever seen. In one, Oprah is sitting around her table, talking with her worshippers about some book, and she has Stedman serving them and makes him put on a Frenchmaid apron and head piece. He gets sassy and Oprah makes him get on the table and stripdance for her worshippers. Very funny.

— IMO, comparing Maggie with Thatcher makes no sense. Love her or hare her, Thatcher promoted her party’s case, not discredited it as HRC does. She
was not a pawn in others’ games.
— It is equally absurd to compare Thatcher with Helen, Cleopatra of Catherine the Great. For all that I know about power of beauty, Thatcher has very little to do with it. Just my $0.02.

Margaret Thatcher was one of the greatest leaders of the post World War II West. I wish that all Euroepan leaders (think Chirac) had Thatcher’s strength of chracter. If they did then maybe Eurabia would not be coming nto existence today.
The fact that Harpo Winfrey is a bllionaire shows you what a great country this is.

Ripper on March 9, 2006 at 8:44 am

I believe that in Oprah’s viewpoint Maggie would be classed as manly because if Oprah asked “How do you feel about …?”, the answer would begin with, “I think ….”. To Oprah that would the antithesis of femininity and thus must be from that alien construct of masculinity.

Wrong. What you call “eurabia” is the direct result of Thatcherite economic policies. They love cheap labour, so they import it from the Muslim countries.
Yes, immigrants are happy to work for whatever they are paid, but then their children riot.

Sir Mark Thatcher has left South Africa after pleading guilty over his involvement in an alleged coup plot in Equatorial Guinea.
The son of former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was fined the equivalent of US$500,000 (Ôø?265,000) and given a four-year suspended jail term.

IF Okrah Wingfry…Nigro woman from the South was riffing on the “manliness” of Hillary or Janet Reno…you wouldn’t have a post today.

“Nigro woman from the South”
So you are implying Debbie is a racist?

“Nigro woman from the South”
It is a Howard Stern reference…calm down

Oh ye of limited intelligence!!! Darling Deb is one of the HIGHPOINTS of the Stern Show…therefore people who have a bit MORE scope of what’s going on are probably cognizant that *Nigro woman from the South* is an Okrah related bit.
STOP spending all your money on pocket protectors and invest in a Sirius subscription, twit…LOL

EminemsRevenge on March 9, 2006 at 2:28 pm

Thanks for skewering Oprah. The woman is a complete dumbshit. Like Barbra Streisand, since she’s worth millions, she thinks this translates into intellectual power. Babs & HOprah couldn’t graduate from high school without help.

Mark McGilvray on March 9, 2006 at 3:02 pm

I’m not sure what you’re implying by this statement: “Oh, and by the way, she was married (to a man) and had children . . . “. How many men have married you, Deb? How many children have you borne? That’s what I thought.

Margaret Thatcher became the real life Mrs. Miniver.
Intelligent, strong and certain, Margaret Thatcher embodied all the qualities Britons thought a refined woman should have. Britons knew she was going to get it done with, or without, their help. She was proudly British with no apologies and absolutely no regretsñ
Mrs. Thatcher also won over real hearts and real minds from the global community just as the fictional Mrs. Miniver had won over real American sympathies in 1942. If some Americans had been unsure of Americaís involvement in WW II, seeing Mrs. Miniver in action, against all odds, on the big screen in 1942 assured them that, indeed, the cause was a worthy one.
With that as a backdrop the only thing Oprahís ìOî can come up with is that she was ìmanlyî.
Good griefñ
Oprah youí re THE man! Donít project your ìstuffî onto the venerable Margaret Thatcher!!
The pictoral graphic, Its a Guy Thing, has a black Muslim, and a black Communist. Where are the spiritual superstars? Especially the black ones?? Ooops, thats not really a world the Op is comfortable with.
Hey OprahÖIíve always wanted to ask you thisÖwho is, hands down, the greatest BLACK CATHOLIC of all time? Every Pope has talked about him!! But they all saw his spirituality, and not his colour. Thatís why it isnít common knowledge that he was black~
Címon Oprah, I know youíre anti-Catholic but who is he?? AND WHY havenít YOU endorsed any of his books that are still for sale in EVERY book store today!?

EnemasRevenge, stick it where the moon doesn’t shine. If, and I say ,If, you were not an idiot, you would have noticed Debbie’s thread is HOprah Watch…There does that give you a clue why? Oh, BTW, shove your suggested reading. What a patronizing twit.

Mark McGilvray on March 9, 2006 at 6:45 pm

What would Oprah know about manliness? She worships Tom Cruise who jumps around like a school girl on her show claiming he loves Katie Holmes. Doesn’t she have some homo designer or something as a regular? Look at that Sigmon Fraud Dr. Phil she foisted on the world.
I watched her show once for 5 minutes and I felt like buying some show tunes and shopping for curtains. I had to spend the whole weekend at home watching football and pro wrestling to rid my mind of that horrible Oprah Jedi Mind Trick.
Next week I’ve heard Enimen’s Revenge will appear so he and Oprah can talk about his experiences as President of the Barry Manilow Fan Club while getting a makeover.

Oh, my bad as the hep cats like ER says. I guess I’m not hip to the Sternisms these days. Sorry, ER, I’m going to save my money on that Sirius deal.
I couldn’t listen to Stern at work if I wanted. Even if I could, he’s jumped the shark. He’s boring to me these days.

Jeff_W on March 10, 2006 at 8:52 am

I want to say that I have enjoyed, Debbie since she started calling into the Howard Stern show in ’01. I have always found her very insightful, interesting, and very intelligent. The best quality in any human being is “loving” to learn, and Debbie truly does.
As for as Oprah goes, she is a dumb bitch. I don’t why bon-bon housewives, give her so much power. Her ratings are similar to what Sally, Jessy, Donahue did in the late 80’s-early-90’s. And Dr Phil is a loser too. His ratings, were similar to Ricki Lake, when she was in her prime. But Oprah is the worst, b/c we give her sorry ass so much power. She is no incon, she is trash tv hosts, who formats her show in a style that manipulative. Check my Oprah, blog.
Debbie, thanks for all the laughs, entertainment and insightful views, you share with Howard.

MARK McGilvary: Any and all that read these pages know that Emimen’s smart and has a good view on things. As for your simple minded crap, the more you say the only shows your lack….and the same to The man.

danny on March 10, 2006 at 7:08 pm

I can’t believe these guys are the most manly she can find. Where the hell’s the Duke? Bruce Willis? Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Oh, yeah, I forgot – she wanted manly Democrats. That, of course, severely limited her choices. Naturally, she ran out, and had to fill the space with Thatcher, who had more BA!!S than most of them.

LOL! to my bud danny.

The_Man on March 11, 2006 at 11:01 am

Probably the greatest female leader in recent history, which HOprah is not. With apologies for mentioning them the same sentence.

KnightoftheImpaler on March 12, 2006 at 8:35 pm

To Inplainview Monitor: Look, Reagan promoted a lot of economic policies that are destroying the West now too, but in those days they worked to say the least. Different measures for different times. These idiot politicians nowadays think it was his economic policies that made him great (or if they’re liberals, they attack them with their whining and glass-half-empty ways), but it was his leadership that made him great. I’ll tell you one thing, he would have never stood for the sorry state the world is in now. He could have put the Islamists in line and figured out a way to do it with less American casualties (and probaby less enemy casualties even) than there have been since 2001. That’s the kind of president he was. But enough dreaming, the point is that 1980s leaders should not be judged for economic policies that worked back then but are clearly not working now.
