SCHMUCKS: Oscar Winner Boycotting Israel; Oscars Files Suit Over Israel
An actor who won an Academy Award at last night’s Oscars ceremony is boycotting Israel. And the organization that owns and runs the Academy Awards is suing to persecute and exclude Israel. Forget #OscarsSoWhite. Reality Check: #OscarsSoAntiSemitic.
Mark Rylance won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (Sylvester Stallone was robbed!) for his disgustingly sympathetic portrayal in the soft-peddled role as a real-life Russian spy tied to the Rosenberg spy ring in “Bridge of Spies” (read my review). No surprise, since the movie made the Communists look like “not such bad people” and morally equivalent to America. Rylance’s character is a charming nice guy, not the evil Russian spy he really was in real life.
Well, it turns out that Rylance is also an anti-Israel activist. And he’s boycotting the country. Rylance is one of 1,000 UK artists, musicians, actors, etc. who’ve pledged never to go to Israel. He signed the “Artists for Palestine UK Artists’ Pledge.” It says:
We support the Palestinian struggle for freedom, justice and equality. In response to the call from Palestinian artists and cultural workers for a cultural boycott of Israel, we pledge to accept neither professional invitations to Israel, nor funding, from any institutions linked to its government until it complies with international law and universal principles of human rights.
The thing is, Israel has complied with international law and universal principles of human rights more than any country in the Middle East, more than any Muslim country, and, frankly, more than any country on earth–Western or otherwise. Muslims have more rights in Israel than in any other country on earth. But don’t confuse Jew-haters like Mark Rylance with the facts.
And who wants him in Israel? But Rylance was “offered” a free trip to Israel. All Oscars nominees and hosts/presenters were.
You see, the State of Israel did a smart thing. Israel gave free, all-expenses-paid, luxury 10-day trips to Israel–valued at $55,000.00–as part of the Oscars swag bag given to Oscar nominees, host, presenters, and other such bigwigs. But even before winning his Academy Award, Rylance announced that he would under no circumstances accept the trip. Again, who need him him there?
But there’s an interesting kink in all of this, aside from Rylance. A few other actors and directors–the best known of which is Mike Leigh who wrote and directed the interminable bore, “Mr. Turner”–have denounced Israel and the free Israel trip in the Oscars swag bag. And, because of that, after 14 years of the swag bags, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (AMPAS) has suddenly decided to file suit against the swag bag provider, saying the contents are “unsavory.”
Apparently, the swag bags aren’t really associated with the actual Oscars. But AMPAS officials tacitly allowed them to be distributed to Academy Awards participants and VIPs and said and did nothing to stop them. But now with Israel associated with the swag bags, AMPAS filed a February federal lawsuit against the goodie bag provider, Lash Fary d/b/a Distinctive Assets, LLC. While the lawsuit doesn’t mention Israel, it’s clear that the free Israel trip is the reason for the AMPAS lawsuit.
So much for Oscars “diversity.” When Academy Prez Cheryl Boone Isaacs claims she is pushing for more of that, what she really means is more politically correct minorities, but Jews and Israel? Not kosher.
But #OscarsSoJewHating will never become a hip Twitter hashtag. Jews aren’t the in group and Israel isn’t an in country as far as Tinseltown is concerned.
That Was Then . . .
This Is Now . . .

Hi Debbie, not sure if you wrote about this before but also on that Artists for Palestine is Asif Kapadia who won yesterday for Amy “a 2015 British documentary film that depicts the life and death of British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse”
Thanks
P: I did not know that or write about it before. Thanks for informing us. Not surprised b/c Kapadia is Muslim. Also, Amy was Jewish, and her parents say he lied and defamed her and them in his “documentary.” DS
