Shut Up: Stop Calling for Gilad Shalit’s (& a Gazillion Terrorists’) Release; 20 Terrorists for a Video

By Debbie Schlussel

For the past three years, I’ve gotten repeated e-mails, Twitter tweets, Facebook messages, and other requests galore to write demanding the release of Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier kidnapped by HAMAS in 2006.  And I’m tired of it.  It’s ridiculous.  And it’s resulting in the continued downward spiral of bad Israeli policy.

israeliflag2.jpgsnakecat2.jpgpalestinianflag.jpg

This is What Gilad Shalit’s Release Looks Like

It’s not just that, as I’ve reported on this site, Mr. and Mrs. Noam Shalit, the far-left parents of Gilad Shalit, are the Cindy Sheehans of Israel, engaging in absurd and outrageous moral equivalency and parading around with Islamic terrorists and Palestinian “victims of terror” in Israeli hospitals.  That’s bad enough.  And it’s not just that all of this pressure and all of these calls for Shalit’s release are ignored by HAMAS and won’t be answered by them.

noamshalit&palestinians.jpgcindysheehanjessejackson.jpg

It’s that these repeated loud cries for Shalit’s release are only heard by the Israeli government and only coaxes Israeli officials to continue to engage in these ludicrous, lopsided releases of Islamic terrorists from prison, something the Shalit-Sheehans are pushing for their son’s release.  As longtime readers know, I’ve repeatedly decried these ridiculous prisoner releases on this site.

In a more outrageous development than ever, Israel just released 20 female Islamic terrorists to HAMAS in exchange for . . . a videotape?! Sickening.

Yes, in exchange for a video proving Shalit is still alive, they released 20 hardened Muslimas bent on killing Israel’s citizens. If it’s 20 for a videotape, that means it’s, once again, hundreds or thousands of them for Shalit.

I’m sorry Shalit was kidnapped, while serving Israel. I’m more sorry that boneheaded Israeli leaders withdrew from Gaza and gave HAMAS the base from which to kidnap him in the first place. But I’m even more sorry yet for the victims–past and future–of the Islamic terrorists that Israel will release and the future Israeli soldiers whose kidnap Israeli, therefore, continues to make more attractive to Islamic terrorists.

Israel should trade nothing for Gilad Shalit, even if it means he will be tortured, killed, or he will die in HAMAS captivity.  That’s the way Israel should have behaved for the last two decades.  But instead, as I’ve repeatedly detailed on this site, Israel continues to negotiate with and empower terrorists, releasing brutal mass-murderers like Samir Kuntar and thousands of others like him.

So, please stop sending me missives imploring my support for Gilad Shalit’s release.  I don’t support his release because it can only mean the release of countless mass-murderers.  And I don’t believe in only an eye for a thousand eyes.  Calling for his release is part of the problem, NOT the solution.

The only release I support is a rescue by Israeli soldiers.  And since Israel doesn’t have the guts to do it (like they didn’t have the guts to defeat HAMAS or Hezbollah) nor likely even an idea where he is, that won’t happen.

You trade 20 terrorist killers for a video, you’re an idiot.  And by the way, once you get sucked in to “negotiating” with Cosa Islamic Nostra, it’s never on your terms and you can never get out.

Untill Israel gives these barbaric savages the Gen. William T Sherman treatment nothing is going to change and Israel will get the short end of the stick. Trying to have the high moral ground will most certainly result in them being buried in it. Israel take the effing gloves off and tell the human rights orgs to get bloody stuffed.

Israel should kill one prisoner evry day Shalit is not released.

jiminy cricket on October 1, 2009 at 2:24 pm

I like your idea. Why not 100 prisoners for every day Gilad Shalit is held (assuming he is alive)?

    goldenmike4393 on October 1, 2009 at 3:04 pm

The overwhelming majority of these “terrorists” are a conglomerate of useless, unproductive, dimwits saturating Israeli prisons and costing the state enormous amounts to sustain them. I would easily extradite them straight back to where they came with sufficient warning should they become misguided again ; they’re heading straight for the virgins this time round.

Then, I’d kidnap Hanan Ashrawi and exchange her for Gilad…unless of course, they refuse the swap!

THK: Really? Like Samir Kuntar? He’s just a “misguided dimwit”? DS

THK (Toronto, Canada) on October 1, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Agreed. I’m disappointed Israel won’t put a bullet in the heads of those hardened female Muslim terrorists prior to their release. Gilad Shalit’s life isn’t worth their freedom – or endangering the life of a single Jew.

That’s my view on this bone-headed idiocy by Stupid Jews who mindlessly insist on getting more of their own people murdered for what may easily be a faked videotape. There was a time Israel made me feel proud – I can recall my thrill at hearing about Entebbe and I was all of 13 years old then. The times have changed and its only gotten worse for Israel.

NormanF on October 1, 2009 at 2:33 pm

If you pay ransoms, you get a lot more kidnappings.

How do we know if Gilad Shalit is alive? We all know Photoshop.

goldenmike4393 on October 1, 2009 at 3:03 pm

The obvious answer is to demand the release of Gilad Shalit, and then begin a war. They can stop the war any time they like by surrendering him in full with no damage.

When you’re done with Gaza and the West Bank, proceed to Syria, and Iran, with occasional stops in south Lebanon.

luagha on October 1, 2009 at 3:08 pm

DS – Note, I said ‘majority’ are useless. Hopefully Israeli officials maintain the wherewithal to make the distinction. Anyhow, these maggots are released quite frequently from Israeli prisons, without any hoopla surrounding it.

As for the release of Samir Kuntar, I am not convinced it wasn’t tactical. Knowing the Lebanese terrain quite well, I suspect they knew coffins were forthcoming. Stay tuned…

Same plan but starting off with a bigger bang.

Shy Guy on October 1, 2009 at 4:05 pm

I believe there is a difference between how the government of Israel should behave and how the parents of someone who has been kidnapped (i.e. the Shalits) should behave. I have two children of my own and if I were in the position of the Shalit’s I might do the same as they are doing.

However the government of Israel should stick to their original policy of not negotiating with terrorists. They broke that at early as 1976 (Even though the IDF rescued most of those at Entebee they were engaged in serious negotiations with the PLO for the release of the hostages).

I believe that US provides for the prosecution of those who commit acts of terrorisn against US citizens even when such acts occur outside of the United States. If this is not the case then it should be. If I am correct, as far as I am concerned any Israeli Prime Minister who makes these deals with terrorists is only encouraging future acts of terrorism not only against Israelis but against everyone including Americans. Therefore that Prime Minister ought to be indicted in the US for aiding terrorists when the next attack against Americans occurs.

I_AM_ME on October 1, 2009 at 4:43 pm

Israel should send back all of the people that HAMAS wants. However, before being sent back, they should all be surgically implanted with explosives that have a remote controlled detonator and a GPS locator.

Hi Debbie,
I just now got word of your website:) Anyways I attach here copy of letter I wrote to the Toronto Star today on the subject.
am usually in agreement with the State of Israel. Today, I cringe after reading that Israel will release prisoners for a video. The obvious question is how do we know after the video they will not kill Gilad Schalit or if the video was dated a little. Israel has to begin to behave as a hard line country. In this case, a video for a video. The Red Cross should be on the case of Hamas daily so that they can visit Gilad. This exchange will now make it all the more difficult for Gilad Schalit to be freed.
Vardit Feldman,

Vardit Feldman on October 1, 2009 at 5:43 pm

That is the point. If Gilad Shalit were actually alive, Hamas probably would have allowed some sort of visit long ago. The reality that most people do not wish to consider is that Gilad Shalit was probably killed during his capture or shortly thereafter. Hamas and its affiliates have never had any issues with parading their captives, unless they were no longer in this world.

    Sorrow01 on October 1, 2009 at 10:12 pm

Vardit, the RC has NEVER been a friend to the Jews. Look at their shameful performance during the Holocaust. I knew many Jews, my mother included, who knowing of this first hand, would refuse to give them one cent let alone a drop of their Jewish blood.
If you want to donate blood, I believe any hospital will take it prior to the surgery of a loved one. For disaster relief, all I can tell you having lived thru Katrina, is that the RC was awful and the Salvation army wonderful. NO missionizing strings attached. They gave generously and selflessly.

    MK750 on October 2, 2009 at 3:23 am

This is what Moshe Feiglin said on the matter:

“We have atomic bombs, and we cannot rescue a soldier 10 kilometers away?” asked Feiglin. “We take a list of what they want and simply kill half of them, and every day he is not released, we kill another one. If they kill him, then you attack, and you make sure there is not one Hamas leader who stays alive.”

I like Netanyahu but this guy should be leading Israel instead. He’s got the cojones necessary to deal with savages.

jiminy cricket on October 1, 2009 at 6:01 pm

Blah, blah, blah. He does not.
Anyway, our electoral system is so different he can’t run as an individual. He’s so far down the party list, where he let the leaders shove him, he’ll never be party leader. His only hope is to start a new party and garner enough support to overtake Likud.
Sorry, I have mixed feelings about Moshe. He comes across very impressively but then I remember he’s a politician with an American wife. He almost seems to be running for office in the US. You “persons of the US” are far more impressed than most Israelis. That’s why he doesn’t start a separate party. He’d never get that support I mentioned and that he’d need.
My husband attended his pre election rally here in Jerusalem. It was the same old Likudnik party clones up there. Not exactly the dais of a reformer. He also promised English translation, HAH!

    MK750 on October 2, 2009 at 3:29 am

I think this article reflects a misunderstanding of the Israeli psyche.
Israel has time and again shown it will do anything to bring home its soldiers, dead or alive, in one piece or several. This is a policy seperate from fighting terror and groups like Hamas. This is a domestic policy that values life and the dignity of the person so highly that to put the minds of Schalit’s parents at ease that their son is alive is worth releasing prisoners.
It may be a result of the Jewish religious principle that the redemption of captives is one of the most important things a Jew can do, or it may be Jewish guilt at the inability to watch Gilad’s family suffer, but wherever it comes from, Israel has decided that the dignity and welfare of its soldiers is paramount.
In any event, this release is really not as big a sacrifice as it may seem. This year, Israel did not release the usual few prisoners at Ramadan as it usually does (these women fill that deficit,) Most of these women were almost done serving their time and the Israeli government has been pretty clear that these 20 will be subtracted from the total number released in exchange for Gilad. So, the concession is not that massive.

Charlie H. Ettinson on October 1, 2009 at 6:32 pm

I am sorry. Releasing people for a video does not make sense any way you slice it. Also, one person’s life is not worth putting an entire nation in danger. Frankly, I doubt that Shalit is even alive at this point. Some evidence of his existence would have been forth coming in the past otherwise. Is Israel going to endanger istelf by releasing really horrible people for a bag of bones?

    Sorrow01 on October 1, 2009 at 10:08 pm

Debbie, I agree Hamas has raked Israel over the coals over GS for years and unfortunately I think they will continue to hold him and then pull a Ron Arad, as they get continous good internal PR and Israeli concessions. Israel will not get GS back unless they stop negotiating and start searching and destroying. Also, why they have not sent a Predator over Tehran with a missile lock on Ahmadouchebag is beyond me. Debbie if we were running Israel they’d be a lot better off, I think.

A1 on October 1, 2009 at 9:49 pm

I would l;ike to see Israel castrate every prisoner they release. Since they only get the 72 virgins if they die fighting their enemy (Israel), and the surgery would render them incapable of handling even one virgin, they would lose their incentive to fight.
As for the terroristas,a hysterectomy will leave them unable to serve the principle purpose of women, producing offspring, and thus, usless in Islamic society.

Well, I live just a few meters from our esteemed Prime MInister and I have to get off a particular bus at his gates. This is where the Shalit tent is and it is so pathetic and sad. Meanwhile, Israel National News ran an article the other day saying that now Hamas and Fatah have a point of agreement; that kidnapping soldiers gets results as in release of terrorist prisoners. Israel needs to institute the death penalty at least for “enemies of the state” who practice treason, sedition and terrorism.
I have repeatedly said in talkbacks to INN that the Shalits are harming this nation and making a mockery of their son’s service and sacrifice. The mother’s tears are giving fuel to our mortal enemy. I have also taken Paula Stern to task for her mawkish blog, “A Soldiers Mother” for basically doing the same thing as she writes about her fears over her “baby” 22 year old Elie who is alive and well and serving our country proudly. He must be so embarrassed by his mother’s prating, I can’t imagine.
I stand by my opinion in both cases. BTW I am a GRANDMOTHER of 4 boys who currently live in the US. My husband did a stint in the IDF as a new immigrant during the First Gulf War. My first husband is a Nam era vet who, by the grace of G-d narrowly missed combat, and so I know the risks of having a man in Service during “hostilities.” It is a source of pride and honor for them to do so. I would hug my grandsons a little tighter and send them off with a smile on my face. Sure the tears would flow but in private and in supplication for their safety, not my own fears.

Sometimes I really do feel like there are two dimensions. The one that government officials and their cronies live in . . . and the one that the rest of us live in.

How about you get that good little puppy from Debbie’s “Shield Your Eyes: If It Had a Cross, It’d Get NEA, NEH Grants” post to do his business on the Sheehan and Jackson photo? Hopefully it would be a little runny.

THK

“The overwhelming majority of these “terrorists” are a conglomerate of useless, unproductive, dimwits saturating Israeli prisons and costing the state enormous amounts to sustain them.”

Exactly! Just as in a different scenario in the USA except magnified about a few hundred thousand times BUT prisons MUST be kept full to keep big business prison owners in action as well as keep unemployment rates down. Imagine the unemployment rate if prisoners who are there for little reason were released AND prison workers who would then not be needed AND US forces abroad were not at war abroad?

Bob S. on October 3, 2009 at 10:12 am

Look, Israel is doomed. The country will not take the actions necessary to convince their enemies that peace is better than war. All they do now is offer photo ops and live-fire exercises, that is practice to the enemy.

The problem is two fold: one an idolatry of moral purity, and the foolish belief that people will automatically reciprocate when they actually see any decency as weakness.

I further believe that Israel’s nuclear deterence is an empty threat. First, US Jews have deserted the cause. More important Israel is a hard-left secular state. The ideology is totally against such primitive things as retaliation.

Officially or through rebellion it will not happen, especially, if there is any time lag in response. Someone will not do it, and I personally know how many checks are built into these systems, and one person can stop it.

Israel will not sacrifice its self-satisfaction to save future generations from duties that can be done now, but from weakness are not.
